big in our family and it is especially big this year many of you have prayed with our family and known what we've been going through over these past several months as my father has been battling stomach cancer just over a month ago on july first he went in for two major surgeries he was there for eight hours of surgery and we thank god that they were able to remove all of the cancer he is cancer-free to the glory of god he is here and we thank god for life and i thank god for my mother who's been with him every step of the way they are truly god sends to this world and i'm grateful for them all right let's jump right into the word today the word of the lord for this morning's dialogue and discourse is found in the book of first samuel first samuel chapter 30. that's my nephew in the back he thinks he's the guest preacher today so don't he's going to preach with me so don't worry about that first samuel chapter number 30. a very familiar passage of scripture we will look at verses 1 through 8 and then i would invite your attention to verses 17 through 19. when you have it signify by saying i've got it reading from the english standard version the word of the lord reads like this it says now when david and his men came to ziklag on the third day the amalekites had made a raid against the negeb and against ziklag they had overcome ziklag and burned it with fire and taken captive the women and all who were in it both small and great they killed no one but carried them off and went their way and when david and his men came to the city they found it burned with fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive then david and the people who were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more strength to weep david's two wives also had been taken captive a hinom of jezreel and abigail the widow of nabal of carmel and david was greatly distressed for the people spoke of stoning him because all the people were bitter and soul each for his sons and daughters but david strengthened himself in the lord his god and david said to abiatha the priest the son of a himalaya bring me the ephod so abiathar brought the ephod to david and david inquired of the lord shall i pursue after this ban shall i overtake them god answered him pursue for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue the king james says recover all verses 17 through 19 says and david struck them down from twilight until the evening of the next day and not a man of them escaped except 400 young men who mounted camels and fled david recovered all that the amalekites had taken and david rescued his two wives nothing was missing neither small or great sons or daughter spoil or anything that had been taken david recovered all my brothers and sisters for the next few moments as the spiritual guide i'd like to put a tag on this text and preach from the subject i'm in recovery let the church say i'm in recovery those who are watching us online you're streaming type it in the comments i'm in recovery i believe that i'm not the only one sitting here or worshiping online who can attest or testify to the fact that the past year and a half for these past 16 to 18 months many of us have experienced what can be uh noted as a season marked by pain and loss and it seems like while we've been the world has been engulfed in the throes of this global pandemic that at the same time many of us have been experiencing our own personal pandemics we've lost so many things over the past year and a half some of us have lost loved ones some of us have lost income some of us have lost opportunities and some of us are wondering how can i recover from everything that i have lost the word recovery it suggests that something has been lost and needs to be recovered recovery means a return to a normal state of health mind or strength another definition of recovery is the action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost i don't know about you but i'm declaring over my life and over my family today i'm in recovery in our text david and his men are forced into recovery mode because they have lost the most important things in their lives their families this reminds us sisters and brothers that the most important things in life are not things at all they're the people the relationships and connections that god has blessed our lives with here it is the bible says that when david and his men came home and found that their families were gone the text says they cried until they had no more strength to weep i wonder is there anybody here who knows what it feels like to cry yourself to sleep to cry so much that you don't have any strength to do anything else anybody ever had a situation where you cried yourself so much that you didn't even have strength to get up and do anything after you cried they wept until they had no more strength to weep so at this point david and his men had to shift into recovery mode but before we can discuss what they did in their recovery process and what happened to them we must first uh identify and look at where it happened the bible says that that that in this case that that where it happened was in a city named ziklag ziklag means winding it's a winding road zig lag is where life takes an unexpected turn ziklag is where things seem to have been going smoothly and straightly and somehow some way out of nowhere life has a way of turning on you anybody ever had life to take an unexpected turn uh that it seems like everything was going well everything was hunky-dory that you were doing well you were easing on down the road and somehow some way life took a turn on you and every one thing if if it was just one turn but ziklag is winding it means it's a series of turns that that that if it ain't one thing it's another that when it