and I think we are live um yeah I've turned the microphone on hello everybody I will move this out of the way because you know what video this is this is tanki drill hello everybody for tuning in my name is Paul Grogan from gaming rules and today I'm gonna be going through literally this start here guide if you're watching this live and there's a lot of you in the chat please let me know in the chat if you can hear me you can see me okay I've had various audio issues unusually enough for the last couple of days so yeah just let me know in the chat if everything is working fine so dainty grill awaken realm sent me an early copy of it because sometime around December January I'm gonna be doing the official how to play videos for the game which means I need to play the game a lot to become very familiar with it in order to basically create a proper instructional video but before then I am going to be doing a little bit of coverage on the game so this particular video is not sponsored or or commissioned in any way which is why I haven't bothered having a shave audio and images are working fine thank you very much so yet the game comes with obviously rulebook and for a lot of people rule books are a barrier to entry because you have to sit there you have to learn the rulebook if you're the one teaching the game to your friends you have the pressure of having to get it right so you're quite often set the game up yourself have to play through it yourself and then teach everybody else what they've done is they have given you a quick is it called its start here right it's called the open and play guide and this is literally four pages and it is a scripted step-by-step tutorial and you can actually play through this without looking at the main rule book which is exactly what me and my partner Vicki did this morning and what I'm going to be doing today is I'm going to be going through this so a number of people said that they're not going to tune in and watch this video because it contains spoilers so I'll tell you what it is going to contain spoilers of this tutorial and that's it they've done a really good job of writing this tutorial so it doesn't spoil anything at all from the main story so if you want to play through the tutorial yourself then fine thank you very much for tuning in for the first part of the video but I don't really class this as a spoiler it is a very scripted step-by-step you will do this and there we go so yeah few people have said that the audio and video is fine which is excellent I am now going to switch over so you don't have to look at me all day I'm gonna switch over to the overhead camera and I have got this set up as as so so I've got this all set up ready for a solo game the manual actually does take you through exactly step by step what you need to do to set this up I have already done that for you ahead of time but I am going to explain what we've actually got here so this is our character card only what you do the start of the game is and for the children you you play as B or and it tells you exactly what attributes you have so B or he's very aggressive he's got a bit of courage he's also quite practical he's not so much on the whole diplomacy side of things he hasn't got any empathy whatsoever he's got a little bit of caution and he's got no spirituality now as you can see on this card here it tells you exactly where those cubes could go and that's for this character and there's multiple characters with the game which each have a different set up we also start with three photos I'm cheating here three food and one wealth and these red cubes are generic markers these represent one there are purple markers that represent five well once we've done the setup there is a little bit of backstory and then what you do is you flip it over and there we go and now you have the abilities that this character has now on this track here we have three things we have energy which is used to move around the board explore and perform actions you have your health which is your you know physical health and that will get that will move you get damaged by monsters and you have your terror which basically shows how scared you are and that will go up during the game each of these spaces each of these tracks has a space with two little red arrows on and that shows you where the mark have started again this is different for every character there's also this which is quite cool it's a little piece of plastic and the reason and this starts off on 9 for B or and the reason why this isn't just the red cube as well is this has basically a limit to the other cubes so if my if my health goes down to 6 my energy cannot go above 6 okay so they they prefer that that performs a limit to the energy and if your terror ever goes above the mark which you can then you start to panic so yeah so that's that's how that works they are all set there right the next thing is the tutorial and it actually comes with a deck so the game's got loads of cards in there one of the packs of cards is like an open me first pack and it contains everything you need for for this setup well not the big cards but it contains all of the other ones and it contains 15 combat cards which I have here there's a little bit of shine from my sleeves and 15 diplomacy cards do not shuffle these cards I did okay because I have a natural overriding urge to shuffle cards especially once ups leave them thankfully the cards are all numbered so you can put them back in number order but yes take these cards out of the packs you have your combat cards to the left and you have your diplomacy cards to the right now when you're playing the full game these decks will be a lot more cards than you see here but for this particular setup I'm basically using the 15 fixed cards that it tells me to use for the tutorial now the room that I mean I have to say is a little bit warm today although I am wearing my jumper so that's probably why I have the window open and the church bells are going so if it's a problem if the church bells are a little bit too much you might find it quite a themed attic but if it's too much let me know and I can get up and close the window somehow I don't know how I'm gonna do that with this microphone attached but anyway umm that's that we then have these encounter cards now these are slightly at the edge of camera but again when you're playing the full game you will have a whole green deck event counter cards which is things that you'll find in the wild and if you manage to overcome this particular encounter they will normally yield food everything that I'm tain here by the way is all in here okay I haven't even looked at the main rule book yet in fact I don't have the main rule books downstairs so everything that I'm saying here is purely