I’m not sure OP or the other comments are actually understanding what’s going on here. The title is phrased in a way that makes it sound like Ward did something wrong.

The safety Ward DID “stay in the middle of the field no matter what” like Warner told him to do.

Andy Reid understood perfectly the rules of the Niners cover 3 match coverage, he knew that the middle safety would be matching hard on any deep over route.

That’s why he called the play that he did. It was essentially a double move with Hill running right at the safety like he’s gonna running a deep over. Then the moment Ward flips his hips and commits to the inside route Hill breaks to the outside.

Just 3 of the greatest to ever do it (Reid, Mahomes, Tyreek Hill) designing, calling, and executing the perfect play. Brilliant football.
