you're fresh out of the motorcycle safety class and itching to get out there and ride you're freshly kitted out with gear that makes you look like you just walked off the set of sons of anarchy but now the most important question is what motorcycle do you buy first what style of bike should you consider which one is the safest first bike should you grab a thousand cc superbike because your friend justin just bought one three weeks ago and he's only laid it down twice well in this video we're going to explore all sorts of options but before we jump in i'm going to ask you to hit that like and subscribe button as i continue to create new and exciting content around my ducati royal enfield in a slew of project cars and bikes it would mean the world to me if you came along for the ride in today's video we're going to look at the value proposition of each motorcycle what exactly does that mean well it means how much fun and safety are you going to get out of the bike versus how much money you're dropping on it as a warning this video contains my thoughts that are made up of 27 years of riding experience and my deep hatred for a few motorcycle brands i'm going to be objective throughout the video and if i say something you don't agree with let me know in the comments if you cry about my selection to tell me you're going to reach out to my boss and have me fired i'll block you and probably make fun of you on my other social media platforms now what do i consider a perfect first motorcycle well it really depends on what the purpose of your motorcycle is is it for commuting pleasure riding after work or on the weekends a mix of on and off-road riding how are you going to use the motorcycle may dictate what you should consider and what you need to avoid once you have that type decided then we'll need to further refine your choices most manufacturers have multiple sizes of every type of motorcycle while you're still learning to ride a motorcycle well you will want a motorcycle that can meet your needs without being too powerful to handle you don't want something too heavy or too tall or with more power than you're capable of handling as well as a beginner so something to really accommodate your size and experience right off the bat i'd recommend upright ergonomics lower seat height less than 50 horsepower something generally lightweight some sort of riding safety technology like abs and most importantly it needs to be good on your wallet and when thinking about money it's important to look at the final cost of a new motorcycle including taxes insurance for the motorcycle and any service costs associated with it over the next few years these motorcycles are not in any specific order as there's no perfect motorcycle out there because there are so many great options with that being said let's jump into the part of the video that everyone's been waiting on the best new motorcycles for beginners the ktm duke 390 is a standard or what most would consider a naked motorcycle that contains a naked frame and minimal fairings but it's capable of riding like a sport motorcycle the wp suspension is a bit more on the firm side as it's meant to handle heavy cornering duties on weak and touring and sport writing with a simple single cylinder engine the power is manageable for beginners and capable of reaching highway speeds the corner rocket has a mid-range seat height due to firmer suspension and it won't give under the rider's weight too much it has an array of accessories for purchase for extra storage space added customization etc in addition to this the ktm duke 390 will be one of the only bikes within the price range that will come standard with a tft display and abs by going with a ktm motorcycle you get this certain level of coolness that's really hard to replicate with the other brands the 43.5 horsepower naked bike can be yours for 5 299 which is a steal for this motorcycle now the ktm rc 390 may not look much different than the duke 390 but the full faring bike and more aggressive riding position will make this a completely different experience the ktm rc 390 is a great beginner sport motorcycle complete with full fairing the rc cuts to the wind with agility and corner carving prowess lightweight with a steel trellis frame and big wide tires it's just what you what you want to need to satisfy your corner carving on a daily commute the rc 390 has a stiff suspension that's ready to handle every corner you can throw at it the ergonomics are forward leaning to keep you in the crouch to evade the wind while riding the seat height is taller than average with foot pegs higher up to allow you to lean the motorcycle in the tightest of corners so be prepared for shorter rides rather than longer hours in the seat the rc 390 comes in at about two hundred dollars more than its brother at five thousand four hundred and ninety nine dollars now the honda rebel comes in a few different engine sizes now a 300cc a 500cc and a new for 2021 1100cc version we're going to focus on the first two bikes for this video i rode the rebel 300 and 500 in 2018 when living in germany and had some thoughts on the bike first the low seat is actually really nice for short riders i have a friend who's 5'5 and she can flat foot this motorcycle on both sides which is obviously a huge booster for confidence while the 286 cc single cylinder motor may be on the smaller side of things it's surprisingly more potent than many would expect while top speed for the bike is limited to 92 miles an hour the rebel 300 will be more than happy to cruise on the highway at around 65 miles an hour and while the cruiser market is not really my cup of tea the rebel gets respect from other riders it's hard to argue that it's not one of the coolest looking bikes on this list [Music] for the second part of the honda rebel family we've got their ribo 500 it has the same dimensions as a smaller variant but with a 471 cc power plant pushing 45.9 horsepower instead of the 286 cc version producing only 27.4 horsepower this allows for a higher top speed and a bit more acceleration but the new engine comes with a heavier weight of 408 pounds if you're a bigger person try the rebel 500 as that little extra weight of the bike between your legs helps it feel a little more planted on the road the honda grom may seem like a mini bike but it has more sport features than you'd expect the suspension and seat height are more like a sport bike and its affordability makes it a good starter motorcycle the grom doesn't have enough muscle to do more than a commute on city streets but it will get you there in style with a shiny blue red green or the orange finish the grom makes a good starter motorcycle as it's more than capable of commuting and having some fun on the weekends and the taller seats height will accommodate most new riders the grom won't handle highway speeds well so be wary of trying to outpace heavy high-speed traffic otherwise it's a fun sporty ride that's great for new riders seeking a little fun and excitement and honestly i was hesitant to put the grom on the list because i think the smaller wheels and the steep rake make it a little less forgiving of a ride for someone's first bike starting out but if i did not include this cult classic bike on the list people would complain so here we go the bmw