rains it pours somebody's been at sick like ziklag is where uh we experience emotional whiplash because things are shifting and changing so quickly sick lag is where life starts to zigzag on you that when you think you're going one way it shifts and you're turning i want to know is there anybody that's been at sick life and it would be bad enough if all you had to deal with at ziklag was the term but the text tells us that ziklag is not only the place where life turns but ziklag is the place where stuff starts to burn tex says that when david and his men arrived at ziklag they saw that the amalekites had attacked and burned the city with fire ziklag is where it feels like your life is going up in flames sick lag is where it seems like things are turning and things are burning all at the same time anybody knows what it feels like to be that ziklag now the reality is that david should have never been in ziklag in the first place where zick like ziklag was a gift given to david by the philistine king achish of gath if you remember the name gathgath is the hometown of goliath goliath of gath so here it is david is now living in the city in the town in the country that was the hometown of his greatest enemy that he has now become comfortable living behind enemy lines david is now absconded to the philistines he has been chased out of israel by king saul and now he's in unfamiliar territory but the problem is he's become comfortable in unfamiliar territory the bible says he was there for a year and four months nearly a year and a half david had been living in ziklag behind philistine army in his behind enemy lines and he had become comfortable living in a place he was designed to have victory and sometimes we've got to recognize that we cannot become comfortable in a place that god called us to conquer we cannot be comfortable in a place where we're supposed to conquer i don't know who i'm preaching to right now but god says you can't get comfortable where i told you to conquer he he is the anointed king the next king of israel but he's living behind enemy lines comfortable for a year and a half in an unfamiliar place and some of us may not be able to identify with david living behind enemy lines but but the truth of the matter is that for the past year and a half we've been in an unfamiliar place i don't recognize this world i don't recognize this life nothing seems to be the same they keep telling me there's a new normal we can't even go to church like we used to we can't do the things that we used to somebody say it's unfamiliar territory he was in unfamiliar territory and it's while he was out of position that the enemy attacked his home it was while he was someplace he shouldn't have been in the first place that he experienced his greatest attack david was out of position and the enemy came in to attack him in fact when the amalekites attacked ziklag not only was david out of position living in a place that he should not have been but he was doing something he should not have been doing for the text tells us that he was preparing to fight with the philistine army against the israelites he had signed up him and the 600 men were ready to fight in the philistine army getting ready to fight against his home country and it was the lords of the philistines who rejected david and told him we don't need you to join our army because while we're fighting you may turn around and start fighting us so we don't want you in our army david was rejected by his enemies and i've come to tell somebody that sometimes we need to learn that mind's rejection is sometimes god's protection because god is protecting us from something we can't see i don't know who i'm talking to but there may be folk that didn't invite you to the party they may have left you off of the email list they didn't think you were worthy to come to where they were but i want you to encourage yourself and say god allowed them to reject me because he wanted to protect me and he's got something better for me i wish somebody would praise god right now i know you shout for your house i know you shout for your car but can you thank god for the people who rejected you the folk who told you no the folk who left you behind because their rejection was god's protection [Applause] what do i mean their rejection was god's protection because if david had gone through alvin if david had gone through to fight with the philistines against the israelites he would have damaged his destiny and would have never been ever received as king over israel if he had fought against israel so somebody needs to know that god will allow you to only go but so far that's why you couldn't go all the way that's why you couldn't mess all the way up it's because god was protecting you because he knew there was something great in your future and he couldn't allow you to mess it up in your past so he had to allow situations to happen because he's protecting your destiny david was rejected by the philistines but that rejection left the door open to his destiny he if he had fought he'd never become king so the philistine army fired david and his 600 men from their army david comes home they're tired they're frustrated they're upset now that they're unemployed and they don't have any any uh of things uh to say what they're gonna do next ever been in a place where you didn't know what was gonna happen next such disappointment such situations that they were dealing with they come home hoping to get a home-cooked meal hoping to find the smiling faces of their wives and their children hoping to find the comfort of laying in their own bed and as they're walking up to zick like they had been walking for three days and where they were fighting up in the north was 75 miles from ziklag in the south so