hey howdy hey everybody just wanted to give you a quick little update before this very long overdue video starts first off i just wanted to say thank you so much for all the support you gave me on the blu-ray video i think now it is actually my uh most viewed video on the channel at least the first part is really should release it in one part but whatever videos do take time and a lot of effort on my part and i got other stuff to deal with as well but if you want to help those videos get out faster and or maybe one of the more mentally ill individuals who want to give me money for whatever god knows what reason now there's an option for you because i have just started a patreon that's right if you are dumb enough to actually give me your time and money then there are many benefits that may may come your way such as you know early access to videos exclusive updates all that good stuff and maybe even a couple more in the near future a link to that and also a link to a lot of my social medias which i use very rarely are going to be on the main channel page as well as in the description of this video whether you're generous enough to donate to the patreon or not really thank you so much for taking time out of your day to watch the video so without further ado just sit back relax and like it subscribe or else i will destroy your bloodline okay enjoy [Applause] [Music] jesus well this sucks how am i supposed to talk about something as comparatively unimportant as star wars when there's all this [ __ ] going on i mean on one hand it seems completely inappropriate to talk about a movie during these times of international turmoil but i've been putting out this video for like two years now if only there was some way to compose an overarching central theme that composes a lot of what i originally wanted to talk about but also subtly comments on the events that are going on in the world today and if only i could do this without being completely blatant and obvious hi i i like movies wanna talk about star wars my hair is a mess ah man what can i honestly say about star wars at this point that hasn't really already been said it's incredible that a franchise has been able to stay in the forefront of pop culture for almost half a century now spawning in a nearly infinite amount of merchandise theme park attractions video games shows and of course movies when disney bought lucasfilm in 2012 and announced that they would be continuing the franchise of more films there was excitement despair but most of all uncertainty as to how these films would pan out now here we are eight years later and the fabled sequel trilogy has now concluded with the rise of skywalker and as with any major pop culture franchise reactions to the film were courteous civil and most importantly constructive that is a lie after the movies came out people just started yelling at each other [ __ ] this movie and [ __ ] everyone in it is just rancid diarrhea i'm pissed off this movie straddles the line between mediocrity and total suckage i think i've done with star wars of course in typical fandom fashion self-proclaimed fans of the series were bound to have their own impassioned opinions about their favorite franchise with some taking the social media or youtube channels to express those opinions the optimist to me likes to think that the vast majority of these people were making fair and constructive content that were in a very peaceful non-toxic space but come on this is star wars you are a worthless freaking piece of plastic you're the worst thing i've ever seen in freaking star wars you're the worst character i hate your face i hate you daisy ridley you're a freaking piece of garbage i hope your career dies in 2020. you know damn well that rants were bound to appear on the internet and oh boy did they videos were posted blogs were written petitions were erected all for various reasons in response to the latest batch of star wars films many of these grievances and the way they're portrayed i think are completely fair and justified with a select few others who maybe took their anger over films just a bit too far i'll get well into that in a bit but before that i'm sure none of you are wondering what did i think of the films yeah what what what did me what did i uh a random stupid man person idiot on the internet who who's got takes about this franchise that are that are hotter than qui-gon's corpse think about the sequel trilogy of star wars movies i mean i kind of liked him what what the [ __ ] what the [ __ ] what the [ __ ] what the [ __ ] okay okay okay i don't worship them or anything but i did overall enjoy them despite them having very recognizable flaws and i'm going to explain myself in the only way i know how giving my opinions on each of them and then explaining why i think some of the responses to this film have kind of been the stupidest thing ever they they've been almost as stupid as my hair it's a mess but you know what you know what else is a mess right now the world i also put time codes in the description so if you want to jump to a specific part of the video you you can do that i'll keep this part brief just because i talked about force awakens on the channel before when i was just a wee lad in high school and my opinion on it hasn't changed too much plus in general there's really not that much to talk about to begin with it seems to be the one that gets criticized the least at least in comparison to the other two films and it's very easy to see why love it or hate it i think most people can agree that this was the safest way to bring back star wars after its nearly decade-long hiatus at the time from a plot structure standpoint the film is nearly identical to a new hope as well as phantom menace in many respects again it's like poetry so if they rhyme and that's really because it's a simple and easy structure that's been used by hollywood for years and years and years that just kind of works however this kind of story only really works if you have likable characters to back it up and thankfully this new trilogy or at least this first film