hey guys it's Brian here again and today is a very exciting day today we're going over the 2024 Toyota Tacoma this is the very first one that our dealership got and as the owner of a 2021 off-road it's great to be sitting in a new version of the off-road I won't be able to drive it in this video because this is a sold unit however I'll take some time to share what I think about the way it drives because today I actually did go to Toyota training and drive a bunch of different raids of the new Tacoma excluding the hybrids and I've got quite a few things to say comparing the V6 to the uh incoming four-cylinder turbo but with that said we're going to go over the exterior first we'll talk about the engine and drivetrain I'll show you some of the underbody stuff we'll go over some changes work our way inside and wrap it up with a quick little talk about how they drive let's begin for 2024 the top selling midsize truck has changed in every aspect besides one the body shapes have changed the energy and the vibe of the truck has changed headlights and tail lights even the whole entire frame is changed the seats are totally different the way it shifts is different the power plant under the hood is completely different but the one thing that stayed the same is if you're used to driving the third generation and owning it and parking it the overall length of the fourth generation Tacoma is exactly the same which means if you buy one of these it's going to fit exactly the way you're used to and since I always like to start with the exterior of the vehicle first in my overviews let's start with the front end of the new Tacoma but starting with the front the first thing I like that Toyota did not do is do all Grill like they did on the tundra I like how we still have that snout that the Tacoma has always been known for that's even shared now on the seoa the headlights are one of my my favorite Parts I like how much black Toyota did on this headlight on the side of the headlight it actually says Tacoma it's really tough to see in this lighting there it is and the LED lights with the projector beam are going to be standard on every trim level for great nighttime visibility with an incandescent orange bulb right inside for the turn signal SL side marker the LEDs are a little more narrow to the front in a rectangular shape we don't quite have that sparkly dark gray finish that we had on the third generation this is just a simple flat black there's a little bit of a design here which kind of resembles that design it's almost like a skin design or a leather thing basketball texture that resembles what you would see on the dashboard and no more sensor inside of the emblem in the front just a flat black sensor I mean flat black emblem with the sensor down below not shiny which is nice so that's going to blend in and tuck away very nicely and underneath since it's an off-road it doesn't have that massive wind diffuser skirt whatever you want to call it that people talk about that they want to remove right away and we have a plastic shield underneath little bit controversial but this is what's coming from the factory it seems to be some type of a fiber plastic tow hooks on each side let me give you a little peak of the suspension since we're under here there's my separate reservoir on the off-road for the billins which are going to handle those bumps rocks and all the Great Adventures you're going to be on a lot better than we're used to working our way over to the side instead of that simple round Fender Flare that we're used to seeing in that third generation we have more of a dramatic hexagonal shape I think Toyota coined the term technical muscle which are like these edgy muscular lines that the new generation of trucks have it's definitely popping out on these fender flares here and since we're working on the fender flare we have a vent built into the fender flare which is pretty cool I don't really know what exactly that's doing because it's not channeling to the brakes but it's cool and from the side it definitely adds to the overall width of that truck especially from a distance it just gives that truck a mean wide look nestled inside these fender flares are the new Wheels there are a lot of new style wheels for the new Tacomas these are the 17-in mached with powdercoated I believe black wheels for the TD off-road with six spokes there's a little bit of a resemblance in style from the last generation but if you get close that Machining here on the outside is done very nicely not so much of a gloss finish like you see on the third gen this is going to be a lot less glossy and totally matte black with perfectly matching matte black lugs another thing I notice the front mud flaps are quite a bit smaller I'm sure Toyota had their reasoning for it they're more squared instead of rounded which kind of goes with the edgy look and since we're down here let's take a peek at the underbody now we have a look at this new boxed frame instead of the c channel frame on the new Tacoma big long fuel tank let's take a minute to look at the side profile again something that Toyota said was they wanted this truck to look like it's going fast whether it's parked or actually driving and looking at it it really does kind of have that look the edges here I guess this is the belt the belt's normally higher on the truck but this is definitely