you can come we can do we [Music] cause you love me so fast [Music] we could cook some dinner [Music] maybe this is too much cause you love me [Music] is [Music] lately but i don't think you feel the same thing with me for maybe [Music] hello hello hello what what what is this music no next song please hello welcome welcome to the live stream let me just set a few things up and we will begin where is me where is my camera there it is there i am okay i think we're good to go so this is going to be a little bit different from our usual videos i'm just going to here live stream live stream some 3d modeling here and there i do have a chat on my left so if you have any questions or if you have any suggestions as i'm going to be modeling please feel free to just write in chat other than that hello so um i had a poll i had a poll um on my youtube channel asking for what kind of object should i model with subdi and you guys voted for a car from blade runner so of course i'm not going to just kind of copy the design that would suck instead i'm going to make my own but i am going to use the blade runner car as a reference and here i'm just going to find a few more um a few more interesting concepts of that particular car so you'll just see a few images pop up on my uh right hand side so that might be interesting what else that's kind of cool so let's add that this little thing here what else yeah for now i think let's uh let's keep it as it is oh that's actually a nice one um let's add that one as well so the thing that i'm using here on the right is it right or left for you i think it's right hand side uh the thing that i'm using is called pureref and prf is basically just you can have a bunch of images stacked in a single file and kind of use them as references to check out um different detailing and so on of the objects so it's it's great for referencing um let me just try to arrange them nicer normalize according to height um yeah let me just stack them up right next to each other there's one more here there we go or maybe maybe something like this which would be better okay i think we're good so car car car car let's let's start modeling well actually let's first start learning how to model learn how to model with sub d so in rhino 7 here you have all of these tools available sub d tools and it works in a similar way as a quad mesh subdemodeling in blender or maya or 3ds max you basically have a low resolution underlying geometry and then you subdivide it to make its move so we have a similar approach or or a similar behavior when we use catmull clark subdivision in grasshopper only that here you can actually get away with surfaces rather than only meshes which is nice for production but enough about that let's see so i will start start super simple i think let's just do a box yeah let's start with a box so sub d tools let's let's find our cube sub new cylinder sub the box there we go and let's say are we gonna work in millimeters yeah sure why not it's not that big of a big of a object so let's start with zero zero zero point and i'll just make a quick little box that is let's go for five meters in length oh my god five meters in length um enter then let's do for now let's do one meter in width and and you'll see you'll see why oh hello welcome welcome welcome hello there guys um so five meters by one meter enter and the height is gonna be how high is ryan gosling [Music] i'll go for 1.2 meters for now uh so 1200 okay my for some reason my keyboard stopped working but now it's back okay so we have this little guy here that's our sub d object and it's it's disgusting um let's see how we can change how can we change from it being shown as um as a soft oh okay uh so switching between the subdivided version at the end this unsub divided version is the tab tab button here oh by the way as you probably noticed uh compared to the recorded videos uh compared to the recorded videos this is going to be a much more ghetto and i'm going to blab even more you didn't think it's possible it's actually possible for me to blab even more and not do any work while just talking about the same thing over and over again again tab switches between between the sub d and the non-serving [Music] hello everyone who's joining the chat and will i share this post on youtube later uh yes to a certain extent i will i will be this is going to be a series for sure series of posts and i will be posting this series but once i have all of it recorded i will condense all of the live stream recordings into a single video i will delete all of the live stream recordings and then i'll post a single video with you know the compressed version of all of this but this is going to be basically until i'm working on it it's going to be a raw version what am i doing okay let's let's concentrate here not right let's let's go for front view um i do want to mirror this um so how do we oh okay cool so at least with um with with sub d ctrl shift and clicking works so i can control shift click and then delete to get rid of the faces or i can control shift click and then drag the face is up and down so that's nice i don't remember how it's called but it works so that's great i'm trying to find um convert objects there's some sort of like mirror mirror tool that's available select edge loop face loop okay let's try mirror select objects to mirror you you're not gonna mirror properly are you no that's just a regular mirror yes sub selection thank you i forgot the name of it um all right let's start adding edge loops so this is how it looks like that's definitely far from being a car right now um let's start adding edge loops um let's go for the front view and and and and and insert edge select edge from loop okay can we do it in perspective then oh so it's going to insert there but i want it on the other side how do we do that all right crease single subtyphase insert edge okay let's let's do it um let's do the old old-fashioned way let's try to select an edge like that that enter and then insert edge loop from from here okay so then it lets me that's good that's good to know so basically once you select the edge loop and then you use insert edge loop again on it then it's going to kind of behave okay so i want a few i want one oh my god can i only do it once let's try it like that ctrl shift selecting all of these insert edge yeah okay so at least it lets me do it that way so that's going to be one that's gonna be two that's gonna be three for now let's do it like that will it take a long time to model this car um i would say let's see there's a there's good like 32 hours of modeling here 32 48 maybe of of pure work to to get it up to like a certain standard