does for the most part the characters here and the performances of the actors who play them are far superior than the oftentimes wooden and bland characterization of the prequel films except you of course you're my favorite mwah rey is a hero you can root for kylo is a villain you love to hate and finn poe along with a few others provide enough substance to the world in their minor side roles plus of course you have the familiar faces of han leia and chewie and while their roles are much smaller than they were in the original trilogy it's still an indescribably nostalgic feeling to see these characters again after so many years and from the technical side of things and this can really be said for all the disney star wars films so far it is a visual triumph not only are the computer-generated effects a noticeable improvement over whatever the [ __ ] this is but it also is one of the many films around this time to put a huge emphasis into practical effects in costumes it's no wonder why the industry seems to be a lot more interested in these practical options because they just breathe so much more life and realism into these fantastical worlds and then lastly on the technical side there's the music which as i'm sure you all know with john williams even being remotely attached to it is practically guaranteed to be stupendous and i gotta say rey and kylo's themes are the ones that stand out the most so overall force awakens is far from an inventive film but it does what it's set out to do be an entertaining crowd pleaser to reintroduce audiences to a galaxy far far away julian we're home and then the next one said f that noise and wanted to make people mad jesus i talked about last jedi i was just looking at my notes for what i have for last jedi you probably can't tell on a 2d plane but that's a lot all right y'all better strap yourselves in because this one's probably going to take the longest to talk about i don't think i've ever seen a response to a film quite like the last jedi i've seen it in video game form now but they're never in movie form have i seen it like this a film that many critics called a bold inventive sequel that pushed the franchise into new directions while many fans condemned it as a heretical abomination that destroys the entire saga now a big thing i see online when people talk about things they like in this movie is being accused of ignoring criticisms raised by people who don't like it so before i talk about the things that i think work i'm going to talk about the things that i don't think worked at all and there are a fair amount of things in this movie that i don't think work for starters every new character meaning every new character introduced in this film i found to be incredibly weak first there's holdo who i could just not bring myself to like i like laura dern as an actress but i just felt she was a little miscast in this role of an intimidating authority commanding admiral but the real problem with her character are the decisions that she makes they're just really hard to justify sometimes but more on that in a second i also failed to become invested in benicio del toro's character whose name i honestly cannot remember seriously i watched i watched the movie like yesterday to prep for this and i i can't i can't i can't remember his name at all it's gone in most cases this wouldn't be a big deal but you're talking to someone who might as well get a pinstripe tattoo that says [ __ ] for star wars on it i can vividly remember that the name of the guy in a new hope who gets his arm cut off by obi-wan kenobi is named panda baba but i cannot for the life of me remember the name of a major side character who is played by an academy award-winning actor that should tell you how interesting he is as a character and lastly there is probably the most reviled character of this movie rose tico who i don't think i disliked as much as the other two characters but at the same time i never really fell in love with her either i want to go as far as to say that she's the new jar jar binks but at the same time she is far from the new lando either i was never extremely annoyed by her but i was rather passionately indifferent to her honestly some of the best new characters in these movies are the characters that have barely a second of screen time rosa's sister has that badass opening sequence and when finn and poe find the actual code breaker that guy looks cool as hell he's like a star wars james bond he's played by justin thoreau who's a fantastic actor most of the time speaking of kanto bite that is one of the most reviled sequences in this whole movie and while i think it's cool conceptually it really just doesn't feel like it felt wait you know what it felt like it was very prequely it was very very prequel it gave me vietnam flashbacks to that car chase scene in attack of the clones which is which is never a good thing to happen i get that they had to find the code breaker or whatever but that could have been integrated in a much better way and yet the fact that they saved all the horse aliens and none of the enslaved children is pretty ridiculous but hey at the same time this wouldn't be the first time our heroes just abandoned an easily freeable slave what the [ __ ] is waddle gonna do just take me with you this all could have been avoided i also thought the film maybe had one too many jokes and comedic bits none of which i thought were particularly bad but there were just so many of them that it could occasionally detract from the film's generally darker tone i think the core issue of why so many people either love or hate this movie is that it is laser focused on the thematic aspects of the story this can be a great thing as now the film's themes are now front and center but they can also lead to some inconsistencies in the general plot in order to satisfy some of the thematic elements poe's arc in the film i think is a perfect example of this the setup is fine arrogant pilot clashes with strict authority but holdo not telling anyone her plan only for it to be revealed later just doesn't