from here I didn't know anything about the game until I started reading through this the grey ones are kind of rural encounters with like people and things like that they will generally gain you wealth or items the purple card is weird stuff I think it's spiritual things what is it saying here it says the purple cards are supernatural threats that's it discover them for yourself we're not going to spoil that and the blue ones are non-combat challenges that might happen when you visit settlements right what else have we got we've got the map so the particular setup for this scenario uses location 101 which is a cool enact if that's how you pronounce it I'm not sure and that's where we are and there is a man here at Kuhn Act I've got the Sun drop miniatures and you might be able to see this but there is a coin in there on number 8 so that goes there on number 8 and then you set the cards up like this basically each card has got a number and an arrow on the side and it tells you which card to put next and I think that's I think that's it for the setup oh there's these turn order cards now well not tow Nautica's reference cards right I've got three reference cards and you can see how much text is on them and they're double-sided which can be quite scary for people when they look at these and go oh my god is this the reference card but actually having looked at these they're very detailed and I think they're really well done there's a lot of information on there but it's pretty much most of the information that you will need during the game grant it hello great thank you for joining in so yeah I think we're I think we're pretty much ready to start and I'm now gonna read the little bit of flavor at the start they still call this place a farm hold even though barren fields provide little food and crumbling walls offer no protection the last relic of the glory days of Connacht its is its men here always adorned with red ribbons lit by candles and with a daily offering at its gnarled feet as long as the men here repels the weirdness the town's folk are ready to enjoy anything but last night the weirdness came closer than ever before a man was lost following the call of his future self a house on the outskirts of town has turned inside out its furniture grown into a bloated outer shell like barnacles on the side of a boat for many hours the air tasted of metal and sour milk now people say your guardian men here is failing like many others all over the land for you the night was even worse the festering wound in your side throbbed as if something tried to tear itself free and join the rolling clouds of word from outside of town in the morning a boy comes running to your Shack master earthier needs to see you move you big goof you chase the brat away with a well-aimed throw of a boot and immediately start to regret it as the boot lands and a deep puddle outside your door so we are playing today as Bo this is the character for the tutorial the or easel is the local Smith known for his short temper he does his best to conceal a festering unhealable wound in his side received under mysterious circumstances right there we go so somebody had the TV oh so he's getting quite dark but that was your TV hello Suzy hello Sebastian um right so yes we have the starting locations we've got the setup and that is that is it I mean that's two pages of the thing already so what we do is the game is played in a series of rounds each round is one day and it is telling us that we are now going to play through the first day so this isn't it it's now dawn and we are ready to start our journey so the order of day lists all of the things that you do at the start of the day if the men here had expired so if the counter had been reduced down to zero the men here would now disappear then what we do is we reduce all time and men here dials we have no time tokens on the border but we do have a men here so it goes down from 8 to 7 when it goes down to zero it will disappear at the start of the next day and the men here is basically it's a limit to where you can explore you can only go to locations that are adjacent to and that includes diagonals and so if the men here goes that really restricts where you can move to the next thing we do is reveal the next event card so if you were playing a full game the next thing you would do is you would reveal the next event card from the deck what we're gonna do today is we're gonna read this next part which basically says instead of revealing the event read this instead so we are we have a quest which is to speak with qu an actor blacksmith Afiya and there is a hint to it to meet her fear you have to explore the kun act farm hold now a quick note about this farm hold and I'm gonna remove these for now there are certain icons on it and it tells us what these icons are in the book this means that there is a men here at the location this means that this is a settlement and certain abilities apply when you're in a settlement and certain abilities will apply when you're not in a settlement and this means that if we end our day here we will have a dream so that's what those are there is also an action that's available on this card but we will get to that when it tells us to write so one of the actions that you can do in the game is to explore and if you look at this action overview here you will see exploring costs 1 energy and that is what it's telling us to do it's telling us to explore so we spend 1 energy by moving this cube down to here and normally when you would explore you would now flip the card over but as I mentioned what awakened realms I've done is that they've designed this tutorial to avoid any spoilers of the main story so we're not gonna flip the card over instead it actually comes with at the back of the big the exploration journal at the very back of that is a special tutorial only exploration journal and what we're gonna do now is we're going to read out what happens when we explore this location write a deep feeling of pervades conact from dilapidated farms to the sunken eyes of those who remain in town the men here in the market is nearly extinguished still this place is the only home you ever knew so now we're ready to choose what to do in this location our paraphrase this but basically it's given us two options but option two we can only choose option two if we have both parts of the surprising errand status we don't have that yet so we have to choose option one which is speak with your master earthier is up earlier than usual as you enter he hides a large pack behind a curtain and turns to you with a wide smile you're here lad good hope you're ready to stretch your legs a bit I hear a star fell near whitening and a local Tanner picked it up it's a solid ingot as large as your dingy