okay ctrl shift let's just move this down for a bit like that okay um does this move down no maybe at least this edge definitely moves down something like this okay so we have that oh thank you thank you for the kind words i'm happy you're enjoying it ah come on so this one um i actually want to follow this logic here for for the front of the car so this gets inset inwards like that and the back will probably need to have a loop going up okay so that's you know it's it's nothing fancy but that's the basic um the basic shape of of the car um at least in in the in the side view of course once i hit tab it becomes all soft and so on but let me show you one thing um that that i really find important if i were to select all of these edges and i choose where is it insert edge and i insert an edge for these guys just super close oh my god like like that click so there is a like an additional edge loop that's super close and then i hit tab you can see that this becomes a much crisper a much much crisper edge compared to what it was before right this is before and edit redo this is after so while when i'm going to be adding additional edges i'll be able to make these kind of really small precise fillets for that car um remove crease add crease also of course you can add creases like that tab it becomes creased here right so it doesn't smooth out that particular edge but for now i don't want to do that for now i'm just doing a a very like a small not small but uh low resolution very low resolution mesh oh i found i found the tool that i was looking for and i i lost it again god damn it either it is reflects of the object so if i select this object and i choose reflects of the object it will ask me for the start of reflection plane so i'll just give it start and ah okay that doesn't work let's try again select sub d to apply reflection oh yes oh my god select sub d to apply reflection start to flip the reflection plane x axis pick a point on the side to keep that point snap to reflection plane automatic enter there we go okay so it works uh is it possible to add value to the crease no a crease is a locked thing so adding a value to the crease is done in the way that i've shown before where you have two edge loops that are very close to each other that's why i'm going to use that technique rather than creasing so this is like live mirroring thing basically once i hit tab you can see that it's all all mirrored and stuff damn that looks horrible it's it's all mirrored and basically then i can just grab let's see these two edges move them out and you can see that other side will react right so it's uh that how's it called again song don't don't please don't don't sing hope that's not gonna have any lyrics there um right so that's how it looks like it's not great but it is getting there we will get there we will make it look nice but for now it's gonna look like that okay actually i think the this edge and this edge needs to be way back like that well this edge needs to be up um actually this whole thing needs to be scaled down and moved up like that and this is going to be basically most of the most of the work is going to be me trying to figure out a clean clean proportion right something something that works i don't really like this area right here i think it's it could be better also that goes down kinda do we add an edge loop i think we add an edge loop so when when you're working with this kind of uh kind of stuff um always try to work with least amount of polygons possible is it possible to select it like so yes okay so that and then add add select edge loop slide mesh now i want to add insert edge eventually i'll figure out the the proper oh that's that's not a good edge loop not at all okay we'll need to figure that one out um eventually i'll figure out the which i'm going to call it the commands for it okay try again insert edge why does it not give me this edge right here instead it forces me to go there i hate it i wonder if it's possible to just kind of draw a line and then cut with the line let's try so what if i just say actually right here i want an edge loop like that join and then i will say split split with this bad boy split fail split failed explode and join maybe let's try explode nope explode doesn't work on somebody objects apparently so we are stuck with subdi tools um that's fine what's this slide edges okay oh that's going to be useful later yeah i know i know about the edge ring it's just that when i choose an edge ring so let me show you select edge loop right and i select one to the punk right the top loop um enter and then i choose insert edge it doesn't the doesn't really like like it so i what i think uh we will do i think this is solvable quite quite easily by just specifying this edge first inserting an edge loop here then specifying this edge inserting edge loop here and snapping to the vertex and here as well snapping to the vertex you know um it's it's a long way around rebuilding i don't even know if rebuild no subd doesn't have rebuild uh normal should be fine uh can something be flipped nothing to flip okay so sub d uh sub d doesn't flip and then this does fd have normals um wait oh i know we can check it with display display display display color back faces and make it red oops where is the ghosted yeah so so it's fine [Music] yeah so normals is like face orientation and blender uh that's that's exactly that either way we we figured it out it's it was just i don't think it liked the fact that this edge and this edge it's basically made out of the box from from a box so i didn't really like this seam right here and this corner seam right here we'll need to figure out how to solve it later select by brushing what the hell is that enter okay sure some weird no weird things anyway what can we do oh here we we will actually um will we maybe we'll just move this down like that and move this out a bit like that yeah i think that's that's fine while here like this little guy right here now this is rhino 7 the the close not not closed right now it's already open the yeah rhino 7 release um slide mesh edge okay let's let's try to slide it okay that doesn't let's try to slide it again select sub d or mesh edges and vertices to slide okay what if i click click enter okay let's try again what if i just click the edge and slap slide damn it every single let's let's let's try to figure it out well technically i could do this and then move uh from this vertex to this vertex by um 200 something like that and it's it's gonna be oh so that's not welded that's not welded [Music] so we need to figure out how to weld it as well also stop singing no okay so that's that's a problem that's that's a