make any logical sense to me again the idea of respecting chain of command is a great one but at the same time how many authority figures in this franchise have betrayed their colleagues i think you would be crazy not to be a little bit skeptical of your authority figures in this universe there are a couple situations like that here and there but honestly i think they're a little bit minor in my opinion my opinion word of the day opinion people get yelling me anyway what i don't know it's gonna happen it's inevitable i am inevitable however my biggest gripes with the movie actually have to do with stuff that isn't technically in the movie i am talking about the deleted [ __ ] the deleted scenes i know i don't know aidan what are you talking about how can you criticize stuff that's not even in the movie well i'm not quite the opposite in fact i think the majority of these deleted scenes are fantastic so fantastic in fact that i cannot possibly comprehend why they are not in the movie the one people talk about the most is that phasma scene which i think gives her a lot more character development but i don't really understand why she would shoot her own troops first then try to kill finn instead of the other way around it kind of goes into my earlier problem with the movie of it focusing more on the thematic side of things and the practical side of things and i honestly get why it was cut i thought the scenes of finn being recognized by an old stormtrooper companion and rey rushing to save the islanders despite it just being a party were super funny and endearing i know i complained earlier about there being too much humor in this movie but these scenes actually feel relevant enough to the plot that i think they work but then there's this last scene which legitimately baffles me that it wasn't included literally all this scene is is a slight extension of the scene where ray tells luke what's going on including han's death and then a couple of seconds of luke just sitting there sitting shot mournful of the death of his best friend at the hands of his own son who he himself was charged to protect and train only for it to then cut to a perfect match cut of leia sitting on the ship contemplating it is a less than 30 second scene that features zero dialogue yet it manages to be the cinematic equivalent of a one word having the thematic meaning of an entire paragraph so why on god's green earth isn't it in the movie it's already the longest star wars movie and you couldn't make it 14 seconds longer look look i i'm not one of the people who complains endlessly about the green milk thing it's a wacky whatever world building scene i get it i'm cool with it but it fits between that and a wonderfully subtle moment of luke morning a loved one you broke the water that that one scene of luke that 14 second moment i don't even think it's 14 seconds i think it might be less than that that moment not being included makes me angrier than anything else in the film that is easily the thing that frustrates me about this film more than anything all right now i'll talk about the good stuff i think all the latest movies more or less nail things on a visual and technical level but i think this may be the prettiest of the bunch mainly because of some truly stunning cinematography it has its own distinct look that differentiates it from the other films which is also heightened by its unique reddish color palette the music the effects the costumes everything on the technical side i think is absolutely on point i also found myself really enjoying a lot of the general decisions that they made with a lot of the characters that we already know finn and poe are still charismatic and fun in their side roles despite the flaws in their arcs that i already mentioned but the real meat of the movie is with rey and kylo and i think ryan johnson really nailed that aspect of the story the vague relationship between them that was set up in force awakens is expanded upon marvelously here with the force dyad device being not only a unique force power that we haven't really seen much of before but provides some excellent moments of dialogue between our hero and villain not to mention they're also heightened by daisy ridley and adam driver's fantastic performances it's the moments with those two that i think really keep the movie together in those first two acts which are not you know the worst things ever but also are not fantastic oh there's some great moments in there sure but then there's also the dumb stuff that i already mentioned like holdo and canto by yeah but then we get to that bold ambitious exciting and just flat out wonderful third act of the movie which i think is honestly a serious contender for my favorite third act of any star wars movie one of the most polarizing moments in the movie is that snoke throne room scene but you know what i i love it we've never gotten a fight scene like this with this many participants nor this brutal before so it's a nice change of pace from the usual fight scenes in the series i'm also a big fan of the snoke twist i really didn't care for getting yet another sith lord we've never heard of before so i'm actually glad he's more used as a plot device to progress kylo's character instead it functions as a fantastic mirror to vader's killing of palpatine well killing is in quotation marks i guess but instead of the kill being an act of redemption it's an act of revolution instead of redeeming himself as a hero he cements himself as an even more dangerous threat which then leads us into the battle of crates which i think is tied with scarif as the coolest planet in this latest era of films it's so unique and visually distinct and is a perfect location for this movie's epic finale and i want to talk about how much i love this movie's ending but there's one more thing i gotta talk about before then look there's a lot of things in this movie where even though i may not personally agree with them i can still understand why people don't like i understand why people don't like the new characters like rose and holdo i understand