Sunday Catholic Mass for March 10 2024 with Father Dave

[Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit the Lord be with you hello everybody thank you for Sing yes I'm going to keep Sunday holy some of you have ears will say father Dave there was no base in that piano that just played and that's correct it was missing we don't know why it was sometimes God looks at our life and says hey my grace is missing why I'm giving it to you we have to respond to that Grace let's say yes and choose to respond to the grace that God's holding out to us and ask him for his Mercy Lord Jesus you are the Son of God and Son of Mary Lord have mercy Merc Christ Jesus you are the sender of the Holy Spirit Christ have mercy Lord Jesus you are the way to the father Lord have mercy May almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life let us pray oh God who through your word reconciled the human race to yourself in a wonderful way Grant we pray that with prompt devotion and eager Faith the Christian people may hasten toward the solemn celebrations to come through our Lord Jesus Christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit God forever and ever amen a reading from the second book of Chronicles in those days all the princes of Judah the priests and the people added infidelity to infidelity practicing all the Abominations of the Nations and polluting the Lord's Temple which he had consecrated in Jerusalem early and often did the Lord the god of their father s send his Messengers to them for he had compassion on his people and his dwelling place but they mocked The Messengers of God despised his warnings and scoffed At His prophets until the anger of the Lord against his people was so inflamed that there was no remedy their enemies burnt the house of God tore down the walls of Jerusalem set all its palaces of fire and destroyed all its precious objects those who escaped the sword were carried captive to Babylon where they became Servants of the king of the calans and his sons until the kingdom of the Persians came to power all this was to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah until the land has retrieved its lost sabbaths during all the time it lies waste it shall have rest while 70 years are fulfilled in the first first year of Cyrus King of Persia in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah the Lord inspired King Cyrus of Persia to issue this Proclamation throughout his kingdom both by word of mouth and in writing thus says Cyrus King of Persia all the kingdoms of the Earth the Lord the god of Heaven has given to me and he has also charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem which is in Judah Judah whoever therefore among you belongs to any part of his people let him go up and may his God be with him the word of the Lord thanks be to God let my tongue be silenced if I ever forget you let my tongue be silenced If I Ever Forget You by the streams of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion on the Aspens of that land we hung up our Harps let my Tong be silenced if I ever forget for there our captors asked of us the lyrics of our songs and our despoilers urged us to be joyous sing for us the songs of Zion let my tongue be silenced if I ever forget you how could we sing a song of the Lord in a foreign Land If I forget you Jerusalem May my right hand be forgotten let my tongue be silenced if I ever forget you may my tongue cleave to my pallet if I remember you not if I place not Jerusalem ahead of my joy let my tongue be silenced if I ever forget you a reading from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians brothers and sisters God who is rich in Mercy because of the great love he had for us even when we were dead in our transgressions brought us to life with Christ by by Grace you have been saved raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable Riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus for by Grace you have been saved through faith and this is not from you it is the gift of God it is not from works so no one may boast for we are his handiwork created in Christ Jesus Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance that we should live in them the word of the Lord thanks thanks be to God praise to you Lord Jesus Christ King of endless Glory God so loved the world that he gave his only son so everyone who believes in him might have eternal life praise to you Lord Jesus Christ King of endless glory the lord be with you a reading from the holy Gospel according to John glory to you you oh Lord Jesus said to Nicodemus just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert so must the son of man be lifted up so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life for God so loved the world that he gave his only son so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him whoever believes in him will not be condemned but whoever does not believe has already been condemned because he has not believed in the name of the only son of God and this is the verdict that the light came into the world but people preferred Darkness to the light because their Works were evil for everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come towards the light so that his Works might not be exposed but whoever lives the truth comes to the light so that his Works may be clearly seen as done in God God the gospel of the Lord praise to you Lord Jesus Christ what can stop a crowd I asked my people this this week uh at a daily mass what can stop a crowd what makes a crowd pause and the answers that they started to volunteer and I they were thinking in cars I I was actually thinking on foot but what can stop a crowd in cars uh they said you know cops right and yeah police to a degree have the power to stop people right they kind of sit like sharks and we're like the school of fish driving up on your interstates or highways the parkway the turnpike everyone slows down until you get like reasonably past them and then you pick back up to traffic speed next thing they offered was uh an accident right and so like when you're on the far side of an accident you know hopefully you're praying for the people that were in an accident you know most of us do when you pass them right but uh you know you're complaining about all these people in their rubbernecking and then you drive along and then what happens oh oh right you start looking and hopefully praying for the workmen and and those involved right the rubbernecking delay you and I add to it when we're doing that all right what can stop a crowd well one thing that can stop a crowd I think is the birth of a new animal particularly like if you think of like maybe a a horse a baby horse like trying to take its steps for the first time of FO I think they're called fo uh trying to like you know get up [Music] and then take its first steps towards