The Assurances Of The Secret Place

turn with me in your Bibles to Psalm number twenty-seven Psalm number twenty-seven verses one through verse number five and I want to preach about the assurances of the secret police the assurances of the secret place the Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear the Lord is the strength of my life whom shall I be afraid when the wicked even my enemies and my foals came upon me to eat up my flesh they stumbled and fell the one host should encamp against me my heart shall not fear the war should rise against me in this will I be confident one thing have our desired of the Lord that will I seek after that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the Lord and to enquire in his temple verse 5 reads for in the time of trouble hallelujah he shall hide me in his pavilion in the secret of his Tabernacle shall he hide me he shall set me upon a rock thank you you may be seated as always the grass withers and the flower thereof but the word of our God shall stand forever the assurance is of a secret place when I need strength when I need power when I need courage to make it through another week I go to the book of songs for every shifting mood for every emotional trauma for every difficult issue in life one can find an answer an antidote in the book of songs the word reads like a diary of young David and David when he got older there's imprecatory psalms where David asks God to kill his enemies the Psalms of praise their Psalms of lament but each one of them contains a powerful word when the soul needs to be encouraged walk with me through some of these encouraging numbers of Psalms blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in that law does he meditate both day and night and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth his fruit in its season its leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper the Lord our Lord how excellent is thy name in all the earth when I consider the heavens the works of thy fingers the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained what is man that thou art so mindful of him and the son of man that I would even visit him thou has made him a little lower than the angels and has crowned him with glory and honour you know this when the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want he maketh me to lie down in green pastures he leads me beside the still waters he restoreth my soul he leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake yay though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort me thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies thou anointest my head with oil my cup is just running over surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever the earth is the Lord the fullness there all the world and they that dwell therein for he has founded it upon the Seas and established it upon the floods lift up your hands oh ye gates and be lifted up ye everlasting doors and the King of glory shall come in who is this King of glory the Lord strong and mighty the Lord mighty in the battle have mercy on me O God according to your loving-kindness according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out all my transgression create in me a clean heart and renew within me the right spirit Lord thou has been our dwelling place in all generations before the mountains were brought forth who ever thou has formed the earth and the world even from everlasting to everlasting power God make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands serve the Lord with gladness come before his presence with singing nor EE that the Lord he is God and it is he that have made us and not we ourselves by the rivers of Babylon there we sat down yay we wept when we remembered Zion we hanged our harps upon the Willows in the midst thereof and they there carried us away captors required of us a song and they got wasted us required of us mirth saying sing us one of the songs of Zion but how shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth my soul shall make a boast in the Lord the humble shall hear there of and be glad all magnify the Lord with me let us exalt his name together come on you can say it with me all taste and see that the Lord is good but but my favorite song by far is Psalm number 27 the Lord is my light and my salvation because of that whom shall I fear the Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid when the wicked when they plotting on me when they're digging traps for me when they're trying to dig a ditch for me when the wicked even my enemies and my falls come upon me to eat up my flesh just before he get to me they stumble and they fail to the believer God offers us some assurances right here in these five verses we have the assurance of personal guidance the Lord is my light my salvation whom shall I fear the Lord is a strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid when the wicked even my enemies and my fools came to eat up my flesh they stumbled and they failed I know he's your light but that's not personal for me I need him to be my light somehow to help me preach it you your honor you ought to thank God for your mother's God but you need to know God for yourself because when life turns on you you will need a personal relationship you will need a God who can guide you personally brothers and sisters it is so easy in a church of this size to get lost in the crowd and to get caught up in the mob mentality because what's going on in churches now is what's called a praise craze everything is praised the song leader to asking you to give God a hand to pray and people just do it because somebody asks them to do it high five three people come on talk back to me if you can give God a hand clap a prayer I went to a funeral yesterday I was so tired of clapping I didn't know what to do with myself clap your hands give God some free copy I was sick of that I don't need a preacher I don't need a choir director I don't need a worship leader coaxing me and prodding me and trying to push me forcing me to give God praise because that staged and choreographed when I think about what I have in Christ Jesus