The Alternate Versions Of Joker!

today our baron i give you the alternate versions of this guy the Joker welcome and we love comics more than I think Ben Affleck looks amazing as Batman I'm your host eros quinones it's been quite a while since I lasted an alternate versions episode and I have yet to do one on a villain so of course the first villain I did one on had to be my all-time favorite villain the Joker so let's dive in and see just how many different versions of the Clown Prince of Crime there has been over his 75 years of existence due to all the different timelines Earth's Elseworlds stories and so on also there's a good amount of different Joker's to talk about so I'm going to keep each one fairly brief but now let's put a smile on that face now before I get into all the different versions of the Joker just know as I always say with these alternate version episodes there is no way I could mention every single last version of the Joker that there has been over the years but I will do my best to talk about the significant ones and/or my favorite ones with that said of course I have to start this list off with the original and classic Joker from DC proper this is the Joker we all know and love from DC's main continuity we've seen a most recently in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo Batman run when you think about the Joker in comics this is the version you most likely think about I mean he's been in great stories like a death in the family the man who laughs and of course you can't forget my all-time favorite Joker story The Killing Joke fun fact The Killing Joke was intended to be out of DC's mainstream continuity but fans loved it so much it was eventually made canon it's also the story that gives us a possible origin for the Joker but that's enough talking about the main continuity Joker let's move on to some other versions the first alternate version of Joker I'm going to talk about is one of the best Batman stories of all time The Dark Knight Returns in the alternative future of the Dark Knight Returns The Joker has been catatonic since Batman's retirement but regains consciousness after seeing a news story of Batman reemerging he manipulates his psychiatrist into declaring him cured and hires a publicist to book him on a late-night talk show he attempts to destroy the television studio drawing Batman out into the open Batman pursues him into a tunnel of love at a carnival where he fractures the Joker's neck in a fit of rage but cannot bring himself to kill the Joker the Joker then commits suicide by twisting his fractured neck until it breaks completely thus framing Batman as the then you have flashpoint Joker which is one of the most clever cool takes on the Joker at least I think so in the flashpoint timeline Bruce is killed as a child instead of his parents his death leaves his father Thomas Wayne to become Batman while his mother Martha Wayne goes insane and becomes the frickin Joker I just think it's a cool take on the Batman origin and mythos we also have Gotham by Gaslight Joker from Earth 19 the Joker cameos in Gotham by Gaslight as a serial killer who married in poisoned at least 10 women he tried to commit suicide when he is caught with a poison which leaves a permanent grin on his face then you have the 1994 Elseworlds story Batman leather wing which is essentially the pirate version of the Batman universe in the story the Joker is represented as the Laughing Man a deformed an insane pirate he's the adversary of Captain leather wing aka this story's Batman in the story Batman in darkest night which is a story that tells us what would happen if Batman became a Green Lantern the Joker is created when Sinestro absorbs the mind of Joe Chill driving him insane and resulting him taking on Joker's iconic purple suit and warped sense of humor the classic Joker origin from The Killing Joke is also referenced in this story this one is another favorite of mine in the Elseworlds story Batman 2 faces the Joker is not an independent entity but a shared identity created when a potion made by Bruce Wayne to give himself super strength also creates a new personality Bruce alternates randomly between himself and the Joker his Batman identity fights crime while the Joker identity commits murders yet again this is just another cool spin on the Batman mythos I highly recommend reading else world stories they usually give us some pretty cool interesting interpretations of the characters one of the more famous interpretations of Joker is from the graphic novels simply called Joker it focuses on the character in a more gritty realistic way it also gave us one of the most twisted Joker moments of all time when he skinned a man alive and then brought him on stage for everyone to see that's just all kinds of messed up another interesting version of the Joker is from Batman Nosferatu in this rendition the Joker appears as the Laughing Man a monster cyborg of the depraved dr. Arkham who uses him as an assassin one of my favorite Elseworlds stories is Superman speeding bullets where Superman becomes Batman and if Superman becomes Batman then Lex Luthor obviously becomes a joker which is just really fun to see the amalgam universe which merged the DC and Marvel Universe's gave us Creed Quinn aka hyena who's a mixture of Sabretooth and the Joker I'm honestly not a big fan of this mashup or even the characters design but hey to each his own keeping this Joker train moving we have earth-three Joker earth-three is mostly known for being the home of the crime syndicate who are the evil counterparts of the Justice League but also on earth 3 is the hero version of the Joker named the jokester he appears as a hero battling a low man who's the villain version of Batman fun facts he also has a daughter on this earth whose name Dhulia dent and she's the original Joker's daughter before the new 52 version of Joker's daughter came around then there's Joker of post 52 earth 2 where he's depicted as an old man frail and wheelchair-bound after a lifetime of exposure to deadly chemicals and ironically unable to laugh without hurting himself the joke of earth 9 from the DC Comics imprint tanjit comics is a female hero who uses her array of jokes and comedic devices to mock the evil tyrant Superman on earth 37 the earth of thrill killer Batman Bianca steeplechase a gangster is the Joker she even hinted to having a lesbian relationship with Hayley Fitzpatrick that Earth's version of Harley Quinn we also have the Joker from the very popular injustice comic and video game in this version the Joker drugged up Superman convincing him that his wife Lois Lane was doomsday which ended up in Superman inadvertently killing his wife and unborn child once Superman realized what he had done and who made him do it the Man of Steel literally punched a hole straight through the Joker then we have the Joker's gang from Batman Beyond which I always liked and lastly we have Tim Drake Joker from Batman Beyond return of the Joker you heard me Tim Drake Joker in this animated movie set 40 years in the future the Joker hasn't been seen in many decades long story short it is revealed that the Joker had one last trick up his sleeve he implanted a DNA over right into Tim Drake so that the Joker could return once again I know this isn't a comic per se but the Batman Beyond cartoon has had several comics in continuity with the cartoon so it still counts and that my comic Conrad brings my list of different Joker's to a close again I clearly didn't mention every single version of the Joker ever but I think I gave you guys a pretty good list at least I tried to so let me know what your favorite versions of Joker are down in the comment section below first up for Wednesday December 30th we have the flash issue 47 professor zooms endgame goes into effect as we learned the dark truth behind Nora Allen's murder now we have Superman annual three this issue reveals the event of vandal savage's creation which is enough to get me to read this issue and finally we have Superman Lois and Clark issue three what is being held in this Superman's Fortress of Solitude and what is entering and why is their discovery dangerous to Lois whatever the answer is neither Clark nor Lois want their son to learn the truth and that brings another episode aberrant to a close but remember you can always like our Facebook page keep up with the show with all things comic related could also follow variant on twitter at variant comics or me on twitter at aires underscore quinones but i'll see you guys next week when i talk about what you guys are so smart all things Comics Batman and Dracula red rain this Joker is the new successor of Dracula that's great stop pause you
