back to mile bay we uh got a pretty big episode today i've got just another really silly idea i seem to come up with these every every like couple of months and i've just got another idea but i'm going to need your help with it i'm going to talk a bit about that later on this episode because we are doing some very important stuff in this time lapse so there's quite a lot of stuff to talk about in this time lapse we uh we hit the next milestone in the last episode which means that we can start zoning out some higher density buildings um mostly interested in those high uh high density residential buildings because it's been a bit of a challenge just to bump up that population building the way that we're building in male bay it's a definitely real challenge i'm enjoying it i mean i'm complaining but i'm also very much enjoying the challenge but uh yeah it's a bit of a challenge to get that population rising when i'm zoning out quite quite carefully and trying to be a little bit um careful of what i'm doing so what we're up to now is we're zoning out some areas within the downtown and i thought that this would be a good opportunity to change a bit of the downtown because it's pretty it's pretty ugly i'm not i'm not a fan uh i'm trying really hard not to do too much detail especially this part of the series where we're going to be changing so much of it anyway and you can see that we've zoned out some high density areas just replacing some of the low density and we're trying to do it closer to the downtown but also trying to keep you know this whole area a little bit more commercial there's gonna be more offices round two which i didn't actually zone out in this episode so maybe i probably should have done that um and some just some upgrades to the roads too because we're gonna be getting a lot more people coming into this area so wanted to just give a little bit more infrastructure for that but um right now we are doing something just a touch sneaky this is a real real sneaky move and what we're doing is i'm actually making this whole downtown into a university a campus i'm going to be using the tech campus to use some of these buildings because i just think that they don't get used very often i know i don't use them very often and it's a real shame because the tech buildings are really nice i don't think they make a very good university to be honest i think they look better as more i guess just regular buildings within the city you know you can kind of just place them around your entire city and they would fit into any context i think a couple of them maybe not so much like the cafeterias and you know there's a couple of other things that might not fit in with just general large buildings but a lot of these are really nice just to be placing around your city so we are going to be using this not as a campus i mean it is technically a university so you can still think about it as that way but i'm imagining that this big building that we've just placed down is probably something more like the town hall or i guess maybe could still technically have something to do with the university it does look very big within this context i mean the city at this stage it is still a little town and we are technically at the little town milestone so we're not even at a city yet but i think it looks like a really nice town hall i think one of the nicest town halls even on the workshop you know there's some really nice workshop town halls but i really like this i think this is a great looking building so that's what we're using it for i've also placed down a dormitory which again just looks like a pretty generic big building to me and i think this is a really good way of expanding out some of these areas without having to download much from the steam workshop uh it's something that you could probably even do on console because you know just placing down some of these big buildings you know if you've ever thought i'm really limited with what i can do because i can't download much or i am using console edition there are some sneaky little tricks you can do and i think this is just one of them and in this we're only really going to be placing down a couple of these buildings because i i couldn't actually get the university to level up any further might need your help on this because i'm not very good at the game actually i'm just not that good of the game besides playing creatively um but i couldn't get it to level up so we've only really placing down a couple of them but you just wait i've got a really cool idea for another one of the buildings just coming up but in terms of all this area i mean i just wanted to expand out a bit of the parking and just placing down some um some more houses um apartments and some commercial but really i think we're gonna do an absolute overhaul of the downtown probably maybe next episode or the episode after i plan to do some stuff did i mention we're going to be doing some stuff for the trams in this episode yeah like there's gonna be a live play after this so i'm sure that's probably in the thumbnail but uh yeah there's a live play coming up and we'll do some we'll do some streetcar tram stuff i don't know what we're gonna be doing yet but that's what i'm planning to do at this stage uh but how good is this i mean we've got a park over here and i'm trying to remember what this building is i can't even remember what this building is uh sure you guys can tell me i've forgotten what it is but man it looks pretty good in that park i mean pretty simple stuff but it's definitely um it's definitely got a bit more of an old uh colonial building sort of thing going on that i think would probably fit well in a park so i've just placed it in there and i think it looks pretty nice now we're just giving the downtown a bit of a rest because there's this big area over on the right hand side and i needed to just zone it out at the moment it was just farms and it wasn't really doing its job felt like we've got a downtown so close farms don't really cut it so in order to get a