more dramatic and the lighting is perfect on this silver paint to show you we have a more beefy front end over here at this angle these almost look like the last generation headlights and there's those tail lights that resemble the tundra on the top here I really like this this little fin here I know it's the little stuff but that little tiny detail just gives it that fast look that's really cool we don't have color matching handles so these are going to be a non-painted simple handle here this could be a good or a bad thing some people will associate this with cheapness some people will like this because it's going to take the beating especially if you wear Rings if your passengers wear Rings this is going to take a beating and not look all scratched up over the years which is really nice moving on to the mirror it's almost the same shape it's pretty much the same size it protrudes a lot more through this side which kind of it plays nicely claiming the lines come together but I like that it's still easy to fold and it goes the opposite way too there's no electronic mechanism to break if somebody smacks it no problem keeping things pretty simple on the Tacoma I love these big red tail lights and when I was at Toyota training today the day of filming we were driving all different grades in different colors and over the third generation not only are these way brighter when you're braking and have your running lights on they're way bigger so when you signal it's big big it's huge and it gets a lot of attention versus that little dim L shape that you get on the third generation so for the point of visibility I'm really loving these tail lights a lot and playing more into the exterior style another thing I like I'm a weirdo I just like certain things I like this Edge how it comes out like this it doesn't need that dramatic black lip that some of the trucks have but I really like how we have that chopped Edge that comes back out like this really nice let's talk about the decal for a second something interesting the decal slightly slanted on a few of the trucks I've seen I'm pretty sure they're probably doing that on purpose hopefully but it's definitely slightly slanted the font is the same not as sparkly and glossy as the third generation but it's a cool decal I mean I'm not going to Gras for straws on this truck the back glass not standard here for the sliding rear window and for the ones that have the sliding rear window it's definitely smaller which you'll see in other videos that you've probably already watched or more of my videos to come the bed is deeper and it's fully composite this one is fully composite with the spray on liner which is really nice that's a nice combo so we have the deeper bed here the bed top here so this material I didn't really see anybody talk about this on the third generation the design here is slippery now I don't know why somebody would be stepping on this but I'm sure there are plenty of people that do this not only grips my hands it will definitely grip a boot or a shoe very nice so if you have to step on this to get up onto your roof rack or you step on here and then you step on here this is way grippier and I don't know I mean they had to have done this on purpose but it's super grippy which is really nice down below we still see that same extra thick coating of paint that has almost like a sprayed appearance some people get a new Tacoma for the first time and they're scared they think it's a defect this is totally on purpose from the factory they apply extra thick coating of paint with this texture just to take the beating even more and more of that film from the factory in that weak point that takes the beating here that's going to take a lot of dirt and gravel and also just like the third generation this little protector in the corner over here to prevent the erosion which could cause r rust here's a quick view inside the rear wheel well no more leaf springs guys we have the multi-link rear suspension these things eat potholes for lunch I can tell you from experience I spent a couple hours with these it is a huge upgrade from the third gen and I love my third gen but this multi-link rear suspension is awesome now the very base model the SR will have the leaf springs and the detuned drivetrain those leaf springs will probably handle a a little bit more of a load but this rear suspension is great for the daily driving and you can still Tow and haul the same let's get an up close view of these gorgeous tail lights super bright red with the reverse light nice and high up here in the middle some of the upgraded models will have a button on the driver's side to push and that'll come down electronically and go up so some of these Tacomas have an electronic down and an electronic up for the tailgate which is super convenient with a button on the inside of the truck in case you forgot to close it another big thing here not only is Tacoma stamped bigger but this is a big thing we have the High Jack point on both sides so this Frame actually extends to give you high jack point which makes sense because if you are going to off-road and you get a flat the jack that your truck comes with is basically useless so get yourself a jack get yourself a hijack and you can just stick the hook right up in here and you crank it and you can get that truck lifted up and you can put the