for three days they marched 25 miles a day trying to make it home and when they get home they look afar off and they see plumes of black smoke pouring forth from their homes pouring from their city they know that this is not just a barbecue or a cookout this is not just a bonfire but the enemy has attacked their home and burned it to the ground and they are now in a situation where their life is turned upside down it's at this point the david has to shift into recovery mode david teaches us in this text that when life starts to turn and when things start to burn we've got to shift into recovery mode let the church say let the church type i'm in recovery there are three things that this text that david teaches us in this text that we must do in order to shift into recovery mode and ultimately to recover all the first thing is found in verse number six of the text the bible says in verse six that david was greatly distressed for the people spoke of stoning him because all the people were bitter in soul each for his sons and daughters but david strengthened himself in the lord his god the first thing sisters and brothers we must do in order to recover all in order to shift into recovery mode number one is we must strengthen ourselves let the church say let the church type strengthen david had lost everything he was the text says greatly distressed the people were distressed but david was greatly distressed because leaders grieve on a whole different level that when the weight of responsibility for decisions is on your head and on your shoulders it makes it more difficult when things don't go right david was greatly distressed and his life was now in danger because they were talking about stoning him but david's response was to strengthen himself in the lord his god the king james says he encouraged himself coke pastor said it during a prayer sometimes you got to do it by yourself sometimes you got to encourage yourself nobody is going to pat you on the back there's some people who are not going to give you a call no one's going to be dropped you're not going to drop your name in their in their spirit but sometimes we got to learn how to go to god for ourselves father i stretch my hands to thee there is no other help i know if thou withdraw thyself from me whether shall i go anybody knows what it feels like to have to go to god for yourself that there's some things you can't call anybody about there's some things you can't text anybody about some things you can't put on social media hallelujah thank you jesus let me say that again some things you can't put on social media because you're putting all your business out in the street but we have to learn how to haul things together and say listen my brothers and sisters i'm gonna strengthen myself i don't have a prayer partner i don't have a prayer team i don't have a prayer covering but i wish you would slap yourself a high five and say i'm going to strengthen myself how did david strengthen himself the text says he strengthened himself in the lord david understood that if he was going to gain strength he needed to go to the source that word strengthened uh in the original hebrew is a word called shazak c-h-a-z-a-q and it literally means to restore to full strength it reminds us of plugging our dying cell phone into the wall to the outlet in order for it to be restored back to full strength and if we are in a situation that we're in recovery mode we've lost some things just like david we've got to plug into the source we've got to go to the one who was able to replenish and restore our strength david encouraged himself strengthened himself in the lord he strengthened himself in the lord the bible says that he called for abi afar the priest and i asked the priest to bring a linen ephod and david inquired of the lord shall i pursue shall i go after this thing shall i overtake it shall i come and get what i what the devil has stolen from me david inquired of the lord strengthening ourselves it also involves us going to the lord that when we plug in we've got to ask him some questions we've got to do like the old things used to do have a little talk with jesus tell him all about your troubles he will hear your faintest cry and he will answer by and by feel a little prayer wheel turning know that the fire is burning just a little talk with jesus will make it right he inquired of the lord and as david inquired of the lord the bible says that god gives him a response he says pursue for you shall surely recover some of it all right you can have half of it back i'ma give you some and call me in the morning i'mma give you a down payment today and i'm gonna make monthly payments on it how many know god don't do nothing on credit when god pays you he pays full price and then stuff somebody shout oh you shall recover oh before david pursued david prayed sisters and brothers don't pursue what you haven't prayed for don't pursue until you pray but but but i love him he makes me feel good baby don't pursue until you pray but but i love her she fine like a bottle of wine don't pursue until you prayed david did not take one step until he asked god first remember these men were so weak they had already cried all of their strength out and before david could pursue what he had lost before he could recover his stuff he needed to restore his strength he strengthened himself in the lord but not only my brothers and sisters must we strengthen ourselves if we're going to recover all but secondly we must stretch ourselves let the church say let the church type stretch i'm still in the book verses 9 and 10 the bible tells us that david and his men begin to pursue david set out on the 600 men who were with him and they came to the brook besor where those who were left behind stayed but