[Music] yes [Music] brothers and sisters in christ good morning we welcome god's gift of this beautiful new day a day of renewal hope and possibilities as you might be aware september is observed as mission month with today being mission sunday we are delighted to have you share in this special worship experience yes we are apart but we are united the praise team will lead us in singing we pray we place you at the highest place we bless the lord this morning as we come to worship him and to sing our words of adoration to the almighty god on every mission field we must have one before us one ahead of us and that person is god so we place him in the highest place for he is our great high priest we place him but there's nobody else as we come and we worship him [Music] please [Music] we bless you [Music] is [Music] [Music] place roy [Music] [Music] as we go [Music] place [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] [Music] as we go [Music] [Music] as we go to [Music] hallelujah we remain standing for the call to worship which comes to us from romans chapter 10 verse 11 through to verse 15. as scripture says anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame for there is no difference between jew and gentile the same lord is lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved how then can they call on the one they have not believed in and how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard and how can they hear without someone preaching to them and how can anyone preach unless they're saints as it is written how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news or opening him god of grace and god of glory [Music] me is [Music] is [Music] my children [Music] um is [Music] is [Applause] is [Music] me [Music] amen please be seated as we go to god in prayer as we bow before our lord and mika we remind ourselves wherever we are god is so dear god speak peace to our restless hearts fill our hearts with your glory god of creation the heavens declare your glory here on earth we live in all of your power your wisdom your authority we are forever mindful the world and all that is in it belong to you there is none like you none to compete with you none to replace you you are suffering only through you almighty god do we live and move and have our being our relationship with you or god and father gives joy to the heart and purpose to living your love and compassion are infinite and boundless extending to the vilest offenders god of healing and restoration as we rejoice in having you our lord and savior we are mindful that there are many too many who do not at your know you and know that your love is free and available to every member of the human family today dear god this mission sunday as we focus on the sacred assignment you give to us your servants assignment to seek out those who do not know you and to bring them the good news of salvation to serve by bringing comfort hope and healing to the broken in body and spirit to embrace the despised and lift up the fallen with contrite hearts lord we do confess in many ways far too many ways we have failed to live up to your expectation of us we confess lord too often we are reluctant to venture beyond the familia out of our comfort zone too often restricted by fear to offer lack commitment and passion for service always making vain excuses lord forgive us lord we seek pardon for the times we have strayed that our lives cannot stand up to the scrutiny of non-believers making it difficult for us to be trustworthy witnesses as we pray for pardon and mercy lord we beg you dear god to empower us and boldness revive and renew us alert our ears to listen to your calling give us hearts of obedience to respond with urgency to the call to faithful service and witness dear god be glorified today in our lives be present in the far reaches of the mission field where your servants toil so that your will be done in them and through them to win souls for your kingdom all this we pray in the name of your holy son our savior jesus christ amen we'll stand and sing christ for the world we sing [Music] oh refuge and strength and ever-present help in trouble therefore we will not fail though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their searching this there is a river whose streams make land the city of god the holy place where the most high dwells god is within her she will not fall god will help her at break of day nations are an uproar kingdoms fall he lifts his voice the earth melts the lord almighty is with us the god of jacob is our fortress come and see what the lord has done the desolations he has brought on the earth he makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth he breaks the bow and shatters the spear he burns the shields with fire he says be still and know that i am god i will be exalted among the nations i will be exalted in the earth the lord almighty is with us the god of jacob is our fortress what consolation please be seated a warm welcome to you my brothers and sisters friends all what a blessing what a privilege to share with you in worship today and your welcome is not confined to the few here in the sanctuary at calvary baptist church montego bay jamaica but it extends to everyone joining us via facebook and youtube i am mindful you could have chosen to tune elsewhere but you are here with us thank you it is our prayer your heart will be blessed and your faith strengthened as we spend time in the presence of almighty god we give god thanks for blessing this church with a dedicated and talented team dutifully ensuring we have music and multimedia i originally wanted to sing this song came to mind there's a piece in my soul when god is with me and that was able to calm me down and i am here this morning to spread the joy that the lord has every heart this morning we now take the scripture readings the old testament deuteronomy chapter 6 verse 1 through to verse 9 and from the new testament romans 12 verse 9 through to verse 21 deacon patricia harris will do the reading the scripture reading comes to us from deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 1 through to 9 and it reads these are the commands decrees and laws the lord your god directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the jordan to possess so that you so that your children and their children after them may fear the lord your god as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that