problem that we have there um is it okay time for some different genre because this is just uh way too many way too many songs um what if what if we align vertices no vertices were just um what if we weld vertices select measure sub d vertices to weld okay this guy this this this this here here enter did it work no it didn't okay let's try one more time but this time with wireframe on and vertex mode turned on um weld basically i have two vertices there and i need to merge them into one weld vertices this this these two vertices or whatever enter okay let's try close that move that [Music] okay what else can we do can we make a quad mesh from this mesh mesh it okay now we can't convert to nurbs sub d to mesh well that's okay chad chad anyone have have an idea because i sure don't that vertice right there everything seems fine with it except that it doesn't i assume this vertice here is is the same it's quite the same yeah there's like two of them there i want to merge i want to merge the vertices so here for instance there's only a single vertex right so here is just a single vertice here i have a duplicate yes it is reading it as an n gone but once i merge the vertices it will not uh it will stop reading it as an ungone so the thing is align vertices should work what if i say one millimeter [Music] a line where this is dancer with languages we we are we are learning boys we are learning okay so where was i so now i can actually slide the slide the edge here yeah and it slides nicely okay so that was rough but now it works and i probably can uh filter only points just give me a point can i slide them yes i can so it's it's a nice thing that um the points slide along the edge with with this tool right here and it's called it's just called slide that's nice um let's see so this is how it looks like right now of course it's it's you know nothing even remotely close to to our references but i think we are getting there this needs to be bigger right i think this needs to be bigger like that yeah stitch uh what does stitch do first vertex set the very stitch stitch together that's cool that's that's a cool tool we will be using it but uh not right now but we will for sure uh because now actually we will be using it quite soon um let me add an edge loop and for that we will try to select an edge loop again select edge loop click oh there we go that's now that's how it should select oh by the way i have my chat on the left so if i'm looking to to the left right that i'm just reading chat um so this is how it should always select edge loops um yeah and i want to add add add add inch or rather insert edge right around here good good good good and now let's just select these four edges and move them to the side okay okay okay so we have that what do i think about rhino 7 versus blender when it comes to this kind of work um i'll tell you once i finished modeling this this car for right now i'm way too unfamiliar with the way rhino works uh in terms of sub-d modeling um don't sing there we go um so i'm way too unfamiliar to tell you my opinion right now right now it seems super clunky honestly like uh rhino seems to be way slower way more clunky and less intuitive but jesus christ but don't don't take my word for it for now it my opinion might might change really really quickly um let me just find what kind of music do you guys like i'll try to find some some some music that's not you know that's that's that doesn't have any lyrics [Music] yeah for now let me just run some let's let's run some smaller motions um did i use sorry did i use t-splines yes i did i i wasn't good at with them though so i don't know [Music] yeah this is going to be lo-fi only a little bit a little bit calmer i think that's fine uh what kind of music do i use as an outro um i don't know honestly some sort of a random um completely random free music that i found on the internet and that that i liked right um honestly that's that's that's about it um so i don't like this edge loop doing the thing here so like making this angle here so i'm going to probably just draw a line here draw a line here that's perpendicular grab this point right here this vertice and just move that vertice to here i don't know i i just want it to be a little bit tidy before i completely break it completely break it apart um oh i have a i have a an idea what if we select oops what if we select all of these surfaces here goddammit come on surface surface surface surface surface surface okay these surfaces and then we use the insert edge [Music] insert edge [Music] this is yeah insert edge okay so it doesn't doesn't let me do that uh crap so we'll need to do the the old-school way um um insert edge there we go and for some reason the bottom doesn't insert again but that's fine we will we'll fix it um insert edge again doesn't insert hmm [Music] okay what if i do this and then choose to insert edge then it works okay so this is where i say you know yo this is quite clunky all right okay so we have that and now i'm going to do something very very brave oops not that brave and i will just say delete okay so we have this [Music] oh sorry i i skipped one comment i select control points by yeah using the control shift honestly i've been using rhino for since rhino 4 came out so i don't know how long and i've learned about control shift last month so youtuber tutorial guru right here by the way not knowing about control shift his whole life anyway modeling is fun um okay so what was that that command stitch right stitch stitch let me try that's not how you right stitch is it stitch select first vertex or set off edges to stitch together yo this edge and this edge these two edges enter oh okay so it's not like that okay got it got it okay let's try again bottom edges these two edges yes top edges these two edges no that's that's not what i want so apparently stitch merges them like forces them together no that's that is not not what i want instead let's just do sub deloft i think somebody loft will do the trick select curves um to laugh together so uh uh this and this enter oh that's a lot of that's that is a lot of settings corners creases closed i just shape segments no i don't need to adjust segments oh actually i do because there is an edge here so i need this to be divided up [Music] no no no no no no no like that okay according to corners yes join okay why did this change color yo why did this change color will it not react anymore let's try oh my god okay so when i loft it doesn't let me uh cap i'm not sure cap options uh i don't know no it doesn't this is not a planner opening so it doesn't let me you scout but that loft i think that will work we just need to select