david pursued he and 400 men 200 stayed behind who were too exhausted to cross the brook of be sore i picture this david and his men were now physically and emotionally tired they had already been marching for three days for 75 miles to get home only to be disappointed and distressed by what they found but when god gives us a command to pursue we often have to stretch ourselves to possess what god promised it's not that god is going to tell us pursue and then automatically blessings are going to start dropping into our lives no it's not that god's going to call us to pursue and we don't have to do anything to stretch beyond our own limitations to get what god has promised us but how many know we've got to participate in the process that god will require us to add some works to our faith that if you're going to pray about it you better be mine or woman enough to run after it to stretch yourself beyond your own limitations to say god i've run out i've met my own extremity but god i know that you promised to do exceeding and abundantly above all that i can ask or think according to the power that is at work in me is there anybody here that knows that every now and then you've got to stretch yourself in order to get what god promised you david said i'm tired i'm frustrated these folk just was talking about stoning me but i know what i would god promised me i know what i need to get and i'm not gonna let anything or anybody stop me from getting what god promised i'm gonna stretch he had to stretch himself beyond his physical and emotional limitations in order to get what god promised him sometimes when we stretch ourselves we must realize that not everybody around us can stretch with us that the text says the david had 600 men but when they got to the brook besor 200 of his men a third of his army couldn't stretch with him they had reached beyond their point of limitation and the text says that david had to leave 200 men behind at the brook of be sore but guess what that's okay david didn't judge them david didn't say something's wrong with y'all david didn't say why you can't keep going no david understood a powerful principle that sometimes we all need to rest so so let me be very clear that just because these 200 men stayed behind that doesn't mean that they didn't have value that they didn't they didn't have worth in fact they were the ones who stayed and prayed they were the ones who protected the the provisions to allow the other men to go forward and see there are some people in your life that will be out front and fighting they'll be the ones with the mics in their hands they'll be the ones up on the stage but they ain't the only ones that's got power believe me there's some folks sitting in the back that know how to get a prayer through there's some folk that know how to touch heaven that why are you up here praying while you're up here preaching and singing i'm back there praying and you are only allowed to do what you do because i'm doing what i do anybody thank god for the folk who stay behind to pray they made it they had to be left behind bishop at the brook be sore i believe it sometimes because sometimes you just be sore i'm sorry you get north of 40 like i do sometimes you just wake up and these knees just don't work like they used to sometimes you just be sore don't know be no reason i wake up sometimes i say what's wrong i got a case of the o.l.d some of y'all catch it later oh it just it just hits you dwight every now and then sometimes you just be sore and you can't do what you used to do i was having a conversation with my cousin last night he and i both were basketball players in our younger days and uh we both uh have experienced certain injuries because we didn't know uh that we couldn't stretch ourselves so far so we tried to stretch beyond our limitations and and and i tore up my knee he tore his acl and we're just comparing wounded stories and he says to me says my doctor told me that we see this often he said what happens is there are people like you who were athletes in your high school days that now you think you can still do what you used to do and you go out there at the ymca running with these young boys who jumping and dunking and doing all this stuff and next thing you know you in my office talking about daca i don't know what happened what happened is you needed to stay by the brook besor and no you can only stretch so far because god hears it god wants you to stretch but god doesn't want you to break and we have to know our own limitations somebody say we got to stretch stretch stretch part of the stretch also means that we've got to stretch our resources to be a blessing to somebody else because an oft overlooked part of this story is the bible says that while david and his men were pursuing they ran into an egyptian a homeless egyptian man in the field and instead of just passing him by and saying ah we got to go get our stuff the bible says that they stopped and they gave this man food and water they fed him they nourished him they strengthened him because when you strengthen yourself god then calls you to strengthen somebody else he they stopped and they they blessed this man and guess what because they stopped and blessed this seemingly homeless man out in the middle of the wilderness by himself it just so happened that the egyptian was one of the servants of the amalekites who had himself been left behind and now because david stopped to bless him that man told him let me show you where the amalekites are let me show you where your stuff is let me tell you how you can get back what the enemy stole from you can i pause parenthetically right here and let you know that it is when you stop to bless somebody else that god will release your blessing there is a blessing