and turning like over the last couple of days because there's so many things I want to talk to you about but let's start with that song Papa would tell me little bit about it the question is what's a good father a bad father okay I think that's the meaning of the song with no answer unfortunately or hopefully I don't know who but yeah I think when you were teenager do you think that maybe you could be better than your father and you actually used to say to him that he's not perfect but actually when I wrote the song realized that actually I just had to wait to be a father to understand what's what's about what is about being a father I don't know if sorry for my English but I don't know if you get no I totally do I clearly do I am a father and I also had an absent father and it's definitely that like okay I don't know what this is really is until you you have one but on that point this these are very deep subjects that aren't often sung about in pop songs mhm so you're covering a pretty broad range of emotions and experience and I'd love to know like what what's the motivation for that for you where do we're like you know you could be just singing about love and good times and bling but you're having fun and having fun I don't know why but it's the I it's just difficult for me and it's obvious that's actually it's obvious for me to talk about something you know who decided that that you can't talk about something a bit sad or melancholy or whatever on on a dance track on a pop pop song just that yeah I feel that like this and because maybe I used to listen to this kind of music here because of people like when a Vista Social Club says re Evora it's like you know those kind of dents track but at the same time melancholic tracks and I think that's exactly like how life is you know because you know it's not about only having fun or only about sadness it's just the both at the same time the same time and I used to compose like this but but it's working because you become are ridiculously successful and thank you and and it's and it's just getting better you're in the states right now this is the second time you're on a tour you've got a full roster of amazing places you're gonna be in Portland and then you're going to be in LA at Club Nokia and you're finishing off on the 16th at Las Vegas the center of the belly of the beast of the United States yeah and your music that sense of like happiness and sadness the melancholy I think is going to be received there ridiculously well I hope please thank you I want to I want to I want to talk more about love to hear another song possible let's play I was talking about cesaria evora let's talk about her this truck is a tribute to her I don't know if beautiful yeah no we love cesaria evora she she's the first time you played here at the Showbox market that was one of the last time places she played Oh barefoot and all I did open for her it was an amazing experience I don't even understand one word no it doesn't matter honey he doesn't matter you're just crying when she she was singing this is true this is Aria they bought up [Music] ha ha ha ha ha [Music] dizzy fluke - um gotta walk and control elected human fit on say you build it work complete cigarette chemo be tomato knobby to the man get rid of us a call a kilometer between male pump you ever I ever kill him applicant got near it what I dream to build you see sunny for you do have a si si si si si si si don't walk Philip for Mia for we know a gossip it was in member pturner same never do is show to a more comic book one mwah I love lilies oppa who will be ample leptin politican water just a bit mr. city we did ever aha you turning blue however I played on Connie if I ever in the Belarus aside to tell true [Music] [Music] [Applause] if I ever remember my fur a little Danny if I bring the bell uses Sonny Boy [Music] [Music] stromae live on what pop and kxb those beautiful thank you very much Paul would you introduce the band please so manually of couse tinnitus he's the cavaquinho player guitar player you actually they can they could play every instrument they want they'll just have that crazy talent yes exactly so Madhuri and Florian Rossi so he's he's half Italian half Belgian and Manolis of Greek are French I said well gee sorry French yes and Manolis how Greek and Belgian okay and you are Rwandan have Belgium exactly I want to like I've been following your career for a while as many but I want to do little introduction to people that might not know you because you're you're trying to do something right now that hasn't happened in a very long time and I don't think it's ever happened in French to get a number one record in the United States and you could do it because you've got you've got the package so yeah so but you you I'm getting everything from the internet so it could be lies so I'm just warning you right now and I apologize if it's wrong but you got started in hip-hop yes that was your first love music yes my first love that I decide to listen to you know I choose to listen to okay you know compared to when you listen when you're younger and you listen to the music of your parents so but it's okay I'm sorry okay no no it's fine no it's true the same same thing um and now you're living in Brussels yes okay in Brussels so but you've actually become a sensation in a french speaking world and your this is your second record right yes it is okay so on your second record you your song becomes the national anthem for the French I mean for the Belgian soccer team and the World Cup as they advance you're getting this attention for what you do from all over you start to clothing lines one clothing line you repeated these like yeah actually it's the two different collections but yeah when clothing line yes and then as I dig deeper do you have a huge depth I mean talking about Cubans on Buena Vista Social Club Congolese rumba and all that so that's a lot of stuff there that's foreign influences different different influences and and and actually able to so you're somebody who's not from Belgium came in from all the place and now has become the the voice of your people in your country what is that like but actually I'm from there I cannot say you know I'm half African but I used to say account 40% African and 60% Belgian even if genetically I'm half and half but you know when you're born in raised in Europe it's difficult to say yeah you know I'm I'm from you know I know Africa very well you know you can't say that but I know Africa through the prism European prism actually so it's difficult to say and yeah so of course I'm half-and-half and I and I know my culture but not so well as an a real randon mm-hmm but yeah that's pretty funny to be - don't have you know don't have the the the local color of course yeah I'm just and be supported