bit of an idea what we can do over here as well i needed to figure out some of the roads so we are working on some of the roads and thinking about where the main roads are going and how they're stretching across this river and i mean i was going to save this for a whole episode but we're going to be using a bunch of these drawer bridges there's a mod on the steam workshop and it's just something that i've been wanting to do for a very long time this bridge goes up and down like a little lift which is pretty cool and i mean as soon as we've got some ferries or some other boats going around you'll see that just happen and i plan to have a lot more of these bridges around too this has been something i've been wanting to do for quite a while particularly in mile bay i just thought that this would be uh just a really fun little feature uh there's a couple of there's a couple of things with this bridge but i think i might save uh might talk about that in the live play because we are like i said i've got i've got a lot of things to talk about i haven't even started talking about the main thing it's coming up i swear i'm going to talk about something in a sec it's going to be really fun what we're doing right now is a little bit more expansion of some of these residential areas and you know i'm just trying to think what the types of neighborhoods and suburbs are going to be around these areas and i'm thinking this is sort of closer to the swamps this is uh further out of the city i know it's still sort of close to the downtown but i'm sort of imagining this is pretty far away not that far away but it's far away it's not that close but i decided to do something a bit different and put in some government housing around this area i decided to do a slightly different type of road network and i also wanted to have these houses look pretty much exactly the same so we are using some vanilla houses but these work so well spliced together using plop the growables find it and i believe some sort of anarchy maybe making it so that i can place these together but i think this is what i really love about using minimal minimal amounts of assets is just how you can splice things together sometimes even the vanilla ones and i think it works really really well it also means that you know i'm not being really finicky about you know what sort of bushes i put down there and making sure that there's a fence around the the basketball court i'm keeping it really really simple and if i was to get really close yeah you'd probably see that some of those houses are weirdly spliced together or you know there's no trees but i kind of like there's no trees around there too so you know the minimal detail as well just means that i can expand out so much faster and man it's nice it's really really really nice because we're getting so much done uh speaking of so much done i just very quickly placed down a place academy probably a weird place to have a police academy but i sort of wanted to place um like a much larger building around this area it's completely bleeding me dry with money it costs a fortune so we're not making as much money as we used to we're now um losing a fair amount but i think this is where this series really um you know becomes a challenge because i'm of course i'm trying to make money but i'm also i'm also sticking my ways of if it looks good we're just gonna do it so there's a lot of times where we'll be like trying really really hard to make a bit of a profit trying to make things work and then there's other times where we're just gonna go you know what how cool does this thing look here let's just place that thing down and let's not worry too much about the uh the the expenses of it uh and that's probably obviously it's not smart but it's damn fun and that's why we're gonna do it speaking of damn fun i mean how cool is this little place so i really wanted to make slightly more custom looking graveyards and i think this is a good way of doing it using some decals these are just i don't know pavement decals and i'm just dragging that into a line and placing them down and you know what i think that looks pretty fine for a uh custom graveyard and uh keeping with the custom stuff we're now making a custom high school i uh decided to splice in a library with the high school because i think the buildings are pretty similar kind of works kind of doesn't i don't really care but uh you know what i'm gonna stop talking about what i'm doing on screen because i'm going to run out of time to talk about the thing that i'm most pumped about right now so i have been for the longest time trying to figure out a way of making interactive maps for each of my series i've always wanted to make a place where people can fly around see the places within the map the things that we're building the names all these things that people suggest but they just get lost in the comment section i place them within city skylines you know i name all these places these things and you might not even know or you don't really know because you're not playing you're not flying around the map so i've always wanted interactive maps so you could fly around and click on them and see these places i figured out a way i finally figured it out someone hit me up on twitter told me about a website called world anvil it's more for fantasy rpg sort of stuff i mean there's a lot of fantasy things that are going up on here so this is pretty much the perfect tool for me to make these maps basically i'm going to need some help putting all the information all the overlays pictures links to videos all that really great interactive stuff that's going to make these maps really really fun to explore even getting the names from you guys you know so many names get suggested getting those names onto these maps i'm going to need some help so luckily the world anvil subscription i have i'm able to add up to 10 co-creators to my world anvil website and then all those great suggestions that people leave in the comments they don't get lost we can keep them they