welcome to the full button tutorial on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma tierd off-road this tierd Offroad that we're sitting in is a base Tey off-road it doesn't have the upgraded packages there are a lot of different packages available for these trucks now this is the first year for the fourth generation Tacoma so there'll be a lot of different variations of trucks but this video If you finish it will apply to most Tacomas that you sit in so the basics will be covered and then as time goes on you may see different tutorials for the different grades with that said let's begin starting on the door the Tacoma now has one touch down one touch up Windows all around on all four the window lock button is very similar to the last generation if you push this you get a little green LED moving our way up we have the door lock buttons there still are two little nubbies compared to the third generation so you can just feel for the lock button and that's going to be the same on your key fob to change the mirror adjustments on the side doors you can just it R for the right mirror and toggle it or all the way to L for the left mirror toggle it and if you push lightly there's a neutral position so when you push this nothing happens to the mirror adjustment since we're working with more of a base off-road we have the manual seats so to move the seat forward and back you simply pull up this bar and you can slide the seat forward and back to raise the seat you can pump this lever up or push it down and release you just got to keep pushing it down to get the seat down or keep pulling it up to get the seat up to recline the seat there's a lever back here just like all other cars with the manual seat and then we have an electronic button here for the lumbar support So if I push this forward I'll get a little bit more lower back support and vice versa below the dash we have the hood release down to the floorboards just like all Toyotas we have the twist and lock system for the floor mats if the arrows all line up the floor mat is locked I always recommend giving a quick tug just to make sure it's locked just like the last generation Tacoma we have the bedl light lever slash button here so if I push this on the LED bed lights will light up no matter what I'm doing the middle selection here only puts the bedl light on with the door open and then this keeps it off no matter what on the top part of the control panel here I have the button to activate the auto high beams these changed a little bit from the third generation so when I have the lights in Auto As Long As I push the auto high beams on I no longer have to push the stock forward to get the high beams in fact by pushing the stock forward it bypasses the auto high beams and gives me high beams whenever I need them if you were working with a third generation you would have had to fish around for this at night time turn it off and then put these on to get the high beams so definitely a really good upgrade there next to the auto high beams we have the button to turn off the traction control if you push and hold while you're off-roading and you're in 4x4 this will actually turn off the vehicle stability control which is great it may even do that when you're not in 4x4 up top here we have the control for the brightness to the gauges so when I push this button it's going to change the brightness to the gauges symbolized by that little bar there and back to the brightest setting and next to that finally for the Tacoma we have a headlight level adjuster on the fly so that electronically adjusts the headlight level so if you're towing or hauling and you need a little bit more light or you don't want to blind people you can point those lights down or up another great upgrade to see on the Tacoma for adjusting the steering wheel is the same thing as most Toyotas by pulling this lever down I can telescope that steering wheel I can raise it or lower and once I find the perfect spot I can lock it right back in place let's give the Tacoma a quick startup I have the key fob on me right here and they move the location of the push starter button from this area which now we have a cubby to up top where we can actually see it so by pushing the brake and the push starter she starts right up for the left steering wheel stock I have four different positions DRL off rides with no exterior lights so no tail lights or no daytime Runner lights no headlights totally incognito mode you'll be less noticeable next is automatic mode so I'll have daytime Runner lights during the day which are the headlights on during the day only and at night time when it gets dark enough or I'm going through a tunnel or a really shady area the auto sensor on the dashboard will sense as dark and it will kick on your tail lights and light up all your interior buttons as as well most people choose to leave this in Auto this is the mode you want to be in to activate your auto high beams as well next is parking lights parking lights are very important because this will give you the dim lights in the front the tail lights on and all your interior buttons lit up this is great for when you're in a very busy area and you want your vehicle to be noticeable but you don't want people to confuse you with a moving vehicle or a vehicle that's in traffic next is headlights you still have the manual option for headlights for two reason reasons you might not like the auto feature and you might want to put the headlights and tail lights on during the day so for those people that really want ultimate safety and they want all lights on all the time you have the option here inside we have the ring for the fog lights not all Tacomas will have fog lights but most will so that's your little fog light symbol there's off there's on you can go into parking lights with fog lights on for when it's really foggy and you need that low light down close to the road Only onto the right steering wheel stock just like most toyot this