Super Bowl 54 FULL Game: Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers

[Applause] Hardman will bring it out of the end zone a probe will returner and he's out across the 25 a return of 29 yards where Jimmy Ward brings him down you know when people ask me as I know they've asked you Troy over the last two weeks who you like in this game I said well you know you look at San Francisco's defense you think man they can just smother any offense but then there's Patrick mahomes and he can flat-out take over again yes he can and he is shown I mean he has the ability to throw the football from anywhere on the field the last two playoff games he has become a receiving or excuse me a running threat as well so it will be important to hold him within the pocket here's a little pitch to Williams running to his right the nice pickup on first down as Drake Greenlaw the rookie linebacker brings him down after a gain of seven you always come into a game as a quarterback and kind of wonder how the game is going to be called Andy Reid they started off with a easy little pitch by Patrick mahomes this is an offense that does not run the ball a lot on first and second down but try to settle Patrick mahomes in early I would expect some high completion passes here in the early part of this Drive on second down this one was knocked away getting a hand on it was Nick mosa the rookie the Pro Bowler and a guy who is everywhere for the 49ers yes and this will be a matchup worth keeping an eye on throughout the the ballgame Nick Bosa I've got to believe he lines up on both sides but he's going to line up to the offensive right and work against Derek Fisher he has shown that he struggles at times against that bull rush he's able to get his hand there and then force a third down this one incomplete for Damian Williams and it's three and out to start the game for Kansas City the top third down defense in the NFL come up short on second and third and three it's a good design they're going to try to run a pick because the 49ers are in man coverage and if Patrick mahomes is able to hit him in stride now your one on one on Fred Warner so nice work by San Francisco enforcing a three and out to start this game Dustin Colquitt two-time Pro Bowl punter it's at high for Ritchie James and he muffed it able to get back on top of it as byron Pringle was the first guy downfield after this 50-yard punt and almost an auto moment here early in Super Bowl 54 yeah I mean nerves are showing themselves here in the early going Missy James jr. whoo did not fumble any of his returns during the regular season returning punts and kicks puts one on the ground but gets it back to set up San Francisco at their own 18 they run it with Coleman to the right well played by the Chiefs defense as Noddy was the first guy there and he wasn't alone a loss of 128 year-old Jimmy Garoppolo who has just gone 23 and five overall as a starter as you see 21 and 5 with San Francisco has not had to do a whole lot this postseason through it 19 times against the Vikings only eight times against Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game play-action kettle the big tight end close to first down yardage and it looks like they're going to give him enough and they will for a first down to gain of 11 well you got to be disciplined on defense for Kansas City Daniel Sorensen he's out there he's lined up out there with kettle but he's got his eyes in the backfield and he's looking back in here and as he does that off of that play-action it gets Kittel right out there in the flat an easy completion for Garoppolo to kind of settle in and a first down 49ers third year head coach Kyle Shanahan the plays for this 49er offense here's a little toss to depo Samuel over the right side big play still going and the rookie picks up 32 they're in a too deep shell to start with so they're gonna be a little bit short but you've got debo Samuel who's going to come across here he's going to get the toss you see outside that Frank Clark he's got to contain he gets caught a little bit inside then you've got the kick out in the lead block out in front with Mike McGlinchey and just a great executed play well-designed big play debo Samuel led all NFL wide receivers during the regular season in Russia ARDS he gets 32 there he's a rookie [Applause] here is a handoff to Coleman and this offensive line is going to work for San Francisco as Tevin Coleman coming off that dislocated right shoulder he suffered in the champion gets seven I'll tell you what Joe right now Kansas City they they are playing more of a too deep look on first down every first down on this possession they have gone too deep look saying Garoppolo has the ability to check things Kyle Shanahan checking that out seeing what they're doing and they've gashed them you know with those runs they're going to get them out of that in a hurry if they continue to run the football the way they have here a first-year defensive coordinator Steve spagnolo trying to come up with an answer fast here is a handoff to Coleman he gets a yard and so third down and a couple coming up for the 49ers total offense during the regular season and this offensive line was so good and we probably didn't give them enough credit for what they did against the Packers defense no they have really come on the last six games of the regular season of course what they've done in the postseason right now depending on what happens here Joe I've got to believe Kyle Shanahan is regarding this right now is four