[Applause] hi big tractor power fans this video comes to you from a field located in Southern Illinois where a pair of 450 engine horsepower series 3 stiger tiger st450 articulated four-wheel drive tractors are working on tillage with 50ft wide sunflower 1550 50 tandem disc Harrows in this video I would like to share with you the production history specifications and original price tag of the st450 as well as information about the 50ft wide sunflower disc but first let's out to the field so that you can see and hear this big tillage team at work the series 3 stiger tiger st450 became the largest tractor ever offered by the company to date when it was introduced in the fall of 1976 as a brand new model for 1977 9 months prior to the introduction of the tiger 3 the company had introduced its allnew Series 3 lineup of tractors at its annual dealer meeting in Florida on January 17th 1976 including a range of machines from 210 to 320 engine horsepower the series 3 tractors at the product launch were available in two different frame sizes the small frame size was the Wildcat model available as a standard and row crop model and the mid-range frame was available as a standard with a bearcat cougar and panther model available up to 320 engine horsepower these mid-frame models had an allnew design as well as sporting the new Safari cab which improved operator Comfort prior to the series 3 tractors the largest designation in the stiger lineup had been the tiger with the launch of the tractors in January of 1976 the panther st320 replaced the tiger st320 from the series 2 models the tiger tiger Story begins at the stiger brothers Farm located in Red Lake Falls Minnesota the brothers developed their first articulated tractor in the winter of 1957 and 1958 by 1968 they were were producing a full range of four-wheel drive machines the tiger began as the model 2250 and during this time period the company was moving from manufacturing tractors on the farm in Minnesota to a new Factory in Fargo North Dakota the 2250 was an allnew design for stiger in 1969 it is powered by a cumins 9003 V8 engine the first 10 models produced were were called 2250s starting in 1970 the tractor became the tiger 800 and then from 1971 through 1972 simply known as the tiger a total of 16 tiger 800s were built the 2250 and tiger 800 were the last Tractors manufactured at the stiger farm with a total of 26 between the two models with tractor production fully moved in the early 1970s to Fargo the company launched launched a new turbo Tiger 1 in 1973 the tractor continued to use the 14.6 L C's 9003 V8 engine previously used in the tiger 800 a turbo was added and it increased the horsepower from the original 310 to 320 engine horsepower a total of 95 turbo tiger 1es were manufactured into 1974 in 1974 the company launched the turbo tiger 2 which retained the 320 engine horsepower rating utilizing the turbocharged cumins 903 V8 engine the turbo tiger 2 had new styling with a sloped Hood the red Wheels were replaced by green ones red paint on the grill was replaced by black paint and the climate control cab had black trim paint all the way around it the turbo tiger 2 was manufactured through 19 1975 and replaced by the series 3 Panther st320 in January of 1976 the panther retained the 320 engine horsepower turbocharged cumins 903 V8 engine and was upgraded in 1977 to 350 engine horsepower as the panther St 350 which was manufactured through 1981 customers looking for a tiger siiz TR trctor with more horsepower than the panther st320 in the series 3 lineup had to wait 9 months for the launch of the st450 tiger this tractor introduced a whole new class of horsepower and size to the company's lineup tiger 3 introduced a new large frame size to the series 3 range of tractors previous tiger Tractors manufactured from 1969 through 1975 weighed between 20 24, 26,000 lb the st450 rolled off the assembly line in Fargo North Dakota weighing in at 4,360 lb and it can be field weighted up to 50,000 lb this big tractor's 450 engine horsepower is provided by an 18.8 L cumins kta 1150 turbocharged 6-cylinder 1,150 cubic inch engine it features an Allison CLT 965 full power shift transmission with a torque converter that locks in at 1700 RPMs it has six Ford and one reverse speed and can travel from 1.3 up to 21.6 M hour the st450 is equipped with a 385g diesel fuel tank and was manufactured from 1977 through 1982 its original price was 176,000 , 73 this represented a major investment for a farming operation in the late 1970s and early 1980s its capabilities for big tillage was definitely worth the investment but a major price jump from previous models the tiger 800 came in at $36,500 tiger 2 had a cost of $51,900 customers that did not want to jump up to the tiger sized tractor would pay $6,350 for the Panther 3 st320 and $ 94,6 184 for the Panther 3 St 350 in 1979 stiger announced that it would be introducing a second tiger 3 tractor for model year 1980 rated at 470 engine horsepower the st470 had identical specifications to the st450 and was manufactured through 1982 and had an original price tag of $1,452 in order to differentiate the two tractors stiger repowered the st450 from model year 1980 through 1982 with an 18 L caterpillar 348 turbocharged V8 1,100 cubic inch engine after model year 1980 the st470 quickly became the go-to tractor for Farmers looking for the tiger class size tractor only 20 St 450s were manufactured with the caterpillar 348 engine here we can see one of those rare St 450s with the Cat Power hard atw workk dising the sunflower 1550 5 Section tandem discar was introduced by AGCO on August 24th 2010 manufactured by the company in Beloit Kansas there were two different model mod available the 1550 47 which has a 47 ft wide cut and the 1550 50 which has a 50t wide cut you see a 50ft wide model working in this video that weighs in at 33,300 lb which equals 600 lb per foot in 230 lb per 24 in dis blade which allows the disc to work through in size heavy crop residue as well as breaking up hard soil conditions this 50ft wide disc Arrow features duplex Wing hinges and walking triple tandems which allow it to have 30 to 40% more flexibility than competing 5 Section disc arrows the 1550 50 will fold up to 18 ft wide for Road Transport and had a list price of 103,788