spare on a lot more efficiently and a lot safer than the stock Jack speaking of jacking up the truck and changing the tire let's take a peek down below at one of the elephants in the room the spare so you see the tread pattern here and you see the tread pattern there we have kind of like a temporary spare that doesn't have the same tread as what we're daily driving with so this is going to be just to get you to the tire shop so you can get one of your alterate tires back on I think the reasoning behind this was Toyota figured well if you're off-roading you're going to notice how low this spare tire hangs compared to the third gen probably at the cost of that deeper bed so they might figure you might even just take this out for departure and you might mount a spare over here which is going to be easier access so but I don't know what the thought process was but just to share with you guys it's not necessarily a negative thing but this is a temporary spare with different tread and here's a little poke underneath just so you can see what's going on the exhaust is Big this could be a slight negative too so I mean because of offroading and I don't do extreme off-roading but I do off-road if you look here that's hanging a lot lower than the third gen usually you can't even see that and it's angled up more and this exhaust is is hanging so you may see some of your extreme Overlander guys actually rip this out and do a side exit or maybe just have it exitting closer to here because as you come out and you really look at it I mean we're talking 5 and 1/2 6 in of exhaust hanging but let me know what you think about that down below guys now for the Tacomas that don't have the automatic release on the bed works the same the dampener is a lot slower works the same love the spray bed liner but one thing I want to share real quick because I'm trying to keep this concise guys I'm super excited about this truck but one thing on the third gen your bedl light is here they put them in the middle now and why is that important I mean of course you have these but if you have the tunnel cover and your bed lights are like mine on the third gen way over here it makes it kind of tough to light up stuff in the back so with these bed lights in a better position we're getting even light on both sides horizontal I mean it just it makes sense and this tailgate is a lot lighter a lot lighter just like on the tundra which is really nice to see and feel I think that's enough in the exterior let's pop the hood and talk about the power plant changes on the new Tacoma so besides that frame and obviously the design the biggest change is the powertrain on the new 24 for Tacoma Toyota has gotten rid of the coveted 3.5 V6 that had the automatic six-speed or the six-speed manual and they're now offering the t24 a FTS which is a 2.4 twin scroll Turbo with an 8-speed automatic that definitely shifts better than the sixspeed automatic and they offer a six-speed manual on select trims so that will be available in the SR not the SR5 and also the TRD off-road and the TRD sport we're talking about the manual transmission that manual transmission guys is not offered on any hybrid so remember if you want the iForce Max which is coming out this summer you will not be able to get it in a manual transmission on this 24 off-road the horsepower is the same to the horse at 278 horsepower with 317 torque so the torque has gone up from the V6 but the horsepower has stayed the same now like I said I took some time to drive these trucks when I went to Toyota training today and I will say this the lowend power is there on the turbo so at 15 maybe 1,700 RPMs all the way through three grand the power's instant however once I get past 4,000 RPMs it kind of dries out that's where the V6 opens up so on the V6 Tacoma the third gen you would be waiting for the power and once you get past 4,000 RPMs you have about 2,000 RPMs of Glory this is basically the opposite now the transmission this 8-speed automatic does not have that awkward shiftiness that the six-speed automatic on the third gen has so that's actually one of the chief complaints on the V6 and the solution was a uh I think it's the Power Commander or whatever you call it I'm drawing a blank but there's a computer um module that you can put onto the truck I opted out of it just cuz I'm a stock boy but that's no longer an issue here so on the 8-speed automatic there's no guess work this truck does not guess when do I shift what do I do it doesn't do that awkward thing where it upshifts even though you're stepping on the throttle for gas mileage we have 19 in the city 23 on the highway with a blend of 21 so this is a very very slight upgrade from the V6 which was 18 to 22 with a blend of 20 but just looking around I still see simple engineering I'm not a MasterTech I'm not a mechanic but things are easy to get to I can check my fluids easily this is a regular gas model it's not a hybrid which would be a more complex truck but things are looking pretty simple here I know some people have their wos about the turbo and it's understandable especially on a new model model but this is what we have now and driving this truck I would say it's got good power it's definitely great for the uh Urban driving or for people that just really want that low-end torque and I think people will be very happy with this truck you