down territory both stirred in the ball game here's another toss to Samuel looks like he wants to throw instead he'll just pick it up with his legs first down San Francisco and a gain of seven as Anthony Hitchens made the stop of the impressive drive continues for Kyle Shanahan well they were definitely going to throw it but watch Derek naughty they were going to come back to Jimmy Garoppolo on the throw back and naughty he recognizes it he gets out there is he going to be able to make a play I don't know but good enough for debo Samuel to tuck it and then go and pick up the first down good decision on his part he's a big bodied wide receiver 215 pounds any way they can they want to put it in his hands have done it twice duffle trick plays already by Shanahan on this opening drive heavy pressure pass is caught by most hurt and he has swallowed up immediately by Mike Pennell a gain of two tore this defense got better and better as the season went on they are missing a couple of big pieces including their rookie free safety Juan Thornhill who went down week 17 with a torn ACL yeah and that was fairly significant although Daniel sorts and he has stepped in a guy who was a starter a couple of years ago and here he is back here and he's done a he's done a good job in the two postseason games but you're right they have shown improvement coming off one of their best performances of their best performance in the AFC Championship game here's a throw to Samuel nothing there kettles block taken care of by the Kansas City defenses was shot Breeland got through and made the stop a loss of two a really great job by passat Breeland in being physical and playing through the block to throw a little bit high so he's not able to catch that on the move and now third down and ten is Jeff Wilson checks in for the first time in the game here's Frank Clark at the top he's been on a terror penalty flags FreePlay pass is dropped by Wilson they like him catching it out of the backfield hasn't been active since week 15 no activity in the postseason dropped it but it looked like passing yo came across earlier love side he festival 55 they say that it was Frank Clark but passing you right there yeah right there he slides inside and number 92 and he's had a nice couple games also here in the postseason and now they make it a more manageable third and five you bring up a good point Joe with the running back Jeff Wilson he's not as fast as the others that they have but he gives them the best opportunity of coming out of the backfield and being a receiving threat and that's an advantage for the 49ers against the linebacking for in Kansas City that's not great cover guys they're down in five good protection for Garoppolo in the pass is incomplete looked like it was tipped Damien Wilson may have gotten a hand on it to bring up fourth down well Steve Spagnola you're gonna double up George Kittel you're gonna get underneath him and take him away in that situation third and five and Gruffalo has to go elsewhere that's immediately where he was looking to go in so Kansas City although 49ers able to put together pretty good Drive they're at least able to make a stop and that's going to be a key both these offenses come into this game in the postseason having played well in the red zone Robbie Gould from 38 first points of the game belong to the 49ers Kansas City went three and out San Francisco got into field goal range in the vet Robbie Gould knocked it through just underway in Super Bowl 50 for Hank Stram the Hall of Famer the late great Hank Stram that never gets old that it just doesn't and I got to know Hank early on in my life he was my dad's radio broadcast partner a Monday Night Football on CBS radio and and that was Hank you got good postgame look at things have changed since Super Bowl four was the 69 season January of 1970 the average ticket price is it's a little more steep cost of a 30-second commercial a lot more steep halftime acting than the play-by-play guys how about that the more things change the more they stay the same congratulations pal I know that's meaningful to you as it should be and awesome to be working alongside you tonight thank you buddy this to my mom I know that from the 25 mahomes out to his right finds Tyree kill and he gets 9 [Applause] take a look at the defense for San Francisco the Chiefs now have opened every game this postseason with a three and out it was against Houston then against Tennessee and we look at his defense that held at Kansas City to a three and out first time they had the football [Applause] Jamie and Williams cuts back gets a first down mosa went to stop a gain of two this offense Jo for Kansas City we talked about once Patrick mahomes came back off of the injury they played good but not as well as they'd played early in the season a lot of changes to along that offensive line a lot of injuries five to did six different offensive line combinations they were finally able to settle in same five starters now the last five games and that's made a difference the home slings it Tyree kill makes a move gets a couple of extra yards as he got away from Richard Sherman and a gain of eight as King Juan Williams eventually made the stop well you've got Tyree kill out there and we all know no one on the field can run with him you've got Sherman out there one on one so he's certainly going to guard against him running by him but the king in this game really for both defenses is going to be the ability to limit the yards after the catch both