curves um in loft order so this and this bottom and top uh creases no corners i just shape segments like that too and don't choose join hit okay so this guy right here is is is is flipped right so i'll just use flip to flip it back and this seems to be okay can i just casually join it in sub the edges smooth yes smooth bridge there's one more option on how to join this okay let's try bridge select first set of edges to faces to bridge okay you enter you enter two segments what the hell is straightness oh so how is bridge and loft different then that's where i'm becoming confused welding of edges no there's a welding of vertices but not welding of edges at least to my knowledge okay so straightness is full on straight hit okay um for some reason can't select it oh and that's that's why but it doesn't why doesn't it translate why why doesn't it translate there to the other side does it just break the symmetry when i when i do this also how it look looks wonderful doesn't it and that edge right there is a duplicate oh it's it's all messy um okay so first of all this uh we need to treat this and make it soft remove crease for now okay so that guy doesn't care that yeah okay that's cool um so we will do the thing that we did before align vertices one no vertices suggested okay cool try stitch uh oh right right here we can actually use stitch uh shift uh yes let me just wireframe this also i don't think this is good do you think that these edges are good i don't think they're good so let's first fix that um and we fix that by actually moving that yeah by moving that point right there towards here um what was it stitch right so now let's try oops stitch okay select second set of edges i i have selected what what do you mean stop shh cancel cancel um is there just a single sub there there is just a single sub the edge there right no it's not okay so stitch stitch u enter and behind you enter yeah okay um i have absolutely no idea if that worked but we will try it with this bottom one as well stitch this guy enter second set of edges again click there enter average yes please it works it works okay now it rounds off quite nicely well i see nicely it looks like but uh you know at least the topology is correct um right we need to fix this though like this is just uh obnoxious uh the fact that it doesn't translate anymore and the whole thing breaks apart so i think we need to use use the where is it hello mirror mirror mirror oh it's not called mirror it's called something else i'll find it that stitch how is it there it is can i just there we go reflect select subd to apply reflection u um enter to use current reflection plane yes snap to reflection plane yes there we go okay so yeah reflect i need to start writing these things like reflection and so on okay so we have that i think i think let's do something like this yeah i think that's gonna look nicer yeah it does actually something like that maybe a little bit too high or what if we do something like this just slightly tilting up maybe that will will give it a kick um so this is still like this whole stream is going to be me shaping the the car thing and then in the next stream we will start detailing it and adding like proper subdivisions and uh not not subdivisions but proper edges and so on for now it's you know you can see how messy it is um question if i select these two things can i say that it should be creased select measures of the edges okay so no it doesn't understand that all of the edges here should be should be creased so i need to do it manually that's fine we crease them so it's going to look like that that's okay and for now i will actually oops for now i'll actually crease the the bottom side here [Music] okay crease that looks horrible oh it looks so bad okay let's let's not crease it there we still need to fix quite quite a bit there to be able to actually use it properly this edge definitely goes in like that and i think the top edge should do that as well and they go in like so i think that's going to make a nice where did i find the car model um just google googled futuristic car blade runner something like that it's basically i had a poll uh on my youtube channel asking for people to wait just give me a second um i think that the ass should be wider like that whoa did it just add uh the additional seam no no no no don't do that so i had a poll asking for what what kind of car or what kind of object should i learn uh modeling on and people voted for for blade runner car and of course i'm not gonna make a blade runner car but i'm gonna make something something similar to it you know in a similar fashion and once i'm done with it i'll know for sure if i like the [Music] if i like the tool or not right so maybe this can go out like that this goes in but that's an awkward angle to go in at so i'll keep it straight for now so there's there's gonna be a hiccup there but i think the hiccup is fine that edge right there could be pronounced a little bit more yeah like that do we wanna make a fatter boy here um not really i think thin is fine because the back is bulky but maybe the front could be moved out a bit more uh wait how is that star wars um star wars uh car called pod pod pod racing [Music] there was that uh wait let me just drag it in here there was that uh [Music] movie uh everyone knows star wars but um those those pod pod racers in that one movie uh one of those star wars movies um where we where they had is kind of really large um engines dragging the the pods themselves i wonder if but there are no good designs there well i shouldn't say that that's that's that's a dick thing to say there aren't any designs that are in line with blade runner-esque design language so i think we will yeah we'll skip skip it for now instead we'll stick to to blade runner [Music] um oh cool um in blender actually yeah go ahead and try doing this in blender um in blender actually i will have a second second series of this kind of modeling in blender and i am going to model out and um the the goddamnit how is it called acura acura bike if you don't know what it is again it's not not going to model the precise uh akira bike but but just something in in the same in the same language as acura bike and let me try to find i there we go that's a nice image right there this thing right here so well but yeah yeah yeah for for instance sabal by anakin was was driving one yeah the whole race but um so that's going to be done in blender um later not now now we are focusing on our rhino model um well right now rhino subdi seems to be very very young so to say so it's not um i wouldn't call it super um super useful for now uh but i think it does have a huge potential