how he saved me how he sanctified me how he forgave me how he pick me up and turn me around I can be at my house I wish I had somebody here today sometimes I'm riding in the car sometime I'm sitting in the office by myself and I start praising God without anybody trying to make me clap my hand because for me it's personal you need a personal relationship with Jesus Christ because it's easy in this world to get lost so you will need somebody to guide you I'm talking to believers now it's it is easy with all the distractions we have to get your focus off what's really important but the Lord is my light and my salvation and because he's my life and my salvation I ain't scared of you it is right here in the text hmm shall I fear if you kill me I ain't got but one time to die and then I'm already dead because I was born twice so I've just got to die once for to me to live is Christ and to die is gain so my enemies can't do me no harm I've learned that it makes no sense as a believer to stay up worrying about who's out to get you because you're not gonna stop folk from disliking you come on help me preach them in you're not gonna stop them from spreading rumours about you so let me give you some good advice get in your car and look in the passenger side mirror and realize that God is on your side and whoever tries to come against you just look in the mirror on the passenger side that's a little writing that will assure you that God is coming up the rear yes just when you get in your car that this ought to help you shout when you get in your car just read that writing at the bottom of the passenger-side mirror that says objects in the mirror are closer than they appear it may look like God is not coming on your side it may look like the devil is going to get the upper hand but objects are closer than they appear he's my light my salvation whom shall I fear the Lord is the strength of my life and listen this is really good for people here who are over 50 God will give you strength in your senior years that you're stronger in your 60s and your 70s then you were in your thirties and your father's because you got most sense now then you had back then somebody will help me here you understand things better now then you understood and been that's why David said I was young but now I move and I've never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread God will keep you I said God will keep you somehow help me preach it God will protect you God will guide you God will give you strength when your hair turns gray I used to I used to laugh at my grandmother I lived with her and loved her in her grave and I used to laugh at my grandmother when she would forget things and she'd be looking for hi glasses and she had them all and I just fall out laughing she said just keep living that same dog that bit me he's gonna bite you Here I am on the bright side of 50 and I'm sometimes looking for my car keys in the end my hand I go in a room to get something and said now what did I come in here for somebody over 50 ought to help me here I'm looking for my eyeglasses and I got them on but then when my soul gets weird when my eyes are full of tears God comes right alongside me to give me strength he is the strap of my life of whom shall I be afraid when the wicked and you got to be awfully young not to know that some wicked people go to church when the wicked that's some lowdown folks who come to church I mean people look you because the psalmist says he that keepeth thee will not slumber and he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep so I determined since God is up all night I'm gonna say my prayers and go to bed plot against me and lie on me and try to destroy me no weapons song against me I wish I had a witness shall be able to prosper we are more than conquerors through him that loved us it's personal guidance but in the psalmist moves from personal guidance to powerful guardianship is right here in the text one thing have our desire of the Lord that will I seek after that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days in my life behold the beauty of the Lord to enquire in his temple here it is for in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion what David had in mind with this word pavilion was that the hosts of Israel the armies of the Lord were encamped wherever they camped to fight their enemies the soldiers were all around in that tents alert waiting for a word from the king and in the middle of all of those tents was a pavilion where the king slim so if the enemy came he had to get through the army to get to the pavilion someone will help me preach it so when trouble rises I belong to the Lord and he hides me in his pavilion so that by the time they get to me God has already killed him let me see if I can make that Mick boss since that were hiding me in his pavilion means he puts me away like a treasure so that nobody who tries can get their hands on me he's a guardian he's a keeper he's a protector he's a provider they've got to go through a whole lot of folk food he get to me cuz he has hidden me in his pavilion I hear me brothers and system in that pavilion are provisions I'm eating stuff that other folk outside the pavilion they on rations but I'm meeting with the king you don't know how precious you are in the sight of the Living God when he hides you in his pavilion he will give you provisions that other folk don't know anything about and they won't know why you're so strong why are you so happy why are you so excited because you are in the pavilion while God is providing you got to stop crying but what you don't have and praise God for what you do have you got somebody looking out for you have I got a witness here he has engraved your name in the palm of his hand the devil in hell can't get to you because before the devil can get to you he's got to get to Jesus and before he gets to Jesus he's got to get to God because he said he that I hold in the palm of my hand the devil in hell came pluck him oh that was a time where the church used to shout on Sunday with nickels and dimes with nothing nowhere near what we have right now somebody help me