directed by your peaceful rule and that your church may rejoice untroubled in her devotion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen a reading from the book of sirach when a sieve is shaken the husks appear so do one's faults when one speaks as the test of what the potter molds is in the furnace so in tribulation is the test of the just the fruit of a tree shows the carrot it has had so too does one's speech disclose the bent of one's mind praise no one before he speaks what is then that people are tested the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] lord it is good to give thanks to you lord it is good to give thanks to you it is good to give thanks to the lord to sing praise to your name most high to proclaim your kindness at dawn and your faithfulness throughout the night [Music] lord it is good to give thanks to you [Music] for just one shall flourish like the palm tree like a cedar of lebanon shall he grow they that are planted in the house of the lord shall flourish in the courts of our god lord it is good to give thanks to you they shall bear fruit even in old age vigorous and sturdy shall they be declaring how just is the lord my rock in whom there is no wrong lord it is good to give thanks to you a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters when this which is corruptable clothes itself with incorruptibility and this which is mortal clothes itself with immortality then the word that is written shall come about death is swallowed up in victory whereo death is your victory whereo death is your sting the sting of death is sin and the power of sin is the law but thanks be to god who gives us the victory through our lord jesus christ therefore my beloved brothers and sisters be firm steadfast always fully devoted to the work of the lord knowing that in the lord your labor is not in vain the word of the lord thanks be to god oh [Music] shine like lights in the world as you hold on to the word of life [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord jesus told his disciples a parable can a blind person guide a blind person will not both fall into a pit no disciple is superior to the teacher but when fully trained every disciple will be like his teacher why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye but you do not perceive the wooden beam in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me remove that splinter in your eye when you do not even notice the wooden beam that is in your own eye you hypocrite remove the wooden beam from your eye first then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye a good tree does not bear rotten fruit nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit for every tree is known by its own fruit for people do not pick figs from thorn bushes nor do they gather grapes from brambles a good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil and from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks the gospel of the lord r when we are in seminary they teach us that there are three areas from which a homily should be drawn as a priest now a priest doesn't have to give a homily except on sundays so a priest is required sometimes priests don't give a homily on the weekday that's within that's it allowed but the three areas that you've heard me maybe say before that a priest can choose to do a reading or excuse me a homily is first of all from the readings and let's say 90 probably 90 95 percent of homilies come from the daily readings whenever sometimes one of our priests goes off of the daily readings there's used to be some uproar and some condemnation on comments and things like that stick to the gospel stick to the gospel but our church also teaches there are two areas that we should be focused on homilies one is the saint of the day so on sundays we don't celebrate particularly saints but during the rest of the week we may celebrate a beautiful saint and the priest is fully able to preach on that saint and the third is events that are happening in the world that directly affect our living as christians i think it's quite clear in the situation that we're seeing in the ukraine this category of the third category warrants a few words to be said regarding the need for prayer and peace in the ukraine in fact um whenever this happens to be the case the comments and letters swarm in about don't be political if you research the catechism the catechism is very clear that the priest is supposed to speak on issues even political if the dignity of the human person or the salvation of souls is at stake this absolutely involves both of those what is happening in the world right now and so we ask for prayers i'm offering this mass for peace in the ukraine but the question has come up in some of the letters that we've received about war and i don't think we speak about it enough because it's very clear all of us i think know in our heart as the natural law is put on our heart we never want war we absolutely never want it we pray for our lord to take it away faustina used to talk about it a lot in the diary regarding the threats to poland in fact in one of the diary passages today i was looking and praying on what to say and this is this is amazing how god works and so i was reading about where faustina said lord please protect our borders from our enemies and so i thought this is this is a time to find out how did she mean protect well of course spiritually but one of the reasons why we need the church is because there are things that the bible can't cover the bible is very clear that not all things are in the bible the last words of the last gospel which is john make it very clear that not everything is in the bible but we can nonetheless disregard them or neglect them for instance what does the bible say about invert drove fertilization it doesn't but you don't think that that's not morally very important in our day and age it is what does the bible