its mom [Music] right I mean to appreciate the beauty of an animal particularly a horse or a cow you would think let's go with horse right like you wouldn't want to have a it'd be a problem if you had a farmer who didn't have time to appreciate the steps and the growth of a newborn fold right you we would hope that all and I'm not a farmer many of you are farmers I know where the Garden State we have lot there's lots of horses in New Jersey a lot of people who go horse yelling at everybody right but like you know like man you know a crowd of people will just stop and just watch the Beauty and the tenderness of that and it'd be sad if we lost that today's Gospel right what do we have we have this passage everybody knows so much God so John 3:16 right this is you see that John 3:16 you may not know the numbers behind it but that's what this is God so love world he gave his only begotten son whoever believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life and then 3:17 God sent his son into the world not to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him right and then there's this other line right like whoever does not believe has already been condemned and whoever believes will not be condemned so Jesus in talking the Nicodemus is referencing an experience of the son of man being lifted up of Moses lifting up the serpent in the desert and this is we don't have this story in the first reading today so it's kind of interesting but many of us know it if you don't super quick the Jewish people were grumbling against God they were tired with the bread that God gave them from Heaven they were sick of it they wanted to go back to what they knew in security and being slaves who cares you know what it's like I don't know you're dating an abusive person but at least I know the abuse and you want to go back to that Brokenness right that's a Temptation and these fiery serpents Sarah serpents or demons are then allowed to terrorize the people and they're dying right God sent serpents to them what God does is he doesn't protect them anymore from well what they want and so they want evil Evil's going to come to them and so the answer is then well God Saves his people because that you know Moses and others are asking God for help and he saves them how and you see this on a on if there's an accident and you see this you know you see this on an ambulance right you see the staff St with the snakes on it that's coming from this Old Testament story that Jesus is bringing up here that God tells Moses all right make a pole with a sah with burning serpents on it and hold it up and whoever looks at it will be saved and all they have to do is look at it that's it and they're saved and that's what Jesus is referencing here for those who want the advanced class look at Psalm 107 I know many of you won't but Psalm 107 says man people who are in um Darkness right so people who maybe are depressed or in a a terrible place in their life or Mourning all they have to do is look to God and he will save them people who are in Chains people who have addictions people who are in slavery all they have to do is look to God and he will save them in prison look to God and he will save you and then even more people who are on the ocean and and terrorized by these natural disasters and the power of the ocean are super scared just look to God and he will save you just that that look and that's what Jesus is saying here whoever believes in him will not be condemned right the son of man has to be lifted up and so what is this for us one like the farmer with the newborn you know cult the newborn fo the newborn horse we should never lose that appreciation of looking to God and remembering what he has done to save us God so loved the world that he sent his only son and so we remember this for sure remember it at Easter we remember it at Christmas we remembered Good Friday we remember it every single week and it's actually behind whenever we're making the sign of the cross right it'd be you'd have a problem if you had farmers who didn't have a love for animals or appreciate what's happening there and it'd be a problem if we as Christians did not want to look at Jesus on the cross or did not and we not that we want to see him suffer but did not take time to remember that right so like last week we talked about you know don't thr laundry on the Sabbath keep it holy the Sabbath but another but it's not simply What You Won't Do it's what we're choosing to do and we choose to remember his sacrifice right because Jesus didn't come to do his own will I heard a great line this week it certainly applies to what we believe it says your mind is a spoiled child you raised your mind to think what it wants to think when it wants to think as it wants to think it only if it wants to think it with a short attention span if it doesn't want to have a long one and not to focus on what it doesn't want would would it doesn't want to focus on and I heard that I'm like oh man that's right on and Jesus comes in the world not to do his own will to do the will of his father and he says you got to follow me right and some of you know the song I released earlier super late last night or early this morning some of you will know it's talking about that this this part of us that just wants to do what we want to do and want more and more and more and and God says no you got to say no follow him and take up your cross so that's what Jesus is doing we remember his cross one be sad if we didn't but two what we make of this line here those who believe will be saved and those who don't believe will already be condemned because they have not believed there's a difference between someone who doesn't know to look to God and there's a difference between someone who won't look to God all the Jews had to do to be saved that's what Jesus is referencing is simply look they had to use their Free Will and just choose to look at what Moses was holding up what God was providing this way out and all that's it just without cost just look it takes an act of the will to direct your mind and attention to this direction and if they did they were saved God healed them Psalm 107 and Jesus saying all you have to do is choose to look at me just look in my direction and my grace is going to come to you and there's a difference between those again who don't know to look and those who won't look and if you won't look like there's no way I'm looking at God and you know this in people at times in your life times if someone wants to share with you something you know about Jesus about faith and I don't want to hear this I don't talk to me about this let be careful if that's alive in you or others because that's the rebellious part that's from the devil who does not want to look to God for salvation and it's not magic but that Grace will come and and those chains will be broken it may be