know just like in the tundra people didn't want to get rid of the V8 and I love the V8 but that v61 turbo in the tundra is great I think people are going to enjoy this as well some people are going to miss the V6 some people are going to welcome this with open arms that's the way the market goes folks to summarize the powertrain we have three engine options on the new Tacoma we have the four-cylinder turbo which most of them are going to have we have the D- tuned four-cylinder turbo which the SR work truck is going to have that's going to save you on cost then we have the upgraded four-cylinder Turbo Hybrid for the I force Max which is going to give you over 400 torque and it's going to be for those that want all the power now let's go inside the new Tacoma and talk about if the space on the inside isang changed and if so how much so first this is the crew cab / double cab couple cab uh terms have changed the axis cab that we know and love has gone away and it's just kind of like an extended cab where you'll have the uh B pillar solid with no opening back door and no back seats so those trucks are pretty much going to be mostly two seaters and with this you'll have the option for the uh double cab SL crew cab and you can see that the back door here on this crew cab does look a little bit smaller than the back door on the third generation crew cab so let's get inside and take a peek and remember I'm the owner of a 2021 so I'm going to do my best to be as unbiased as possible let's start with the door real quick nice TRD get a quick peek inside of here and since the window sticker is here let's just give it a peek so starting with the door here pretty much all hard plastics the TRD is pretty cool I like how we can see inside of here cool design here on the speaker I do worry about dust getting in there very easily but that's a small thing for storage before we sit in the truck UND seat storage definitely went up these are giant buckets and there's no lid so on the third generation we have these little turny things which you always forgot which direction to turn it and you lift the door and the space was pretty much limited but in here this is definitely deeper and I love how there's nowhere for water to go so I can throw anything in here and of course we have these little Easter egg pictures of trucks Toot's been doing that a lot lots of space but this does not stay up on its own like in most other trucks Toyota developed this very unique snap so I will imagine this is going to be a little hard to get used to in the beginning but let's see if I can oneand it on the first try there's a little snap here and that's tough so I can't oneand that you'll definitely need two hands but you'll see there's a little snap over here interesting that Toyota went that direction but I'm not going to yank on this thing too hard you have that on both sides The Styling of the seat is updated you got these ribs here which are going to help with your temperature control and it's going to be an updated styling the way the cushion feels is firmer on the outside softer on the inside which is very interesting cuz on the third gen it's just soft down the board we still have the same hook style here and Toyota still put the rope in the middle which I talked about which is really tough to reach for some people I think they could have put it right over here but I'm grabbing for straws behind the seat we have a little bit reduced storage compared to the third gen and some unfinished material I'm not sure why they didn't go with a hard plastic here I'm not sure if this is going to fray in 100,000 miles but I can fit some of my stuff in there but I guess the storage underneath is making up for the storage that I lost in the back now this seat is set up for somebody slightly taller than me so we're going to go in anyway I'm 5 foot 9 to 10 depending on the day in the shoes I'm wearing but let's hop up in of course we have the handle in the back now so a couple things I'm noticing here the first thing behind my shoulder I have have a lot more material here so on the third gen this window goes back this is a little bit more cramped at least visually my peripheral is out I have to look around to really see what's going on so as a passenger you may like this for privacy reasons or you may feel a little bit more cramped the handle's definitely cool I know a lot of people could use that especially if you're going to lift the truck the armrest is in the perfect location for most people and then with the window down we now have a flat surface instead of round so I can rest my arm and it's not going to slide off as easy very upright position on my back the seat is definitely in my face not a whole lot I can see here besides this and this of course I can peek over but overall it's sufficient it did not increase I would say the rear seat space probably without looking at the numbers it looks like it decreased very slightly not a ton these seats are a little bit more of a bucket so this is a unique thing I'm going to mention some people like myself if you're out and about and say you get migraines like me I'm just going to put it how it is I was blessed with getting migraines from time to time and a couple times a year when I get a really bad migraine I actually will lay down in the back of my third gen Tacoma and roll up a jacket or a book bag and