to be quite quite a tool quite a tool um do we add one more edge loop here that that's what i want to know or do we just move this edge loop back maybe we do that let me just grab this edge loop here move it back and actually oh by the way did you know uh this is something that i've learned quite recently and it's it's a small thing but it's quite a useful thing if we let's say have an edge loop so remember the one that i've selected like this this set of edges right this u shape uh if we have this set of edges and let's say you messed it up so let's say you have done something to it so it's it's like that and um the other side is like that so it's all messy right so if i select it again like that that that and that it looks like crap right if you want to flatten it out straighten it out all you need to do is just scale it along the direction at which it's all messed up right you just scale it to zero with the gumball and now it's it's all flat again in in that particular along that particular axis super simple but honestly took me a while to figure it out so that's how i straighten out my edge loops so we have that i'm not sure i'm not sure not sure so all of this is gonna be flat i think that is nice i think that is correct uh this needs to be way closer though um so i'm thinking of oh i know i will just add a point right there that's going to be my guide point so that i don't lose the the angle i'll select my edges here like that again scale everything to zero to have a straight line and now i can move that line back to where it was to the point well i need snapping to be turned on like that that's done cola okay so that's [Music] that's one thing let's smooth it out again see what what's going on so of course that edge there can i straighten out that edge can i just crease it okay i'll just type increase there we go then this becomes quite quite a brutal quite a brutal crease so we the answer is no no we can't just crease it we will need to figure figure it out that's fine [Music] other than that at least the shape star seems to be like it starts looking fine like good good enough for for our next stages um the central crease this one right here i think could move up perhaps or maybe this moves down rather than up let's think that's from the side that's from the top so [Music] sorry just a little bit of a hiccup um yeah zbrush uh well ziprush is expensive that's that's all i need to say about zbrush it's a great program it is quite expensive though okay uh so i don't want to see it from the right side view i want to see it from the left side view here okay that's that's uh quite ugly but now we can see so the top view looks absolutely disgusting the side view looks okay i think maybe we don't need that edge to be there actually let me just move vertical down to that point wait didn't snap [Music] is this horizontal i don't even know anymore oh come on [Music] there we go um so is this horizontal okay yes yes yes it is so this is how it looks like from the side that's good that is a good curve not sure about that one maybe we need one more edge loop yeah let me just add it i'll just add it and we'll call it today um sub d tools i think we can get away with yeah we're just selecting an edge loop like that and then insert edge see i'm starting to learn the the tools uh the commands how to nap mesh in rhino nap what's snap i have no idea what nap means that needs to be zero and it needs to go closer come closer to here like that that's good that point right there is annoying but we will deal with it later or actually let's deal with it now oh definitely not like that um really don't like that that point right there so we'll have an edge going like so yeah i think that's fine no how to snap so snapping you can snap to a mesh with vertex snap here in the bottom you can't snap to edges of a mesh but you can snap to just vertices of a mission right now because rhino really doesn't it's not great for meshes um it's not great to work with meshes and right now in rhino 7 it's actually decent it's it's it's better definitely but it's more of a surface modeler it's just a surface modeler okay so we have that okay back to making the sides nicer so that little wave there i don't like ctrl shift click that point move that point again move that point hello rhino okay let's try from the other side from the back side apparently you can't do that in the front side sure that that that do we want this to be lifted up probably not because this goes underneath okay let's be uh oops let's be vigilant about this this is super important this is going to be our bottom edge so right now i'm using it as a center edge right here and i'm using it as a bottom edge right here it i need to choose either one or the other i can't choose both so i will i'll say that this is indeed our bottom edge like that that that and then oops no no don't like that's a that's a disgusting edge loop in the bottom i need to fix that there we go okay so that is our bottom edge and i will fix the [Music] um i i will fix the the [Music] how much it's it's sticking out later and actually here you can go even deeper like that okay now it's bottom heavy like i mean the design is bottom heavy now but that is fine do we actually want it maybe [Music] just to do one thing um so time for like bob ross says time for some brave to make some brave decisions so i'll select all of these surfaces and i'll scale them to zero i'll flatten it out like that i'll move it back in like that so this all of this is now um cleaner and i'll also select all of these edges right here and i'll scale them along the z axis now to zero so i'll straighten all of them out here as well okay now this goes back in because i don't want it to be ah i don't want it to be sticking out that much that was a bad idea go back in and this this this yeah whatever just move back like that okay yeah exactly um in terms of uh the the the watchmen zbrush versus rhino those are completely two completely different use cases zbrush has the only thing that you can do with a mesh from zbrush is you can 3d print it you know so so it's a sculpting tool in terms of production while rhino is purely oriented towards production and if you look at other software that's oriented towards production such as solidworks or katja katya those things cost like ten thousand dollars at least so in that relation rhino is the cheapest alternative to all of the high-end um like production oriented software packages in terms of zbrush there's a free alternative blender that also has sculpting and of course it's not that great but in that regard like just looking at it comparatively comparatively uh i would say that that's