why people don't like the canto bite sequins i understand why people don't like the stoke twist but there is one major widespread criticism about this movie that i see all the time that i honestly just can't wrap my head around an argument i hear time and time again and again and no matter how hard i try i just can't it it doesn't make it invalid i just don't understand it obviously i'm talking about luke skywalker more specifically the direction that johnson decided to take luke skywalker when we are finally reunited with luke in this new trilogy he like his masters before him is a broken man wallowing in exile afraid to face the danger that he feels complicit in creating this is something we've seen time and time again in these movies but for whatever reason maybe it's because it's luke skywalker our former main character but from the moment he chucks his lightsaber over his shoulder people lost their absolute minds luke throwing away the lightsaber like it's nothing what he [ __ ] throws it and just walks the [ __ ] off has no reverence for that lightsaber he just tosses it over his [ __ ] shoulder [ __ ] with that and his moment of weakness with kylo some fans just decided that this incarnation of luke skywalker was completely blasphemous to them the idea of luke skywalker ever being sad or making a mistake hell even thinking about making a mistake is unfathomable luke is supposed to be an altruistic saint who should be able to take on the first order single-handedly and defeat them like he did the empire but the thing is i don't think that's who luke skywalker ever was luke skywalker wasn't a big deal in the rebellion because he was this perfect all-powerful jedi he was a big deal because he was the only jedi that was left i guess i i guess you call him the last jedi because he's i'm sorry he could have been the shittiest jedi in the world and he still would have been used as a symbol that the jedi were still around and weren't extinct a symbol of hope that the galaxy could unite around luke skywalker not important he is not important at all but what he represents is the idea of hope is the idea that anyone who knows who luke skywalker is finds synonymous with him but now luke feels he can't be a symbol for hope in the face of a threat that he feels he created for a second he felt he could prevent an incoming threat but instead found himself expediting it and this is something that i think is absolutely in character for luke skywalker he's always been someone who evaluates the weight of his actions in the moment just look at that fight scene between luke and vader in return of the jedi he seriously considers killing vader multiple times during this fight but ultimately decides to spare him and reap the potential consequences of him living he does the exact same thing with kylo but this time shut the [ __ ] up he does that exact same thing with kylo but this time his off-the-cuff thinking has the opposite consequence destroying everything he works so hard to create while repeating the past i also think it's interesting how this characterization shows that the jedi are not perfect hell in the prequels they become literal generals in a war who are completely oblivious to a glaringly obvious genocidal coup instead of the wise keepers of the peace that they are supposed to be luke followed in their footsteps adopting the exact same teachings the exact same mindsets they had and guess what happened the exact same thing that happened before leading luke to completely lose faith in not only the jedi religion but also himself the faith he begins to regain through his lessons with rey as well as that bad ass yoda scene oh my god it was so great to see yoda again and all his frank oz voice glory yeah i know he uses the force as a ghost but as far as i can tell that only works on octo whatever yoda's speech about failure is one of the best scenes of dialogue in the whole franchise to me because that is what this movie is all about failure every single main character in this movie fails poe doesn't save all the resistance finn and rose can't shut down the first order's tracker rey isn't able to turn kylo to the light side but yoda is adamant that failure is one of the greatest teachers a teacher that can teach its students after they are long gone not so their students can be just like them but better than them when luke realizes this we finally get to that phenomenal conclusion it first starts with luke finally reuniting with leia and a wonderfully somber yet harrowingly beautiful sequence even playing luke and leia's theme from return of the jedi in the background which is one of the most underrated compositions in star wars then luke goes out to face the first order only for kylo to rain hell itself upon him only for luke to look cool as [ __ ] as it does nothing bringing us to a final lightsaber confrontation between former master and student only for us to realize that luke was using force projection to fool kylo as a distraction while the few surviving members of the resistance escape on the millennium falcon a move never before seen a move so unprecedented that it takes all of luke's remaining power to do it luke uses the last of his energy the last of his power to get up and see a sight he probably hasn't seen in decades the twin sons the very same twin sons where his journey began are now there to greet him at the end the symbol of hope that started luke on his journey have now returned as he looks longingly at them as he vanishes love it i love it i love it i love it i i don't this is gonna get people yell at me i i don't think they could have handled that character any better again i don't get how people can say that luke skywalker is this total depressed [ __ ] who hates everything about life when he literally saves everyone at the end of the movie while sacrificing himself to do it in life people are not flawless they make mistakes they get sad they're vulnerable again luke is not perfect and he never has been perfect he followed the teachings of the jedi to the letter and it had positive outcomes but