what's up guys it's dan the bug man if you're not familiar with my channel my name is daniel i post about all kinds of things like this about pest control any kinds of bugs i see i'm in the pest control industry i work in my company's office in the field so i got all kinds of cool insights to show you in today's video i'm going to be showing you exactly what the difference is between a liquid termite treatment versus a bait station termite treatment and this is pretty intimidating to most people when they first hear about oh like we're doing a liquid chemical treatment versus we're doing bait stations they sound totally different but i'm going to explain each of them to you very simply this video will help you understand what treatment is best for your house so with me today i have uh two main characters one is this beautiful bottle of termidor which would be used for a liquid termite treatment a bottle this size would be about what an average size house would need to be treated with on the other hand i had these two termite bait stations now these are two different brands this is a centracon bait station fresh out of the ground as is this one this is an advanced termite bait station they are simply as i said two different brands they look a little different but they do the same thing so i'm going to explain to you what these are and how they work what this liquid terminador does and how it works and how they're different how they're similar which one is better or worse in my opinion and what you should do for your house and based on what you've seen in this video you can make a accurate decision on what treatment is best for your house and i will just give you a hint it is likely the case that both termite bait stations and liquid chemical treatments are both very good options when they are both professionally done they have very very good results okay so what we'll do is a little compare and contrast first i will tell you the advantages of a liquid treatment and then i will tell you the advantages of a bait station treatment and then i will tell you how they behave similarly and how they both kill termites very well okay so quickly this is termidor one of the og liquid chemical treatments we use this one at our company all the time there's also another one i'll recommend called taurus this isn't a paid promotion these are just ones that work very well but anyways a liquid chemical treatment is when you take this liquid chemical you mix it with water you then apply it into the soil around the perimeter of your home and if you have a crawl space we would treat inside the crawl space as well so when this liquid chemical gets into the ground when the water dissipates away these particles tiny particles of this chemical attach themselves to the soil and when the termites crawl through the soil they pick up this chemical on their skin and they transfer it back to the colony and it kills off the termite colony here's what you need to know about a liquid chemical treatment a liquid chemical treatment for the most part is a one and done kind of deal okay something like this if you apply it well it's going to last you at least 10 years now that all depends on the moisture level if you've got a lot of water issues that may make it go away faster but at least 10 years i know termidor probably has a lot of studies on how long it lasts i can't tell you those off the top of my head our companies we warranty these for your lifetime as long as you get inspected every year we just keep on warranting it so if that tells you something it's a one and done kind of thing lasts a very long time the liquid chemical treatments compared to the bait station this is a more traditional treatment this liquid chemicals now they've changed a lot over the years but this was the first thing that people started to do to really treat termites effectively they would pour treatments like this into the soil around the perimeter of their home whenever the termites made their tunnels in the ground to try to get up to the wood in your house these chemicals would kill them so they're traditional they've been around a long time and they work very well and in my opinion a liquid chemical treatment is more time and cost effective than a bait station and now we'll talk about the time effectiveness of a bait station in just a minute so all in all a liquid chemical treatment it's a one and done type treatment it lasts a very long time and in my opinion it's a it's a time saver and it's cheaper in the long run now you're going to spend more time treating a house for termites than you will installing this into the soil on the first day but in the long run this will save you more time and i'll explain to you why that is in just a second when we talk about the bait station if you guys have any questions about a liquid chemical treatment just let me know i've done hundreds of them in my career so just shoot me a comment like this video and now we're gonna talk about bait stations okay these are termite bait stations quickly i'm going to describe how they work so these stations are in the soil picture the soil level right here and this is all ground and this is the air when these are installed they are put into the soil you notice how both of these have little ridges where it's big enough for termites to crawl through them traditionally there is a piece of some sort of wooden cellulose material that termites will eat this one has rotted away but inside of here for example this would be the poison and this would be the wood that the termites eat on whenever these are checked and someone sees oh there's termites in here they would put this poison in with it and the termites would continue feeding and get the poison they would take it back to their colony same thing with this if you pull it out you've got a long piece of wooden material now this is the bait that's why it's called a bait station okay the termites crawl through these holes and they come in and they feed on this piece of wood some of them are pre-baited which means this piece of wood does have poison on it some of them are not pre-baited which means it's just a piece of wood until you put the poison oh it's getting my desk filthy when an installation is done for termite bait stations these are put about every 10 to 15 feet around the perimeter of the house okay if you just had one or two around your house that's not going to do a good job the way these work is like i said it's a bait so once a termite colony finds this and that's the key they have to find it but that's why you install so many because a termite colony you can think of them as similar to an ant colony they're always foraging around looking for food so termites eat wood for food once they find the food which they will they will absolutely find it if they are installed at a correct distance around the perimeter of the home that's why these work um some people have questions about which one works better or worse and i'll get to that in a second but they both work very well if they're done correctly once the termite colony finds the bait station they feed on it it's the same with the liquid they take the chemical back to the colony and it kills off the colony okay it's not a repellent the termites continue feeding on it and they get the bait and they take it back so this these are just two different brands but they work the same way so here are the advantages of a termite bait system instead of a liquid treatment the termite bait system it's a quick install it'll only take the company or yourself an hour or less to install these you just literally just shove them into the ground okay you might need to dig a hole to place them in there first but you just put them in the ground and like i said some of them have bait with them poison in there with them and some of them you have to put in afterwards but they're quicker to install which is great and for the most part i would consider a bait station the eco-friendly product only a little bit of chemical in there there's only a couple of spots where they're placed in the ground and they're not a liquid so there's no chance of runoff and there really