why i see zbrush is expensive while rhino is not because you're talking about two different fields and one field pays much more money for their software than the other yeah it's it's just some nice little background music i i i do enjoy it oh we made a boo-boo here we made a big boo-boo here oh no um we need to fix it or does it look good no it doesn't okay so we need to fix it how do we fix it [Music] well i think we just kind of straight up do you do a line grab the point and move it perpendicular to the line well that was easier than expected oh but this uh this little point right here is lost so this moves down like that oh and this one as well move vertical so if you want to lock the movement along the vertical axis you just hit m enter v enter and then it will only be able to move vertically according to the c plane that that you're using so i think the topology is now quite good for us to move forward except this thing right here uh could be better um so let us fix this one and then we will move forward so i'll just grab these three points as per usual i will scale them to zero to straighten out the edge move it somewhere here so this from a a flat one oh sorry from a vertical one becomes a 45 degree one this and this uh needs to also straighten out or does it yeah it does zero yeah i think that that's fine and the last thing is this little guy right here just needs to move in a bit yeah okay topology is good it's all about the edge flow baby it's all about edge flow all right uh let's add a single edge loop so where's my sub d tools do you use gumball with snappy drawing explain what is snappy drawing this is the command probably not a command right no that's not a command [Music] or are you just talking about having object snap turned on and also gumball turned on i use both when i'm doing architecture i almost never use gumball because everything needs to be you know moved and modeled in precise units when i do these kind of freeform car models then of course i'll just use gumbo okay that's my edge loop a pretty nice one and then we will add insert edge we'll add one more edge loop right here in the well actually let's do it in the middle cell edge a cell edge loop okay that's the command so we have this guy right here okay and i want this to be flatter and i don't know how how to do it [Music] well first of all let's say that we're gucci with that oh okay doesn't let me do that okay that's fine so what happens in the ass is fine what we care about is what happens here on the side so that part as well as that part there needs to be an um a tool called uh chain edges so you select the first one and then holdings down some sort of a button you select the next one and it will find the shortest path along the edge graph and select all of the the chain of edges connecting the two uh right the two selections i think that's what is really required for this to work properly and it's not like they can't do it they definitely can it's it has been a part of well kind of a part of grasshopper for quite a while now okay so this goes up like that and this little point right there goes back in like that so that's a nice edge there but these two guys need to go back like that yeah i am okay oh and this edge right here will need to fall back like so okay a little bit sharper now um i can't speak russian i don't know why you guys think i can speak russian but i really can't sorry um yeah i want to model the car thing well not necessarily one of these cars but something something a little bit inspired from from from these images hello so i want to model that and basically just learn about learn about modeling in general uh sub d modeling in general while i'm doing it so let's now grab these edges here these guys and scale them down like so yeah like that that's good do we want two more edges that's the question um so the reference window this this little thing right here is is a separate program it's called pure ref it's a free program and it's quite nice i i always use it for for references you know to basically just stack all of the images that that i need for instance if there is a client and he orders a building you know a building design from me it's not like he just says do whatever you want instead he um he or she sends me a set of images that daddy like right and then once that once i have those images i just add them to pure ref and as i'm modeling out the the building i'm kind of referencing in different aspects of what the client likes from those images so this is kind of a similar approach here with the cars it's basically i'm looking at the back and i'm going i don't know what to do with the back right you know how how to make the back nicer and then i might just go in here and say well that looks cool maybe i'll use that right and it's basically that am i greek no i'm lithuanian so i've come from the land of lithuania not sure [Music] if this is correct i don't think it is i think we need to [Music] grab this edge right here move it down and even scale it in oh scale it in like that [Music] yeah just something like this maybe a little bit wider like that and then we need to a cell edge loop select our loop here bam insert edge and insert one more edge here at the midpoint like so and this one i will not mess around with it too much but i will grab that point that single pointer and i'll move it out so that it's doing its thing like that and here we will just adjust it a little bit yeah that's good enough for now move that one up and that point up as well like that okay so the s is way too big i do use blender great thanks thanks guys i've seen quite a few uh russian channels on on youtube that are doing amazing things with both blender and rhino in terms of this kind of modeling so you guys have a lot of inspiration to take in like a lot of venues to take inspiration from i guess um so that [Music] so how do we make this thinner maybe we just do something like this with this work looks fine i think [Music] i mean it doesn't look that bad does it i just need to mess around the points a bit [Music] come on a perfect edge loop right here wonderful just just pure okay yeah that that seems fine uh it really doesn't like this this edge right here though so let me try and move in this this point back in even further and maybe i will shorten shorten the the wideness of this this angle not angle this this taillight thing we will fix this later for now i just want to see how this looks maybe we can lift this even further you and you you and you need to be the same height and need to be up and now you and you also need to be in the same height and now you you and you all four of you need to be in the