use it as a pillow and fall asleep and sleep off my migraine so with these bucket Styles I wonder if it's going to be a little bit awkward because this is super firm this is super soft on the third gen it's just all super soft it's just a giant pillow really cool now we're going for more sporty style so we got a lot of Peaks and valleys for people that might want to use this as a couch I'm sure Toyota did not care about that because I'm assuming most people are not laying down in this as a couch but just a thought for the 1% of people that might be like me and actually catch some z's in the back of their coma another thing that's different uh these have little slots they can go in instead of the kangaroo pouch that the third gen had and for my third seat belt for the middle I can actually disconnect it and retract it all the way back up into the back over here and just get that out of the way completely which is nice you can't do that on the third gen so for vacuuming and just getting it out of the way so it doesn't snag on stuff you can just out of the way and these boom boom gone as opposed to stuffing them up in a little pouch the hooks for the car seats are super easy to get to but that's common on every Toyota no armrest in the back no big deal the headrests look about the Same Led now that's super bright white LED looks different in the camera and we have some hooks in the back here for Stuff the rear glass little less visibility and the sliding rear window like I mentioned is not standard for the trucks that have the the sliding rear window it's going to look normal in here but from the outside it's going to look tiny so don't judge it from the outside get in the back and look it actually works just fine Toyota if you ever watch my videos please do consider having the Tacoma windshield in the back go down all the way and retract into the body like the tundra because had you done that on the Tacoma and this one all the way down you would probably have people buying the truck just for that down below no ventilation but I do have two USB plugs so I don't have vents would have been nice to see vents I believe some of the new Tacomas will have Vents and this looks like a dummy plug for some additional charging I know the hybrids are going to have some serious um wattage for your uh inverter in the back you're going to be able to plug in pretty much anything you want which is going to be awesome I can't wait to see those and no more pouch here just a pouch here that's fine I I think the third gen only had a pouch here so the driver could reach it that's all good and dandy same cup holders as before slightly different style but overall I would say back here it's a little bit more sporty but it's still going to work but if you have really tall people they're not going to be happy being back here but speaking of being anywhere let's go over to the co-pilot seat and work our way up top to the front of the new Tacoma now real quick for my taller people for my over 6ot people the Tacoma has a higher height for Headroom so if you go with one without the sunroof you're going to notice a substantial amount more space for your head especially compared to the third generation if you get the sunroof you're still going to have plenty of space but if you really want to optimize space you're going to be able to do so with this new generation Tacoma moving on definitely very sporty very aggressive looks a lot better to some people than that third generation I like to air a little bit more on the side of reserved to me this is a little bit Cutting Edge not bad in any way I would have liked to see some courtesy lights that light up that's not a big deal I do like though how I can see what's inside of here so that's nice so you don't literally forget anything and the ti is pretty cool I don't know if I think that's gimmicky or not yet but that's pretty cool this is a rubberized finish here which I really like on the top there toot is definitely using everywhere to to make an edge or a design or a line on this new Tacoma one thing little tiny ity bitty bitty bit of padding here we didn't get much on the third generation so I'm not here to beat up the 24 Tacoma I know there's a big group of people that want to beat it up bad I like that they didn't go with chrome one thing I noticed is when these lock and unlock they're quiet a lot quieter than the third gen which is really nice and a height adjustment for the passenger which is super cool so For the Shorties you can pump yourself up for the tall people you can pump it down you know sometimes in the third gen you get in there and it's just a weird height for you you can customize that height which is really nice I'm a fan of manual seats cuz it's one less thing to break and you can slide that seat back really fast but like I said I'm weird about some things interesting to see cloth on the offroad these are tiny tiny little floor mats I find that very interesting I would have thought the floor mat would have went a little further up even though it's cloth I'm hoping and I'm sure that these rubber mats if you get the rubber will go out further but I would suspect that a lot of people are going to be doing your Weather Tech and your huskys and your stuff like that I'm a huge fan of Weather Tech these dorsal protectors also here's another change they're really little