say about artificial intelligence something that is going to be overtaking the world and already is what does the bible say about artificial intelligence it doesn't but yet we don't think that that isn't morally important of course it is in what does the bible say about nuclear war it doesn't but that means we excuse me but that doesn't mean it's not important okay here's the point the point is this is why we need the church this is why we must listen to the church that god gave us that guides us in all of these other areas that are not in the bible for us to say sola scriptura violates the bible itself because these things such that i just mentioned are impossible for everything to be in the bible but yet all these other things have a teaching from the magisterium today i would briefly like to mention what is the church teaching on war and self-defense well i'm not giving you anything here that's my opinion this is all directly from the teaching of the church so please if you don't like it write the vatican because these are the teachings of our magisterium this is what the church says all right first of all what about self-defense let's go right to the catechism 22 2265 and i'm quoting this directly legitimate defense cannot only be a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others the defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm for this reason those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility so in other words they're saying you have the right to use arms to repel aggressors that are against your civil community that is entrusted to you now remember this goes even for you at home as the head of a household if you have children in the home and an unjust aggressor breaks in clearly with the intent to do harm to your family to severely injure them or to take their life you have the responsibility to stop that aggressor at any cost possible this is church teaching now going on to catechism 2310 public authorities in this case have the right and duty to impose on citizens the obligations necessary for national defense those who are sworn to serve their country in the armed forces are servants of the security and freedom of nations if they carry out their duty honorably they truly contribute to the common good of the nation and the maintenance of peace you've heard me sometimes tell the story of my father in the marine corps honor guard that was at a funeral of a man whose body was shipped home from iraq and a lot of tension was at the funeral because the word got out that some fundamental group radical group was coming up to protest the funeral and they did they showed up with signs that this soldier was going to hell because god condemns killing and the soldier in iraq was involved in in fighting he was killed in the line of duty that is not church teaching it is not church teaching as i just read that somebody in the armed forces who is doing their duty is going against any law of god we pray for them that they would never have to use their defense weapons or anything in that sense yes we pray for that but sometimes it's unavoidable as we just read in the catechism at that time these protesters showed up condemning the family condemning the soldier saying he will rot in hell and at that moment a bunch of bikers came in with american flags and dispersed let's say that the protesting crowd without any violence no problem it was peaceful we pray for that kind of peace we pray for what is happening in the ukraine you know without the battles of vienna in 1683 and laponto in 1571 most likely we would not have a church today it's very possible that if it wasn't for vienna and laponto we would not be able to worship we would most likely all be islamic praise be to god that there were some brave soldiers especially from poland in the battle that happened with jan sobieski to defend the beauty of christendom and the existence of christendom so many have died to give freedom that we now have our religious freedom and you know my my dad used to ask the nuns when he was taught if soldiers who die in battle go to heaven automatically and he asked me that question once and i said well there's no church teaching on this and you may have heard me say this but it makes sense because no greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for another so let us pray for those in the ukraine who are laying down their life trying to protect the civilians there now finishing here not all wars are just okay and even in just war not all actions are just there's something called the double effect the principle of double effect that determines if a particular action is just or not especially in war i don't have time to go into that it's a very detailed maybe a saturday talk i will but i will say this what the catechism teaches on just war comes from catechism 2309 and it says the strict conditions notice the word strict strict conditions for legitimate defense by military force so that's what we're seeing in the ukraine right now the defense by military force the catechism says requires rigorous consideration four things interesting the damage inflicted by the aggressor on the nation must be lasting grave and certain it seems that there is that happening in the ukraine second all other means of putting an end to it must have been shown ineffective we don't know all the negotiations that went but we do know that the president of the ukraine tried to contact putin but with no answer at least according to him third there must be a serious prospect of success at first i thought maybe this would be a cause to say they should not take arms up in lithuania because are they sending them in ukraine because are they sending people basically to their death against a much stronger forceful russian army therefore should they surrender but news reports that are coming out and i don't know how much you can trust the media anymore but the news reports