same height there we go we just made the square so this becomes quite uh quite annoyed that that we've made a square here so it needs to become instead of vertical needs to become horizontal this edge not edge surface sorry um so we need to somehow fix that and release the tension um how do we do that maybe by just simply taking this surface here and moving it in like so yeah i think that's fine this edge needs to move away a bit or does it maybe it doesn't okay let's see does emap work on this bad boy yes it does that's the nice thing about working with um nerves or sub-d geometry rather than meshes is that it's super super clean that the continuity of the surface is super clean okay so as this is turning around let me see let me see let me see what we have here car car car so let me just change a few things here just just give me a second make it bigger there we go because i'm going to be talking about the references here a little bit so this i like and i will be using a little bit you know quite a bit of of these all of these edges and so on on on this vehicle so this i really like this honestly no this well the the front is is quite quite bad it's the same sim card here and here so the front is quite bad but i do like how it opens up i i'm thinking of doing like um the final model that i'm gonna do i am going to be 3d printing it and maybe even [Music] giving it away yeah we'll see i'll probably make this into a like a collectible edition thing let's say i'll just print like 10 of these and give them away to i don't know patreon highest tier patreon supporters or something like that i will see we'll talk about it once we get there for now i'm just messing around uh taillights from here there's way too much glass here but i do enjoy the taillights so we will be adding the if that's not tailorized as front lights we will be adding those and the thinness of this nice um i'm contemplating if we should have wheels on it or not perhaps i will add wheels or maybe not we'll see we'll see and here it's just uh i don't know this seems to be a little bit more a bit more expensive car right this is a bit more like mercedes and this is more like a prius type of situation going on so i will be probably adding more details from the you know mercedes aesthetic uh to my prius either way let's make this smaller again come on no just just become smaller there we go that's great um and now i need to move you here am i a product designer nah not at all i am an architect um i wish i was a product designer though um seems like a very rewarding um no not even product designer i would like to be a product manufacturer like like a carpenter or something like that honestly that that that is super it seems to be super rewarding for me that kind of work but no i'm a i'm an architect and [Music] right now i'm a teacher so so i just teach in the university grasshopper and whatnot like these modern digital fabrication tools all right let's continue on um or actually we only have we only have like 30 minutes left let's let's work on the ass a little bit more in those 30 minutes and then we'll call it a day for now uh i'll probably uh continue on working on this not tomorrow but probably day after tomorrow so i'll have another stream here and the stream is also of course going to be available the recording is going to be available once the stream is over so if you missed it you'll be able to see um let's go for backside where do i live i live between two countries one is called lithuania and the other one is called sweden so during these corona times it's fun super fun to travel back and forth do i have an online grasshopper course by course do you mean um something interactive because if it's not interactive then i just have my my youtube channel right and i have like at least 60 grasshopper tutorials there something like that i am planning on starting some sort of a grasshopper course uh once we reach 10 000 subscribers something you know with a small subscription fee i don't know honestly i i really want to keep the education free that that's something that i uh that i believe in that all of the tutorials should be free and all of the material for learning should be free uh so that kind of rubs me the wrong way in in in starting uh a subscription based service but at the same time i like to eat food and i like to pay the rent which is you know kind of a nice part of of life having a roof above your head and set i'll try to use inset here and set distance what's going on it's inserting for all of them huh let's see what's gonna happen it's a distance five okay did you know that you can do that um but that's not what i want to do so let's undo all of that um parametric design is the future oh wait there there's one more question uh is somebody related to autocad uh no no autocad doesn't have sub d at least to my knowledge it doesn't and honestly i use autocad just for 2d drawing 3d modeling and autocad is hell super bad um yeah it's it's a way of how to grow the channel i think right uh having subscription based content um but we will need to sort it out so that it's not not too greedy so the same parametric design is the future well yes and no to a certain extent it is um parametric design is super useful when you need to do repetitive tasks by the way if anyone knows how to get all of these surfaces here right i have all of these surfaces and i want to what i want to do is i want to inset them inwards right into like this whole block i want to move it inwards if anyone knows a trick on how to do it let me know um because i'm just looking looking through uh the the settings so where was i um parametric design and and and the future it's a tool it's it's one of you know it's a single tool um that needs to be a part of a much larger tool set for it to be useful or else you'll just end up doing swarms like swarm simulations and not being able to produce anything right so in terms of parametric design i think it's it's it's not that big of a deal as people who use parametric design tend to think especially this is coming from a person who's you know my whole career is built around parametric design but it is a extremely strong tool to know and be able to use [Music] extruded and scale okay let's try um so i have all of these i will extrude jesus christ what the hell is going on no just shift what okay it doesn't it direction okay okay so here i just said the direction right yeah okay good direction here like that then i need to select all of these faces again come on [Music] is there like co-planner face selection in in rhino i'm not sure and then we scale it actually we let's do it this way bam and then we scale it by 0.8 now that's