i give you and so that you may enjoy long life here o israel and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey just as the lord the god of your fathers promised you hear o israel the lord our god the lord is one love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength these commandments that i give you today are to be upon your hearts impress them on your children talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road when you lie down and when you get up tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads verse 9 write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates the new testament reading romans 12 9-21 love must be hate what is evil cling to what is good be devoted to one another in brotherly love honor one another above yourselves never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual fervor serving the lord be joyful in hope patience in affliction faithful in prayer share with god's people who are in need practice hospitality bless those who persecute you bless and do not curse rejoice with those who rejoice mourn with those who mourn live in harmony with one another do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position do not be conceited not repay anyone evil for evil be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody if it is possible as far as it depends on you live at peace with everyone do not take revenge my friends but leave room for god's wrath for it is written it is mine to avenge i will repay says the lord on the contrary if your enemy is hungry feed him if he is thirsty give him something to drink in doing this you will keep burning coals on his head verse 21 do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good a portion of god's holy word amen after the hymn of meditation reverend francis will deliver the word we pray seated here o israel the lord is our god yes the lord alone over one god you shall love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might keep these words that i am commanding you today in your heart recite them let's pray reigning king we come to you o lord hollow in our hearts before you there is none like you o god we yield in your presence to praise you and to listen to your word even now speak to us oh god renew our hearts and our minds renew us in you and in your power oh god that as we yield ourselves to you we will be empowered to be used by you through jesus christ our lord we pray amen keep in faith with the word in an ever-changing world is our union's tenure theme and our sub theme for this morning a mission to god's word a mission to god's word be careful moses giving a summation of all that the the hebrews have been through on their journey up to the point where they were and sharing with them god's word and reminding them of the path that they were called to and where god was taking them moses reminded the children of god be careful of the world and its attractions be careful of the space where you are about to enter into be careful of the land that you are now pursuing it's a space that is not like where you were coming from you are coming from a place of slavery you have been you have been in the wilderness for upwards for for 40 years going around in circles in desert land but the place where god is now carrying you is a land flowing with milk and honey in other words a splay a space where where there are a lot a lot of attractions a place where there are a lot of reasons to go astray a place where you can forget god moses said to the children be careful don't let the world's attractions get you years ago when i was a member of the jonestown church i remember we had a booming youth department one of our young people i remember when we were in the in the 90s late 90s we had a youth department that had about 74 young people now you'd fellowship alone and over fought and about 43 of them were males so we had more males than females in our youth group we had a big spiritual move taking place in dronestown i remember though that one of the young men to whom we were witnessing and he started to come to church and he started to change his lifestyle over time he got a job he got training got a job and he was working and making a good living this young man was now preparing for baptism he was making a full change in his life somehow along the journey he of course still had his friends before church and he was hanging out on the corner one day afterward just came from work went in took off his work clothes put on him yard clothes and as he came out at the gate the young man was showing him a gun that he got he took the gun from him and he was looking at it and was close to the corner of the street some soldiers came around saw him with it and they killed him he never got a chance to be baptized nevertheless he was pursuing god when we make an intentional step to follow god and to walk with god one interesting thing is that the devil tries everything possible to pursue us we have to be careful when we are walking with god because so easy it is the temptations and the attractions of the world can get to us even easier than normal this young man i remember he he was really he had turned around his life and he was really on what we could call the right path except for that one mistake that cost him his life you know moses was warning the children of israel to be careful you are going into a space that is new and different a lot of things are in this space that you are not accustomed to but be careful let me raise some thoughts one keep them in your hearts concerning the word of god keep them in your heart hear o israel the lord is our god the lord alone our one god there is no doubt as to who god is and who the israelites or the hebrews were being called to surrender themselves totally to god was with them along the journey throughout the desert for 40 years god never left them in fact god was with them from they were in egypt he is the one who delivered them from the egyptian house of bondage you know listen look at what the text says the text says um here o israel to hear is a call to listen listen when we hear the term listen it indicates importance listen it indicates importance and it summons the listener or the hearers to pay special attention listen this is important pay attention pay attention to what i am about to say the lord alone is our god and there is none besides him god our creator he is the first cause god