looks like it's right out of a Camry we have a couple different selections for going downward if I click it down once it's intermittent so it goes once in a while and I can change how often those wiper blades wipe to a few different speed settings so if it's only misting out I can turn it way down if I click down again it's going to be low constant and if I click down a third time it's going to be high constant on to the steering wheel so on the left side of the steering wheel we have a pad here with left and right and an up and down clicker the back button the the phone button to answer and hang up calls volume selection for music or phone calls and the voice command button the back button is going to be operated on the mid which is the screen here inside of the speedometer the okay button is also going to operate on the mid and the up down left right are going to operate on the mid if somebody calls I can hang up or answer right here now for the volume like I said that's radio or phone calls that's not on the mid that's on the infotainment screen and this button here for voice commands there's two systems if push it once real quick it's going to use the audio for Toyota so your audio assistant if I push and hold it's going to start up Siri if you have an Apple phone or the Google Assistant if you have one of those phones like the Android types Google Etc and you can make voice commands on that on to the right side of the steering wheel so the right side of the steering wheel has a little bit more of a driving Dynamic to it we have the button for the cruise control we have the cruise control mode which we'll talk about in a moment the following distance SL sensitivity to the cruise control the lane departure alert with steering assist and Lane Trace assist so those are all on the new Tacoma unlike the third gen that only beeped this will actually steer you and keep you in your lane cancel for the cruise control resume and then I have increase or decrease speed there these are not related to driving this is just mode for AM FM Bluetooth Etc and then I have my song select back and forth right here so a second ago you heard me say we would talk about the cruise control modes yes I have two different cruise controls on the Tacoma I have the old school cruise control which is a constant speed then I have the adaptive cruise control or dynamic radar cruise control whatever you like to call it where you can change the sensitivity and it'll slow down and speed up on its own so how do you tell the difference between the two different modes on your mid when you hit cruise control you'll get a little symbol that either looks like this which is a spomer with an arrow and a car or if I hit that mode button it'll change it to this which is just a speedometer with an arrow the speedometer with the arrow is the old school cruise control that will not break or speed up for you if I push the mode again it'll change to the one with the car and the arrow moves to the right this is going to be your Dynamic radar cruise control that adjusts then of course I can just set that increase speed decrease speed and change the following distance right there and speaking of things that integrate between the steering wheel and the m/ speedo screen let's take a few minutes to go over what this screen looks like and what's on it we are fully digital now for the Tacoma if you go with the SR5 this will be a smaller square with a single gauge for your tachometer with your digital speed and then you'll have little notches for the fuel and the engine temperature on the sides this being an off-road has the upgraded screen so your gauges are going to show the tack and a gauge for the speed with a digital speed in the middle as you can see here on the top left we have the outside temp we have the time which this is the wrong time by the way what gear we're in and instead of those little notches on the left and right we have real I want to say meters for your fuel level and your engine temperature on the left and right which I really like to see definitely an upgrade from the base model truck using the arrows from the steering wheel I can go left and right and go through three different menus signified by the number in the center so these three different menus are basically Pages where you can see different information inside of each gauge I'm not going to fully break down this screen because I did do a video on the 12.3 speedometer which is a recent post within the last couple months but I will just go over a couple of the basics with you so as I go through pages 1 2 and 3 you'll notice on page two settings is in the middle if I push and hold okay on the steering wheel and then I hit okay again I can go through my settings and change all different stuff inside the truck so my Lane departure alert I can hold okay to change different settings here like if it's going to vibrate the alert timing the blind spot monitor I can turn on and off if the truck is equipped with it the pre-collision system I can turn on and off the proactive driving assist I can turn on and off that's a new feature for Toyota safety sense where the truck will slow down if if you're taking turns too fast the rear cross traffic alert is the feature where when you're reversing it's going to beep when it senses movement specifically cars driving by and sometimes people this is not parking sensors or sonar that will beep faster as you get closer to things this just simply senses movement road sign assist I can turn on and off that's the one that's going to read the road signs if I push and hold okay I can change the notification method or level in vehicle set there's a couple things here so the brake suggestion for the sway warning which senses if you're driving sleepy I can change that there are even some settings here for the dynamic radar cruise control like the acceleration amount the guide messaging and the curve speed reduction so very advanced stuff for that automatic cruise