head I'd rather not have it fall into the hands of some of the Smith you not falling stars are a bad omen for most simple folk but they always Excitebike Smith's and armors after all the legendary Excalibur was forged from one of these cold shards of distance guys soon you depart walking down the sloping fields towards the mist-covered forest with some rations your trusty hammer and a purse of silver that earthier gave you before stepping into the shadow of the trees you take one last look back at the ancient statue towering above shacks and houses how much longer can this tired old thing protect protect kun act so we gain part one of the surprising errand status now when you're playing the full campaign there is a big safe sheet where you mark off all of the different statuses you've got for this scenario the back of this quick play guide has a very small tutorial safe sheet and it basically has surprised errand one too so what we should do and I'm not actually going to mark it but I should now mark number one to say we have done the first parts we've got that status that will have an impact later on we also gain one wealth so I'm going to take another red cube and put it there on the wealth and yeah there we go so exploration is over we should now go to part three first now I'm reading about this so I am probably going to miss some stuff in the chat apologies for that hopefully nothing important I will keep trying to glance over right so part three travel so traveling is another of the actions that you can do it cost one energy and you move to any revealed location that is connected to your current location so it's saying we should study these four locations for example the child Conclave he telling us that this has an ability when we move on to this location to draw a gray encounter card but it's suggesting that to the north is Hunter's Grove where we all can gather some food which looks better so we're going to spend one energy again it's scripted tutorial it's telling us where to go on what to do and we are going to move our figure to the Haunted Grove there we go you can't move diagonally you can only move orthogonal II basically it's going to be connected directly now because we've gone to this location here and remember the men here affects all of the eight cards around it so therefore we are allowed to view these two locations and these two also come with the particular setup so we have 106 which is goes here which is the four dweller mounds and 107 which is whitening and that's where we need to be going so that goes there now you'll notice here at the top it does say 1 1 3 is that way but we don't put that card on because it's two spaces away from the men here so this is what I was saying about the limited range of exploration we do not put card 1 1 3 there right now we've got our first location action and you'll notice that the hunters Grove has an action that you can do which is spend 2 energy to gather food we will gain 2 food and we will draw an encounter a green encounter and again the tutorial is telling us that's what we need to do so people are saying Xerox the page or use a graphite pen yet to be honest for this tutorial you don't really need to you just need to No I've got number one for the main game the game comes with a huge pad of sheet where you can yeah you'll have plenty so yes are we gonna spend too energy there we go and we gain to food so I'm going to put two more little cubes in here remember there are purple cubes included with the game as well these counters five so you might think oh how is he going to get more than five in there well use the purple cubes and then we draw a green encounter card now for the tutorial the grid the encountered X consists of one card each so I'm going to draw the green encounter and I'm going to put it here and it tells us to read this card carefully because this is a tutorial we actually have lots of information all over the card and what I'm gonna do just for now I I'm gonna zoom in there you go so this is the encounter that we have drawn it is a mist shaped vermin the number here is the encounter value which is how many red cubes you need to win the combat pool is on the left hand side of the card and you caught every red cube that you gain you go you put here and once you've got four here you've defeated it the combat table is down at the bottom and that determines what the enemy does when it attacks you and over on the right hand side we have the attribute keys which will make sense once we start going through how combat works we also have down here loot 1 food so if we kill it we get one food right so what I'm gonna do is I'm going to put the card now here and I'm gonna keep it zoomed in a little bit just for this part of the demo because we need to be seeing these cards if I'm gonna keep that one there so yes again the tutorial will take you step-by-step through what happens here but I am going to go through it step-by-step myself when you're going to combat you've got your combat deck and remember you shouldn't shuffle this deck for this tutorial and you draw three cards so you draw three cards from the combat deck at the start of combat there's also this thing called check enemy traits we don't need to do that for the toriel so they are my three cars that I've drawn from the combat deck in fact I'm gonna have to zoom out a little bit because I'm gonna put the cards that I've got in my hand and I'm gonna put them here so that you can see them so we have no tell you what I've accidentally shuffled it see what I mean every time you give me a deck of sleeve cards I just can't help but feel it right here we go that's better put the cards back so there we go we have cards one two and three a tank reposition and ignore pain they are the cards that we have in our hand and here's what happens in the in the combat turn we basically now get a chance to play cards now the first card that you play is effectively a free card there is going to be a cost to play any additional cards in each round so each round of combat or so each turn of combat yes I think it's played in turns so each turn of combat you get to play one card for free and then there is going to be a cost on other cards so what the what the tutorial is telling us to do is to play the attack card I think that's what it's telling us to do yeah we're gonna play the attack card so the first card that you play you put it directly on site directly by the side of the encounter card and then what we're going to do is we're going to look at these these are called keys and for each key which has been joined together we check the attribute on the left hand side to see if we have that attribute and if we do we get the ability that is shown on the right hand side so in this particular