that are coming out is that surprisingly god bless these ukraines they're definitely surviving and definitely persevering finally the use of arms must not produce evils and disorders graver than that than the evil to be eliminated in other words killing civilians um innocent people this would never be allowed so we finished with two last quotes from the catechism 2312 the mere fact that war has regrettably broken out does not mean that everything becomes illicit between the warring parties okay so let us pray that nuclear weapons will not be used here so far there has not been an indication that nuclear weapons will be used even within war there has to be a following of the conscience you know in world war one they used gas and the effects were so horrendous that as crazy and difficult and horrible as world war ii was many more people died gas was not used on either side that was labeled to be beyond the scope of warfare so there is even some sensibility to it now catechism 2314 says every act of war directed to the indiscriminate destruction of whole cities or vast areas with their inhabitants is a crime against god and man which merits firm condemnation all right so we have to make sure that we understand that even within a war for it to be just he has to be the proper principles that are followed now today's reading says not to judge others it says we are not to judge as the church is always taught this remember we don't judge the person only god does we are however to judge actions you've heard me say this before i have no idea what is behind your action i can judge the action but i can't judge the person i've used the example before about the mom who told me that she was judgmental because her daughter asked her to drive her to the abortion clinic and pay for her abortion the point there is is you can't judge the mom said very much so i will pay excuse me i cannot take you to the abortion i cannot pay for it i cannot god bless the mom but thank goodness the mom didn't judge the daughter because she still loved her why because in many cases and i believe this was one of them the girl is threatened the girl is scared the woman feels and in certain cases the boyfriend said i will kill you if you have this baby and i will kill the baby there are legitimate threats and fear so we don't know what's behind now here in the situation with the ukraine we don't know someone's full meaning a lot of people have written to me about putin putin putin and said that he appears to be against abortion he appears to be standing up for christianity i don't know is this true is that with his motives or is this a facade i don't know i don't think any of us know but we can according to the gospel judge his actions and his words have been troubling his words are stay out of my way and i'm taking over and so we have to realize though that even then we can't judge him as a person i know that's unsurprising you know sometimes even mental illness is involved you remember the story in the 1960s of the man who climbed up the bell tower at university of texas and killed was at 23 or 24 students by shooting them at the university the police finally got to the top of the tower and took his l and was able to stop him but they had to take his life again self-defense they ended up finding in an autopsy that this man had a brain tumor the size of a golf ball now if that's the case there may not be culpability fully so we can't judge the person jesus tells us this but we can judge the action and this action is wrong and we need to continue to pray for peace all right so to finish some say we don't well many realize there needs to be moral reckoning in our world right now especially in russia i'm not here to get into the debate of whether or not russia's consecrated whether you believe russia is consecrated or not consecrated you've heard me say this many times we can't control that that's between god and the holy father and past popes we have no control over whether or not russia was consecrated but i will say this mary had two parts mary said that before russia is converted two things need to happen not just russia be consecrated but that we do our first saturdays that we go before our lord on first saturdays and make reparation to the sacred heart of jesus on the first fridays in the immaculate heart of mary on the first saturdays the point is we have not been doing that most churches when i travel around the country don't even have a first saturday devotion there's no mention of it most people i've noticed over the last 10 years of doing parish missions have no idea what the first saturday devotion is mary specifically asked for us to do the first saturday to prevent russia from spreading her errors mary asked specifically for the first saturday devotion to be one that we follow to pray for peace everybody is hung up on whether russia is consecrated or not the vatican has said yes it is due to her document on june 2000 that says it june 26 of 2000 again i'm not here to argue that what i am here to say is please do the second part mary has been asking for first saturdays first saturdays please do this devotion otherwise russia will spread her errors i saw this little cartoon clip that said the world is screaming what's up with russia why is russia doing this and then on the next part of the cartoon there was a catholic looking like seriously we've been saying this for over a hundred years please pray for the first saturday's devotion you know whether war is just or not we don't want war whether or not we can justify the defense of the ukraine or not we don't want war and so please it is time now to make reparation to the two hearts it is time now to tell our lord we are sorry to make reparation to pray to pray the rosary and to ask our lady to intercede our situation is dire our need for prayer is great so please join us this friday at 8 as we do the first friday dedicated the holy