devastating consequences but eventually he like the other characters in the film learned to cope and learn from those consequences once again becoming the jedi the galaxy already thought he was potentially inspiring a new generation of jedi this is a weird one for me as you can probably tell it's got so many things in it that i don't think work at all but at the same time the stuff at the end is just so good that it almost makes me forget about the other stuff but on the whole i get why people dislike this movie it's not traditional at all i might not personally understand why so many hate luke's arc but really i don't have to doesn't make that opinion any less valid just because i personally may not agree with it good god i've been talking for an hour and i haven't even talked about rise of skywalker yet and now we arrive to the epic finale of the sequel trilogy where our heroes will finally face the ultimate threat in supreme leader kylo and the now resurrected emperor palpatine whether or not you hated the films just before this it's hard to deny that there was genuine intrigue into how this trilogy was gonna end would it be a triumphant conclusion or would it be a disappointing climax i find a knuckle for every time i heard that well most people seem to think that it was kind of meh but me personally i thought it was eh why are you the way that you are well what do you want me to do why do you do you want me to tell you that i thought that a movie that most people thought was meh i actually thought was pretty yeah well no no that's it this is how i like movies damn it all right the only thing we lie about here is my sexual preference so you know what here's my gay opinion about ryza skywalker and you're gonna like it you don't have to that kind of goes against my whole ransom opinions i'll start with the negatives again and say that probably my biggest disappointment with ryza skywalker is that it is just return of the jedi again with force awakens i thought the similarities with the new hope works because it was jj abrams setting the tone for what he thought the new trilogy would be but one of the beauties of the last jedi's ending was how it put in elements of return of the jedi at the end leaving the door open to do something completely different in the next installment this doesn't do that it plays it really safe when they had the perfect opportunity to do something really bold i'm not particularly a fan of the scraps colin trevaro script i feel like it's honestly slightly worse than what we wound up getting despite a couple cool ideas but i will admit that it is a bit more original than what we got i also feel like there's a lot of missed opportunity in a lot of the side characters finn and poe are still entertaining and likeable but they feel like they're now more used for comic relief than anything else you're a spice writer you were a stormtrooper were you a spice runner were you a scavenger we could do this all night the idea of finn secret being he's force sensitive is not translated well at all in the film and poe's leadership arc doesn't really feel all that important so it's a shame that these two characters while still likable aren't as dynamic or interesting as they were before as for the new characters they actually have the opposite problem that the new characters had in last jedi whereas the new characters in last jedi were not interesting at all but had a lot of relevance to the plot the new characters here are cool on the surface level and are deeply interesting but they just don't feel important to the plot at all zory bliss looks badass but is practically pointless the group of rogue stormtroopers the gang runs into is a cool idea but isn't very developed and grand admiral piet [Music] is played wonderfully by richard e grant but it feels like he should have been introduced to the trilogy sooner the only character i really enjoyed and felt was somewhat important of the new batch of characters was honestly babufrik hey one big problem that i have with the main plot is that there are way too many fake out deaths i don't inherently have a problem with these but if chewie 3po zory babu even rey and kylo get them then there's too many there's just too many there should not been this many fake out deaths apart from that there are some things in this movie that i gotta just admit are just flat out never explained they never explain how that damn dagger was made and how it has coordinates to a destroyed death star they never explain where the final order fleet really came from or how it was made they never explained how palpatine survived return of the jedi what could you give me everything oh yeah i should probably talk about that my thoughts on palpatine are a bit mixed they really don't do a good job explaining how he returned besides a random quote from mary about cloning wait hol i forgot he was even here why is he here full of a took i'm sure there will be a tv show or a video game or something to explain how he returned but that still doesn't excuse it as an issue with the film storytelling but at the same time we didn't get too much backstory for palpatine prior to the prequels and i'm honestly all for the idea of palpatine being the main overarching villain of all nine of the skywalker saga films instead of introducing yet another secret sith lord who we've never heard of until now not to mention that ian mcdarmond clearly just has so much fun playing this character he just exudes charisma and personality every time he's on screen which is impressive considering how he's practically a corpse for most of the runtime which i guess brings me to the positive starting with again the phenomenal technical aspects the effects the cinematography the costumes the music and the sound design in particular in this one is just spectacular play that clip again what could you give me everything the other thing i think this movie actually really gets right is the relationship between ray and kylo even though i will admit that the kiss at the end kind of came out of nowhere but the relationship these two