case we've played attack the top key requires one aggression well we have two aggression our character because he's very angry all the time so we get a red cube which basically means I put a red cube there in the combat pool I'm gonna need some more there we go the one at the bottom this is the freaky these always connects you do not need any that that may be always happens no matter what your attributes are and this one is get a red cube there we go so we've done that now the card also has an ability which is printed on here so that icon the little school means when the enemy comes to attack me it's gonna deal one extra damage which is not ideal but that's what's going to happen and then this is what's called a delayed effect so we take a time counter and we put it on there to remind us that at the start of the next round at the start of the next round yeah things at the start the next round that delayed ability so the next turn start the next turn that delayed ability is going to kick off and we get one we get to draw one card okay so that's the first card we've played and I mentioned the first one each turn of combat is free the church bells have you stopped we may play a second card if we want to and then a third and then a fourth however we only have two cards in hand but in order to play another one you need to activate at least one of the keys that has this yellow card with the lightning bolts in belong okay if you don't do that you can't play any extra card you just limited the one the one per turn so what it's doing is it's telling us to play ignore pain and I will show you why so first thing that happens whenever you play you're a new card any tokens that were on a previous card they get they go because the new card completely overlaps the old card like that so that's not ideal because this was gonna beat this was gonna draw as a card but I'm following the tutorial I'm doing what it tells me to do and the only reason I'm able to play this card here as my second card this turn is because if you look at this little icon here which is courage I think it's a hedgehog yeah then that has that yellowy browny card with the lightning bolt symbol of so because I have that attribute I have courage there's the lighting bolt symbol which means I am allowed to play this as my second card remember we're still in the first turn of combat so there we go the blue box here means that if I had magic I could spend one of them to activate that key there I don't and the bottom bit the freaky always happens and that single means I get to draw a card hopefully this is card number four yes it is there we go so that is now the second turn of combat and there's new ability on here so when the enemy hears me I actually get a red cube for every point of damage that I've received so it's now telling us in the tutorial not to play a third card in fact I can't play a third card anyway you know I could I could if I wanted to I could play a third card because that would go there and that activates that and that's a free one but it does nothing so yeah he's telling us not to and I'm not going to I'm going to end that combat turn right here so now what we do is we go to the combat overview we've done all of our stuff oh the church bells are just starting you play any number of combat card yeah after that performed the victory check the victory check is fought do we have four come back you and therefore cubes in the combat pill we do not so what happens now is the enemy attacks and we look at this card and it says here that there are zero to two combat cubes in the combat pill so we take a damage so we move the health marker down by one and the ability of this is gain a red cube for every point of damage received I just taken a point of damage so because I can ignore the pain I basically get a combat cube there we go and shake readiness there are other things that you're supposed to do at the start of combat if you're playing it multiplayer we don't need to do that because it's just it's just a solo game right at the end of the turn you have to discard down to three cards that's fine we've only got two in hand and then every player will get to draw a new card right so you want to get to draw one so if you'd spend all of your cards then you're only going to get to draw one card we are now in the second round of combat and remember what I said earlier the first card you play in each turn I said second round of combat I'm in the second turn of combat the first car do you play in each turn is free you don't have to match any of the icons so all of that stuff about all I needed to play thing with the lightning bolt on not for the first card and it is suggesting that I could finish the battle quickly by playing powerful blow so let's just go through what would happen if I did well I have aggression in fact that icon there means I need to aggression which I have that would be two cubes fine and here I would get a free cube so I would get six cubes which is total overkill the downside of this card is that you lose one energy when you played it because you are inflicting a powerful blow takes a lot of energy so it's suggesting we don't do that and instead we use the throw card now whatever done wrong here oh I'll tell you what I've never done something wrong because I should have card number six oh no it's suggesting we play battlecry first apologies here we go let's start with battlecry so we play battlecry if we had a magic we could get an extra red cube we don't so now I'm gonna draw a card this is card number six no should be card number six condom six which is thrown okay don't shuffle the cards when he tells you not to if you've got the same problem as me thankfully the numbers on the bottom of the cars will will help you get it get them back in order anyway he's now telling us to play the throat so this is the second turn of combat and this is our second card which means we need to match a lightning bolt symbol and we're going to do that so we can because we have the aggression attribute that matches the likely bolt which means we are allowed to play this card and at the bottom one times red cube so we get a red cube now there is also an ability on this card which isn't a great ability we flip over one weapon or shield that you're using or actually it is a good one we could flip over one weapon or shield that we are carrying to basically get to damage we throw something at it and bash it on the head but we don't need to because we are now doing the victory check there are four cubes in the combat pool which means we've defeated the mr. shaped vermin and we get the loot which is shown down at the bottom which is one food so that goes on there at the end of combat you shuffle you combat day yes forget to shore for me cards I'm just