[Music] thank you hello and welcome to Tuesday Newsday your number one resource for the entire week's worth of VR news so this week I came across something extremely interesting a very little known project that is promising a full body tracked full force feedback suit for VR that people can just build at home for cheap and at least from what I'm saying this puts anything I've ever used to shame and is probably the closest thing I've ever seen to a true Ready Player One immersion rig and really I have a feeling that this episode is just going to prove one thing no matter what you think the future of virtual reality is likely going to be a whole lot weirder than any of us can possibly imagine but that's not it bone lab goes multiplayer Apple's headset seems to be coming way sooner than we all thought and Mark Zuckerberg sorta silently buries the metaverse all that and so much more this is a fun one so let's just get right into the news so I'm pretty much 24 7 always on the lookout for new VR devices that can change the way I use Virtual Reality whether that's new VR headsets or gloves or suits or treadmills I'm always looking for devices that can make VR more immersive and useful and I've tried lots and lots of things over the years some of it's great some of it not so much but I don't think I was quite prepared for the rabbit hole that one YouTube comment would send me down leading to me discovering probably the most interesting VR project I've ever seen this is the wildly unknown exit suit named as such because it's a suit designed for the user to exit reality into a new virtual world and that sounds exactly like my cup of tea so there's very little public information on the exit suit and what information there is is spread pretty thinly so when I first came across it I thought it was just some performative stage prop for a show or something but I was entirely wrong and after doing a ton of digging I learned that this is a full VR immersion rig akin to some Ready Player 1 setup and not the movie one instead the far superior book version of an immersion rig it's designed to provide full body tracking essentially this thing doubling as a motion capture setup also with full force feedback on each limb so you can feel the resistance of things in your surroundings the Creator even stating that in their demo software you can feel the resistance of a stream as you walk through it and the rig provides full Locomotion capability similar to something like a catwalk C but that's not even the really surprising part most really interesting VR Hardware is designed for some Enterprise application it all costs way too much and isn't even sold to Consumers but this isn't some multi-thousand dollar Enterprise rig this thing is designed and built by and for VR enthusiasts in fact you're incentivized to just build your own this entire thing is all Open Source Hardware the create later even having videos showing how you can assemble one yourself in under two hours but let's just back up a bit because how this thing works is probably one of the most interesting things I've seen in VR design so the exit suit looks pretty wild I mean it looks more like a skeleton than a VR accessory but that's because that's exactly what this is the exit suit is an exoskeleton it's a supportive structure that goes around the body with a pretty interesting core philosophy essentially the exoskeleton becomes your virtual skeleton and your physical self and virtual self in a way are able to interact with each other because of this physical representation of skeletal input and it all starts by using the position data of the user's real hips via the exit suit's pelvis and by starting at the hips a spine is constructed and off the movements of the spine and hips the position of the legs can be easily extrapolated it's kind of Genius another huge benefit here is that in addition to physical support allowing you to pretty much fly or walk around or jump in Direction the spine acts as a real spine it doesn't allow you to bend backwards and so like I said by bringing in a physical exoskeleton that wraps around the body not only is your body constrained by the suit when applicable but your real body movements are translated into VR by these suit skeletons it's a two-way information path between the virtual world and the physical and it's a kind of human-centric design that I really dig but the Real Genius part of this isn't even in the design necessarily yeah this whole Da Vinci look is cool but the really cool part is that all over the place IC hashtag Open Source Hardware regarding this thing and then on top of that in the very few comments on YouTube and Instagram the owners of this project are legit responding and just handing out the design plans which sounds awesome but the real plan of the exit suit is just way cooler than I could have ever imagined open source VR Hardware is amazing and it's something I will always cover and I love to cover but it's not always the easiest thing to get into especially if you don't have a 3D printer or know how to solder this on the other hand takes an entirely different approach the idea is to just take the exit suit plans that they plan on publishing to any service that is able to make cuts of wood or I guess just do it yourself and after you have the wood cut doesn't matter how you get it done you just put it together like Ikea furniture so I did reach out on Instagram asking for more information but I haven't heard anything back yet but I think it goes without saying that I am incredibly intrigued this whole project makes sense in so many ways but has gotten so little attention the exit suit sort of solves a lot of unsolvable problems for VR force feedback full body tracking and inputs Locomotion even distribution and shipping for large devices believe me I learned from catwalk shipping a two or three hundred pound treadmill across the world may cost just as much as having a wood shop cut 20 pieces of wood I don't know like I said I'm interested and while I know this is not for everyone I mean this is kind of ridiculous this is something I think we might just be seeing more of on the channel but of course we'll have to do some more investigation still I think something like this shows full well that while the minimum viable product of a VR headset won't be anything more than a functional hmd that straps onto your face and makes watching movies and playing Beat saber better it's just the bare minimum of VR the furthest and a virtual reality and immersion is a whole lot more interesting than anyone credits and I definitely hope to see more from exit soon and if you do want to go down the same rabbit hole that I did the links are