of them throughout the year have been outstanding in that area second down in two of the homes backpedaling as he throws high for Williams 32 will be flag on the play on the far side of the field [Applause] we get the call from bill vinovich working his second Super Bowl [Applause] now piece this thing together Joe but it looked at me like they had illegal man downfield it's you know they run that that read-option and when it's not handed off and the ball doesn't come out on time you're gonna smell good receiver downfield offense over 72 pending decline local play third down so they get Eric Fisher he's declined to bring up third down [Applause] Kelsea he's coming across he's trying to to help secure the fact that if Holmes does keep but they got Fischer being downfield now third down and two and the handoff for the first down to Damien Williams so the 49ers decline the penalty and on third and short a gain of five Kansas City went 12 and four they won the AFC West Patrick mahomes the third player in NFL history to win an MVP award which he did last year and make a Super Bowl over his first three seasons joining Marino and Warner and they overcame the tenth plus point deficits in both postseason games so far quickdraw past caught that's Kelsey he gets nine Jaquan ski tart downfield to make the stop the play-action in the back field holds Fred Warner it keeps him from being able to get over there to make the play on this throw watch what the action in the backfield does and then that creates the little Lane there to get it in there to Travis Kelce and so for for an offense that doesn't run the ball really all that well they play-action passing it proves the theory that you don't have to be a great running team to hit the great play-action game here's Williams another first down and more down inside the 30 where Sherman makes the stop in a gain of 15 well you get movement like this on Sheldon day the defensive tackle the push that the Chiefs are able to get on him he just completely gets wiped out there in the middle of the field and it opens up a heck of a lane for Damian Williams chief started this game with LeSean McCoy not active so Darwin Thompson is the backup to Williams and he's in there now the rookie from Utah State [Applause] little toss the hill makes a move and Warner doesn't play forced out of bounds after a gain of four the Pepsi Super Bowl 54 halftime show is coming up right here on Fox second down at six and what has been a fast-paced first quarter here in Miami under four to go yeah I like what Andy read though has done here on this Drive he's balanced up the run pass and he's been able to hit him a couple times with the running game [Applause] free play on second down Pass is caught Kelsey makes a move inside the 15 Earl Mitchell came across early and on this free play that get 11 well you see Emanuel Mosley decline that silky play that's the challenge and trying to cover a guy like Travis Kelce even though you have a corner on him a big physical guy at 6'5 260 he's able to get physical at the top of the route create separation the 49ers because Patrick Mahal's held the count he's able to see exactly that pressure coming off the edge he knew he had one-on-one with Travis Kelce on first down mahomes what down Buckner was there joined by Earl Mitchell at a loss of one [Applause] well they take care of Hill on the back end they've run for cross zone and they're just making sure that they're gonna make him throw it underneath and then come up and rally and make the play but the pass rush this time is able to get home sermon on Chelsea right here swings it high incomplete for Hill and to change the arm angle and the Holmes is an expert at bat but could not complete it to Tyree kill well I think if you look at this Joe and just like Kansas City even though the 49ers were able to move the football they force a field goal I think it's going to be that type of game the 49ers will be happy if if they give up yardage and all Kansas City has the show for it is it's three points at the end of these drives will play this drive that's covered five and a half minutes third eleven mahomes will try to run and get it ball gets knocked out he had picked up first down yardage the ball went out of bounds on the hit by Jimmy Ward and we'll see where they put it and ward is down [Applause] we'll see where the ball is spotted as Jimmy Ward is checked by the medical staff for San Francisco back after this Jimmy Ward is okay popped up jogged over to the sideline here's the collision mahomes had the first down but with this hit and it was a big hit right on the football he lost the first down yardage so it's fourth down and one and Troy after initially sending Harrison Buckner out to try the field goal Andy Reid's going to go for it yeah and I will tell you San Francisco defensively they are the best in the NFL in stopping teams on third and fourth and one we'll see what happens here but yes when they had the kicking team out to settle for the field goal was a little surprised by that a shift in a direct snap it's Williams he is short of the touchdown but a first down as Damian Williams gets for right now ruled short of breaking the plane of the goal line and a good call real good call so right Andy Reid he pulls a little trick play out of his own you got in the homes and that moved there on the shift then gives free access for Williams in order to get the snap from center and he just hit it right up the gut now first in gold from just inside the one here's