is free-style breathing still a challenge for you does it feel like you're just not quite comfortable and you don't feel a sense of control well there's a skill that you can use to approach your practice in a different way because ultimately you want to feel the breath versus just doing it hey everyone this is coach Mandy and in this video I'm going to be explaining a very important skill to help you with your breathing in freestyle if you're new to this channel don't forget to hit the subscribe button at the bottom right hand corner and if you are returning first I want to extend my appreciation to you and if you want to be notified weekly hit the notification bell as well at the bottom right hand corner so if you're watching this video and you are a dancer or you've taken a dance class or attempted one you already know the complexities of learning a routine is you have to break it up into segments of eight counts because it's important to rehearse the movement feel what you need to do and then it forms a habit and then you don't really have to think about it so much because it just becomes a natural state of being so the action of breathing which is physically rotating to the side to take a breath is a very foreign feeling especially for those that are not used to it so before just trying to swim and attempt the breathing and getting frustrated by hitting a mental wall it's more important for you to stop regain your focus and actually just rehearse the breath in place so in this video I'm going to demonstrate a rehearsal skill that you can do in the water that will help you become more comfortable so not only that you can physically learn the breath in terms of the exchange of air when you exhale and when you inhale but also just getting comfortable with keeping your head low and relaxed if you've watched on my earlier videos on the fight-or-flight response the physical trigger that most people have is the feeling of when you move or rotate to the side for breath it's very foreign it just feels uncomfortable and it can start to trigger the sense of tension and overall anxiety so in this skill will help you combat that reflex in that trigger and help you just become more comfortable and the best thing to do is practice this as often as possible because I promise you the more you do this drill or the easier more comfortable your breathing is going to be and just overall being more comfortable in the water so who doesn't want that right alright so pay close attention in this video demo as I will record my voice and explain in detail how to perform this drill so before you get started it's important to make sure that you have both feet firmly planted on the ground to avoid falling over then you want to keep one arm extended because you're gonna be practicing only one side at a time then once you place your face in the water anytime you roll out and roll back in you want to exhale through your nose only and then let the inhale happen through your mouth this will help you become more comfortable with keeping your head low and avoid any water going up your nose so it's important to take your time with this drill and get very comfortable with keeping your head to the side and keeping your head low so here's a quick demo of the freestyle breath in action [Music] [Music] [Music] all right so I hope you found that demo useful for your training now before you try this out in the pool I want to end the video with a question for you what is one of the biggest challenges you face with your practice in terms of freestyle breathing if it's something that is challenging for you and after you actually try this rehearsal drop a comment below and let me know how it goes I'll write you guys I'm signing off and don't forget to Like comment and subscribe and of course stay tuned for more [Music] you
