hello aspiring Myers today I'm going to teach you how to play the murder mystery logic puzzle Myrtle each puzzle is unique and some are pretty tricky but if you follow these tips and tricks I'm sure you will be solving them on your own in no time and of course if you get stuck you can play along with me on my channel where I post daily solves let's dive in I like to start by identifying the puzzle type there are two types of myrtles ones that are all Clues and evidence or ones that have Clues and evidence and witness statements I personally find the ones that are all Clues and evidence a little easier but both of the types have varying levels of difficulty within them when it is just Clues and evidence I like to start by reading the red murder clue it will either reveal outright or provide a clue that connects a suspect weapon location or depending on the size of the puzzle possibly a motive that is connected to the murder if you can tell what it is right away you can either enter it under make your accusation or wait until the end if your puzzle has witness statements go ahead and start with your first item includes an Evidence you'll need to return to the statements at the end to identify your murderer looking at your Clues and evidence you should read each clue carefully and use the provided cards of suspects weapons locations and sometimes motives to determine the meaning just like the murder clue sometimes it's straightforward and sometimes it takes a bit of detective work I will share another video with all the clue types and suggestions on how to solve each of them when solving the clues r R only on the information given do not rely on guesses or outside information while some days you may find these connections to be a bit more tenuous the information will always be right there in the clues and clue cards you should not ever need to guess or extrapolate to get the answer once you've solved a clue you should Mark its meaning in your grid with a yes no or maybe just like in Sudoku you are looking at an intersection of a horizontal and vertical line and making a mark for something something that must be true in both of these intersecting lines one key difference however is that unlike Sudoku where you only have one grid myrtles have a minimum of three grids and the intersection rules are local to each of those three grids what does that mean well for each grid combo in this case let's assume a three- grid puzzle with suspects and weapons suspects and locations and weapons and locations each element in each grid has only one unique solution that means that each suspect only has one weapon in one location and one motive there will never be two suspects assigned to a location or two motives assigned to a weapon or two weapons assigned to a location etc etc one person one weapon one place one motive because there is this one toone relationship if you know where someone was you also know where they were not you can Mark a green check to show where the suspect was and a red X to show where they weren't you can then also determine that no other suspect could have been in that location location the same logic applies for weapons and motives as you fill in more clues you will notice that you may have two checks in one row or column that's totally fine as long as they are in separate grids but you should never have more than one check in each row or column within that one grid if this feels a bit confusing don't worry I will go over it again in Greater detail in another video once you've made your way through all the clues and evidence if you have witnessed statements it's time to return to those again I will review this in Greater detail in another video but my go-to strategy is to first check to see if there are any statements that must be true or must be false based on the information you have gathered so far if that doesn't crack the case I work down the line assuming that each statement is the lie and seeing if the other corresponding statements could be true if it were finally once you've either completed your Grid or otherwise identified the murderer with clues or witness statements you you can use the drop- down menus to make your accusation and say who you think the murderer is what their weapon was where they were and again with the larger puzzles what their motive was this should all match exactly what is shown in your grid and if you have the red murder clue it should match what is said there in terms of what the murder is you get a second chance before you hit submit to review everything and make sure it looks correct and once you do hit submit you get to see if you are right at the bottom you can check the time it took for you to solve the puzzle and and recently some new features were added including a place to check your Myrtle stats so click around and see what you find I hope this was a helpful starting guide for you be sure to check out the other videos in my tutorials playlist try the mini Myrtle and of course you can catch me here with daily solves if you ever get stuck thanks so much for watching