in the stretching and if you won't stretch you won't be blessed david was tired himself david was hungry himself but he still stopped and stretched to bless somebody else somebody say you got the stretch he stretched himself he didn't have the numbers for the victory he had lost a third of his army but david understood that even though the numbers didn't make sense i'm a stretch to make it work some of us don't have to look at david's story to understand that principle because every time we look at our balance in our bank account we realize that the numbers don't work but somehow god allows us to that all i have needed thy hands have provided great is thy faithfulness lord unto me he stretched that if we're going to recover all and honey that not only must we strengthen ourselves and not only must we stretch ourselves but finally we'll then be able to spoil ourselves i'm i'm i'm still in the book join me at verse number 20 and i'm gonna be on my way verse number 20 it says david also captured all the flocks and herds and the people drove the livestock before him and said this is david's spoil after david uh strengthened himself and after david stretched himself he was able to attack the amalekites and they were able to recover all the text says in verse 19 that nothing was missing whether small or great sons or daughters spoil or anything that had been taken david recovered oh in other words not only did david get back the things that he lost but david also got the things that the amalekites stole from other people that david was able to end this one victory uh get countless in this one fight he was able to get countless victories because the amalekites were raiders the text says that they raided the entire south and the negab and ziklag that means they had spoiled from all of those other towns and when david fought the amalekites to get back his stuff and his family he was able to recover not only his stuff but he was able to get double for his trouble i know we can't do it because of covet protocol but can you slap your neighbor an air high five and say neighbor i'm getting ready to spoil myself in other words god's about to spoil me for everything i've had to endure i've had to go through all kinds of things in ziklag life's been taking twists and turns uh stuff has been burning all around but god's about to spoil me i wish you would type it in the comments that i'm about to spoil myself that god's about to do exceeding and abundantly that everything that i've been through he's about to pay me back tell your neighbor payback is coming you cried your last tear you have to go through what you've been through for the last time that this enemy that you've seen today you will see them no more i'm getting happy up here right now because i began to think of all the stuff i lost in my last season and now i'm praising god for everything i'm about to get in my next season i wish you would open your spiritual eyes and begin to see what god's about to do in your next season and if you believe that god is about to spoil you he's going to spoil you for all of your toil you're going to get spoiled for your toil if you believe it shout yes shout yes open your mouth and give god a praise for the smiles [Music] and guess what when it's time for you to spoil yourself you won't have to spoil yourself by yourself because the text says co-pastor that the people said this is david spoil the people said it hold on wait what people who were the people that said this is david spoil the people were the same people who in verse six was talking about stoning him can i help somebody that when god shifts your season and you start to recover the same people that try to stone you will have to spoil you that god will use the same people that hurt you last year to bless you this year that's why you don't need to hate on your enemies that's why you don't need to fight your enemies or just hold your peace and let the lord fight your battles and victory and the spoil shall be yours i wish you would shout right now and thank god for the people that tried to stone you because they getting ready to spoil you [Music] i want you to put your own name in there they said this is david spoil i want you to shout it and put your own name in there this is tejado spoil this is together spoiled [Music] god god's about to spoil you and he's gonna use the same people who tried to stone you here's the key that after we strengthen ourselves and after we stretch ourselves and after we spoil ourselves we can't afford to be selfish because once god spoils you you've got to share the spoil let me say this way after you recover all you've got to share the spoil after you recover all you've got to share the spoil in fact that's what david does he see that i'm almost done david goes back to the brook besor he finds the 200 men that he had left behind and david while the other man said don't give them nothing just get him their wife and their children and let them go on their way david said i'm from the islands we say cheering that's what we say they say well give them their wife and their children and let them go on their way david said no no no no the men who stayed and prayed are going to get the same blessing as the one who went and fought and he made it an ordinance a law in israel that the people who stayed back to protect the provisions would get the same spoil of the people who went forward to fight and david shared the spoil but he didn't only share the spoil with those 200 men because if you read down to the close of chapter number 30 the bible says that david sent spoil to all of the elders of israel he went to the leaders and he said here's some spoil that i got from the amalekites he says i'm not going to keep all the spoil to myself but i'm