gonna I'm just gonna enjoy shuffling for a minute here we go nothing better than shuffling sleeved with new sleeves right we're done now it doesn't actually say in the book if you want to you can just play that encounter again with random cards and this will help you learn the game once that once we've done this tutorial stick around for five minutes I'm actually going to go through the combat again using random cards and try and work out what I would do just to help you learn that part of it right so we've done the second combat turn where are we now we are now ending the day youri's wounded well only a little bit oh it was just enable that should go on the bottom of the encounter deck now if you look at the energy track although we have two energy left the bottom two spaces are red which means that I will be exhausted and it's suggesting we don't want to do that so we're going to choose the pass action let's go back to our action thing here pass because no energy you end your day so that's what we're going to do because it tells us so so what happens when you pass is you just you you rest in you eat so you discard one food and you get back one health so that goes up and the terror goes down by one now our Terror is at zero so we don't need to do that if we had any experience points we'd now be able to upgrade some of our cards which we don't but we are in a location with a dream icon which means we would now open the exploration journal and we would read the dream because if there's a tutorial we have a special dream just for us and this is Hunter's Grove so Hunter's Grove which is where we are now it didn't tell us here to read this bit and I think we probably should have done because this is an introduction to the location where we are as you walk into the shadow of the hunter's Grove your heart beats faster and your wound burns you died not far from here two weeks ago though it took some time for you to realize that you try hard not to think about those events humming your favorite tune to chase away the memories so yeah I think we probably should have read that when we moved on to the location although it didn't tell us to do that anyway we're now on the dream sequence so when you play the game properly there will be a dream sequence location if your terror is in the red bit then you will have a nightmare rather than a dream which is quite cool so we're having a dream I think read the dream tutorial dreams right okay so dream oh we're supposed to reset our energy that was it you reset your energy you healed one reset your energy there you go right dream in your dream you return to the dark ravine deep in the grove like many others you search for a little girl who went missing in Ko night instead you find a mass of what looked like tangled black snakes crawling across the moss covered stone the mass rises on countless black legs and rushes at you for a split second you see the horrific truth what charges is a malformed overgrown beating heart on countless legs of blackened veins and arteries it opens its circular more full of lump ray like teeth the next moment it upon you ripping into your side and desperately trying to push itself into your chest with all your strength you pull it away from the wound throw it to the ground and hold it in place with your boot and crush it with a swing from your hammer then you wake up alone in the forest shivering the wound burns again you ask the village priest s in the herbalist you tried many remedies and Kroft foul-smelling mixtures still the wound Fester's turning black you try to fall asleep but your mind dwells on what fate awaits you and whether a thing like the one you killed sorry and whether a thing like the one that killed you will emerge from your chest once you die lose one energy and gain one terror move that down and we move that up the prophetic dream cause be all to lose the points of energy and gain a point of Terror are just the markers accordingly right now we proceed to part eight which is the second day so we reduce the men here dial so it goes from 8 from 7 down to 6 and now we will draw the next event card but for this scenario it's a fixed event tired and in pain you start the final leg of your journey so we now tell it's now telling us to travel to the whitening so we spend one energy and we move to the whitening now the whitening has a lightning bolt ability which says draw a blooming counter when you enter this location so that's what we're going to do yeah we draw the blooming counter and let's see what we've got we have a suspicious guard so there's two you at the start you remember I had two decks I had the combat deck in the diplomacy deck they're the two main types of encounter you're going to have what we now have we've seen combat we're now gonna have a diplomacy check so here is a card which is going to cause the diplomacy check so on the left hand side we have what's called an affinity track there's going to be a cube that starts on the grey space if it moves to the top green space then we basically succeed and if it moves in the bottom space it fails some of them are multistage cards this is a one stage card and the bonus this Celtic symbol here that will basically give us a move up on there and when the anyone is the enemy's turn like in combat the enemy attacks you in this game it will move down this is basically like a tug of war we're going to be moving this cube backwards and forwards we're trying to get into the top there trying to get it to the bottom so that's how diplomacy checks work I'm gonna move that to there and then what we've got is very similar to the combat checks we draw the top three cards of our diplomacy taken this time I haven't shuffled Oh excellent normally you would shuffle them but for this tutorial it is these three fixed cards right so what is he telling us to do oh we need to put a cube on the gray space there there we go so the first first diplomacy turn and again all of this is summarized on this card here so this is the diplomacy overview draw three cards from the diplomacy deck which we've done and then we have playing our cards so what's it telling us to do he's telling us to play eye for detail okay you're telling us to play that in there and what does that do for us so we look at this top one we need to empathy for that no but there wasn't anything there anyway this one needs one caution which we have so we get that symbol it tells us in here what that symbol is it moves up one so we use our our diplomacy powers of caution we're a bit cautious and that's moved up and then we have a delayed ability of drawing one card now the free key at the bottom remember the freaky always activates but there's nothing in there so it doesn't do anything right that's the first turn played we do the