sit up on this site on these maps it'll be great now unfortunately i can only choose 10 co-creators so there is an application process down below basically just asking how would you contribute to making these maps nothing too crazy and then for everyone else just keep suggesting and naming things down below i mean networks but we're going to save that for next episode let's get into a live play and start up working on a bit of a tram line all right guys we're going to finally get to placing down some tram lines within saint marie but before we do i want to talk just very quickly about some of the things we're doing in the time lapse because i was just a little fast uh and we did some kind of important things starting with the campus we just built within our downtown so we could place down some of these bigger buildings i don't know if you guys are going to use that trick but i kind of like it it means that we can place down some cool buildings like this which i think are just a fantastic fit for a town hall and i mean it's just doing really badly as a uh as a university so if you guys got some tips and tricks that would be great because i am just bleeding through money maybe i should just drop that a little bit like how do you get this little higher you know i'm sure that probably tells us how but you know let's we're just going to skip past it because i want to build some trams we've also got this i mean this is just a bit of a placeholder until we figure out how it's going to look i do want this here but we'll just add some more detail when we get to the shore front of these areas which i think is going to be super fun and then this whole area over here is a pretty distinct neighborhood uh i guess it's kind of like two neighborhoods or maybe even three neighborhoods depends how you want to see it but what i wanted to do was i wanted to show a very big difference between this area of st marie and then this area i don't know if you can really tell but this is more of a historical area so we've got much much more historical older houses but also the types of trees we've got i mean look at these big old trees that we got we got lots more of them over here and over here but not so much on this side because i wanted this to feel a little bit more like newer development and i think that's kind of got that thing going on for it the only thing that's kind of bothering me at the moment is like this new development that we built i mean the houses they're not they're not very nice uh and unfortunately they're gonna be like that for quite a while because they're all just slowly leveling up i mean that's not too bad i mean that's not too bad as a modern house but something like that is looking pretty sad so they're gonna slowly level up i mean we just gotta wait for it to happen and then this will look more like a new development at the moment not so much and that's our high school and our a little place to build all right let's let's let's get to some trams all right so what i'm thinking for this tram line is i would like to keep it fairly historical we're going to be doing street cars i think i've actually got a street yeah okay so this is what we're going to be using so these are like some old street cars of new orleans and that's what we're going to be going for so not hugely high capacity vehicles and definitely something that's not going to be you know getting like mass amounts of people to and from um big big touristic areas uh but you know i still wanted to serve the town pretty well serve the city pretty well so just a few lines maybe like three or four and i want them to pretty much serve i guess like more around areas like this we're not going to travel too far out at least not at this not at this stage and potentially over this side but again we'll see how we go so first things first i mean we've got a bunch of different assets that i've grabbed from the workshop just to start playing with someone so we've got uh some cobblestone roads and some avenue roads and i mean we've got some really great things to choose from but i guess first things first tram depot i mean where should we put it i mean this is probably one of the nicest vanilla buildings so i would like it to be front and center you know something that you see pretty well so i actually think this would look really cool somewhere around here just ignore these pipes that are just polluting our waters you know somewhere around here might be nice and then we'll have this bridge i mean at the moment it's looking pretty sad but that bridge is gonna look really nice at some stage so maybe even like in the corner here actually see this road here this road i'm gonna upgrade right now because well i mean particularly this guy but i actually think we're going to have something fairly important out this way so i think this would be a great area to actually have the streetcar travel along so maybe let's just start with a bit of a line going out here so i think the streetcar should actually follow this entire avenue like that and i'm half tempted just to potentially put it over this way but i don't know it kind of doesn't feel like would reach an area like this so i think we'll probably maybe make it terminate around here nah it probably would actually come over at least to the police academy so let's make it cross and it can come over and it can terminate here and you know what actually kind of like this road a little bit more particularly around here it's quite wide and there's also this addition of the bike lane so let's just make this whole area this really big wide road um but down here i mean this is what i really really hate about these tram lines is that you actually have to make so they don't just terminate and then go back the other way you've got to make some sort of some sort of little little turnaround and i mean it's kind of annoying because i mean trams don't really do that light rail doesn't really do that so i guess we're just gonna have to do that for the time being i mean the reason why i'm sort of