the wookie and driving no signal yet they're going to mark him short that's Darwin Thompson who had one rushing touchdown all season and had only one carry this postseason before this Super Bowl that most his carries came towards the end of the season and a lot of trust right there for the rookie down there in a Super Bowl on the goal line a lot of bodies everybody's reaching for the football [Applause] now second and goal mahomes look in the clip takes you in for the touchdown well the action in the backfield is mahomes pivots around to claw skeet art he's kinda in no-man's land at that point the linebackers were out of position and if he tries to come up and take the Long's he pitches it out it's a walk in either way that's a it's a great job good decision by Andy Reid going for it on fourth down and capitalized into coming away with a touchdown no team no head coach went for it fewer times this regular season on fourth down than Andy Reid just ten times but he goes for it here down by three in the Superbowl it leads to the touchdown [Applause] Patrick mahomes has been the Chiefs leading rusher this postseason he's been doing it all grilling those fans watching backup Chiefs their first Super Bowl in 50 years takes it in from a yard out camping at 15 place 75 yard drive almost seven and a half minutes on the clock [Applause] but she James waits for the kick from bunker you won't touch it chrismyers pretty big hit put on patrick mahomes by jimmy ward piaggio and afterwards he came over to the chief sideline and they were fired up mahomes who on that third down hit did not receive any medical attention but he told his teammates and i'm paraphrasing here you know we can handle this let's stay top it even heads turned on the some of the defensive players on this sideline and it appeared his toughness in that moment had something to do at least influence the team going for it on 4th and the eventual touchdown Nick Chris he played through that early an ankle injury then dislocated his kneecap in that game on a Thursday night in Denver week 7 missed only two games [Applause] from the 25 now trailing by 4 49ers throw with Garoppolo and finding a hole in this defense downfield Emanuel Sanders we've seen Kansas City they've run the two deep on early downs on the cover first couple possessions now they go single high they're gonna start creeping up trying to play that run game now off the play-action you see that nice window there that Jimmy Garoppolo has and that is a good feeling for a quarterback when you come off of that look and you've got that kind of room to fit it in there 7 3 ballgame in Super Bowl 54 after one box Super Bowl Sunday returns after some kind of shot by San Francisco but here they're now they're second and long Garofalo able to stay upright Greenland is there for Kansas City and the interception first turnover of the game was shot Breeland who made that previous play heavy pressure by Chris Jones and then they hit by Mike Fennell the pitch black Breeland we're going to give you a look at boishakh ghrelin as he was making his way out of bounds just able to secure the interception the toes on the left foot was down the right foot clearly and then he stepped out they reviewed it looked at it said the pic was good [Applause] Kansas City starts at its own 44 [Applause] mahomes for what Guinness found a hole inside the 30 completion of 28 yards well Sammy Watkins comes all the way across Kevin Williams I'm not so sure if he's supposed to carry that or not but he gets caught kind of looking on the swing route to his side that holds him there with the back and it allows mahomes n to just drop it into to a wide-open Sammy Watkins [Applause] both start offense number 76 five-yard penalty still first down let's go back to that completion - Sammy Watkins well go back and show the interception Chris Jones here in the middle he's able to get past Mike person no helped by Rahim Mostar who's right there in the backfield that's why he was there but it was Pinal who put the hit on him and that's that's the throw Rob Lowe is just merely trying to get it out and avoid a sack but that's the play that pops up every now and then with Garoppolo that is a big concern and obviously a big change of momentum 15th interception for Garoppolo over the regular season postseason now more movement Salomon Thomas came across was he drawn across 29er could get those five yards right back neutral zone infraction detest over 94 penalty [Applause] he's Q in the center like when the center moved his head he's little anxious and then he gets called in the neutral zone so back to first intent Hardman makes the catch right off the top of the turf man Drake Greenlaw out there as two rookies go Attica a gain of just one they both those rookies they've had they've had nice seasons you know you look at Drake Greenlawn and he came in with the injury to Kwan Alexander and as far as Nicole Hardman goes he's been awfully dynamic he made the Pro Bowl as a return guy we know what kind of speed he has and he's got a really bright future second down and nine handoff here to Damian Williams and with possa making the tackle a gain of five you know it has been interesting what we've seen from Kansas City is them being willing to run the football and the 49ers they've had issues at times this season being able to play the run they have felt when they've had to stop the run they've been able to do that but they're ok with that I can promise you the focus for them is not giving up the