affinity check did we reach the top no did we reach the bottom no so now the opponent responds now I could play a second card but if you look I could play this I could play backtrack but I'm just gonna follow the tutorial so I'm not I'm not gonna play any other cards I'm just gonna follow what it tells me to do so now the opponent responds and the response is it moves down one there you go so I was a little bit cautious he liked that but then he responded and it moved down what we now go through to the second term discard down to three cards draw a new one yep card number four misdirection and the start of the next turn we have resolved delayed abilities so this was a delayed ability this now gets removed and we draw one card so I now have a threatening voice right what's it telling us to do it's telling us to play misdirection it was our first card okay so I'm gonna do that because that's what it's telling us to do and I think the reason why it's telling us to do that is because of the free key at the bottom this one has a two times multiplier in it oops so this moves up twice one two there we go now let's have a look at the other case this key matches but all it is is the lightning bolt icon which means I could have played this as my second card if I wanted to and then we have an ability which isn't mentioned in here or is it yeah the text of this card instructs you to lose one reputation we don't have any reputation at the moment so yeah oh no that's something else no it's not mentioned that but we can ignore it let's just have a look at what that icon is actually just out of interest it is discard the last card from the sequence oh if you discard the last card from the sequence then move down one and lose one rep okay so I'm not sure about that but it's not mentioning anything in the tutorial about that so I'm gonna I'm gonna skip over that I don't fully understand that one so yeah apologies for that right what are we now gonna do it is now threatening voice so the reason why we can play threatening voice as a second card is because we the freaky always activates is always connected and it contains the lightning bolt icon which means we can play this as our second card otherwise we wouldn't have been able to because there's nothing up there so threatening voice comes into play and when we play it we lose one rep which we don't have any rep and now if you have at least two aggression which we do we basically move up one which goes to there so what we've done is we've used our threatening voice and because we are extremely aggressive we basically we move up what on the arrow and that that is it we have succeeded we've got that to the top so diplomacy checks are a little bit like combat checks in that you're playing cards but instead of dealing damage and health and everything else you're basically in a sort of tug of war of diplomacy of like well what about this all of that and it can end well or it can end badly depending on where you end up so yeah we do the we do the victory check that's what it's called the affinity check and we've got we've got to the top so we've done it and the reward is Game one reputation there we go so that card goes back here we then shuffle our diplomacy card so every time you've done a diploma thing you'd basically get to shuffle them together and that is that so the next thing to do is to spend one energy is that right are we on are we on for what did we do oh yeah because we had the bad dream then we spent an energy to move yeah now we're spending an energy to explore which again would normally you would flip the card over but for this tutorial we're gonna read the next bit of text the whitening the hole is here as always gaping at the heart of whitening the white lichens that gave this town its new name seems to grow from grow out from it it covers the walls of the nearby halls with a thick coat only close up one can discover it is in fact layer of small sparkling crystals like sea salt on the wooden posts of appear as you inspect it several people watch you suspiciously you shrug your arms and show them you're not interested in their secrets go to verse 7 write verse 7 there is no love lost between conact and the whitening you shouldn't stay here too long now we have a choice he's actually giving us a choice we can village a village visit visit the village tanner or we can ask the whiteners about their men here what should we do answers in the chart the first answer that comes up I will go with that one do we visit the village Tanner who apparently I think has this meteorite which is what we're looking for or do we ask the whiteners about their men here I will watch the chat I'll have a drink of water while I'm waiting first answer in the chart let me know what I should do there's a 20 second delay on this going out so hopefully hopefully somebody's gonna make a decision men here right both of you have said many and we're gonna ask the whiteners about the men here verse 5 your questions spur no kindness so instead of relying on them you approach the Guardian men here to see it for yourself it looks like the one in your town but something is off the sensation you experienced around Kodak's monument an indescribable feeling that the world is suddenly more in focus he's gone so the rumors were true whitening 'he's men here is now a dead piece of stone gain one terror and one experience right I'm blaming you long I've gained a terror and it's your fault you told me to do it that's what we did earlier on today as well um oh but we do gain one experience point excellent there we go I need to zoom out a bit don't ya let's zoom out a bit and let's straighten this so it looks nice there we go um right then what we do Oh go back to verse seven and make another choice right so all the people who said we shouldn't speak to the Tanner we're now gonna do that you asked around about the Tanner earthier wanted you to find and draw some strange looks finally someone tells you that this man moved out several months ago angry and confused you reach the tannery only to find the building and abandoned covered in cobwebs what's going on was this a cruel joke gained one terror oh and gained part two of the surprising errand status so this stated here I've just ticked number two and now we go to part 13 which is the way back so you have to go back to kono it's fast travel to Hunter's Grove as before so one energy to move to Hunter's Grove now we only have two energy left but he's telling us we want to get home fast so it is suggesting we spend one energy become exhausted and we move to here now Beor has an ability printed on his card that every time he becomes exhausted we lose a health because it excuse me because of the festering wound so there we go we've lost the health we are