our sustainer and savior god has our best interest at heart all the time god is constantly pursuing his people he is constantly pursuing us so that we might be fully yielded and surrendered to him when god speaks we are open to the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge when god speaks we gather understanding and we are compelled or propelled to come to him to be fully surrendered and to listen to how this is beneficial to us in the new land moses stressed remain surrendered in the new land give your best to your god always friends this is a call not just for the hebrews but for us gathered here and for those of us here on social media when god is about to play transplant you to a new space a new space for you to grow and develop and to become a better person and a better christian we are reminded that we must never forget god on our journey yes don't let life's glimmer and bitters get to us don't be frightened by the starkling bright lights around but keep your heart in tune to god keep your heart in tune with god is what moses was pointing out to the children of israel he was reminding the hebrews that in the midst of their journey even when they become wealthy and they become prosperous in this new space that they were going they were being encouraged to remain faithful to god remain truth to god and keep their hearts fully surrendered to god friends it is a call for us that we too need to be fully surrendered to god that we need to keep our hearts true to god as we get our new jobs well start off as we get into college nobody else don't get into college and we get to college remain humble when we move from college and we get to our new job when we see the first paycheck and we say what this sweet man the truth is we are to remain humble and we are to constantly remember that god is the source of our existence and we should always remain firm in him yes even when the wealth start coming on even when we buy off with nice hoes sandwich with car and all the other things that we need when we're married and we settle down and all them other things never leave god out of our wall as a pilgrim we are to remain devoted to god no matter where we find ourselves no matter what possessions have we have gained over time we are to ensure that god is at the center of our lives we should deepen our spiritual walk with god constantly through prayer and the word we are called by almighty god as we struggle in this world because you know we have internal struggles even those persons among us who are wealthy even those persons who some people think have everything they could possibly want everyone in this world still have our struggles yes even when internal struggles are there and they are raging even when we constantly wrestle with with faith issues with with personal issues and with world issues when we are struggling day after day we are called to hold on to god in spite of do not become a thirst as thirsty as the land that you have been suddenly him which was what moses was saying to them he was saying that to them my brothers and sisters because the the the hebrews were walking in desert land dry land parched land difficult land and he was saying to them when you get to this new space where god is bringing you my sisters and brothers remain firm remain focused remain fervent and do not become as dry as the place is where you were no but god is sending you into a new space that is filled with all kinds of things to your nourishment physical nourishment and even mental intellectual nourishment but ensure that you nourish your spiritual man even through the process brothers and sisters we are called as we go through our own desert periods as we come from our own desert periods as we are established as we are promoted as we are pushed as we are driven as we are enticed never forget almighty god and never forget that jesus is the source of our living not only should they concern the word of god keep them in your hearts but secondly we should also keep them in your homes and that's interesting for us as we focus on missions as we focus on missions we we have to first understand that when our heart is at the place and point where we are surrendered to god then the next step is for us to get our homes surrendered to god yes you know i want to say look at what the text says the text says recite god's words to your children at home and faithfully nurture each generation with the word say say them to your children and to your children's children when you go out and when you come in right recite god's word to your god's words to your children at home and faithfully nurture each generation with the word moses knew he knew the dangers of not abiding in god's word yes the world is filled with temptations temptations that are subtle they hold you they entice you they hook you they pull you closer to them and i said look i'm iman you know i'm just like everybody else and everything is normal here until before long the world holds us and pulls us away from god but moses was insisting that the the hebrews when they occupy this new land this new prosperous land this new fruitful land this this food land that they have all been longing for after 40 years deserts and multiple years in in in bondage in egypt i'm saying look here man see to you that your households remain or receive salvation see to it that they receive salvation brothers and sisters we have to ensure that as we are nurtured in the world and we come to that place and that point where our lives are open to god and our hearts are fully surrendered to god that we minister to our households i want to extend the term households not just with those immediately living in the same uh house that we live in but also to those persons who are within our community our neighbors because they are often close to us that's all in fact neighbors are very much a part of our households right so we need to ensure that we minister the world to them too yes we have to ensure my brothers and sisters that within our homes god's word takes preeminence we have to ensure that within our homes that god has first space that god has all space that god occupies every single nook and cranny believers are expected to to minister to their homes to their home communities our families our friends our neighbors those persons whom we encounter on a daily basis invite the unchurched to church you see there was a time when we could complain