big plays and also coming up with T stops down at this end of the field third down and four mahomes over the middle pass is caught Paul is out they're gonna call Watkins down but he's short of the first down Emanuel Mosley made the sure handed tackle and now another decision I'm coming for Andy Reed he's gone for it once on fourth down it'll be fourth and one again it's a great job by Emanuel Mosley coming up and making a play and I think this is a good decision by Andy Reed down here he's already made it once so if he decides to run the football again Williams on the pitch first down the Chiefs have not run a quarterback sneak since that game in Denver when Patrick mahomes had his knee cap dislocated out of the shotgun he pitches it to Williams and an easy pickup well they're in man coverage out here to the right which across key tart on Chelsea and so once they commit to playing mahomes they've got him now couple times to where there's been that they haven't handled that part of it when they've come up with the option play someone for the quarterback some for the pitch man [Applause] on first down mahomes floats it endzone it's a lot of contact with Greenlaw and coverage on Damien Williams yeah with you Joe I from here it sure looked like you know maybe a flag was going to be thrown great Greenlaw there 57 the rookie we were talking about just moments ago and no that's it's not so bad from that angle it didn't look like there was much Williams didn't have his head around looking for that throw from mahomes second down in tenth and that happens a fair amount with those two guys you see it over and over where my homes is ready to throw it and Williams doesn't have his head around looking for here's Williams on the carry survived one hit turns it into a positive play and of three so third down upcoming again for us Buckner made that stuff it's a big play right here you've got 3rd and 7 and to come up and make a play and limit this drive to just three points and it's not a big blitzing defense but Roberts Allah he will bring it at times and when he brings it they're usually pretty effective they're up here right now on third down pass broken up and well played by the 49er defense that was tar various more who met Darwin Thompson right when the ball was there and that was excellent work by the second-year pro from Southern Miss yes it was and you're gonna see the move then in the middle Fred Warner comes around a five man rush so solid does bring the pressure and he forces mahomes to get the ball out quick and then a heck of a play there by Moore 31 yard try by Parker who has hit 12 straight snap a bit high but no issue for Dustin Colquitt to get it down and on its end but Kern oxen throw Robert sell a pumped-up as his defense makes that stop cheap skip three up the turn Andy has been the head coach for 365 games and his NFL career this number 366 will it be the one where he and the Chiefs one at all Richie James on the return to the 20 and that's in laureano Daniel made the tackle a gain of 13 on the return Drive starts at the 20 tonight's Super Bowl features several 5g firsts from Verizon including the first time a 5g enabled wireless camera will be used to deliver live shot to the game there's 5g then there's Verizon 5g the chilly look at this first half hard to believe the 49ers have only had two possessions they've run just 12 plays here in this first half so a very important drive right now for them handoff here is two most hurt and he doesn't get much the hero the champ game had 220 rush yards and four touchdowns as Hitchens and Nadi combined on the stop and that's his first carry with nine minutes left in the half yeah the 49ers they they've just not been able to get the running game going and the reason it looks even halfway decent is because of debo Samuel with a 32-yard run otherwise they've been bottled up pretty good so this Kansas City defense picking right up where they left off in that AFC Championship game against Derrick Henry of the Titans held Henry to 69 rush yards after he dominated the Patriots in the ravens here's a toss most hurt running left looking for a lane and a nice gain on second and nine we'll see where they mark him out looks like enough for a first down and it is well that's some good blocking all these wide receivers this time Kendrick Ward he's able to help get the edge and get him on the outside Kendrick born 84 he goes in motion and then he comes up of course kettle you see the job that they do there was a lot of bodies over there and these receivers Collins made it clear if you're not willing to block off you're not going to play here's a little push past as Samuel another big by the rookie Tyrann Mathieu on the stop after a carry of 16 yards and it will go down as a pass but a strong run after the catch by debo Samuel nonetheless and then Samuel rahim most heard he's the lead blocker on that so he's serving in the kyle use check role and then of course kitto look at the job he does on Soren said he just knocks him right out of the frame that's uh you know when you try to settle down quarterback after throwing an interception come back with the running game and even with overloaded fronts again on this look right now the 49ers have been able to come up with some pretty good runs here's a hand out to moster nice cut up he's got ten plus Rayland on the tackle but raheem most dirt undrafted out of Purdue on his seventh team in the NFL and he has finally found traction with the 49ers and the Packers had no answer