they remind me of the ones in a Corolla and they don't wrap over and around if you went with the third gen you had this like plastic film basically that went all the way down here so this is different stronger and thicker but smaller that's interesting one of my favorite things is how it says Tacoma here and on this off-road we have a very dark grayish bronze color here let me show you with my flashlight that's a really cool color some of them are going to have a white insert here and on the driver's side some of them will have blue and on The Limited it's going to be a wood grain which from a distance you think is a topographical map but it's actually a fake wood grain which is really nice on there no more of those turny locky vents now we have more of a traditional vent storage up top let's see the glove box little less on the depth about the same on the height cabin air filter is going to be easy to change as to be expected and then locks with your slide out key for the Tacomas that have the digital key you're going to get two key fobs One credit card key which I'm sure you've seen pictures of it's a little black credit card that actually has a slide out key as well but does not have a keychain hook and then you'll have that digital key from the app when you get signed up let's hop in real quick I'm going to put the seat back just a teeny bit so you can see a little better the 14-in screen is huge make sure you check out the tutorial that I'm going to be posting for this truck this handles for the passenger rubberized finish on the top on the bottom I can kind of feel a little bit of edgy plastic here would have been nice if they wrapped the rubber all the way around but this is me grabbing for straws and we have the bag hook some charging for the passenger most of them when you get them upgraded will be Wireless over here there's your phone holder this lid is heavy and it it doesn't come up automatically and it doesn't slam down which is nice you can pretty much put it in any position it's an interesting sensation I'm sure there's going to be some Aftermarket accessories to go in here little less deep just past the wrist a little wider no charging in here for this trim remember Toyota's changed things with the Tacomas so we now package a lot of stuff in so you can turn a $43,000 truck into a $63,000 truck very quickly if you want to load it load it load it so there's a lot of different ways to get these trucks there's over 200 different combinations you can get these Tacomas in for visibil a passenger it's really good and speaking of visibility they changed the grab handle so this grab handle here is not a through handle so there's no way to go through and it's interesting because when you're getting in the truck I'll show you if you're a lefty and you do it Lefty it comes very naturally but you stand up tall if you go on righty this is going to be really awkward so I'm assuming what Toyota has you doing is just grabbing it like this and just doing the Twist and it works when you're going off-roading or you're hitting bumps you probably do an overhand grip and then you grip this and I feel like you can pretty much stabilize yourself you also have this full handle to grip as well a lot different than the third gen people are going to beat that up but I'm sure Toyota had the reason for it if I get an answer I'll let you guys know but trying to keep this video concise and it's not going to be a concise video this is going to be a deep video because I'm a Tacoma guy and I just going to share this new truck with you guys and my interpretation but trying to keep it somewhat healthily leveled let's go into the driver's seat talk about some of this stuff and then wrap up this video and the moment you've been waiting for what it's like getting into your brand new 2024 Toyota Tacoma TI off-road so on the door same story as the passenger side not a whole lot we're going to do nice upgrade to see on the tngf trucks Auto down Auto up one touch all around jealous of that as a third gen owner manual seat on this Tacoma with the height adjuster simple slider I love a manual I will admit but we have an electronic lumbar support which is really nice too of course locking driver side big control panel in case you want to add accessories and on the trail Hunter Edition you will actually have accessory 1 2 and three and you're going to get some wire harness adapters from the factory in different points of the truck to add different accessories plug and play with Toyota's assistance which is really nice to see so we don't have to risk splicing or Drilling and cutting and having Jagged edges and super bright blue buttons with the dim blue not matching we're going to get a factory finish on that Tacoma when you go up to that level which is really nice let's step inside real quick [Applause] definitely a lot sportier a lot more Cutting Edge that push start button is definitely in a way better spot as a third gen owner I even look after 3 years sometimes I have to look ironically we have storage here there's a little cubby on some of the Tacomas we're going to have a brake controller right over here which is great to see brake controllers coming into the Tacoma because you can get travel trailers under 5,000 lb and you want the brake controller and it's factory stuff is nice I'm just going to say that you're going to hear