2023 has easily been one of the most jam-packed years in gaming in recent memory with an incredible lineup of releases like death space remake Resident Evil 4 remake high five Rush Hogwarts Legacy Diablo 4 Legend of Zelda series 7 Kingdom in Final Fantasy 16 just to name a few yet even with such a stacked lineup of games there are two games that are robbing the rest of the spotlight Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield and there's a really good chance that you're going to have to choose between one or the other if you plan on playing any of the two biggest RPGs of the Year let's take a look at some of the key differences between the two and C based off these differences which of the two will you pick to play this year Baldur's Gate 3 has come out in full release and has garnered immense praise from critics and Gamers alike Peking at 875 343 players on Steam it's safe to say that a lot of people are loving the game Starfield on the other hand won't release until September 6 alongside the PS5 version of Balter skate though both are RPGs living within the same genre of games they couldn't be any more different father Skate 3 runs on a Dungeons and Dragons turn-based combat system this style of gameplay allows players to take on a more strategic approach not just in deciding what actions and bonus actions they want to take also using the positioning of your party to the player's Advantage when tackling the numerous and sometimes lengthy fights this game has to offer for someone who loves turn-based combat Baldur's Gate 3 has quickly become the best to do it star field on the other hand takes the typical Bethesda approach to gameplay and employs a real-time combat system and dresses it up as a shooter much like the Fallout series players will be able to choose from both first person and third person perspectives as they travel the Galaxy and explore over 1 000 planets as game has to offer this style of gameplay can create more of an adrenaline rush of an experience considering that you won't have the time to think about your course of action opting instead to just shoot your way to a resolution in my experience I find that real-time gameplay is more engaging than turn-based gameplay but turn based gameplay tends to be a lot more rewarding when things do go according to plan as far as the worlds these two games have to offer players Baldur's Gate 3 has a more streamlined sandbox setting with sizable areas to explore numerous amounts of NPCs to engage and interact with 30 hours into the game so far I have not encountered any two areas that look or feel the same visually the environmental design is top of class here and has plenty of room for exploration within a confined space when it comes to exploration and scale Starfield is on a whole other Spectrum players will have over 1 000 different planets and moons to explore some having life in them in the form of cities and outposts Etc and others having no life in the middle and being mostly explorable for the sake of resource Gathering Bethesda has stuck to its guns here and is offering its players an open world experience Rife with exploration and things to discover I anticipate that much like no man's Sky what one player finds and discovers outside of the main stories in the areas the game has can and will vastly differ from the discoveries of another player this approach creates and lends itself to a sense of bewilderment that very few games nail based on what I've seen from the Starfield direct it appears that a lot of planets and moons may have enough diversity in their design to prevent them from feeling like a copy and paste version of one another if this is the case then it would just be a matter of the amount of life and purpose each of these planets and moons have to offer knowing what we know about Bethesda games we can safely assume that there will be choices to be made in the game and historically the choices that Bethesda games present to their players primarily affect the overall story of the game and how things transpire good examples of this can be seen in just about every one of their games in Skyrim you get to side with either the Empire or the Stormcloaks in Fallout New Vegas you get to decide with one of the many different factions Fallout 3 destroying Megaton or not choices like these are front and center in any Bethesda game and the same can be said about Starfield however ever this is one of the biggest differences between Starfield and baller Skate 3 can be found the choices players can make when playing baller Skate 3 are not just limited to how the overall narrative plays out but down to how easy your difficult quests fights and even conversations can be these choices also are not always as direct as choosing a dialogue option they are oftentimes indirect things like how the player approaches a camp of goblins what entrance do you take talking your way through or fighting your way through what order do you approach the leaders in taking on an extra party member for help or not taking the party member at all Baldur's Gate 3 feels like a constant Choice every action you do or do not take has a meaningful impact on the overall experience not just a story sure Bethesda game choices can have meaningful impact on narrative in some minor aspects but overall it's very surface level decision making whereas Baldur's Gate 3 choices have impact and meaning at every turn in regards to story there's not a whole lot that can be concretely determined since Starfield is not out yet but what I can say at the moment is that both games have their unique take on a player curated Journey Baldur's Gate 3 is pled through of choices and consequences drive a uniqueness to each playthrough Starfield again also will have choices to drive the narrative in a multitude of directions but the real story will be driven by each player's unique experiences as they journey through and explore a vast host of planets and moons at the end of the day both father's Gate 3 and Starfield occupy the same genre and gaming but will offer some key differences in their approach to living up to the RPG genre faldriskate 3 offers the best turn-based combat gaming has to offer amazing writing and story delivery a beautiful world that is easy to digest and navigate Starfield will offer a more Dynamic style of gameplay with not just one but over 1 000 different worlds to explore tried and true Bethesda storytelling where not even the sky's the limit so with all these differences taken into consideration if you had to pick one or the other to play on September 6th which would it be and why let me know in the comments below and don't forget to like the video and subscribe to this channel for more