for him two Sundays ago no you're right I mean he was kinda everywhere and doing so much and he's been a nice story of course and then Tevin Coleman he's the guy a little bit more of the thumper they got the thumper in the lineup now with Kittel at fullback quick snap handoff to Coleman nice run Tevin Coleman down near the 25 a carry of 17 yards and the ground game is starting to work for the 49ers that's that power game inside by San Francisco and right now this offensive line these backs are rolling and we've seen it so many times Kyle Shanahan when he feels like he's got a hot hand and they're moving people like they are right now he doesn't get away from it very often this Drive four runs in that one pass it was basically a run that push pass to debo Samuel Garoppolo Keats throws good catch Samuel first down well that kid is tough but they come back with the read option and in once the linebacker flows then Samuel he's got to beat Freeland you're counting on that part of it but then there's no underneath coverage and P both Samuel he's developed into a nice receiver also talking about Nicole Hardman for the Kansas City Chiefs debo Samuels essentially becomes their number one guy heck he was the leading receiver with just five catches in the postseason after the two games coming into this one [Applause] Garoppolo keeps play-action passes caught news check touchdown Kile use check has proven that he can do it all he shows that they're going to block play acts and Daniel Sorensen his coverage and that's not bad coverage and then he's he's right in his hip pocket and he got to put the ball in the perfect position he makes the play able to keep his feet and then go get in the end zone this guy's a heck of a football player [Applause] Gold [Applause] 10:10 Garoppolo coming off the interception just found his fifth different receiver of the ballgame he's got his young head coach pumped up he's last five plays of that seven play drive all covered ten or more yards apartment dangerous returner for Kansas City gets a chance gets to the 20 and that is it Elijah lead on the stop I'll use check has the first 49er touchdown of this Super Bowl Erin Andrews she's been fun to watch yeah absolutely in this 49er sideline just absolutely erupted after he scored that touchdown juice as they call him he lines up a tight end half that wide receiver is one of the best blockers in the game Kyle Shanahan says he's been able to handle it he thinks because of the Harvard education but he's also a heck of a football player guys yeah Erin and I guess kind of fitting I mean he's one of these unselfish players at the 49ers have on offense and he gets the first touchdown after that return Nichole Hartman he's didn't look to he came off pretty sore [Applause] Damien Williams makes a move and then out-of-bounds with a catch and run of about ten Juan Alexander the one who whiffed on that tackle as they are checking McCall Hartman after that big hit by Elijah Lee on the left arm yeah and that's that's what it appeared that they were checking Joe but as soon as he got to the sidelines walking off he was he was bent over bent over a couple times trainer immediately went to him and they he's been over there with him on the sidelines ever since nice to pick the chief Scott when they traded D Ford to San Francisco he's up at the top of the defensive formation here's a pass complete that's tight end Blake Bell he gets nine maybe nine and a half Mosley on the stop the Pepsi Super Bowl 54 as most dirt carries third down coming up and timeout is taken after a 2 yard gain third down coming up for San Francisco here tonight the numbers Kansas City just took a timeout on defense they have two left they're just 20 seconds left in the first half third down and five for San Francisco pass is caught that's Wilson out of the backfield and now the balls sitting at the 45 but just 14 seconds remain as timeout is taken by the 49ers well that's what Jeff Wilson was going to bring that's why he was active he's out of the backfield he's going to run an angle route and see it's a good job he because on that scoring Drive they adjusted against us and where Chris Jones and tire and Matthew line up and end up we'll have a lot to say about how this defense plays the rest of the way second he's in coverage and that's what the play-action and the running game does he's got one on one and go with Garoppolo if he's able to make a better throw on that there was a lot of field out in front big pickup for another first down forced out by Sorenson but a carry of 14 yards it's just a different way to catch the edge you can see Ross dwelling right here and the job that he's able to do you got kiddo coming across and then he leads the way but dwelle he's the one who kind of secures that edge that gets Samuel then on the outside just a lot of different ways to create angles for these watch and they stay plastered it defenders and you watch the Chiefs regardless of who it is they do an excellent job of separating and giving them a homes a place to go with the football mahomes over the middle for Kelsey Travis Kelce to the 32 again of for where Sherman brought him down you know this is a Kansas City offense when you talk about all the big plays and I said coming in they they led the league in pass completions of over 40 yards and they're one of the best at pass completions of 20 yards to pick play offenses a fast break offense but they also have the ability to drive the ball from him where whatever it is but Tyree kill