now back in our hometown exhausted but we do spend our remaining one energy I don't think we lose another health because we're or we are already exhausted so we're not we're not becoming exhausted and then basically go to the tutorial journal so we are now back in location 101 but now we can choose the second option because we have both parts of the surprising errand you enter connect exhausted and in pain yet even in this condition you quickly realize something happened in your absence many son died towns folk walk the streets or argue in small groups startled you look towards the men here but it seems fine surrounded by ribbons flapping in the wind there's no weirdness in conduct so what could draw all these people out of their houses as you approach the forge you almost stumble upon the boy who usually delivered earthly as messages they're gone the boy tells you they left at the break of day if he wants you to take care of his workshop you stumble into the building only to find it empty say for a note lying on the workbench held securely in place by a heavy ingot of star iron three times you attempt to read the parchment your eyes watering from helpless rage in sazar fear left conact without you traveling with lord you vain fail Obert and neon tea they head for Camelot where they hope to find help for your town you were deemed too weak for this journey not good enough a silent rage grows within you gone are the exhaustion and the pain you leave the forge and look to the east somewhere there behind rolling mists clouds of weirdness and dangerous trails the Kernow champions journey on you're sure you'll find them each party member gains warm terror and there we go that is the end of the tutorial personally I think that is a really good way to learn the game as I say I haven't looked at the main rule book yet all I've done is I've opened the game gone through this and we have learned so much we have learned how to spend energy to move around the board we've learned how to explore weave how to learn we've learned how to do actions we've learned how to do combat we've learned how to do diplomacy all within a four page QuickStart guide and they've done it in such a way that it hasn't spoiled anything about the main story so thank you very much to everybody for watching I'm not going to disappear right now because what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do the thing that it suggests in the book and in here yeah I'm now going to go through that combat check again but instead of it being scripted I'm gonna do it with random cards from my combat deck okay so it was this thing let's zoom in again so it was this mist shaped vermin and this time I am gonna shuffle my combat deck now your combat deck when you actually play the game properly I believe is a whole bunch of cards for your specific character and some basic cards thrown in so at the moment we're just using the pre-built one for the tutorial but vo does have either in combat deck and it is quite a bit bigger than this there is no diagonal movement yes you can only move to a card which is connected and connected means literally you can see that there's the numbers on either side so 101 and 103 they are connected together so yeah you can only move orthogonal II what can the other players do during your turn that's a good question I mean I've not played multiplayer yet I'm not sure please perform one action each in any order so you're not taking all of your actions at once what happens you will take one action your spensive energy your move then it's your turn so the turns I think are gonna be relatively quick obviously when you do combat they perhaps won't be bought I think there's combat with multiple people at the same place there's got to be there's got to be yes the tutorial did state you can only move to a connected location right so anyway we're gonna draw three cards and we have drawn powerful blow kardama 12 final blow card number 10 and attack card number one well we know what attacked us cuz we had that last time right how are we gonna do this so this is basically a little bit of a puzzle right well let's pretend we've got let's pretend we've got like for energy or something like that so what we could do is we could do this powerful blow which is just I mean that's that's an automatic win isn't it if we were to play powerful blow now we would get three cubes right away and then if I played this one which I could because I have courage and there's that then I basically add another three cubes and I've won but it did cost me one energy to play that card so yeah with those two cards I could easily beat the rack which makes sense I mean this is a very very simple enemy just for the tutorial so this is the thing I could if I wanted to just play those two cards and defeat it there we go I thought that might have been a little bit more complicated to work out okay I'm gonna do it again with three different cards because I just want to show you a little bit more here we go this right this is a big oh gosh this has got things right that I don't know what they do want so this is gained two charges and then this is tosser dial okay which is basically what if the he's one of these coins so you do actually flip them okay interesting um what are we going to do do you want to play that yeah I'm gonna play that I'm gonna play whiskey attack well this makes sentence if it's risky so that goes on there and what have we connected we've connected the Hedgehog so I get to draw a card there's my combat deck grapple oh we've connected the snake and I do have practicality so we get a cube and we get a cube for that one as well right so this is telling us to toss a dial very good toss was it okay and we've got the Grail so we get to get two wounds and we've won there you go right well that was easy so we've done three combats and I've succeeded in every one right you've got an idea of how the combat works I assume that there will be more difficult combats as the game goes on but what we're now going to do is we're going to do that diplomacy check again so here we go we've got the suspicious guard and remember we need to get this cube to the top and let's see what we do okay so the three cards we have are misdirection which we've seen threatening voice which we've seen so I'm going to get rid of those because we've seen him might makes right bizarre methods and show-off right now the problem is some of these cards have this icon on and I don't exactly know what that means and I don't have the real book with me because it's downstairs so again I'm doing things now outside of the scope of the tutorial and it does actually say if you do this you're gonna have to look at the rulebook for some things and that is discard the last card from the C so if either