down below in the description I think we should give him some attention you know what I mean but don't go anywhere yet because we still got a whole lot to get through regarding this week's VR news but first I think it's time for uh foreign [Music] this Interruption but are you tired of stale dry meme breaks well you can help generally the health of an industry is judged by the quality of its memes and you can help save the entire VR industry by joining the thrill seeker subreddit or thrillseeker Discord to submit memes so do your part say VR by making jokes and now back to the news Okay so while researching this video I came across another very interesting project and it's so weird that after I saw it I just couldn't not include it here this is polymorph a traveling VR experience of sorts that recently held a booth at South by Southwest using a very non-traditional full body haptic system with all sorts of weird puffy air and liquid bits polymorph is designed to help remove a group of people from their bodies and have them explore a post-human earth together in VR and it's as multi-sensory as it gets with taste touch smell body tracking but interestingly enough also very restricted movement it's something that looks straight out of a 90s VR movie like existence but it's a real exhibit and it's something I'd love to try out it's just something I had to mention whenever I saw it but moving on how many times have you heard Apple's VR headset is shipping this year probably about every year for the past five years it seems but 2023 just might actually be different and really whether you care about Apple or not their entrance into the VR Market is obviously going to be a pretty massive deal and I don't think it's too crazy to say that we're likely going to look back at The X Artistry and see a clear pre and post Apple XR world even if the effects of Apple's headset don't really set in for a few years and funnily enough maybe everyone was right because this device was actually supposed to ship a few years back it's just been delayed every single year and according to a report from a former Apple engineer the design team at Apple actually wants to delay the headset again but this time for multiple years waiting until they can achieve a glasses-like form factor but Apple's CEO Tim Cook has put immense pressure on the team to just ship a product and rumor has it that the green light has been given that this year at the wwc in June whatever this obscure Apple VR or ar device is will be revealed and it could be shipping as soon as this summer so I guess we'll just have to see there's always been so much conflicting data regarding this headset but it'll be interesting either way Apple really is primed to do some really exciting things in VR I mean as much as I dislike their narrow and Walled Garden ecosystem it does allow for some very tight hardware and software Integrations and it's also true that whatever Apple does pretty much every company just follows suit so even if you hate Apple's ecosystem it's still worth keeping an eye on shoot even just their reality kit systems are years ahead of just about every other mixed reality software package out there so like I said it'll be very interesting bone lab is getting probably well actually definitely its biggest mod yet launching today bone lab fuse has finally dropped Fusion being a mod that's been in the works since the game's launch bringing Full multiplayer to Bone lab allowing you to run custom game types sandboxes it even looks like you're able to play the campaign with people and I was able to watch some people playing the preview and it actually looks pretty impressive especially considering it's only a mod and is looking at people interact with each other it gives such hardcore Gmod Vibes it's not even funny so Fusion is launching today on thunderstore but only for PC VR the team said they're working on a quest version but that's obviously a much more complicated task so it's stuck on PC for now either way a huge step for bone lab's future and you should definitely check it out so the past few Tuesday news days I've talked a lot about how meta has completely shifted their VR plans this year canceling multiple headsets swapping around skus and changing priorities and honestly most of the changes look pretty good there are things that I'm excited for personally but one thing is very noticeable a distinct lack of metaverse and this may be for a pretty good reason but a few Publications have noticed that meta seems to be kind of burying the metaverse putting it behind them silently as they focus on other Ventures one being a more realistic X Artistry that isn't as metaverse focused at least for now two is possibly a completely new social platform but by far the biggest thing is meta's new focus on AI and I say new not really meaning new like meta has been working on AI for a long time now but with Mark Zuckerberg recently announcing an internal reorganization of the company to build a world-class AI team it's pretty obvious that Mark's Focus has shifted from metaverse to generative AI which as long as meta keeps their foot on the XR Industry gas pedal is a great thing meta's obsession with making the metaverse their property was something that the entire world pretty much collectively hated so if it's true that Mark and meta are silently burying their metaverse out of embarrassment to work on AI then well let them bury it as long as they keep funding VR hardware and software obviously VR headset form factors are getting smaller and smaller and as you may know a familiar company big screen announced the beyond the smallest yards that ever made and while I've already made a video on my experience trying the headset and a few demos my actual time with it has been pretty limited however good news a pre-production unit has just arrived and I'll be spending the next few weeks with it putting in as many hours as I can but now that I have it I wanted to ask everyone here this is my question of the week to you guys if there's anything in particular you'd like for me to test on the Beyond just let me know down below and I will be streaming with it today he actually on Twitch so you'll be able to hear just a bit more about it if you hop in other than that leave a question of the week down below and I may just answer yours next and I'll see you all in the twitch stream or in the next video of course I wanted to say thank you to all of my patreon supporters especially my omegas I couldn't do any of this without shoes so don't forget to like this video if you loved it subscribe if you want more of this and hit that freaking Bell if you just can't live without it much love real loud [Music]