appreciate they didn't have any money they didn't have any in the defense's every courtroom every Police Authority every act of legislation said to our forebears you do not matter there were nobody everywhere else they were boy and gal from Monday through Saturday but on Sunday morning when they got to the Lord's house many of them had for their wallpaper newspaper but they said every time I feel the spirit moving in my heart I will pray this thing over my head I hear music in the air that must be a god somewhere some of y'all been in here since 11 o'clock God has blessed you with a good job God has blessed you with a nice house you got a fine car money in your 401k and you haven't opened your mouth yet you haven't told God thank you yet well if you don't want to praise him if you're not grateful for what he's doing for you if you're not excited about what he's up to in your life I will bless the Lord at all times if I got to bless him by myself if I've got to praise and by myself I'm grateful that he hides me in his pavilion that's one last thing here in the secret of his Tabernacle he shall hide he shall set me upon a rock personal guidance powerful guardianship and I want you to see finally profound glory it is right here in the text he will hide me get this he will hide me by putting me on a rock somebody gonna get that on the way to Papa doe he shall hide me by raising me up on a rock somebody ought to help me he will hide me in plain sight he will put me up where my enemies can see me but they can't get to they know where I am but they can't put their hands on somebody ought to help me preach it they watching me shout but they can't make me shut up they're watchin me bless God and the more I shout the matter they get but they can't do nothing about it because he hides me on a rock the reason for that is that when God secrets me away he gives me power to go back and fight my enemies in the secret of his Tabernacle now get this the Tabernacle in the Old Testament was a secret place it it housed the Ark of the testimony it was hidden behind a curtain a veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the most holy nobody could go back there but the high priests and then the high priests could only go back there once a year somebody who helped me preach it before he went back there he took his clothes off and washed himself and then put on his ceremonial ephod and then he asked them to bring him two goats one goat he put the sins of the people on and turned him a loose in the wilderness and he became for them a scapegoat but then he slaughtered the other goat and sprinkled his blood on the mercy seat you go help me preach this won't you not a message seed covered the Ark of the Covenant and inside the Ark of the Covenant was a cup of manna that did not spoil Aaron's robbed that started growing flowers and the tablets of stone that God gave Moses in the Ten Commandments and the priests would go back there once a year to absolve the people of their sin but one Friday on Calvary's cross on God gafas Hill the veil in the temple was rent knocking out forever and intermediary and now every man can go to God for himself and so now when God hides me and sets me on a rock he covers me with his blood what kind of wash I wish I had somebody to help me preach away my sins nothing but the blood of Jesus what can make me whole again nothing but the blood of Jesus that's why I praise God with enthusiasm because my enemies can't get their hands on me that's why I give God the glory on Sunday morning because he's been so good to me he took care of me last week last month last year and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that have a got a witness here we suffered one of the worst economic downturns in the history of this country but none of us went hungry one single day some people lost their house but you still got a roof over your head and then some of you here lost your job but you never missed a meal because God's been taking care of you you never lost your house you still had transportation both sit here acting like you don't know who kept you don't sit here acting like you don't know who brought you it was nobody but Jesus it was nobody but the Lord he picked me up turn me around place my feet on solid ground come on you can help me say it the Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear the Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid when the wicked even my enemies came upon me to eat up my flesh they stumbled and they fell if the Lord's been good to you if God has tried you till if God has opened the door for you if God has made a way for you if God has been protecting you if God has been your personal guide if God has been your guardian if God has a you own a rock why don't you shake somebody's hand tell them the Lord has been good to me if you don't want to praise it get out of my way if you don't want to bless him go sit somewhere else if you don't want to tell him thank you move out of my way the Lord has been good to me why don't you hug somebody tell him you don't know like I knew what the Lord has done for me he brought me out of darkness thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you Jesus for hiding me in plain sight not only that but when he hides me on a rock when he puts me in plain sight he's making an exhibition of what he can do when you trust in his name I'm exhibit number one when the devil tries to put God on trial the Holy Ghost offers me as exhibit number one and there are some other exhibits in this sanctuary when I call your name when I call you exhibit come on and testify I was a drug addict but here God is hiding me on a rock come on and shout a minute somebody was an alcoholic but God rescued you come on shout a minute somebody used to be broke but he put money in your pocket come on shout a minute somebody went to jail but he signed your bone come on shout a minute why don't you drive somebody tell him I never would have made I never would have made it I never will have made it no either he covers me with his blood sets me upon a rock with my enemies all about me but I'm covered I said I'm covered witness blood