thinking the tram line coming out this way is because this road i'm sort of anticipating will eventually come out towards here and we might have something a little bit more substantial out this way this is what i'm sort of thinking about the airport just just to maybe so this will all be developed up so this road would actually look really quite nice going out towards there plus i kind of think that it's a bit strange at the moment having this massive road kind of just ending in this dirt road heading towards the uh big swampy area so look that's just a that's just a wait and see we're gonna get to this area pretty pretty soon especially when we start building up this train line maybe next episode all right let's let's stick with what we're doing we've got this line that we're working on and i think we need to finish it off i think we're going to build something kind of big here i'm kind of anticipating we're going to put some sort of central park or like some big parkland here you know what let's let's maybe just do a little bit of it right now [Music] all right i'm kind of committing to this park idea i got some regrets only because i didn't expect to be building an entire park in this episode but all right we're doing it so this is what i'm thinking i think we'll have like a big park around here and then we can have this uh yeah this uh this tram line actually coming towards maybe like some sort of like interesting historical building out here all right i found the building we're gonna use this guy uh it is the academic library it's gonna cost a fortune of course um we're gonna just place it down anyway i mean yeah not thinking about it we're doing it but i mean that looks pretty good right there yeah beautiful and you know because we're already in a park i don't really mind doing a turnaround in here kind of feels like you can feels like you can kind of justify it so we'll do a turnaround there and you know we've already i guess we've already started doing this park haven't we i should probably do some detail so yeah all right let's jump into a quick time lapse make this park an actual path [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] and then the last thing that i want to do here is just fix up the edges of the park because it's still a little bit swampy and not particularly nice i would like to make it potentially some sort of rock wall or even using a bit of the key which i've actually got some of the new keys that were released for that dlc that was released i don't know back in july i think so i might even try using some of them and see what sort of effects we could get but first i might just flatten this area out all right these are the ones i was thinking of i haven't used these yet and they're actually parisian so which does sort of fit our french theme we haven't really done a huge amount of stuff like that yet but i guess uh now it'd probably be pretty good time to do it so many to choose from i mean let's just drag a couple of them around and see how they look i didn't really want to do it around the entire park but you know a big chunk of it would be quite nice let's make this a smidge lower i think that would work a bit better and then we could even you know this is kind of interesting where the land is still poking out a little bit down there so i might even just keep a bit of the swampiness still kind of poking out and maybe that could work and then just some trees just to line it and i think that's all i'm gonna do for this i mean it's pretty nice the way it is uh so much detail on this wall i mean it's really nice so i'm gonna leave it at that because i do think at some stage we're probably going to get maybe even like a ferry terminal somewhere around in this area that could be kind of nice i mean this is really ugly disgusting we're going to fix this up i've actually got some plans for this but i mean i can't get sidetracked this is meant to be a tram episode where we've done one line that's it um but you know what i think that line's pretty much done i know it doesn't travel a really far away i mean it's only really from that point to this point but it's not exactly a big city at this stage so we're going to leave it at that and we're going to do the next line um oh you know what let's let's actually do those stops first and then we'll do the next line so i think we'll do one at the very end we'll probably do another one another one right here and then we'll do one right in front and there we go even unlocked in achievement fantastic uh let's make sure that we're going to get those trends coming through excuse me we don't want you come on get out of here let's make sure that we're getting the right trams coming along that line oh yeah so good a whole fleet of them uh maybe maybe too many okay we don't need that many of them so i might just actually tone down how many we're actually gonna get driving around on the streets uh i'm realizing that i don't have a mod that i usually have because usually i've got a lot more options no i'm definitely missing a mod okay give me give me this one second we're back improved transportation mod that's what i wanted so now we've got way more control which is what we need because we don't need 10 street cars driving on this network if anything we need like a pretty low number i know that's not the best type of public transport especially for a city that has barely anything but i just think it's going to be a little bit more realistic we should probably remove some of these vehicles so we'll remove some of these guys and honestly i think just two is okay i think that's fine that's what we really need we don't need a purple line though let's make it a green line wonderful and let's go and find some of these bad boys alright so we'll see how these guys go i mean their capacity is not too bad but not too great either so we'll see how they go they'll work themselves out next line i would like to do another line but probably make it so that it connects to one of these one of the green lines but then shoots up