STARLINK RV is now "ROAM" - New GLOBAL Plan

recently I did a video updating you on the price changes to starlink and the loss of the portability option for residential users well now there's another big change starlink RV is changing its name and there are two levels of options I'm Jason Epperson and this is RV miles SpaceX CEO Elon Musk hinted many months ago about a potential name change for starlink for rvers as it never really made sense since there's really no reason you actually need an RV to use it starlink RV is now called Rome and in addition to the newly priced 150 a month U.S price for regional service there's now a 200 a month Global plan previously the RV plan was 125 a month and was good in the US for unlimited data and you could travel into Canada or Mexico for up to two months according to the terms of service likewise for folks who bought starlink in Canada or Mexico you could travel to another North American country for up to two months but that limit was never actually enforced so Canadian snowbirds for instance had no issues heading down to the southern U.S for the winter well now that there's this 200 a month global Service you can expect that that two-month limit might be enforced both Rome Regional and Rome Global can be purchased in any country where starlink is currently available and that's not Everywhere by any means yet Regional plans are geofenced to work on land within the same continent as the registered shipping address while the global plans work on land anywhere there's active service coverage the terms of service have been updated to specifically say on land so that may mean you'll need the very expensive Maritime service if you're out at Sea that's going to be a big change again if they enforce it there's some weird anomalies in the pricing too starlink Global is available in Mexico for the equivalent of 258 US Dollars 58 more than it costs in the USA but the region Regional Rome plan is 75 half the U.S price only time will tell if starlink will be enforcing that two-month limit regardless it should be pretty simple to upgrade to the global plan if you end up needing it both starlink Rome plans still provide best effort service meaning residential customers have priority over you there can be slower speeds on occasion rarely entirely unusable but often noticeably slow in the evenings in a busy area that may get worse as more customers come on board or better as more satellites are launched only time will tell the starlink standard dish is still the primary option on both plans and it does not work in motion or at least isn't supposed to but kind of does but it's hard to mount the high performance in motion dish only works on the basic Rome plan on the regional Rome plan it does not work on the global Rome plan which is kind of weird because you think that that's what you would mount on big over Landing Vehicles meant to go from North America to South America that high performance dish is twice the size uses twice the power has twice the performance and it's about four times the cost both versions can also be pause so you only have to pay for the months you intend to use it however you do have to purchase a separate dish from your residential one if you're using starlink at home you could also just buy the RV version for home use as well but now you'd be paying more per month and it will be de-prioritized if you have starlink I'd love to know what your experience has been in the comments if you like these news updates here's a playlist to get the most recent ones that you might have missed and if you got something out of this video I'd love it if you'd hit the like button and if you want more hit the Subscribe button and ring that Bell if you want to support everything we do here at RV miles you can become a mile marker member for 4.99 a month you get access to our monthly ask us anything live streams and the private Facebook group and it's a really great way to help us keep doing what we do thanks a lot for being here in whatever capacity you can support us we appreciate it we'll see you on the next one
