your basilica of our lady of darussari of manawag today we celebrate the first sunday of lent the temptations of jesus in the desert is a great reminder that temptation in our lives can be overcome if we go to jesus and choose to remain with him today is the first sunday of lent jesus christ prostrates very well the sacrifices and fortitude many of us is experiencing as one family let us pray for each other's temptation and suffering that we may remain faithful as we strive to become channels of god's grace in jesus brothers and sisters as we come together thanking god for all the blessings that we receive from him we continue praying also for each other especially this trying times pandemic let us pray especially for those who are suffering those who are at home or in the hospital we pray especially also for those who are in dire needs financially and morally so let us know [Music] ask god's forgiveness for all the sins that we have committed i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatness in them in my thoughts and in my words in what they have done and in what they have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most near you in your mouth and in your heart that is the word of faith that we preach for if you confess with your mouth that jesus is lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead you will be saved for one believes with the heart and soul is justified and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved for the scriptures says no one who believes in him will be put to shame for there bread alone then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant the devil said to him i shall give you all this power and glory for it has been handed over to me and i will give it to ever i wish all this will be yours if you worship me jesus said to him reply it is written you shall worship the lord your god and him alone shall you serve then he led him to jerusalem made him stand on the parapets of the temple and said to him if you are the son of god throw yourself down from here for it is written he will command his angels concerning you to guard you with their hands they will support you lest you dash your foot against a stone jesus said to him in reply it also says you shall not put the lord your god to the test that when the devil had finished every temptation he departed from him for a time the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ please be seated foreign [Music] temptation is real it is in our life present in our person the spirit into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the devil for 40 days jesus did not eat anything what he did is pray and pray and pray and here comes the devil jesus was tempted three times three times if you are the son of god command the stone to become bread temptation is always conditional [Music] if you are the son of man command this stone to become bread certainly for 40 days it is always the desire of the flesh but this is counter-act with the words written one does not live on bread alone this is the counter attack of jesus to disprove what the devil is telling him secondly he was tempted and allowed to see the world the glory and power i shall give you all this power and glory for it has been handed over to me and i may give it to him ever i wish and jesus answered you shall not worship the lord you shall worship the lord your god and him alone shall you serve so you can just imagine how powerful the words of the demon if jesus do not know does not know to counter act the words of satan he might be learned to worship him and that is because of the glory and power that the eye sees over the certaintation is a temptation were the devil again conditionally as jesus if you are the son of god to yourself down from here for it is written again using words he welcome a messengers concerning you to guard you and with their hands they will support you lest you dash your foot against a stone the same way jesus counteract you shall not put the lord your god to the test my dear friends these 40 days jesus praying [Music] in the district it's just like our celebration we are invited by the church for 40 days preparation and this is the beginning [Music] of our observances certainly we will be tempted because temptation is real and that is why we are invited to discipline ourselves to discipline ourselves and the church is giving us three recommendations against the three temptation that jesus had experienced that we might also experience namely this season of lent we are invited to pray yes to pray we are invited to fasting and abstinence we are invited to arms giving we are invited to pray in over in order to overcome these words that comes from our flesh to tame our flesh the lust for flesh and that would also mean to pray that we may overcome the looming for sexual sins killing lies losing our temples gossiping about people getting angry feeling resentment and the like desired temptation of the flesh this temptation that sometimes it is very hard to overcome especially when do not pray because when we pray we are linking ourselves with god we are communicating with god so when we pray it will give us the condition of not allowing ourselves to do what is idle with our lips especially with our stomach the discipline of our eyes the second temptation our eyes is so open to say the world to see everything that they said there when satan told jesus bring jesus to the mountain and sue the world in order to give him glory and power it is the eyes remember that sees everything if we do not know how to tame our eyes then we will be tempted to seek everything to look for everything big is if we do not know how to down himself so that angels will catch him jesus was tempted to do everything to show his power but jesus counteract you shall not put the lord your god to the test to the test when we are proud then proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen heavenly father renew us in your covenant of mercy that leads us to