have still is just really interesting to me i like how this mutual respect between each other rhymes with the relationship between luke and vader kylo in particular and the ark he has across all three of these films i think is truly the thread that holds them all together his evolution from a darth vader fanboy to a homicidal supreme leader to a mournful son is legitimately engaging and is only enhanced by an increasingly great performance from adam driver while i do really like the other elements in the film i think he really is the guy who carries the whole trilogy on his back his character his portrayal everything about it is just stellar to me in a trilogy that i admit could have really used a much more detailed road map i like how all three of these movies are in a way an original trilogy characters sacrificing themselves to save kylo when you look at it like that force awakens is hans movie last jedi is luke's movie and rizza skywalker is leia's movie who by the way i think is incorporated into the film surprisingly well carrie fisher of course unfortunately passed away prior to filming the film so they utilized unused footage from force awakens and it's surprisingly pretty convincing and is miles better than that creepy weird uncanny valley [ __ ] they did in rogue one am i far when ready no no i don't think i will far and away my favorite scene in the whole film is when kylo has the vision of han right after leia's sacrifice it uses the exact same dialogue from their scene together in force awakens but with a fundamentally different context moments like this are what made this admittedly flawed trilogy very worth it for me there are definitely some examples of bad fan service out there but i think this movie does it well for the most part the part at the end where you hear all those jedi voices was just a wonderful fan moment for me hearing anakin qui-gon obi-wan yoda mace windu even ahsoka and kanan from the animated shows gave me goosebumps and felt quite fitting for the supposed conclusion of the skywalker storyline until the next 10 years when they make another continuation of the series it's gonna happen trust me don't worry oh yeah and this movie also brought back lando jesus christ why did it take so goddamn long to bring back lando they brought him back for battlefront 2 before they brought him back for the sequel trilogy so i i just by default have to give it points for finally bringing him back if he didn't appear in this series at all i would have it would be a 0 out of 10. just like last jedi i fully understand why people don't like it but i'm sorry i thought it was really fun i think all three of these movies are really fun and you know what i honestly feel i shouldn't this whole trilogy has so many issues and was so poorly planned that i feel like i should hate it but i just can't bring myself to do it i think it honestly might just be for one very simple reason as much as i very clearly love star wars i really don't have high standards for it lucasfilm seems to really want people to think that all nine of these movies are this full complete saga but i've just never really seen it that way to me the original trilogy of star wars movies has always been the definitive beginning middle and end of star wars everything else after that i just consider a bonus meaning that i think the prequels and sequels in general are flawed but fun prologues and epilogues they won't reach the heights of the originals and frankly i don't want them to then i feel those movies would lose their luster and iconic nature i think because of that i really just don't take anything after those original three movies all that seriously so why do so many people do i have said it numerous times in this video alone these movies are not perfect these movies are subject to criticism and i have zero issue to that whatsoever imagine how monstrously hypocritical it would be for me a guy who just talks about movies and criticizes them on the internet for me to tell people that they can't do the exact same thing that would make me uber mega [ __ ] i adamantly believe that film criticism is something that should not only be allowed but something that is actually encouraged as that is what is ultimately going to lead to better film in the future however there's criticism and then there is malicious bitter anger that is masquerading as criticism you know the kind of people i'm talking about the kind of people who go if you like slash dislike this thing that i dislike like then you are not a true star wars fan what a [ __ ] bad thing to say that's pretty much the major statement from toxic fandom that i i fundamentally cannot stand my old man brain recently discovered that reddit actually has a word for this it's called gatekeeping and it's essentially this feeling of self-entitlement that makes some people think star wars is theirs and nobody else's and they decide what opinions are true fan material i'm all for disliking movies there's a lot of movies i dislike but mentalities like this are just new levels of stupid you have people making daily videos and posting daily to their blog about how disney ruined star wars it's basically a it's like clockwork it's a daily occurrence for some people which is not an unfair opinion nor is it an unpopular one but some but again some people just take it to an astronomically stupid level i'm not even talking about legitimate criticisms that i personally may not agree with for example i don't get why so many people harp on phasma all the time i i just i i like people say that she was created just to sell toys but that's like a franchise staple at this point so i don't really i don't understand that at all she was designed to look cool and sell stuff who is this who who who is this don't try to tell me that he's your favorite character because of how deep and emotional he is you are a liar if you say that some of you may be wondering why i didn't really mention the issue of rey's lineage in any of the parts of this video and that's just because i don't really get why people are so obsessed with it i