too much let's do it again bam scale it 0.9 like that and move it in and that's that should be fine right or do we need to do it one more time yes we need to do it one more time god damn it okay sure um so i need this this is scaled inwards and i need to do it again you'll you'll so inset doesn't work because it insets every single surface individually that's that sucks okay extrude again this time i know what i'm doing select all of these scale them 0.9 again that's good okay and now this moves back here we select all of no crap no i shouldn't scale this i'm gonna get there i'm gonna get her i promise [Music] that moves in like so okay and then get selected all of these get selected and all of this gets scaled to zero to make it flat so now this is flat and now all i need to do is just select all of this and move move it in well that was harder than it should have been but now we have we have the thing okay okay okay okay so we have the thing going on we have the edge here um this is a little bit wonky but that's fine let me just select an edge loop cell edge loop this one right here and add one more edge loop uh so add edge no cut edge insert insert edge right around here so then it's basically us making a sharper crease around here and then i can crease it even further by just moving these three lines for instance even closer so see how these lines are close this crease then becomes super close as well if i want to to make it even sharper i could add another edge loop right here in the bottom but for now i will not be doing that let's go for emab just to see that crease seems to be good yeah so okay this seems to be clean now okay let's call it a day i don't want to stress uh not not stress but i don't want to rush too much with this we have learned quite a bit oh one last thing edge inset let's see if if that's the thing that i wanted to to work with edge and set now there's no inset edge inset select faces what if we do this [Music] yeah so it keeps doing that right it keeps keep selecting the two uh two two two separate polygons that i i don't want it to be like that um subdivide sub d slide mesh and the nice thing is get that booty yeah actually doesn't look that bad does it like uh once we spend so so now we have spent how long have we spent here yeah i know that that's what i was looking for in in blender uh not in blender in in rhino uh wait let me skip this song there we go um right right right right right what i was saying i was saying that we have spent around two hours two and a half hours here just chilling doing one six only one six hours really wait wait i'm checking the statistics ah oh no no it's not 1.06 it's 1.06 um since i uh since the break yeah so it's it's it's 1.06 since the break but i've started at 12 so it's almost two hours it's it's it's almost two hours okay let's let's call it a day for now uh i will be coming back in not tomorrow uh day after tomorrow for sure and we'll spend um maybe four maybe four hours then uh just polishing this up and and making it nice as i said before i'm i'm thinking that the whole project this whole project is going to take around 32 hours maybe 48 to you know make it as good as possible and also produce it physically as a model um yeah and it it should be let me make it nice e-map turntable there we go um so so then it would it will look quite quite nice once we've spent those 32 hours for now as a starting point i kind of enjoy it i like the overall shape i think that's that's a good start um i finish one one last thing those of you who are not familiar with sub d um this is not a mesh right so the only difference between sub d and maya sub d and blender and sabine rhino is that in rhino it's uh a sub d object is actually a like a separate entity which can be transformed into a polysurface uh so i don't remember how it's called yeah convert objects to nerves so the command is two nurbs two nerves i delete and put objects yet sub the options we can kind of change the the sub the options but that doesn't matter enter and this is now nurbs geometry and nurse the nurbs geometry is is is is seamless not seamless but but the curvature of it it doesn't have any any resolution meaning that for manufacturing purposes it makes much more sense to to to use rhino rhino subdi than mayas or or blenders that's the biggest benefit at least for me if i explode this you can see separate portions of it i'll probably the last bit of detailing that i'm gonna do i'll do it with traditional two methods traditional modeling methods but i'll try to do like 99.9 percent of it all with subd just to learn the tool uh how is it spinning around it's called turntable uh turn table and to make it also look nice you use e-map oops e-map like that and you can choose a different kind of emap turntable make it slower just like that actually this is the one that's used to to check for continuity errors in the surfaces is the zebra pattern uh space needle what the hell is that i don't know or you can use fluorescent tube as well that's a lot of questions right there am i planning a high detailed version of this model in blender no in blender i'm going to model out a separate separate project it's going to be a motorbike so stay tuned for that but that's going to be probably in february what's the longest model you've ever worked on including textures um i wonder i wonder i wonder what's the longest mall i would probably say just a thing if it's just a single 3d model if it's just a single 3d mall then it would probably be one of the houses or one one of the houses that i've done um you know because you you spend so much time detailing it out if it's a project in itself i would say my it would probably be some grasshopper script like where i tried to make an ai decide what kind of brick to put actually i'll make a series of videos about that how to make this kind of pseudo artificial intelligence with with grasshopper and pseudo is the key word there like really really dumb uh ai that's basically a bunch of if then statements and do i use no i use photoshop my university just provides photoshop for the teachers so you know wait is like an alternative to photoshop or am i just talking nonsense right now yeah image manipulation program yeah yeah um hello from australia great channel thank you thank you i'll i'll try to make it even better in 2021 okay we are done i will stop the stream here uh the recording of the stream is going to be available for for everyone who's wanna watch it and i will see you in the next one in a few days okay where's the button peace bye bye see ya wait i i need to make this bigger now where am i yeah there's me okay bye guys see ya bye bye bye bye