had every intention to drive to that open spot and typically you watch the lungs play he's leaving the receiver right into that hole handoff here to most dirt and he gets to play made by Saunders and that's been the thing that's been impressive so much about Patrick mahomes as has been for a big play offense and a big play quarterback the guy just simply does not throw interceptions and he didn't have one in the postseason until that last throw and that's just not something you see very often we'll see now whether or not this Kansas City defense can step up and make key stop yeah meanwhile Jimmy Garoppolo 15 of 17 with a touchdown and a pick he keeps here throws incomplete no flag Sanders was the target share various ward in coverage looked like there might have been a grab it was one-on-one nobody in the middle of the field the manual Sanders and that that's one of those grabs I think that Mike we were talking about coming into guy who can go up and make these type plays and he's got great length now watched they're gonna double the inside they double their and so that takes the safety completely out of the way Kendrick born he doesn't have the speed that some of these other receivers have he's got more height in length if he had the speed he probably hits his head on the ball club Garoppolo keeps drawers pass his check short of the end zone and very close to first down yardage hitchens on the tackle with just over three to go in quarter number three and knee is down there use check he does such a great job of just selling the run he buries final passing yo right down inside and it looks just like run and there's not a team in football that makes the run and the play-action look the exact same the news check here in recent weeks his ability to do this and that was a huge third down conversion for Kansas City all the momentum with the 49ers are moving the ball offensively it could ill afford to punt the ball right back to San Francisco if they failed to make that on first down the home screen behind Watkins that was mahomes his worst throw of the day he had Sammy Watkins a lot of attention paid to Kelsi Tiger e kills going to get a lot of attention and any number of guys after that can step up on any given play but Sammy Watkins has kind of been the guy that's been targeted for some of these misses him and he's got the sideline to help him and so what should have been a minimal game ends up being a first down Alexandr mistake games with a torn pack they thought he was finished when he something going the 49ers have been able to come up with a negative play against this offense third sack of the night for San Francisco now Mahone slides through turns it into a big game as he broke a inside lanes and keeping my homes from taking it you see what happens that opens up and then he runs and is able to turn this into now a very manageable third down about 13 yards third and six the interception and the handoff to most dirt gets one now starting to get a little bit chippy out there as you would expect right now the Chiefs with 10 minutes and 20 seconds and counting this is it's a critical drive for them right now obviously they got to make a stop but they got to make a stop now the 18 completions more in this game for Garoppolo than he had over the two previous playoff games combined and the win over the Vikings in the win over the Packers second and nine Garoppolo throws past too high incomplete for debo Samuel the Chiefs brought a blitz and that's what threw off the timing and the accuracy by Garoppolo that's Anthony Hitchens and he comes in on the Blitz and forces Garoppolo is trying to get it out and the ball sailed off so this is in here for Kansas City they need to come up with a big play here on third down to get the ball back to the Homes & Company you see if Steve spagnolo decides to bring some pressure and force the ball out of grappa Lowe's hands little bit of help so they helped out with Mosley but there is someone single cover down the field with an opportunity to make a play there's been times when Richard Sherman has been out there one all water we just have not been able to get the route along with the coverage to where it's been a favorable look from the homes but it's soft right now second and 15 Mahone steps into it pass is caught by Hill and he's got a first down Tyreke Hill good for 16 yards and the Chiefs want to hurry it up well look at the look I mean these guys are scared to death of that speed and there's all this field and yet he has no ability to catch it and stay on the move here's a challenge by Kyle Shanahan mahomes and company rushed up to the line to make sure that there wouldn't be a challenge I'll stand a hand throws the red flag as he and the 49ers believe just ball was trapped completed pass now it sure looks like a trap there take a break come back and get the call a challenge by the forty during the break they overturn the call that's a successful challenge by Kyle Shanahan because of that the ball on the ground no clean catch Tyree kill was wide open and Patrick mahomes just couldn't get it pressure down the field all the way on Jimmy Ward and once you threatened him he's one-on-one on the safety now you got to have time in the pocket in order to deliver that throw and he got it he hung in there I think it was bozo who was maybe coming off the edge to his left but he had time line held up huge play on third down now one toward the end zone incomplete for Hill that 44 yard completion is if it hits any part of