g310r bmw launched the g310r a few years ago to global applause the lightweight nimble handling attractively styled g310r will naturally appeal to novice riders especially when you realize you can get into a bmw motorcycle for about 5 grand the 313cc engine in the g310r pumps out about 35 horsepower at 9 500 rpm giving the 350 pound bike the ability to really scoot and the fit and finish of the bmw is on par with the ktm duke 390. especially when you see that beautiful tft display and those 41 millimeter inverted forks the yamaha sr400 features retro styling reminiscent of motorcycles back in 1970s with a slim narrow frame and air cooled engine add a fuel-injected thumper engine that can get an estimated 66 miles per gallon and you have a recipe for a fun ride that will go all day the 5-speed transmission is suitable for city and highway riding but without a fairing you're going to feel all the wind and weather during every ride and even without a fairing for wind protection the sr400 is still a great motorcycle for a first time rider the seat height is set at just under 31 inches and will be comfortable for most riders on a plush wide seat one unique feature that oozes old school cool is the unique kickstarter true to the history books that's right there's no push button start here if you don't have a strong right leg you might acquire one after kickstarting the sr400 before every ride [Music] i might be a bit biased when it comes to the continental gt650 because it's a bike that i actually own as the motorcycle world continues to push out more bikes that look like a transformer than an actual motorcycle i appreciate royal infield's dedication to keeping a classic styled cafe racer in the mix between the clip on bars double cradle frame twin shocks and an air liquid cooled parallel to an engine this bike looks cool and can perform just as well if you want to learn more about this bike i have a youtube channel literally full of it find that royal infield playlist and start watching the yamaha yzf r3 when it debuted four years ago the yzf r3 quickly became a very popular model in the usa's catalog and why not a smooth quick revving 321cc parallel twin cylinder engine supported by very capable chassis and wrapped in a super sport style bodywork while selling for under 5 grand was sure a recipe for swift sales off the showroom floor the r3 soon stood atop yamaha usa's motorcycle sales charts and has been there in the company's bestsellers list ever since the r3 shows a lot of novice friendly characters that help make it such a sales success with a low effort clutch and a positive shifting transmission working with the engine's smooth throttle response making the power very easy to control the low 30.7 inch seat height narrow midsection and lightweight ensures that yamaha is intimidating at lower speeds and the brakes are responsive without being too progressive in a way that could feel overwhelm less experienced hands the kawasaki ninja 400 is a street born track inspired lightweight sport bike unlike other lightweight sportbike competitors the ninja 400 has more power with longer displacement engine fresh angular bodywork and led headlights it also has a relaxed riding position which accommodates a wide range of rider sizes and riding situations unlike some competitors with more extreme ergonomics the ninja's 400 elevated hand grip position and slightly forward foot pegs put the rider in a comfortable position while the slim seat design helps improve the ability to reach the ground the ninja's 399 cc twin cylinder engine pushes out 45 horsepower while also delivering 28 pound-feet of torque the yamaha mt03 it was only a matter of time when yamaha would bring the mt03 stateside and now that it's here it's hard not to put this bike on the top of the list when a beginner-friendly bike has a price tag of under five thousand dollars promises sporty fun it's got the same engine as the 321cc parallel twin in the r3 and is wrapped in a clean simple yet sinister naked bike form yamaha knew it had a winner on its hands the 37 millimeter kyb inverted forks really helped the bike stand out from the rest of the list but unfortunately so does the led headlamp that turns this naked bike into something that you either love or you hate for the final few motorcycles on my list let's jump into the world of dual sport bikes the kawasaki versus 300 abs is a taller adventure model that has a little of everything to go almost everywhere you're ready to ride it features a medium windscreen on the front that will block a lot of wind and weather as you ride on your commute or on your way to your favorite riding trail the two cylinder has plenty of torque to keep you moving forward at low speeds while out playing in the dirt you can keep up with highway speeds if you travel on a long weekend ride the versus x300 makes a good beginner motorcycle for those that can ride a taller bike as the seat height is on the upper end of things it comes standard with dual hard saddle bags to hold plenty of gear which is a really nice feature on this list the suspension is supple to handle on and off-road riding and keep you comfortable in any scenario with the fairing and windscreen it will help you on the oncoming win and allow you to ride for miles and miles as you gain more riding experience in 2021 honda took the crf 250l and crf250l rally and gave them a slew of upgrades with the most noticeable being a bit more power through the use of a larger stroke the peak power output is now 27 horsepower at 8 500 rpms and 20 foot-pounds of torque at 6500 rpm while this is the tallest bike on the list it's also one the one bike solution for almost everyone you want to cruise some canyons done you want to cruise some dirt roads and moab done it's a wonderful first motorcycle and if you're on the taller side of things with a desire for adventure this is where you look the rally variant of the crf300l is a bit more adventure focused with longer front and rear travel compared to the crf300l the longer travel equates to a seat height that is 0.4 inches higher the 2021 crf300l has a smaller fuel tank while the rally gets more fuel capacity the crf300l is down to 2.1 gallons and the rally now carries 3.4 gallons an increase of almost 3 quarts one of my favorite motorcycles on the list is the 2021 royal enfield himalayan simply because it's one of the coolest looking bikes on the market the utilitarian design showcases exactly what you'd expect from this dual sport motorcycle a no-nonsense ride the single cylinder 411 cc engine pushes out 24.3 horsepower which is more than enough to get you and your gear up to speed royal infield actually let me borrow this bike back in september so if you want to see a longer review check it out on my channel in 2021 row infield made a slew of tweaks to the solid platform like abs stronger reel brake and a redesigned kickstand small upgrades to make the bike even better i'm sure this video is going to create a lot of chatter as these list type videos usually do so let me know your thoughts on the 15 motorcycles that i chose as the best motorcycles for beginners if i'm missing something or you're adamant that a bike should be on the list let me know in the comments below and that's all i've got for you today everyone if you've got any additional