pretty much had her pegged from day one as a palpatine because that to me was the only reason it made sense for her to be as powerful as she is but again i've seen arguments for that that i think are very fair so those things i get i get those a lot yeah you know what i don't get though harassing actors on social media just because they played a character you didn't like very strange so because you didn't like ray or rose you think that it's a good idea and totally acceptable to go to daisy ridley and kelly marietran's instagrams or social medias or whatever the kids call it nowadays and drive them off of it and harass them to the point where they don't even want to be on it anymore do you see do you see is there you see a problem here i see a problem do you see a problem but then some people go oh no don't harass the actors that's tara they're just doing their job they don't they're just doing what they're told you know what you should do you should harass the director writer and producer because they're the ones to blame so they should be harassed while i do agree that they are much more appropriate outlets for criticizing a film that doesn't mean that you get to just constantly call them names on social media and tell them that they should die of cancer like you know there's a way to be critical without you know saying someone deserves to have harm like literal harm inflicted upon them just because they made something you didn't enjoy if you think someone legitimately deserves to have actual physical harm put upon them because they made something that you didn't enjoy in a franchise that you know george lucas himself even says was made for children legitimately get some psychological help because that's the craziest [ __ ] i've ever heard i wish i could say i was surprised by this abhorrent behavior but unfortunately this is nothing new for star wars the exact same thing happened when the prequels came out which by the way are now considered these underrated and misunderstood gems by members of the community who really hate these new movies when did this happen nothing's happening whoa hold on something's kind of happening well if that's the case uh shoot me again these movies went from being absolutely reviled to being praised within the span of a decade don't get me wrong i like them too partly for ironic reasons but i thought it was in the minority i can't remember a time before the new movies came out and the whole disney thing happened where people weren't crapping on the prequels it was like it was just a regular common thing and now it's completely reversed but going back to the more radical side of this fan base or not even radical just people who are more vocally against these new movies i'm sure most of them have the best of intentions are bluffing with their threats or are just looking to get attention so at most i guess they should be taken with a grain of salt however where it gets scary for me is when some members of this ilk decide to just spread objectively untrue information or heavily rumored information and try to constantly push that information in the hopes that someone who they don't like at lucasfilm will get fired rumors that are more than likely completely fabricated that they constantly push with the hopes that maybe those rumors will finally come reality if it gets enough attention one source for this type of misinformation is a lovely little site called cosmic book news as an example they posted an article titled star wars story group dismantled kathleen kennedy in sia mode a pretty pretty bold claim i think most would say and the title seems to be suggesting that this is a proven fact doesn't say rumor anywhere in there this is a fact so obviously the source they have for this must be incredibly reputable right well if you read the article you'll see that the source of this bombshell information came from a disney world forum member it's also worth mentioning that the article was posted almost a full year ago and kathleen kennedy obviously is still lucasfilm and the story group there is far from dissolved the worst part about all this misinformation is that when you look at the comment sections for where this information is coming from people just don't give a [ __ ] it just gives them another excuse to hate star wars it just they don't care if it's wrong they don't care if it came from a bad source they'll just eat it up and spread it around that's another reason why it's so hard to get rid of and why it can be so misleading and potentially just bad for the industry but aiden i hear you say this is just this is just one site on the internet it's some random site what does it matter if some random site is pushing [ __ ] what does it matter well that random site is able to consistently appear on my google news feed that i get through the official google app so it is apparently large enough and has a big enough following that google considers it a source that i would look into and trust me they are not the only site this one claims that the reason disney is killing off already established characters is because they have to pay george lucas royalties every time they mention a character that isn't originally theirs which just makes no sense on multiple levels for starters why would disney even bother bringing back any classic characters if they were worried about this how what would even be the point of buying star wars if they were so worried about paying royalties for every time he's a character but but hey let's let's just let's just say for the sake of argument that this is true and disney has to pay george lucas royalties for every time they mention or use an original star wars character you think disney really doesn't have the money for that really and the big reason why i think clearly fabricated rumors like this are dangerous is that occasionally every once in a while they garner more mainstream attention jeremy johns who has nearly 2 million subscribers and who has been on the website for god knows how long seems to think that the story i just mentioned is true even though it