this i'm going to call this a bit of a it's a bit of an avenue so i might even continue these one-way lanes and even keep them going all the way up to here we can um change that direction like that and i think that might be my next line you know wonder just goes up through here and maybe connects to that stop so i think this one's going to be fairly simple we're just going to start our line at this station here now i'm just going to say over here i'm potentially going to put and it's probably going to be in the next episode actually who am i kidding it's going to be the next episode but we're going to do a central station and there's going to be a pretty significant transport hub where uh the streetcar will have something a little bit more than what's going on right here that's not gonna hold that many people and i also think that we're going to have maybe even three lines connect to it so whatever we do right now is going to be fairly temporary because i believe we're going to make something a little bit more substantial just a bit later next episode let's just say that so rather than it connecting right here let's instead let's drag it here for the time being all right so thinking about this area i guess logically we could have the trade line just as simple as following the one-way road kind of like this i mean it could be as simple as that so it could be as simple as this we could just follow the road like so but we also have this avenue i mean i'm so tempted to do something in the middle of this avenue at the moment we've got these big oak trees we could keep that or we could have both i mean let's just let's just see let's see what this looks like so i do have this grass network which i think would actually look a lot a lot more interesting um it's going to be pretty ruined in here no it's not working so i do have this network this grass one which i really like but the problem is is that i would like this whole area to be grassy you know this whole avenue this whole medium in the middle would be really nice if this was like a cool grassy area maybe even tree-lined i love the width of it so it's just a shame that we've still got all this concrete just surrounding it i really do not want that maybe if i get rid of yeah that's not gonna work either hmm all right i've got to use my smarts here i do have these grass decals i could use like potentially if i was just to connect them like this i mean you do get that overlay uh we don't want that and then if i sunk them into this could that work oh that's not really working actually you know what would work this is i really hope this works i'm going to grab all these nodes and we're going to make all this area all the same height and then if we were to sink this down just to smidge so it's at a slightly lower height than the road and then we make sure the grass is at the same height and then what if we lower this now will that give us a nice grassy medium in the middle yes yes how good is that brilliant that is exactly what i want oh yeah i didn't think that was gonna like it all right so maybe the median just goes for that little tiny area because we will need we will need those that road connected so we'll just have that medium go for just a tiny little little area maybe even up until about there and i reckon that's not a totally essential road so we'll get rid of him oh man okay this is this is gonna be uh a little harder than i expected oh man all right uh i'm gonna need to figure out what we're gonna do here [Music] so [Music] so [Music] oh man i can't believe that ended up working but we got there in the end it's a bit wonky but i'm totally fine with that i kind of like it and our tram line continues all the way through here does a little loopty loop and comes back the other direction i mean it would have just been so much easier if i just decided to put it on these roads but i don't know there's something about this that i really like even if it is pretty short-lived and then we get to this guy i mean uh i don't really know i'm going to connect it back up um i do have a bit of an idea though so i've just been thinking about my main station for saint marie i'm thinking about where i'm going to put it originally i was going to put it around here now i don't think i'm gonna do that anymore because i think that this was probably better suited at least the train line that comes around here would probably i mean we don't really have enough room for a train station and it's not exactly the most connected area whereas somewhere around here i think would be a little bit more connected we've got a couple more lines coming around we've got a bit more room i think a main train station would work there a lot better which means that we don't really need this anymore and it would be really good to connect this to this line i mean realistically yes that's what it should be doing so let's just try a couple of things and cross our fingers and our toes maybe [Music] [Music] i actually can't believe it but this isn't looking too bad i can i can work with this so the traffic is flowing just just okay a couple of things i want to change just about the network we're losing a lot of this green area now i don't really care too much about this one because that's where i'm going to put a uh a stop there but this one if i drag up the node just so i can meet it up that way we should be able to get a little bit more green around here oh and this little bit of grass sticking up i mean i wonder if i can get rid of that if i just there we go beautiful maybe i don't know you definitely wouldn't call that beautiful but uh i i can i can live a bit we're just gonna add in some decorations and then i think this is gonna look pretty nice and i think that's just about as much detail as i'm gonna put into this at the moment we'll get back to it i've kept it pretty simple we've got just a couple of intersection lines using the intersection marking tool i keep it very very simple just some dotted lines that's it uh and we've added in just some little shrubs