control trailer settings which are totally new for the Tacoma I can set up to 10 trailers believe it or not so I can add trailers name them it'll give me the type and all that good stuff and I can do trailer light checking alert for the tailgate from when I have a power tailgate tire pressure warning system settings look at this all these advanced settings for the tire pressure I love this stuff I wish I had it on my third gen maintenance scheduling oil maintenance individually and the rear seat reminder I can turn on and off and the stop lights display now I'm hitting the back button so lots of stuff in there if I push and hold okay again in settings just to show you I have all all these Advanced features that I can change and customize but my favorite thing here are the meter settings if I hold okay I can change the meter style check this out so it comes with the tough one but here's casual which is like the Highlander or I'm sorry smart is like the Highlander look familiar guys RAF 4 Prime here sporty for my TRD sports but I got to say the tough is really cool and rugged they look like gear that's the closest resemblance to the third gen and I really like those third gen gauges they just look rugged and tough this is a digital version of that we're going to go ahead and keep that so in these settings here there's even more stuff for the meter I can turn on and off my fuel economy I can change settings for it do the average it goes on and on I can turn off certain pop-up items so when I change the volume or I change the drive mode or I change the different information and do different things if I don't like it popping up on the screen I can turn those on and off and I can go back to default so lots of settings here in the new screen for the Toyota Tacoma lastly on the speedo cluster I can actually change what's in all of these different pages so you see page one two and three show different stuff so let's just go to page one say I wanted to change the turbo gauge on the left if I push hold okay I put the left Arrow over here see I can go left and right so I can pick what side of the screen I want to change and then I'll hit okay and I can go up and down and I can pick what information I want to show but I think the turbo gauge is nice so I'm just going to select that say I want to go to the right side and I don't want my average I want to turn it into something else like navigation there I go so I can have my nav next to my Turbo if I hit right again I can even turn off what's available to even show so there's no redundancy which is nice then I'll go back to select there we go sorry I got to hit the back button that's what it is page two same thing I can change what these show and Page Three I can change what that shows so say I don't really care about the roll and Pitch cuz I'm not off-roading all that much or when I'm off-roading I just really don't want to see that there's something more important I want to see I can just push and hold okay go to the right and pick something else say I'm getting ready to do my trailer and I want to get that set up boom I'm done hit the back button and I'm all set now page three is more customized to me so really nice I wanted to keep that simple you can totally change all this different information and it's almost like you have two mids now unlik one so it's a lot of stuff going on in the beginning but once you figure out what it is there's a lot of customization and a lot of info you can see now let's take a break and move on to something a little easier let's go down to buttons near the shifter buttons near the shifter on the new Tacoma so the elephant in the room is this giant tuna can and it's got a rubberized finish here and some fake bolts but they look cool this is actually a couple different things this is the selector for my drive modes it's also the selector for my multi-terrain Tow and Hall and decline assist control with crawl so operates all this different stuff if I push this little button here I can actually turn this lever to four high and it snaps in if I go into neutral then I can put it into four low and then go into drive and I'm [Music] done back to two high simple let's break that down a little bit more so depending on which one of these four selections you want to select it will light up which I'll darken this a little bit more so you can see and that way you know what you're changing when you turn this dial so for drive mode it's going to default too when I change this it's going to show up on here so here's my sport mode that's going to give me more power normal mode it's going to be for normal driving eco mode is going to save me the gas and D power it more for stop go traffic on your higher end models like The Limited this will actually tune the suspension as well but but on an off-road this is just going to electronically change the mapping for the engine and transmission for tow and Hall mode I just hit Tow hul and I turn the dial over I'll get a little animation that says tow haul that's going to get the truck ready for towing and Hauling for multi-terrain select once I'm in four-wheel drive high and I'm in gear I can change the terrain by turning the dial and I can pick between dirt Auto sand mud and deep snow so we have some pretty cool graphics I can pick whatever terrain I'm in just by simply turning this and it's going to change some of the ways that the 4x4 system works in order to handle that appropriately now let's go from four high to four low remember we got to go to neutral obviously we're at a stop we push this little button here and change the lever to 4 then we pick our gear driver reverse now I can hit crawl control so when I hit crawl control I get this cool animation of a truck crawling and on the right here you'll see the speed crawl control is a low speeed cruise control so you'll see the meter here gives me my speed and then basically I take my foot off the brake and the truck modulates the throttle when I'm driving