i'm going to bless other people and he blessed holi he blessed the elders the leaders of israel because david understood a powerful principle that you got the soul where you want to go that you've got to give on the level you want to live and david sowed into the lies of those elders and guess what it was those same elders who later turned around and had to lay hands on david and anoint him to be the next king because if we sow where we want to go god will allow us to get where he promised us i just wish somebody would say i'm sharing my spoil [Music] he sold where he wanted to go and god blessed david because david wasn't selfish after he recovered all everyone standing i'm about to pray i just feel this in my spirit that there's some of us who like david knows what it feels like to live in ziklag it wasn't my first choice to be fair to david ziklag wasn't where he wanted to end up in fact he never thought he would end up there when he was a teenager he was anointed to be the next king of israel he had promise things were going well david experienced success in his early years he fought a whole giant and prevailed they sang songs about david saul has killed his thousands but david ten thousands david was probably voted most likely to succeed in high school got the job he wanted straight out of college in fact david was working in the field with the sheep and got a job working in the palace for the king he was in there playing things were going great david probably thought wow this is how i'm gonna get to be king i'm already in the palace can't get any better than this but david didn't understand that sometimes god takes us on a circuitous route to bless us david had to lose everything in order to realize god was all he needed perhaps david was chasing the throne perhaps he was star struck and and wanted to be king sooner than he ought to have been but david had to go through his experience at ziklag he had to face some winding roads to make him say you know what i've got to strengthen myself not in david but in the lord and when he strengthened himself when he stretched himself god allowed him to spoil himself and the true test of leadership is what do you do when god blesses you he blessed other people and i don't know where you are in your life right now you may be in zig lag right now life may be twisting and turning but today gods have come to shift you into recovery mode we've been declaring this in my family your season has shifted your story has changed you're in recovery mode now lift your hands all over this building father i thank you for these your sons and your daughters god there are many of us who are gathered in the sanctuary and those who are watching online who can identify with david being at ziklag but life has turned on us life has burned on us we've lost some things over these past 18 months but god we declare by faith that we will recover all not some of it but all of it and god not only will we recover what we've lost but because we've been faithful god you'll give us even things we didn't have to fight for we thank you lord that as we strengthen ourselves and stretch ourselves and spoil ourselves that you'll open the windows of heaven and pour us out blessings that we don't even have room enough to receive and lord we promise that when we recover all we will share the spoil we'll bless those who prayed for us along the way we'll bless those who hold the key to our next level of living we will sow on the level where we want to go we will give where we want to live and we know god that you will promote us and take us where you desire and design for us to be it is in the mighty the matchless and the majestic name of our lord and savior jesus the christ we pray and all the people of god shout i'm in recovery god bless you calvary love you praise the lord everybody can we bless god for the word can we bless god for the word and can we bless god for his ability to confirm the word anybody remember two weeks ago when our guest preacher preached from the exact same sex go get it go get it because we're in recovery mode god is not a man that he can lie nor the son of man that he will ever need to repent if he said it that settles it and i am a believer that not only are we going to recover but we're going to recover all of it our church gonna recover our family is gonna recover our bodies gonna recover our kids gonna recover our finances gonna recover restoration has finally come and he who the sun sets free he who the sun sets free is free indeed so we thank him and we praise him we bless them and we love him we adore him and we lift him up we magnify him and we bless him bless the wonderful name of jesus the christ who is our god our shepherd and he will never lead us astray god is good y'all god is good many didn't make it but i'm so glad then i when i was at b-store i'm so glad that i strengthened myself and i stretched myself he sworn me and now it's sowing time in the house and we can now share our spoil with others thank you bishop hansel for allowing god to use you to bless us on today thank you sir amen god is good y'all right he's so good it is now time for our ministry of giving what an awesome time to so what an awesome time to give what an awesome time to honor god in this way here at great amount calorie we give in three areas one we give to god we do that by way of tithe ten percent of our earnings ten percent of our income belong to god so we trust god with our finances so many of us trust god with everything else we trust him with our livelihood we trust him with better and more but when it comes to our financial security and stability we don't readily trust god but this is one of the ways that we can prove him and see won't he open up the windows of heaven and pour