some bushes but these massive trees too that are just clearing the tram line which i'm totally fine with i know it's pretty close but i kind of like how close it is and then this is where our station's going to be so ideally it'd be great for it to stop here but i think just for the moment we're going to maybe oops wrong way but just for the moment i think we'll just map it out like this so we'll do this there and then another stop at the cemetery i mean not much of a stop but uh sure uh you know what i feel like that's a little close let's maybe put that one there instead and then oh my gosh does a door fall oh gosh how do i feel about that uh all right let's just let's see what that looks like i mean i'm not totally sold on that it's gonna be a pretty tight turnaround i mean it's a bit tight but i can i can live a bit and i'm i'm just going to live a bit hey i've also grabbed one of these guys i mean this is a uh i mean that's pretty amazing this thing is from paris and it is obviously very old but i love it i think it looks so cool we are taking some influences from france so i think it does make sense to have something like this so uh yeah i mean maybe just the one just before we make our last tram line i do want to just have a quick look at something because i'm looking at these roads here this tram line i'm thinking all right it's i mean it's very detailed it looks very nice and i do like this platform for where we actually have the stations but it's a big it's a bit gray it's a i would like to have another grass strip uh including this bike lane too now i was just looking on the network that clues has made it says here there's two center tram lanes one's a platformer one's a grass and all you have to do is change the name of the road and then it changes it for it so i mean changing the name of the road i guess if i if i'm going to display road names and then what if i go in here and call it something different oh my gosh that is that is really really cool all right well there we go problem solved we've got some grass mediums now that is pretty that is pretty amazing um i'm going to turn off road names because i don't really like road names but that is really really cool our last line is going to well i mean it might be a little bit of a work in progress they're all a bit of a work in progress because we're going to figure out the train station a little later i would like this line to go along this side of st marie and potentially connect up to the train line so maybe even standing here going through the middle of the downtown maybe even coming up here unfortunately we can't actually have a line going oh mate come on figure it out basically we can't have a tram line coming this way because it's going to interfere with this and we've already got problems going on down here so instead i think it might look cool if the tram line came through here went up went through the suburbs we could have a bit of a connection to this one this station here and then it could stretch all the way down to somewhere like this which this could be another area of interest you know we've got a little commercial district we've got the downtown this might be another area that we could build something kind of interesting all right i have to admit i got a little bit lazy with this one just because i'm thinking there's going to be a fair amount of changes with this line particularly around the train station and also whatever we end up doing around here but i mean in terms of like targeting the areas i think we're targeting a pretty good amount of space of course we don't have anything going out this way or anything going out here or even in here but you know i think for a streetcar and for a city of this size i think this is probably the most realistic we are hitting the main areas but we're going to have to figure out what else we're going to use in terms of public transport getting people around i mean buses would be a good one a train is going to be like a train network is going to be the next thing we do i'm getting ahead of myself i haven't even spoken about this line basically this one is going to be more just focusing on the streets so we've got a lot of um older streets as you can see which are pretty nice just got to stop within the downtown then we've also got one out here this one's a great stop because it's actually connecting up to the yellow line quite nicely and then hitting this area and then stopping here and then it's going to terminate and then do a full circuit something else i'm thinking so i did mention i want to put something down in this area some sort of commercial district but i'm also thinking that this corner could potentially be repurposed into some sort of small zoo which i think would be a nice addition to the park by the way with all these areas we do need to name up i did mention that in the beginning of the episode but i mean name suggestions ideas i'm going to show you the map just one last time if you've got any ideas for expansion uh this little corner too i think will probably get removed and we'll probably drag it up here connecting up to the train station but that main train line all this dirt road ugliness that's all going to be totally replaced with a beautiful trend line that i'm hoping i mean the plan is for the episode next week is to connect up our little towns so they have better connection with saint marie i think that's going to be really nice and then potentially getting some cargo because we've got pretty um pretty substantial cargo well not cargo industry happening within uh all of mile bay that we do need to start connecting up but you know that might be its own episode um and something else now that we've started working around the downtown i would like to start detailing this up a bit because there is just a whole bunch of areas that just look really really ugly and i just want to get in there and just uh make it look much much nicer especially getting in some of those french influences definitely on the cards but guys that is it for