off-road and that's going to let me focus on steering and handling myself while I'm going off-roading and for the 4x4 system say I'm done in four low I want to go back out of it what I want to do is come to a stop put it in neutral then I can select four high it's just warning me that the crawl is deactivated and then whether I'm in driver or neutral I can put this back into two high because four high can be activated while moving for low has to be a stop now we have one more important button here skipping these we'll go over these at the end but we have one really important button here that only certain Tacomas have the locking rear differential so for the locking rear differential you have to be in four-wheel low and this is going to lock the two rear wheels together so that you're not trying to power the truck by the wheel that does not have traction both wheels are going to be traveling and locked in at the same speed so one of the wheels is not on that trail the other wheel will pick up the slack and they're just going to power the way through which is really going to enhance your grip especially when you're going through dips like moul when you're Offroad then we have some more simple buttons here over by the four-wheel drive system we have the automatic parking brake which we can disengage on our own but you don't have to and the brake holder so fun fact about the new Tacoma unlike the third generation which had a pole handle for the park brake we have a self- applying automatic electronic parking brake which is going to park on those disc brakes in the back so right now I'm in park which I can tell because it says P here in the middle and the parking brake is on signified by the red over here when I take it out of park it disengages on its own which you can see the park symbol went away and then once I put it back in park within a couple seconds the parking brake applies and it says Park back in red again so it's self- applying and you may be able to feel that in the brake pedal as well the brake hold button is very convenient for City driving or if you're at the drive-thru this allows you to take your foot off the brake when you're still in drive to rest your feet you have to be buckled up and it only works in drive so we're going to go into drive and when we push this button you'll see on the bottom right of the screen we have two symbols that say hold the green one means that the features on the gold one means that it's active so once we see it say it in Gold I can actually take my foot off the brake even though I'm in drive now once the light goes green or the drive-through line starts moving I can just give it a little bit of gas and you'll see the the gold goes away and the truck moves a couple feet and once I come to a stop and it says it in Gold over there I can now take my foot off the brake while I'm in gear super simple drive only and lastly by the shifter the actual shifter we have a tundra shifter this fits the hand perfectly with an overhand grip all I have to do is push the button and slide it down in a drive it really takes the guesswork out of it there's no over and down like in the third generation and you really don't have to look down at this for two reasons one you just go all the way forward to park it or all the way down to drive it two clicks up to reverse or one click away from Park to reverse but you don't have to look down not only from the feel but it's going to tell you in a big letter right there in the center so I have the r for reverse drive and if I move this shifter over to the left I can actually toggle through the gears forward and back in order to drive this like a stick shift and really control those revs and another thing I noticed about this new Tacoma whenever I step on the brake the bottom of the speedometer shows these two red lines very interesting and I wonder what the point of that is so if anybody knows why it would signify when I'm pressing the brake with those two little red lines why that matters to me or how that helps me let me know down below let's move on the climate control has also been updated and the way it's used we still have these big knobs with a rubberized finish here the dual zone is no longer standard so this is a single Zone climate control the right knob is going to change the fan speed signified right here and the left knob is going to change the temperature I do have heated seats on this off-road that's an addition for driver and passenger and I have levers instead of buttons for a couple different options so for the front defroster I can either push it up or down it does the same thing same thing for the rear defroster so front and rear defroster next to each other these are very tactile and the whole point of this climate control system is to be able to be operated with work gloves or winter gloves so no matter what I'm doing it's going to be easy to use and I don't have to take my gloves off to do the important stuff like operate the climate control and it's not in the screen which is great we have all physical buttons for the climate so the rear defroster has the side uh defrosting mirrors upgraded from the third gen you now have defrosting wires on that rear glass which is nice the sliding electronic rear glass is not standard that's an upgrade so a lot of Tacomas are going to have just a regular piece of glass in the back with no opening if there is an opening the button will be up top which we're going to go up there in a minute my different mode or air direction is right over here super simple then I have the recirculate button instead of that lighting up it's going to show me right over here and then AC and they cleverly put AC in recirc next to each other because if you're using the AC you're going to want to be using recirculate most of the time especially for the hot weather very easy to use very ergonomic for the climate control and here we go the carplay system we have a new revised version of carplay on this