our blessings that we don't have room to receive so when we give to god then we give to the gift of god by way of our senior pastor can we thank god for good leadership our senior pastor is not on salary many of us we go to work or we log on now look we log in for work and at the end of the week we count up our 40 hours and every two weeks every month however your income comes in you expect a return on your labor and so our senior pastor works more than 40 hours a week because he does hospital visits and receives phone calls and he's married some of us and bury some of our loved ones and he's been there for us in our most important times of need and our most difficult times of need and so we we we love our bishop because he depends on god that the people of god will see to it that his needs are met and so he's been doing this for years now and god has not failed you bishop god has sustained you and so the people of god have ensured that and lastly we sow generously so we sow seed so that whatever need comes into our life god can bless us and god can allow us to be a blessing to others by way of sharing us for you he spoils us the blessings of the lord make us rich and add of no sorrow so we so generously every opportunity and chance we get there are ways to give on the screen if you're with us in our physical sanctuary our in-person audience you are more than welcome to give electronically but if you see fit to come on down our trustees are here really willing and able to serve you let's look to the lord now lord you're good thank you and we praise you for opportunity to give we ask oh god that you will bless the seed that we sow on today would you multiply it some 30 60 100 fold let no need come into our lives that you won't meet and when you meet them remind us it's because of the seeds that we've sown on this day that you have decided to bless us and bless us more abundantly it's in jesus mighty name that we pray and everybody say amen come on from wherever you are make sure that we're practicing and observing our social distancing [Music] [Music] everybody says [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] is everybody [Music] last last [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] midnight is [Music] haven't been able to see in a year and equally as important i want to protect my family protect my patients and protect my neighbors and community i trust this vaccine and the science behind it and i encourage you to get the vaccine when it becomes available to you some of you may have questions about it and that's understandable i encourage you to discuss the benefits with your primary care provider who knows you and your medical history well studies have shown that racial and ethnic minority groups are disproportionately affected by the virus if you're a part of these groups it is crucial that you talk with your trusted health care provider and learn the facts so that you can make the best decision for you and your family as we continue to administer vaccines in our community i encourage you to get the vaccine when it becomes available to you that's it for this week calvary stay encouraged stay safe stay blessed until next week amen can we put our hands together for calorie news our senior pastor is coming at this time and while he comes let me be the first to say as executive pastor of this local church i want to celebrate all of you that served so diligently and so faithfully this past week during our international holy convocation you know i always counted the honor and a privilege to serve with you but everybody from our staff church staff to all of the ministry leaders and volunteers your service never goes unnoticed and thank you so much for how you first represent god and then how you represent our pastors how you represent our ministry and how you represent yourself so can we put our hands together for all of those that served and served so well this past week bishop [Music] amen i could not pass the crystal but let me thank you first because this is it seems like i've been in charge of convocation forever but this is the first year that all i had to do was show up [Music] [Applause] the stress that comes with convocation i felt none of it that's because of how organized this local church was prepared to serve and a lot of that is because of your leadership can we celebrate our executive place [Music] and and i oh i didn't know so many of you were here oh thank you so much you look wonderful to me wonderful i could not let the service in without celebrating that great word this morning [Music] god always gives you a witness and the witness today [Music] started with the exact same text that pastor john jenkins gave us on the second sunday i know you didn't know that and because i know you had you known that you would have chosen another text but god wanted to confirm to us let's celebrate the preacher one more time so so you know most of you know now that i'll be walking with pastor jenkins in the morning around seven o'clock and um sometimes he tunes into our service but just in case he didn't tune in this morning i would tell him that god sent us another witness amen i wanted to take a another minute susie could you give me a minute is that susie okay come in a minute she said what huh and let your parents come with you [Music] [Music] joseph and his wife gladys came to our country from nigeria 20 years ago this year [Music] this month and um to make a long story short um they married in africa and for their honeymoon trip they had a desire to come for some reason to washington dc [Music] god made arrangements with their visas and so forth and they didn't know what church to even look for and joseph you can correct me if i'm wrong i'm trying to tell the story as i