about about not able to go to church some people say put me on a church clues but i would say to them what is called church clothes you know i mean this is something that people make up culturally you know come as you are but now in the social strong social media area nobody can say that why past mccann come at church coming on a close forward amen out of no shoes or some other vegan thing the truth is that the fact that we are all online now which i see as a good thing because this pandemic recognizes it forces the church to be mission centered in every way shape and form and and we have a wider audience now people are now bombarded with churches with church programs and and worship and all bible study and all that we have a greater opportunity to reach the loss friends invite your brothers and sisters to online church invite them to church share the word of god with them what's up is a big thing now and what's up free go on what's up and share the word of god my brothers and sisters with those who are around you right god has placed that church in every home now the church began in homes you know we thought you are cumulus you know host church that's how church has begun and and and and i see in a period now where churches have returned to the homes so so so for me persons who would not normally come out to like bible study and them kind of things when when when their when their wives or their mothers also have they have the computer on and they are at bible study they are now at bible study so bible study has grown significantly such as many other ministries my brothers and sisters the truth is in a time when people are fearful fearful about the crime and the violence happening around and pardon a long goat and nighttime and some persons constantly live their lives out in fear we have online services we have online church events that we can partake of and begin the process of being emboldened by the spirit friends tell people when how do we minister in our homes the way we minister is not just by going out and regurgitating scripture telling people by the scripture and leaving it there no tell people how the scriptures that you are caught in have influenced and affected your life god is a healer yeah when moses got a healer how has god healed you that is what we need to share we need to constantly be god's weaknesses wherever we are let our children know that look here mummy and daddy was not always like this you know there was once a time when why we used to live by the bad life but because of god god has brought us to this point do not be afraid to let our children know that we were not always who we currently are or who they think we are that we have of challenges and struggles and we constantly wrestle day after day with issues in other words let them know that we are humans and that they can relate to us don't let them see us as some super spiritual out there people who have no divine connection to them thirdly i'm concerning god's word keep them when you are not here and that's important you know that's important keeping the word of god when we are not at home not here because believers are expected to talk about god's word when we are away from home it is something that many persons don't want to do and they don't want to engage in when they are not at home are in their spiritual spirits some people don't want a body most of them belong to god some people don't want anybody to know at that time that they are a god man or a god woman a god woman the truth is that you know out there oh there in the world in the world the world itself is a space that is large that has a lot of pretty light that is dazzling and it can be a frightening place yes a place filled with dangers and filled with extreme extreme activities extreme thinking thoughts extreme behaviors the world is a space my brothers and sisters that we sometimes have to ensure that we guard ourselves against always guard ourselves against how we do that we guide ourselves against the world and its influences by carrying god's word with us everywhere we are every step of the way yes share your story when we go to the word it says that we are to share god's word we are to carry god's word with us everywhere we are share how good god has been to us when we are out there in the world share the many things that god has delivered us from i know that god is a healer how i know that god's a healer because in my formative years between ages 2 and 4 i was healed from a lot of things i was healed from a severe ear infection that constantly gave me a constant ringing in my ears god delivered me from that my left foot was my right foot was slightly turned and it constantly pained and god delivered me from that there was a whole list of things where they rang with me until i came in contact with god and god delivered me from every single one of them there the same god who delivered me is the same god who will deliver you god will deliver you because of god's love for you my brothers and sisters the believer is therefore called to be the embodiment of jesus christ to this world so we constantly walk with him we walk with him to share him with every single soul we come in contact with yes baptized by the holy spirit we are already empowered we are empowered by the spirit to serve the kingdom of god you know what the devoted believer and every believer ought to be devoted so believers or the faithful being devoted we constantly walk with jesus every single day how we walk with him we walk with him every day through our purrs we pray to him we pray to him for ourselves for for forgiveness for healing for deliverance but we also pray for our neighbors those around us we pray even for those whom we see on soul on the news sometimes and we don't even know them but we know what is taking place at other parts of the world we still pray for them we not only pray for them but we constantly read god's word we read god's word so that we will grow in the knowledge of understanding god more and as we pray to jesus daily and as we read god's word and as we spend time singing and and worshipping god in whatever way shape and form you know what happens we will grow in our relationship with him as we grow in our relationship with him we will be more encouraged to do more things to take care of the mission of god in the world if you are a good cook and cooking is the gift that you have when you're cooked all personal cookies