me say that a lot I love it from the factory here's some of that bronze that dark grayish bronze going around very square bouldery look lot more design has worked into this truck one of my favorite things about the new Tacoma is the tundra shifter this fits the hand perfectly that is a human hand shape I love that the button and you shift all the way down all the way forward done no thinking simple the third gen was fine this is a tundra steering wheel let's power it up real quick brake push [Music] starter I will admit the little bling bling in the the beginning I'm not a fan of it reminds me of the Corolla but this is just me you know trying to give you an honest review for the gauges this is a fully digital 12.3 screen on the SR5 it's going to be one gauge with a digital speed but you have a tachometer and a spedometer here I will say this I'm not a fan of screens I like the tried andrue physical needles with the physical gauges somebody had to design it computer a draft it print it make it happen test it this is just software this is the old man and me speaking but the the tech is cool the software is cool and one of the examples of why the software is cool is because I have different pages where I can see multiple mids at once so on the speedometer I can see different information on both sides of the screen so I have a total of six mids and I can customize it too so here I got my settings I can change all my settings to my safety sense there's a lot more stuff if I go to meter settings the interesting thing about this being techy and softwar is when I go to meter style I can actually make this look different on the Fly see that so I can mix it up which is pretty cool you know being able to mix things up here's the Highlander one but we just kind of have this I don't know Legos plug andplay everything's the same and every model thing going on here you know I do like the thing where the speedometer you get in a Tacoma from the third gen is not going to exist in any other vehicle you know and the speedometer you get in the Camry you know a beautiful 24 Camry is not going to exist in any other Toyota and with this new way to change things it's just it's not unique to the Tacoma but at least this meter style does resemble the Las Toom a little bit with the gear salad gauges I'm not going to beat it up too much you know if you really want to beat up something we'll talk about the SR5 uh speedometer cluster with the bars on the sides but this is not I'm not a negative person I'm really grasping for straws because I like what Toyota makes you know to me nothing is perfect some people enjoy things that other people don't this is going to work for most people and it's very legible there's a lot of stuff going on though so comp comped to that third generation there's a ton of information in here and for some of the old school truck guys if you get into a TRD this might be a little bit much so that's why you'll see in the SR5 things are a lot more simple and you can even change what shows in here and totally make it fit you which is going to be in the tutorial for this truck couple different Drive modes here I have my crawl control multi-terrain select the tow hul mode so it'll default to drive mode and when I turn this dial check out the cool animation so it's going to change the animation there for the different Drive modes got the ECO mode to save gas there's my Turbo torque kicking in that's pretty cool the climate control system is also really nice the Dual Zone's not standard anymore which is interesting because we were all getting spoiled on the third gen but I have a big knob here with a rubberized finish for the F speed then I got a big knob here for the temperature and levers so I love it physical buttons we don't have anything on the screen for the climate control so good on Toyota and if I'm wearing work gloves or winter gloves I can operate all this stuff and I do like the finish on these levers here very interesting it's I don't know they feel good to touch but with gloves on I can operate all that stuff very nicely here's an up close view of those levers I think they're super cool I'm I'm geeking over these levers here and we have defrosting on the back window now instead of just the side mirrors which is nice not that I feel like we needed that in the back window cuz you never really got an accumulation of much on that back window but nice to see the upgrade and we now have the automatic parking brake on the Tacoma so when I put this in the park it's going to apply itself on its own and then we have the brake hold feature on the Tacoma now also I don't believe the truck has the auto start stop where the engine turns off of the red lights I haven't experienced that yet and I don't see the button to turn it off so that's really good in my opinion because with a turbo I don't want that engine turning off turning on turning off turning on I want the engine staying on so my Turbo can be fed some healthy oil and be lubricated and happy all the time instead of being baked turbo people you understand what I mean the locking differential here in the rear the button is dead center that's only going to work in four-wheel low and for the 4x4 system instead of a turn dial over here like on the third gen we now have a little button to push and a lever to go into four high so it feels natural it's very