that runway line I don't know that there's going to be anything there that they're gonna be able to overturn it and this play officially under review pretty good design play though there with you know I circle Travis Kelce and he pushes up and it allows Williams and to be able to get the ball with some room to run you see the right foot already on the boundary as they try to piece this together remember that was a third-down playing Mike well do I look at this one and say man it is so close to call which so many of them there are involving the pine line is the ball breaking the plane you need that shot down the line that closest one down the line here you can see the all the tip of the ball just has to break the plane and the foot is down out of bounds but it's that point I just don't think again this doesn't look to me to be clear enough to overturn it was third down and goal so if this calls overturn and they move it outside the goal line it would be challenges the call the tiger II kill cats that's incomplete brings up third and long and it looked like you're thinking okay where are they going to go for it if they don't make it on fourth down yeah Jimmy Garoppolo is is really fortunate there is fuller he he reads it the entire way he knows he's getting help on the inside and that could have very easily have been intercepted and Chris Jones got a little piece of that pass as its sailed past the line now third down in ten Garoppolo airs it out Sanders downfield is overthrown and now with a minute 33 left its fourth and 10 so he had him to Joe he got in behind them it's not what Kansas City wanted but a Emanuel Sanders he gets by Ward and Fenton nice Heath they're trying to double him on the outside but yeah just just overshot it so now fourth and ten I think this is the right decision to the 49ers they have all three timeouts they're going to have to make a stop either way see what they can do if they don't pick it up defense is going to come have to come out and make something happen play clock is there going to let the play go it's not going to matter as Garoppolo now has it knocked incomplete Clark was there and had pressure for the Kansas City defense that was awfully close to delay a game and there is a flag down but that happened during the play therefore the plays then there is no illegal touching first down Kansas City Kansas City takes over on downs with a minute 25 left you see the the pressure that the Kansas City brings and they get to them and just know no chance whatsoever and Garoppolo just trying to make something happen there on 4th down but now with the three timeouts there is still a chance but it's up to this defense now that'll go down as a sack for Frank Clark traded to the Chiefs from Seattle that's his fifth of this postseason handoff here plows ahead on first down timeout taken by the 49ers after a gain of four let's go back to that fourth and 10 play and watch the play clock in the background [Applause] yeah they'll normally look at that Joe the the official when it hits zero then they look to see if the balls being snapped and that was not the case yeah that was a little longer than normal Mike well I think you know we're looking at it as super super super slow-motion we looked at here at regular speed and you can see the back judge Rubin forward he's going to get ready to call it but by the time he sees the clock turned zero then by the time he then looks to the ball it's already being snapped those are that that little acceptable time frame in real time where to to buy some time and let those guys get down the field where he can try to make the play but you mentioned Andy Reid Joe and one of the most respected and most liked guys in all of football and really the history of the game there's so many people that have been touched by him and what he has meant to him I know his players love him loved him in Philadelphia they left the mone who's coaching at Green Bay they certainly love him in Kansas City and he turned this program around in the very first year I know there's a lot of people really happy for him too short of some miracle happening to come away with a Super Bowl win they did make the announcement that that last play was an incomplete pass not a fumble that Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl four winning team ten members of that team ended up in the Hall of Fame 17 total from the Chiefs and the Vikings that met at Tulane Stadium but how many players have come and gone great players great coaches for the Chiefs that have not been it's going to be a Super Bowl champ and big reg is called his third year quarterback Patrick mahomes the reigning MVP over to the sidelines great quarterbacks win big games and Patrick mahomes was bottled up most of the night became alive late and he plays on the move and he and these Chiefs will walk out of here winners of Super Bowl 54 no timeouts left for San Francisco as mahomes size to Free Agency is the only sports event happening currently. The situation will most likely still be a large deal during the televised draft. Now free past football games to cover the itch. If everything is cleared up by the NFL season this could be one of the biggest seasons yet.

I watched the 2013 wild card game earlier on Game Pass. It was nice to reflect on probably my lowest moment as a Chiefs fan (even though I took solace at the time that it was Andy’s first year) and watch the intricacies of how both our offense and defense were structured then compares to the 2019 team.