like that and considered as a real Belgian because I'm a real a Belgian actually I'm a real so yeah that's just history and it's important to live with with it and yeah that just history and that's what's really that's our next step of our planet I guess I totally agree and that was that that was my next point is that the conversation I've had with other people about you is that you're actually representing the entire human experience it's a big thing to say and I'm sorry he've thank you but but it's like this is Africa and this is Europe and this is the 21st century and video and fashion and in song so thank you America and South America as well and maybe Asia I don't know very well the music in Asia but I'm looking forward to discover everything and put some influences in my music I think I think you're gonna do it and I look forward to just following your success more and more thank you would love to hear my music please let's talk about somebody drunk okay we know that see I don't know actually it's more about loneliness the track is more about loneliness and it's called formidable because the word exists in English yes I discovered yeah so for me double formidable foe meet up to the Fermi double G they follow me nothing lose it young for me dub Wow we table to there for me double urgently foaming up use it you for meetup Habibi who's hot wasn't trip up with hockey oh my shoe a shoe city but ahem the free air time strip up fell down fireball fire oh yeah Sammy Nietzsche just about to take booty pop laughs oh boy Polly may come one the mood shows affair movie ahem she did for me ee ee firming up to the to warm it up [Applause] a pony double agent lose it your fault hey Stella garden cheat wah buh-bah sputum are you sick and I know make some alpha in but lucky coming in a full chakra if we load feet chilly on a parlay Stephen sweetie coming south selling lay helps you see Steve ozone Evita I don't wanna sit down I've really seasick or ewg big for me do it [Applause] we develop treated for ewg people enough use it don't worry [Applause] ma petite Oh booty say da la vie can you make Shana Shanti see mom I shot ski rebelled at mommy see Papa Tom mama smash your mama via ferrata tools da Gama piscivores of a tooth I'm gonna become a science room I will visit South Bundy macaque [Music] [Music] holy delusion use it [Music] stromae live on whopping XP that was great your own character perfect and it's a beautiful video and it caused by the sensation actually thank you so much tell me a little bit about your thought process on videos which are just as important as the as the recordings right now actually when I were composing the track for me dabble in my home studio alone it was obvious for me found yeah I just wanted to to play to act to fake that I was drawing in the street and asked him the director Zhong Gil and he helped me and directed me to do the good thing never be too much or too less not over yeah and we worked a lot and yeah which is just this hidden camera in the street in Louise square on in Brussels and actually people was just recognizing me but at the same time ignoring me taking pictures of me yeah it was just a definition of humanism what we are human being we could be just vilest ignorant or help helpful not helpful but actually give a hand so we just had all those different behaviors in this street and I was pretty surprised to see how we we are good you human being is really good we are so and really nice that's good that's wonderful I did that's a great learning process but let me let's talk about the United States right now for a second because you're here right now you're doing this tour and you're starting to work with some pretty big names Lord Diplo Kanye West great old school Grace Jones will.i.am what's that like for you to to are you feeling like I'm up here I'm you know I'm just there or is it like this this process of like a are they treating me like I'm this unique little boutique thing there's a collaborative or is it more yes it is it depends you I think it's it has to be Jean wine and for example the truck meltdown for the soundtrack of Mockingjay Mockingjay I'm sorry yes it was she decided to call my manager and I was surprised and I sent two tracks one called mercy on my album and another one a new composition that you don't know but and she decided to choose the one of my album and she just yeah and it was really interesting to see how it was important to have my advices my opinion for the different collaborations she wanted to have with Pusha T with I'm with all those beautiful performers singers and songwriters so and yes sometimes it could be that I think the danger is to do something too artificial and just to do for doing this you know yep because you have to and and all those because that collaboration was just Jean whinin and I'm happy of it so I'm really thankful to all those beautiful singers wonderful so this this is the this is the dilemma that often happens is that like you come in and then you get this pressure to stop being you and become more America American that's the day yeah but it's good I think it's good you have to integrate yourself I don't know if it's so it's important to do it but not in the wrong way yeah and yeah I think just the easiest way of course is just you know do this kind of translation easy translation and and I don't think so I'm sure that American people could feel and can feel the emotion the feelings the sincere feeling and if I try to just imitate an American singer there they will directly feel it and it's yeah it's more interesting to sing in your own language which is more sincere I guess so I totally agree and I've got everything you've got the package down I think I think you're going to to be able to stand out under the pressure and it is a pressure cooker thank you thank you I would love to hear some more music please ah then the last the last song is an a cappella version of to slim M which is a song about love but not the cliche and [Music] the positive way of love is also negative way which is interesting yeah and yeah that's just beautiful [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] no because mm yeah - c'est la vie [Music] [Music] just remember just remember just remember you're a mom we just remember just remember just remember just remember just remember just remember Jana MA remember remember remember you got it into what pupcake space throw my live in a studio that was ridiculously amazingly good thank you very much thank you the way you say that I'm just I'm just I'm like I've heard there probably is no pressure balance ridiculously amazing yeah it's just you know yeah you know wonderful magic it's like what's gonna happen thank you that was wonderful please come back again thank you to phenom up and thank you thank