easy to use and you don't really have to reach anymore which is nice you can just push the dial you can push the dial and turn it on the third gen you had to actually reach and do this this I I don't even have to move anything my hand is just in its natural position I can just go in and go out super simple fully electronic and now that we're connected to the carplay just to show you guys we have an updated carplay system there's now a toolbar on the side so I don't have to look for the Toyota app anymore to get to the Toyota settings I can just quickly go in there and I can change my display settings lock settings light settings time everything and I can go right back to carplay which is simple but do be sure to check out the tutorial for this new software system because that's where we dive deep and I show you some really cool uh customizations you can do to the software but since I love you guys I'm going to show you my top favorite customizations real quick all right number one I really like how on the display I can just turn it off super easy if I don't want that screen in my face number two on the display obviously here's the brightness and the contrast but if I go to vehicle customize oh no hold on I missed something display there we go I can go into dark mode all the time but to reduce the reflection I'm going to go back to automatic for you all right another one I really like I just want to show you guys vehicle customize lights control I can change how long those headlights stay on to light up my driveway and the auto off timer for the interior lights I can make that go even longer if I want to another cool one is the door control these are my favorite ones that I'm going to finish up here with when the truck goes into the park the doors unlock when I go into drive they lock Park unlocks if I want them to stay locked when I park I can turn off the auto unlock right here and then when I put it back and park the door stay locked for more security but if I scroll down not a lot of people know I can actually make the truck less loud when I unlock it so that beep beep I can make it less loud or louder and those bright lights that that shine when you unlock it and lock it I can turn those off completely so if you want to be a little more blend in or if you go in the woods a lot or if you're at the driving movies or you're somewhere like a campsite where you want to be courteous you can change these on the Fly super cool stuff to customize this truck to fit your needs so there you have it guys this is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road not very upgraded still moderately affordable we're under 50 and we talked about the exterior I took some time to talk about the way it drives like I mentioned it eats potholes for lunch with the new multi-link rear suspension the boxed frame which it looks like there's a wax inside is going to be great for corrosion resistance and rust resistance longterm rigidity and just the toughness and the the strength of the truck is way upgraded the tngf frame takes the turns better than the third gen it doesn't have the guess work with the shifting so it's not Shifty like the third gen the power is more on the bottom it does not have that gorgeous beautiful hum of the V6 and the interior the side I'll say it to some people it might feel a little bit plasticky but we see that a lot in the the truck Market you know unless you go to the top of the line you're getting hard plastics because they're they're affordable and they're durable and they're lightweight and that's just what we do now with all of these new safety and Tech features everybody wants in these vehicles not everybody but a lot of people have been screaming for the manufacturers have to save money to put it into more important things and save weight so we're seeing that The Styling to me is amazing like I said I love the tail lights the silver really shows off these nice body lines but I have to say these giant red tailights look beautiful against a black Tacoma we then went inside and talked about the technology in the space the rear seats are a little bit smaller the non-standard back window sliding is a little bit of a bummer and I think Toyota could have blown us away with a fully sliding rear glass but we can't have it all the bed is deeper it's composite the spare tire is a temporary and we have hijack points it's a great truck I think it's going to make a lot of people happy reliability hasn't been proven yet and there are some people worried about it but you have to ask yourself something guys in conclusion is Toyota going to ruin their reputation of long-term reliability just to make a cool truck of course we take risks you know we always take risks in this everchanging market adding new stuff that the people want but do you think Toyota did a lot of research and development to make it as reliable as possible and will Toyota stay true to Kaizen by making things better over time time shall tell if you like the video please give it a like and share with somebody that you think would benefit from watching I know there's a lot of Tacoma videos out there so I hope that my Tacoma video was a nice little element to add and please subscribe for more Toyota content I promise it'll be worth it to my subscribers thank you so much I will see you in the comments section down below peace for e