of the designers are in the chat please let me know how these two abilities here work is if is it if you discard the last card from the sequence then I can move up one I think that's what it means right so what are we going to play what are we in your play has my first card now the thing is I'm not very good be all reasons very good at the whole diplomacy thing if you look at his his stats he doesn't have any empathy whatsoever yeah no empathy he's got one caution and no spirituality so a lot of these things are not going to line up particularly well let's show off yeah let's show off why not that suits the character so that goes there oh gosh we need to empathy to trigger the top ability that's fine with all of that but we do have this one x or pero so we move one up because I've showed off but when the card is played lose a health that's fine because I probably fell over a rock or something while showing off and then if I discard the last card in the sequence which is this one I move up one is that right doc is saying will I be posting a VOD of livestream I don't need to the link that you used for this video oh thank you Ricky's got the rulebook thank you very much the link for this video that you're watching now as soon as this livestream finishes it's exactly the same link it goes on my youtube channel you can watch it live or you can watch it afterwards and it's still on there um it's a bit we're doing a video with Vicki watching downstairs right she's obviously downstairs watching what happens yeah it is just discard the last card of your sequence right there we go anyway what's happened so I don't get that top one but I do get the bottom one which moved up I've lost a health and then if I discard the last card in the sequence I can move another one up do I want to do that I'm not sure because what I'm looking at is this has got two times on it so if I had a card with a no para one that would be brilliant but I don't I don't have one but I might draw one hmm yeah I mean it just shows be all really good at combat and he's not very good at diplomacy at all so yeah I think I think we're not gonna do it we're not gonna do it and I'm not going to play any other cards of this turn right yeah so you know saying if you discard this card something happens yes right okay cool we got it right so that's the end of the first turn of diplomacy no he's not no the enemy does its thing which in this case is it moves down one right that's the end of the first turn discard down to three cards don't draw a card it's bizarre methods again is it the same yes it's the different card number but it's exactly the same right okay so what am I going to play now well I'm gonna have to play these bizarre methods so that's going to go there so we check the icons I don't have any empathy I have that one I have the caution so I get the Celtic symbol which is move up one and then nothing in the free box which is a shame we now have to toss a dial where's the dial DOM it's a school lose one rep okay cuz I used bizarre methods I don't quite know what but word got around that that that'd be all character he's a bit odd um do I want to play another one I'd need to match a lightning bolt symbol which I can't so it moves down one because that's the response and then I draw another card might makes right again okay hmm I think these are these are the cards I'm gonna have to play basically I can use my brute force to do it so yes I'm gonna play I'm gonna play this I'm gonna play this is my first card of diplomacy turn three now there's no matching no matching things there's a matching magic but I don't have any magic and that does nothing so although none of those do anything I can do this ability here lose one wreck I don't have any rep to lose because nobody liked me anyway but I do go one up for each point of your regression and I have two aggression so it goes one two up do I want to play another card can a plane of the card I can't play another card Oh tell you what what I could do is I could win this yes because if I now discard the last card in the sequence I go up once more so yes let's do that so I discard that card I go what once more and that is the affinity shake done so that might make right for me that was the card which would be that diplomacy attempt and there we go so yes a busty insane it's funny how this character is so good in combat and weak in diplomacy however yeah this might makes right that was really good that got me to up but you know the character isn't very good at diplomacy because of these cubes and I assume you can level up your character and get cubes on here there is so much about this game the next stage for me is to actually now open the rulebook and the way that I like learning games personally is I like to play by doing which is why this tutorial for me has been brilliant it's really jumped me straight into the game what I'm tempted to do is actually just set up the full game and learn how to play as well some people don't like doing that some people want to put in loads of work and effort and read the rulebook and get all of the rules absolutely clear before they want to start playing I'm fine with learning as we go so anyway there we go short video was it I don't know what time is it six o'clock so yeah about an hour it would take you about half an hour to go through the tutorial you might want to go through the tutorial yourself I mean if you're playing this solo you probably now don't need to go through the tutorial because you've seen me do it but if you're playing this with other people I would strongly recommend literally just doing exactly what I've done going through this step-by-step and then let them do the combat and the diplomacy again themselves so that they go through the process of learning how it works very good introduction thank you very much to awaken realms obviously for this advanced copy of it and and thank you for putting in this time and efforts because learning games is a challenge it's hard for people to do and you've made it easier with this guide anyway thank you very much to all of my patreon supporters that give me basically the funding to make all of this happen as I mentioned earlier on the the full official how to play videos that I will be doing for awaken realms they are commissioned but a lot of the other content that I create is funded through my patreon campaign so if you enjoyed these videos please like subscribe to the channel consider supporting me on patreon and that's it until next time thanks very much to everybody for taking part in the chat and thank you to everybody who's watching this afterwards and I'll see you next time [Music] Gaming rules is proudly sponsored by game Stoppers upgrading your gaming experience visit game stoppers llc.com you
