so a couple of weeks ago i ran for the first time the sun joe scarifier d thatcher over at jeremy's lawn uh just doing a little bit of a fun project over there getting him sort of an early green up and it was the first time i'd actually used that machine before i know it's got a huge following online and it's just not anything that i'd ever gotten to really mess with so it had me thinking about a couple of different things and one of them was i really just don't like corded lawn equipment i think that it's kind of silly definitely gets in the way while we were shooting that video we were constantly like flipping that thing over another person was pulling it out of the way it was just kind of a mess now for the price of that machine at like a hundred hundred and twenty dollars i guess it's just something that you can deal with and it's fine when you're starting out with this particular cordless scarf fire dethatcher um it is a little bit different and the point of entry is a little bit higher where you can order it online from sun joe directly for i think 230 plus shipping or on amazon for around like 259 260 bucks somewhere around there so it is already right out of the gate twice the price as the corded version there are some serious upsides to not having the cord one obviously is just the mobility of the unit being able to take it around and get into areas where you might have a hard time working around with an extension cord that's also going to come with a drawback obviously you're going to have a limited run time and that's you know really up to you how quickly or how aggressively you are going to run the machine before it runs out of batteries so just to take you through the high points on this right here it comes with two 24 volt batteries it does have the two attachments for the inside the scarifier and the detacher they are super easy to take in and out uh it's pretty much a thumb screw the the cartridge pops out the other one goes in so you can change it on the fly which is really nice it also has a really easy height uh setting that's that's pretty cool as well it's just a couple clicks and so for today when i ran this i put it on the number three to just sort of get a middle setting and run across the neighbor's lawn as many times as possible now the reason i ran it across the neighbor's lawn is because mine is covered in thatch that this machine will definitely not hit and various other we'll get into that later [Music] so i took it over i'm reading through the specs it says that you'll get about 20 minutes of run time out of the batteries and i would say that's pretty much spot on i ran back and forth across this yard four times and every time i got through it i went back and i scraped up a pile and then i would do it again and i would rake up another pile and did it again and rake up another pile and i definitely could have kept going on this lawn it was not done yet uh just because it was so thick but the machine itself had absolutely no trouble with it one thing i would say is the bag is absolutely pointless because one pass through and the bag is full and you're emptying the bag it doesn't really do any good it's almost easier just to deal with the mess afterwards or even run over it with a mower and bag it at that time now another thing i did as sun joe never recommends going up and down hills and there's various reasons for that they recommend going back and forth so i actually i went up and down and i went side to side but i only ran the thing going forward i didn't do any pullbacks on it like i did in that other video just because we were giving that machine a run for its money so every time i made a pass and finish i i couldn't believe how much crap was coming up out of the line it was unbelievable how much dead matter was coming out and i'd scrape it pile it up and then i it would keep going and i really thought i was only going to get maybe maybe 2 000 feet of coverage out of the thing something like that but on that three height setting it actually probably did all in all around 4000 i would guess with how many times i went over it so it has enough to do like a medium to small lawn or you know if you have a big lawn you're gonna have to plan on a while to do it so the batteries are of their own manufacture it's the 24 volts there's a pair of them in there they came with this particular uh one that i ordered you can order it without the batteries if you already have some sun joe batteries uh which will save you some money um but you know they they do everything like you would expect it's got the sensor on the front though a couple of things that i'm still trying to find out i'm going to dig into this a little bit more but it says that the battery charger does not auto shut off and it takes about two hours to charge these up so uh that's one thing that can ruin the life of a battery is if you leave it on a charger and it doesn't have an auto shut off so that's something to pay attention to as you if you do end up getting one of these and using it so here's sort of the baseline takeaways on this it works really really well and i'm gonna go run it on a few different lawns and kind of put it through its paces but uh in the meantime i kind of screwed up and when i say i kind of screwed up i was looking at one of these and it was in the cart and i hadn't pulled the trigger on it i went back through and i ordered one and then i also emptied my cart so i have two of these and i only need one and in fact i don't know that i really need one i just want to put one through its paces so that's where you come in i'm gonna give the other one away and it's still sitting in the box and it is down in my garage and it is going to be for a lucky winner here's what i'm gonna do there's really no particular rhyme or reason for doing this aside from why not i guess i'm feeling generous and i don't want to send the thing back i don't really know why my loss your gain that's all there is to it so brand new one of these sitting in a box and here's how we're gonna do it i want you to comment cut the cord now in order to get this you need to be in the lower 48 that's a big rule and you need to be subscribed both of those things are super important so here's the plan this coming friday evening i will do a live feed and i will do a random generator i'd like you to be on there winner must be present so you will need to be on there on friday check the details in the description below we will go live from this space and you will be the proud owner of a new sun joe if you want more information on it also link in the description below you can click on and figure everything else out about it and uh you know check it out if this is something you're in the market for and you've got space in your garage great if it's something that you're not in the market for and you're hoping to win it that's also great it's gonna be a great tool no matter what so that's it hope you guys enjoyed the video i'll see you guys on friday [Music] you