there may be somebody somewhere you know them who not have no food and never down the road and never cross the fence send us a plate to the man you know as we as we leave our homes daily we we don't leave jesus behind we are expected to carry him the bible talks about us um putting the word of god on the lintel and the doorposts right and and sharing the word of god in our homes and also when you go away you must carry the word of god because the constant seeing of the word of god on your lintel on your doorpost and constantly sharing the word of god in your homes it will help you to want to share god's word to everyone you meet when you're on your journey outside there in the world friends it is not a difficult thing for us to tell people the good things that god has been doing for us it is not difficult for us to just let go with a couple of phones that we call people and we said we're nearby man you're irreguan by you know here we go one over so last night tell them about jesus tell them oh jesus same way tell them that look here man well you know someone ever that feels so good fair like a while but why why my god doctor treatment and so on guess what god has delivered me brothers and sisters do not fail to testify even though we may not be able to go out and do our street evangelism the way how we used to sharing one-on-one with people in their community walking with them being there with them we can still use the phone and share we can still use social media in the different groups that we are and share god's word why jesus calls the faithful to love him yeah and when once we love jesus we will do everything in our in our in our we will do once we love jesus we will do every possible thing in our ability to show him how much we love him and how do we do that we do that by sharing the word of god share it over what's up and social media inviting our brothers and sisters to church by allowing god to use us to pray for persons around us when our unchurched neighbors are sick let them do them call for the christian next door that's all yes man they call for the christian next door they'll say well sister harris may not feel so good come pray for me you understand me because they know that we are already connected to the source brothers and sisters in this new land the new land that we are about to occupy the new land that we are being propelled to in this new land where we are working where we are living where we are expected to serve in the marketplace do not forget god don't forget him it's easy for us to forget god when we have all the money flowing it's easy for us to forget god when everything is good with our health etc but don't forget god keep god in your heart all the time as you keep him in your heart and he grows within your heart share him in your homes tell people about his goodness as you share him in the homes when you go out on your far business trips in your hotel room lock up and nobody at all is there are you gone overseas wherever it is that you are and nobody there knows you don't forget god don't forget god don't say why nobody on a normal mind something get right now no don't forget god you know why because no matter what god loves us and god will always be there for us no matter what so as we are on a journey in this land a land where we some of us are about to occupy and we don't know what is there awaiting us let us trust god that no matter what he will be there with us he will be they are carrying us and sustaining us but also that no matter what happens no matter what are the blessings that we get on the journey we will not forget god amen [Applause] the hymn guides me o to our great jehovah [Music] oh is this moment you may be struggling with your own sense of call you may be struggling with with what god has been calling you to to do and who god is calling you to be i want you to just take a leap of faith right now this morning and to surrender yourself to god so that and trust god that god will be able god who created you and has been sustaining you will constantly be there with you no matter what let's pray living god we come to you thanking and praising you for your work in and through creation that creation constantly relies on your help and trusting in you we are significantly protected and provided for we come to you jesus because we know that not even the grave was able to hold you bound that even when your enemies put you to death that lord three days thereafter you arose from the grave yes lord not even the grave could keep you down jesus our king and lord whom not even the grave could subdue replace those who are listening and those who are watching now on social media we pray though for those who are here for all those o god who are experiencing their own desert-like challenges now oh god that god you will enter their lives and deliver jesus our healer we come to you depending on you because we know that you have a habit of restoring to good all those who are ill and struggling with sickness god we come to you knowing lord that there are many challenges that we have but nonetheless we come depending on you that you will restore us to good health that lord jesus there is absolutely none like you but god and god we know that we can depend on you no matter what some of us are dry as christians oh god but even now nourish us with a refreshing from of the holy spirit refresh us with your word refresh us as we offer power and praise to you refresh us oh god refresh us lord that as we come to you and as we open ourselves to you that god we will constantly honor you and glorify you with our lives and our beings that god you will be at the center of our lives and that no matter what lord jesus we can always give you praise jesus thank you for how you have been caring for us in the midst of this pandemic oh god thank you for protecting chela morris of class 11 who has passed away date for sister scheller's funeral service will be announced at a later date to the family and friends of sister lovren russell of class 10 was passed away the date for sister laverne's funeral is not yet finalized condolence to system military samuels and family on the death of her brother and to brother roberto foster and family on the death of his maternal grandmother kindly note also brother christian carr of class 10 will be laid to rest on thursday september 30 at 11 am at the hillview memorial park as a church family it is our duty to