remember it and their backgrounds pentecostal and they were looking online with all the churches in d.c just going through and they came across greater mount calvary holy church just looking at churches there were so many of them and they ended up coming here and joseph said the first sunday they came he said to his wife this is our church 20 years and he started off as a volunteer and now he's on full staff in our accounting apart our accounting department and he assists me in so many areas this is their oldest daughter this is susie then they have their son alfred they didn't know any better then there's don't tell me this there's susie alfred then there's starts with the a who oh then there's sharon and then the baby girl is abigail huh julia oh i always call her abigail so y'all bear with me so susie is entering her second or third year this is her second year at the university of pittsburgh [Music] and because of the education of my alma mater bannika junior high school she got a full scholarship so this was not planned but anybody that's ever been connected with college you know every full scholarship is not always a full scholarship so our scholarship committee here the women of virtue um we've been assisting and so forth but at the end of your message because i never heard i you know i've heard that texts preach all of my life but i never heard i i overlooked the sharing part the end of that and it's it's so true anyway i i want to bless y'all i want to bless susie with money to add to the scholarship [Music] and this is the way i want to do it you you're driving her back to college in the morning okay um bernard is a bucket over there who's over here somebody give me give me uh trustee owens give me two baskets and um come on get something out y'all get get something out it's just nice to be nice and do what's right amen you stand right there we're gonna do it the same way yeah so um joseph you had my wallet i'm i'm giving a hundred dollars for co-pastor myself a hundred for her you you'll give me my 100 back [Music] so some things you just just feel lit to do so um i'm giving a hundred for you go press huh guess what she said thank you oh my lordy now uh thank you dr hanchel thank you now um the majority will go with you your father knows how to do all of that help y'all with gas you going with them i'll help help the two of you with gas and so forth we're so proud of you now your father did tell me what what your desire is what your field is going to be or what you're going to do with your degree take your message just off the level yeah i'm currently starting my concentration as an engineer i'm going into bioengineering and the track that i want to go into is cellular so i'll start that this year i don't hardly know what bio engineering is and don't want to know okay so so um you can go back y'all can go back and come on down and let's be a a blessing to them okay from wherever you are come on down let's let's bless them [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] for those of you that would like to give electronically to our virtual audience you are more than welcome to do so if you want to give electronically just be sure to put in the memo line scholarship and we will make sure that the joseph family receives whatever it is that you are desiring to sow into their lives so again if you want to give virtually the ways to give out on the screen and just put in a memo line scholarship come coming off of our mount calvary week in our mount calvary holy convocation our founder bishop broomfield johnson used to say it's just nice to be nice so we not hating i know some of y'all out there like well look my baby's in college too let me tell you something we celebrate we don't hate because whenever god blesses somebody else that means he's in the neighborhood and god is not confined to one way of blessing us he can have your child go right to school and every debt every loan everything been wiped out i've seen it happen so we can't box god in but we want to celebrate with others amen let's stand and receive our benediction thank you for remaining and being so gracious with your time on today may the lord bless you and keep you may the lord cause his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you may he lift up his countenance upon you and grant you peace both now and forevermore when we leave this place lord don't take your spirit from us when we arrive at our destination let us find all things well keep us safe keep us from all hurt homo danger let this be a blessed week it is in jesus mighty name that we pray and we all say amen be blessed calvary have a wonderful week [Music] [Applause] [Music] i feel something in my feet i said after this we gonna be all right some of y'all about to miss the prophecy if we're in 2021 that means we're dancing in the after this [Music] i get somebody to dance with me after this that's in the after this don't miss this moment i said jazz in me after this dancing me after this warming me after this squeezing me out [Music] [Music] don't dance like you're on the other side praise him because you are on the other side tell somebody i'm in the after this i'm in the after [Music] what's the after after you have something a while i'm leaving i can't i can't look over at somebody and tell them we're in the after this how [Music] somebody said i can't find you where have you been i've moved locations [Music] i'm not where they dropped me [Music] but i'm in the season caught after this and then the season caught after this [Music] well if we don't have church let's go there come on i'm in this season come on after after this after i cry after i come through keep going to f sharp toss let's go i'm in the season it's called after after this [Music] after