one Link at a time but they'll be broken you'll be set free I take up your cross and follow me is what Jesus is saying so we choose on this day to look to Jesus we ask him remember us when you come into your kingdom and we remember him when we're in ours I believe in one God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and Earth of all things visible and invisible I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God born of the father before all ages God from God light from light true God from true God begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our Salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord The Giver of Life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic church I confess one baptism for the Forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come raise our prayers to almighty God for the church may we be filled with God's love and may the guidance of the Holy Spirit be our strength let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray for civic leaders may they be given the grace to act in accordance with God's will let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray pray for all oppressed by Darkness or evil May the Light of Christ draw them to God's mercy let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray for this Community of Faith may we be strengthened by the immeasurable Riches of God's grace let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray pray for all the faithful departed may they be embraced this day by The Loving Arms of Christ let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray pray for peace in the world especially the Holy Land let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray pray for the end to Corona virus let us pray to the Lord Lord Lord here our pray pray and now for those petitions we hold in the Silence of our hearts let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray we pray that we may use our freedom to continue to love God and to look to Christ to be our light we pray to the Lord Lord hear our prayer we pray for those who have closed their heart to the gospel to the good news to the light of God may Jesus knock in their hearts again and they hear him a new and turn from Darkness we pray to the Lord Lord hear our prayer Almighty father turn toward us and hear the prayers you inspire us to ask we ask them in faith through Christ Our [Music] Lord [Music] in [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice in yours and be acceptable to God the almighty father may the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and the glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church we place before you with joy these offerings which bring Eternal remedy O Lord praying that we may both Faithfully rever them and present them to you as is fitting for the Salvation of the world through Christ Our Lord amen the Lord be with you lift up your hearts we lift them up to the Lord let us give thanks to the Lord Our God it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our Salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks Lord Holy Father Almighty and eternal God through Christ Our Lord for by your gracious gift each year your faithful await the sacred Pascal Feast with joy of Minds made pure so that more eagerly intent on prayer and on the works of Charity and participating in the Mysteries and sacraments by which they have been Reborn they may be led to the fullness of Grace that you bestow on your sons and daughters and so With Angels and Archangels with Thrones and dominions with all the hosts and powers of Heaven We Sing The hym of your glory is Without End we Acclaim holy holy holy Lord God of hosts Heaven and Earth are full of your glory hosana in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord hosana in the highest you are indeed holy O Lord the Fountain of all Holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when suffering was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit remember Lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of Charity together with Francis our Pope and David our Bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God of blessed Joseph her spouse the Blessed Apostles St Martha St Patrick St padrio St Thomas Moore and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may Merit to be coars to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son Jesus Christ through him and with him and in him oh God Almighty father in the unity of the friends in Colorado I want to say hello to Joe and Alexandra uh they're like we were watching this proring Co and he really helped us out and we think he's great and father Brian's like who is he and they they showed him our video and they're like it's a guy named father Dave and he's like I know father Dave I taught him everything he knows and he did he was my like he helped me become a good preacher when I was a deacon so hello to you guys your friend Father Brian has been a huge help to me in my life and every now and then he helps us out here at funerals he's a great great guy and a great great priest so thanks for supporting him as his friend and thanks everybody out there who are friends of priests you know not everybody gets us and those of you who see our life and how crazy it is you understand it so thanks for for you know passing that on to those of you who have priests in your family encourage vocations the Lord oh wait I got to give you a joke I have and I have one um so do you watch Dune did you watch Dune no did you watch Dune did you read Doom you're a big reader did you read Doom no I guess I should great science fiction series well I don't know the whole series is good I've only I've read two of the books I didn't read the third one that's on my list the movie is awesome if you like science fiction and I do I'm a geek I love the new movie is is fabulous pro- lifee Pro prayer without being preachy unlike Disney it doesn't like break from the story to like moralize that it's really really good most people who don't read Dune still know it has something to do with these big sand worms and some kind of crazy magic and a desert Planet but if you haven't read Dune you still know the name of the first human born on the Dune planet planet with the sand warms what was the name of the first human born there you ladies know analy analid analid means worm never never you'll get it later it's a FID D joke some of you got it out there the Lord be with you with your spirit bow your heads and pray for God's blessing look upon those who call to you oh Lord and sustain the weak give Life by your unfailing light and to those who walk in the shadow of death and bring those rescued by your mercy from every evil to reach the highest good through Christ Our Lord and may almighty God bless you the father and the son and the holy spirit amen go in
