when I wake up now I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who makes up next week today we're going to cover the lost railways of Stockport we're going to start here in the center support work westward on the Cheshire line until we hit a major junction that's the one where the line goes underneath the Midland mainline this is the one that ran for Manchester Central through heat & Mersey and on to London after you cross the River Mersey you'll stay on the Cheshire line as far as Cheadle North Station will then go look at the other two yo station the one on the Ellen WR line before will move on to the Cheadle Heath area and that's certainly a big area to explore we'll then trace the middle of Main Line working our way back slowly to Manchester as far as heat and mercy anyway and for the final section we're going to return to Stockport where we will trace the Cheshire line through tibia Dale station and on to Billington tunnel right let the journey begin let's start at being queue in the centre Stockport looking westward enjoy looking through our teeth and mercy again the B&Q is immediately behind me who looks literally lost conceded a carpark immediately ahead but be more clue looking back on that last view that's where I was just standing I hate being here behind it until vitam turning around now I'm heading for hopefully see the hair heat emerges section severe judges commander turning round this should be the site of a heat & Mersey engine shed and as you can see there is absolutely nothing to be seen at our I won't just said do as a railway here back I was looking in this direction bloody thing to disgrace no sign of idle chatter Peter merci again not too many signs left [Music] right guys here we are at the first lady Junction of the trip this is eternity East Junction this was a spur that went between the lower line which was a Cheshire line and the upper line which was a Midland main line this used to cross directly across this line around here hopefully we'll see some viaduct shortly to introduce you to this area and hopefully plenty of finds mercy station [Applause] [Music] being immediately ahead we can see the viaduct it should fly over the land that we're walking on at the moment again this joins up with a heat and mercy branch so in theory that would go right along there across the land and join up with at spur you've just been looking at this again is a site that Peter Murphy shared and yeah nothing visible at our souvenirs field the game eight sit-ups per leading from this main line up towards eat & Mersey and if you look on the other side you can see where the viaduct that we're going to see in a second meets up with it hence they join up at Junction and lead on to Old Trafford the viaduct that leads over us yep again this is on the side of a heat & Mersey give you general Avoyelles shot on that and the other side again more like landfill not very obvious [Applause] here we have a second fire duck sits around two hundred yards down the line from that last shot this took the cheshire line onto our kingdom as you notice on the side here there's a spur or connect to the Cheshire line to the Midland main line that we written a line that went over the line on that previous apply adult so come on guys let's check this out looking towards that was missing lead onto Keadle and connects there I'm now on the other side of the river and like you say divide up two mediately a head should have been the one leading to heat & Mersey again connecting with outline of to Old Trafford that's the line I've just lost the location in this chat effectively this was the spur that went round to meet up with the Cheadle line the one which shall be rejoining Charlie this is looking towards Cheadle strange sign all right there's the other side of that viaduct and that first shot again leading towards Cheadle and like I say the line that's still standing was originally the curve that went round to Cheadle Heath again [Music] we should definitely decide to the signal box definitely [Applause] pathway a lot leading up to it it's definitely a signal-box very near Cheadle station now this looks like the sites of some sidings they were siding said certainly not you say the route had been very quiet very boring not a lot on it [Music] all right in a minute but cheadle station cheadle station see the old half box use on the railways you love the sight of this neck you really would perfect say I think it's a restaurant look at this say - it's beautiful some conditions play right down at the bottom like a no-good Papa garden center speed on station yep that's the other side of Cheadle station looks like it's converted house at the moment again there's no sign of the real platform what's the station structures are it perfect I'm on the main road now I'll have a look at that restaurant from the other side see if it gives any better clues I say mate it's like wow that's how they all should have been kept [Music] cachito the Latino station this may have been the entrance thank you for good vehicles anyway oh right so I say I left you at Cheadle station the other shot you saw was literally the bridge where the other Cheadle station used to be there's no sign of anything on there at all unfortunately I couldn't walk that section of track because there was some engineers on there being immediately ahead you can see the railway line ie that I should have walked and this is the size of the sidings other nice railway stopped you there a quickie on they say the same old biast our soul Galland and redevelopment still there's a few clues about look at Cheadle he station say this is the actual bridge where there were some sidings on side there this is looking towards Cheadle he station so I'm now literally near the site of Cheadle Heath station as you can see there's some steps here which indicates how he used to get to it and here's Cheadle huge station not a lot of clues left in these bricks were the obvious signs that there was an actual platform