massive 14-in screen which I'll go over the different things here that have changed but you'll notice it right away on the left side of the screen we now have the toolbar that makes it a lot easier to get to the Toyota software so if you watched which I think you should watch my screen on the Apple carplay which applies to all newer Toyotas the video is titled the Toyota new software system I go over how to switch back and forth between the Apple system or Android and the Toyota system and the way it used to happen was on the bottom left you had to hit the menu symbol then the app symbol then find the black Toyota app and it would switch you over to the Toyota software and the reason why it was important to be able to go over to the Toyota software was because you would want to go and change settings like your time or do some of those cool customizations that are in that video which you definitely want to see cuz I'm not going to take a ton of time to go over this stuff this has already been covered I'm going to keep this very basic so moving on with our new dual toolbar system we have behind this barcode sticker which I can't remove cuz this is a sold unit is going to be the little app symbol that we're used to seeing or home screen so here's our apps which we can go through that has all the compatible apps there's the black Toyota app that we used to have to go to to get here and if I hit this again it'll make a home screen which it'll split up stuff and show our music mine's got the calendar and if you tap this it'll take over the hall screen and with the Dual toolbar system we have very easy navigation back and forth between that Toyota and Apple software if I go here to my settings this is where I can change different stuff so one of the favorites here is if we go over to display we can make this dark mode all the time people really like that but for the point of filming I'm going to make it daytime mode I'll leave it automatic this is a sold unit so I don't want to customize too much stuff I can change the brightness and the contrast like I said I'm going to keep this very concise please check out the individual video for the new software system on Toyota now if I want to get back to carplay I have this little symbol right here it'll bounce back real fast and now I don't have to hit apps and Toyota app to get to this I love it I can get right to my settings right away say I don't want the screen on anymore I can go to display and I can turn it right off tap the screen comes back on for the car I have different information here about my trip music is going to go right to my music app that I've been using phone that's going to show my favorites and my recent that's going to be the apple or the Android version of the phone there back to carplay got the navigation say I don't want to use Apple Maps I can hit the little app some and I can go over and I can get the ways going but Apple Maps has been fine for me some people like the Google Maps one more cool little thing I'll show you since we're in here if I go over to vehicle customize and I go to light settings I can change a lot of cool stuff here about the lights like the auto sensitivity the auto off timer if I go to Door control I can set the truck so that when I put it in park see how it locks if I put it oh sorry drive but if I put it in the park see how it unlocks I can change that so say I want it to stay locked the auto unlock I can actually turn that off if I wanted to and it'll stay locked down here the secret area that nobody ever goes to I can actually tone down the beeping sound when I unlock the truck with the key fob or Tone It Up in volume I can even turn off the feedback lights so sometimes when I'm really going into the woods a lot I'll turn turn this down and I'll turn off the feedback lights cuz I don't want to really want to scare away the animals or say I just want to be the gry man and be really Incognito discreet you can mess with that set it yourself auto relock timer for the truck to relock itself I mean that kind of wraps it up there's a lot of cool stuff you can do and Toyota good on you for doing this for the music a lot of people ask about that you have the am and FM you'll have the Serius radio as well I just have to um you know keep this concise time wise the maps I mean not the maps the stations are going to look like little squares so for your serious radio and your FM and AM you can mix them you just have to add the heart and it'll go to your favorites list but I saved all that for the you know the other video moving up top and wrapping it up this mirror actually is an auto diming mirror it's going to get dark on its own there's no more flip switch or buttons it's just going to become like a really dark greenish blue it's very slim and it's easy to operate and change the direction of I really like that we have our individual lights that we can push like this we have the lights control on door or off and then we don't we no longer have a guard door here for the safety connect which comes with the truck for 10 years or until the 4G network goes away just a simple push which is kind of nice because you don't have to fuss around if there actually is an emergency just don't let the kids push it and that pretty much wraps it up guys this is the full tutorial that we did together on the new 202 24 Toyota Tacoma as you can see a lot has changed I want to know down below what you guys think if this helped you I know not a lot of people own this truck yet as this is the middle of March 2024 but as people start owning this truck I hope this video finds you guys and it really helps you out and gets you sped up so you can focus on enjoying the truck instead of opening up that huge book with that said thank you so much give it a thumbs up if you liked it let me know what I missed if there's something you want to go over in more detail and as you know I will see you down in the comments below I'll see you in the next one guys peace