shouldn't be a chance of runoff if a liquid treatment is done correctly this is what i consider the environmentally friendly solution this is also considered newer technology than the liquid treatments these they've been around maybe 10 or 15 years they do work super well but sometimes more traditional people when they see something like this they they don't understand like that's not gonna work you know a lot of customers ask us oh spray this spray that um and they don't understand how baits work but there are so many products i would say almost 50 of the products i use are baits as opposed to sprays it's just a bait it's a new system it's easy to install it's cheaper up front it's environmentally friendly it's newer technology one of the downsides is you're going to have to check this at least once a year whenever you treat your home for termites whether it's bait stations or liquid treatments you need to inspect your home for termites once a year but if you have these bait stations you also need to put new chemicals and baits in these stations at least once a year to make sure that they're still good on one hand this stuff lasts a long time and it's still active on the other hand this doesn't last but about a year before you need to replace the bait and it's not a big deal you just you know you just twist it open and put some more bait in there it'll come with a new new cartridge this one says for monitoring only contains no active ingredients so this is not actually bait this it would just be the wood that the termites would feed on so if you have any questions about bait stations our company does not use them but i know a lot about them they've been around for you know 10 or 15 years they work very very well if they're done correctly so let me know if you have any questions about bait stations and finally i'm going to tell you how these two products are in fact very similar and they seem quite different but they are very similar first of all they work they work very well if they're done correctly all of these pesticides and you've seen cleaning products herbicides they all come with labels for example this termidor has a label right here it's maybe a hundred pages as long as you read the label and apply it correctly then both the liquid and the bait stations work very very well i would say the liquid treatment in my opinion works just a tiny bit better it's a tiny bit more to me more thorough there is always a very small chance that a termite colony could pass up a bait station the second way they are both similar and i mentioned this just a second ago is that when you treat your house with either liquid or bait you still need to inspect your house once a year and that involves taking a flashlight looking at the wooden structure of your house either from the inside or from the crawl space you're looking for any signs of termites where they have somehow passed up the treatment it's hopefully won't happen for a long time but you still need to inspect your house once a year that's what we do at our company we do an annual termite inspection and with that inspection it renews the warranty on your house the third way that these two products are similar is they both kill the colony with a colony killing active ingredient so that means they're not repellents when a termite comes in contact with this it doesn't say oh this isn't good let's go the other way it actually doesn't even notice it's come in contact with the chemical it picks it up these all three have different active ingredients actually they are all colony killing treatments and the fourth way that these products are similar is that excessive moisture around your house will decrease the effectiveness of these treatments so if you've got one of these bait stations sitting in the ground and you got a bunch of water in the area of your yard termites can't swim they have to make a tunnel and solid ground to get to these if your yard is just soaked with water then the termites will not be able to get to the stations and won't be able to feed on the bait and they'll termite colonies can go very deep into the soil they might go just right under the water but sitting in your yard and they would completely pass up these stations and on the other hand moisture also affects these liquid treatments for example if you treat your house for termites and then you have excessive moisture in your crawl space or you have gutters that don't properly drain the water away from your house as the water seeps through the soil either into the ground water or into the streams it will inevitably take this product with it now this is very slow and it happens over a long period of time but it does reduce the effectiveness of this treatment and you're going to spend a lot of time and money treating your house for termites with the liquid treatment make sure the water doesn't just wash away this product both of these companies and products have worked very hard to try to make their products effective even with moisture there's inevitably there's only so much they can do to keep the water from affecting the treatment so i just addressed how a liquid treatment works and the pros of those i just addressed how a bait station works in the pros of a bait station i just compared them and told you how they're similar if you guys have any questions about how those treatments work please let me know just shoot me a comment or an email and i will reply i will give you my opinion there's a lot of factors that go into choosing what's best for your house if you have a termite problem and you're wanting to know which one to do i would almost completely disregard if they have liquid or bait stations offering you i would go with the company that has given you the most respect been the most straightforward with you has the best customer service they're inevitably going to give you a better service in the long run it's also important to consider the price that they've given you and it's also important to consider the warranty that they're giving you with these treatments if you're getting your house treated by a licensed pest control company they should give you a warranty that says exactly what they will do if termites ever come back to your house now you need to read through these warranties very carefully and another thing to think about along with the price is the annual inspection fee there's always going to be a once a year fee to keep your house under warranty you need to consider how that much is also my company charges about 100 to 150 a year for an annual termite warranty and i know they get up to three to four hundred a year in some areas um it is pretty important to try to keep the annual inspection fee low so thank you guys so much for watching as always you know just let me know if you have any questions termites can be pretty daunting they do eat wood if you have any questions about how termites work i wanted to keep this video you know just about the treatment options not about like termite biology it is very important to know how termites behave thank you guys so much for watching if you made it this far um please give this video a thumbs up i really appreciate it it helps me out a lot share this video with your friends if they're having trouble you know trying to figure out what company to go with for a bait station versus a liquid chemical treatment show them this video and they can make an accurate decision on what's best for their house but like i said you can't go wrong they both work very well so i hope termites do not eat your house to the ground it does happen you need to make sure you have some kind of termite protection even if you don't know you have termites there's always a possibility that you do even if there is a very thorough inspection done there's always a possibility that termites are inside the wood that is not visible termites are a big deal they cause the most damage out of any pest in the country billions and billions of dollars worth of damage i just went to a house the other day all of the support wood and this whole half of the house was just covered with termite damage and they had to just rip it all out