there interestingly enough the station looks like it was a four platform station an island in the middle who were sidings over to the left here it's naturally development since as taking everything away pretty well intact on the left side where the tracks not used anymore you understand on the right side not a lot left seems one hell of a big station very long indeed which surprised me symptom a line status you look over to the side there that's cited some sidings station siding surface yes and again the use have a stone platform edge mmm strange design strangest object found on the edge of the station I think it might be for the lamps she stated that either 1801 our 1881 force we have a few signs of the 1960s good old concrete those days to the side because he did the prequels very railways we knew obviously we developed and sense that tamale take each station see what cut in front of us that's why a few like about to change what was Cheadle he stationed lovelier aerial shot there doesn't show its true potential but like I say look like one hell of a station hey bud looks like the size of a signal box just come from that bridge now this like say it's a site you can see down a bit so you can see the line starts to curve it would normally go on which is a route that will be following be really heard that is where the viaduct would have ended and that is literally where the next shot is going to be taken this is where the line supposedly would have come up and going up with this with a curve going off to the latter no catch over there in a minute but vehicle good on the other side that's where line came from to here this is where the line leads to without connecting curve gradient Carlos what you will leading down the original stuff I'll say I'm literally at the junction now where the curve went down to stop Falls as you can see ahead old lady's getting rather heavy I don't think we're getting too much footage now until I reach the station as you can see mate it looks like end of the line basically after this road bridge the land looked like it's been redeveloped I have a quick scan on the other side otherwise well I'll tell you then that was the end of the line the land looks totally redeveloped there's no sign of the station whatsoever as you can see this is a shot walking back here's some lovely footage from the 1950s and 60s of this area during the steam age please enjoy and hopefully you'll identify some of the locations [Applause] north of Cheadle Heath the Midland line crossed the Cheshire lines committee route from northern done to Stockport Tibby at Dale at Heaton merci crap four to seven one four crosses the River Mersey bridge east bank before going under the Midland line coming south from Manchester central to cross the CLC line is Fairburn to 64 tank for two one double three on a local service to Cheever Heath coming north over the Midlands bridge built 1901 and demolished in 1974 is four F double five double three nine accustomed gently shared by the Midland and the Great Central Railways each company having four roads in eight Road shed British Railways shed classification coated it in our net four eight thirty five six and four eight three one nine both engines with a couple of months life in them join nine two one one eight four the journey to Newton Heath shed fire stop the activity of Dale and guide bridge she would have four dubious honor of working people mercy slash wast of steam turn to godly on the afternoon of the second of May 1968 your next shot will hopefully be the tunnel ativy it Dale so going back to Stockport town centre to walk the other way here we are near to it Dale like you say God B&Q it straight onto the line unfortunately it's been filled in [Music] they looked a pretty old tunnel from here certainly well filled in tunnel looks like from the other side amigo makes the 27th of April 1990 1995 good see you a nice shot of the older line that leads up to tibia Dale look like now here we go but see what still going makes beautiful Engineering us is best back another great joke tunnel now well no the tunnel bricks up hopefully next shot is Tuvia down the other side again I'm afraid pretty boring and pretty modern no signs of a station very severe landfill so again these no signs of a railway and he gets worse me it gets worse you can see mate [Applause] we have on the other side of that demolition work it looks like the mills coming down more so than the railway back to the railway again it's on the other side it looks like the old base I think these were useful cements by Chilcott as you can see the line is no more apparently these shoots are also used for cold this is a site of Parkwood good shed originally this is a very notorious site because this was all sold the location with the first station here at port would before Tveit Dellwood built let's have a look and let's see what we can find [Applause] just don't get on the outskirts just stuck for what I thought was a freight terminal unfortunately was the steelworks you treated at a track still available I've been using this is a storage area so most that space has been used though the dreaded conservationists have moved in we've made the railway line into a footpath the line kit sorry as you can see the line curves here I think this was a junction which the one on the Left been round eventually meeting up with a line that went on to reddish north and the one on the right which will be following takes us down to Bradbury no signs of it at the moment though very close to the cutting now and yes over there is the route I say the buter shortcut with this plot path this is the one I'm taking I'll give you a quick look at the one that we're not going down that's the one not going down come on he's called the reddish male one mile we're approaching a tunnel that's what it's all about you smells closed lips I don't know that's what the other side of the tunnel look like nicely restored if you can see there's still a few signs of the old tracks you