hour for the ukraine and first saturday at 11 as we pray the first saturday devotions god bless you and let us pray for peace as jesus said mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to his mercy uh let us stand now and profess our faith i believe in one god father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen let us now offer our petitions to our heavenly father praying for peace and mercy for the church may god's grace empower us in our efforts to share the gospel message let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the salvation of the world through the mercy of god may all come to know the gospel message and the ways of righteousness and peace let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer prayer for those who experience addiction may god's grace come upon them bringing healing to them and their families let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer prayer for all gathered here may the lord purify our hearts and minds and fill us with his goodness let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the souls of all the faithful departed to the mercy of god may they be with christ in paradise let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for all the members of the association of marian helpers and the confronted the immaculate conception both living and deceased and for all the intentions they have entrusted to us as well as all those who call the right to us may the lord favorably hear their prayers and strengthen them in faith hope and love let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer and let us continue to pray for peace in the ukraine for which this mass is offered let us pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer heavenly father we place these petitions before you and we ask as you said to bring peace through your mercy we ask this through christ our lord amen [Music] [Music] blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you the fruit of the earth and work of human hands will become for us the bread of life by the mystery this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness [Music] blessed be god forever [Music] cleanse me from my sins pray brethren that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church o god who provide gifts to be offered to your name and count our oblations as signs of our desire to serve you with devotion we ask of your mercy that what you grant us as the source of merit may also help us to attain merit's reward through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just that we should give you thanks and praise o god almighty father for all you do in this world through our lord jesus christ for through though for though the human race is divided by dissension and discord yet you know that by testing us you change our hearts to prepare them for reconciliation even more by your spirit you move human hearts that enemies may speak to each other again adversaries join hands and peoples seek to meet together by the working of your power it comes about oh lord that hatred is overcome by love revenge gives way to forgiveness and discord is changed to mutual respect therefore as we give you ceaseless thanks with the choirs of heaven we cry out to your majesty on earth and without end we acclaim [Music] earth [Music] blessed is he who comes [Music] highest you therefore almighty father we bless through jesus christ your son who comes in your name he himself is the word that brings salvation the hand you extend to sinners the way by which your peace is offered to us when we ourselves had turned away from you on account of our sins you brought us back to be reconciled oh lord so that converted at last to you we might love one another through your son whom for our sake you handed over to death and now celebrating the reconciliation christ has brought us we entreat you sanctify these gifts by the outpouring of your spirit so that they may become the body and blood of your son at whose command we fulfill when we celebrate these mysteries for when about to give his life to set us free as he reclined its supper he himself took bread into his hands and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for my you and my god my lord and my god my lord and my god in a similar way on that same evening he took the chalice of blessing in his hands confessing your mercy and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of mercy [Music] my jesus mercy my jesus mercy jesus christ the mystery of faith [Music] [Laughter] [Music] therefore the memorial of the death and resurrection of your son who left us this pledge of his love we offer you what you have bestowed on us this sacrifice of perfecting reconciliation holy father we humbly beseech you to accept us also together with your son and in this saving banquet graciously to endow us with his very spirit who takes away everything that estranges us from one another may he make your church a sign of unity and an instrument of your peace among all people and may he keep us in communion with francis our pope and william our bishop and all the bishops and your entire people just as you have gathered us now at the table of your son so also bring us together with the glorious virgin mary mother of god with your blessed apostles with saint faustina and with all the saints with our brothers and sisters and those of every race and tongue who have died in your friendship bring us to share with them the unending banquet of unity in a new heaven and a new earth where the fullness of your peace will shine forth in christ jesus our lord through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always and with your spirit lamb of god you take away the sins of the world [Music] on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy [Music] lamb of god you take away the sins of the [Music] world those peace [Music] behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed body of christ [Music] let us see o lord your kindness let us hear of your salvation for you are the god that saves [Music] us listen to the voice of the lord a gentle voice that speaks of peace peace for all his people peace for all his friends help for those in need come and believe [Music] let o us your kindness let us hear of your salvation for you are the that saves us faithful god your love fills our lives spilling into every heart mercy from the heavens kindness like a spring flowing stream of life for all who thirst [Music] let us see o lord your kindness let us hear of your salvation for you are the god that saves us make us prosper lord we shall grow we will yield abundant fruit justice lead our footsteps peace shall fill our land all throughout the earth we sing your praise let us see o lord your kindness let us hear of your salvation for you that saves us an act of spiritual communion my jesus i believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you from the diary of saint faustina number 119 i tremble to think that i have to give an account of my tongue there is life but there is also death in the tongue sometimes we kill with the tongue we commit real murders and we are still to regard that as a small thing i truly do not understand such consciences i have known a person who when she learned from someone that a certain thing was being said about her fell seriously ill she lost a good deal of blood and shed many tears and the outcome was very sad it was not the sword that did all this but the tongue o my silent jesus have mercy on us let us pray nourished by your saving gifts we beseech your mercy lord that by this same sacrament with which you feed us in the present age you may make us partakers of life eternal through christ our lord amen amen well just a couple quick things you know i i i the way the lord works is just never ceases to amaze us um that passage that that our postulate just read sean it's kind of interesting i just have to tell this so this morning as i was praying on on the readings and on the situation in ukraine i um was going to give a passage where saint faustina talks about war now remember the reading was actually about the tongue the reading and the in throughout not only the gospel but the readings before that talked about the tongue and what we say what the words we use are what really is in our heart watch the tongue because what we say is indicative of of who we are and then as i started to do the homily and started putting together in my mind i didn't really have time to talk about that i was going to talk about praying for the ukraine as i did this is the honest truth you can look it up on our website if you type in saint faustina in war you'll see an article from the myrian fathers i went to that article and sister faustina it says said lord please protect our borders from its enemies diary 119. i went to 119 and it talks about the tongue it was a misprint so what my our lord was telling us was don't forget to mention that father chris because you're talking about needing for peace which we do and we do need to pray for we can't forget to mention the gospel of the day i absolutely fell out of my chair i'm like lord this is amazing just as soon as i get ahead of myself you reign it in you can look it up saint faustina ward go to our webpage it says lord please protect our borders from its enemies passage 119. 119 has nothing to do with that it was a misprint at least on my screen and that when you go to 119 it says lord i can't believe i'll have to give an account of my tongue this is what the readings were i'll have to we can kill with the tongue we can we can slander we can murder with the tongue and so our lord was keeping me in rain saying don't forget that and so let us let us also keep our tongues in check not criticize or condemn with our tongues but pray especially for this peace praise be to god that we have a god so full of mercy and again please join us friday and saturday for first friday and first saturday as we will dedicate our holy hours to peace in the ukraine and around the world and please don't forget wednesday is ash wednesday the start of lent what a time for us to be able to reflect on our ewtn show called living divine mercy at 6 30 eastern 3 30 west coast we will be talking about ash wednesday and we have an incredible story of a uh of a a group a missionary group in buffalo you won't want to miss it it's a great great testament of god's mercy the lord be with you and with yours may almighty god bless you the father the son and the holy spirit amen go forth the mass has ended thanks be to god saint michael the archangel defend us in battle be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou o prince of the heavenly host by the power of god cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the rune of souls amen may the divine assistance remain always with us and may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of god rest in peace amen and please everyone have a safe and great week [Music] oh god our help in [Music] your saints have dwelt [Music] sure [Music] the special promise attached to the chaplet is the for the dying a peaceful death for the dying jesus said i myself will defend the dying soul as my own glory [Music] man the hour of mercy is the moment of jesus death at that moment [Music] mercy was opened wide for every soul at that moment jesus was on the cross and he died he gave himself completely and a sign of this the physical sign is the blood and water that come came forth from his heart not seen remember the text when he was already dead one soldier came and pierced his side and immediately blood and water flowed out at this hour we all stand we go to the foot of the cross and we stand there and we talked to jesus because jesus said at this hour i will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of me in virtue of my passion [Music] you