hasn't been confirmed by anyone now first let me say that i have nothing against jeremy johns whatsoever nor his opinions on any of these movies obviously in fact he was one of my biggest inspirations for getting into youtube and reviewing movies to begin with i don't want this to sound like a personal attack or anything on his character at all or even the content of his videos like i'm not this is not an attack on jeremy johns i'm trying to make that very clear i have nothing but respect for him and his videos and all that jazz don't think i'm trying to say jeremy john sucks he doesn't okay i got that out of the way good now with that being said he said something in a video talking about george lucas and disney that i think just kind of proves my point a little bit and they're fighting a smaller rabble of rebels or resistance because we can't call them rebels because they'll probably owe george lucas money that's also a huge thing yeah i don't think the mandalorian is actually boba fett because if the mandalorian was boba fett they there's probably something saying they owe george lucas some form of merchandise rights because he created the character of boba fett so yeah i think disney star wars will make the mandalorian his own character because they don't want to pay george lucas anything kind of compromises the whole thing about the mandalorian doesn't it [ __ ] what jeremy that's just not true i understand that this video was made before the mandalorian came out and way before all the season two news came out but even then like this clearly was not the case ever i should also probably mention that i am not suggesting that jeremy deliberately said something that was wrong information or misinformation i think he said it without even realizing that what he was reading was wrong because that is how widespread misinformation like this can become where you don't even need a good source you can just say something on the internet people will believe it and then it spreads like wildfire and people will just assume it's true even though it's never been proven you wanna know you wanna know the source of the story i'll tell you the source of the story it's from a youtuber named doomcock yes these these sites and outlets are getting their information this their exclusive bombshell information from a guy named doom [ __ ] need i say more oh and speaking of doom [ __ ] he's uh his latest rumor now is saying that all sjw employees at disney are gonna get fired uh which you know has to be true considering his you know just stellar batting average at this point in reporting just you know all this exclusive information oh [ __ ] i gotta talk about the sjw [ __ ] now this video is already too long but i keep remembering stupid [ __ ] another thing that sucks about this toxic side of the fan base is just how political it's gotten i mean if you have an overpowered character people might criticize it but make that overpowered character a woman there's the line and you just frosted it now this does not speak for everyone as i know many different people from many sides of the political landscape who hate love this movie all for reasons completely independent of politics but there is this obsessive idea that kathleen kennedy and disney hate men wanna wanna remove all men from media and just wanna replace them all with women and just i personally did not see anything in these movies that explicitly said men bad women good i just didn't see that ever rey as a character is absolutely subject to criticism for being overpowered i totally get that but i don't see what her having a vagina has to do with her being overpowered i i just don't people talk about holdo being a radical feminazi for having authority over poe and calling him a flyboy i already talked about how i didn't like holdo but she didn't call him a flyboy for being a masculine manly man and her being a strong independent woman she called him a flyboy because he was being a [ __ ] flyboy and also for getting a pretty big portion of the fleet killed the luke drama also contributed to this conspiracy level theory having the white male main character the previous films be sad which is bad i guess but also forgetting that the same white male is the one who literally saves everyone at the end there have even been people this this is real this is a real thing that actually happened for real of people saying that last jedi is vegan propaganda because there's that one joke about the porgs and how chewy didn't want to eat the porks because they look at them all sad it was a joke it was a joke it was a joke it was a joke and it's not it's not vegan propaganda because chewie didn't want to eat the pork for all we know he still ate the porridge he still probably ate the pork because he's hungry and he's a carnivore and he eats and did you forget about the scene where luke kills and eats the fish did you not see that seed in the movie he kills the fish how is it vegan propaganda if he kills a [ __ ] fish oh right yeah and there was also that one time where people were saying that force awakens was promoting white genocide for i don't even know why they just said it was white genocide maybe because finn's in it what you know on its own just doesn't really make that much sense but what it makes even less sense when you realize that people were saying this before the movie even came out this portion of the community is beyond obsessed with this political aspect and it's exhausting it makes it not even fun to have a conversation about star wars because chances are it might lead to this topic but at the same time i don't think they're the only ones to blame for this disney has some skin in the game on this too as they have done a terrible job combating and dismissing this very easily disprovable information no wonder it's still spreading around because they just don't think it's important enough to talk about it they probably just dismiss it as a couple trolls when really it's done so much damage and just created a really negative and toxic community whether they realize it or not the people who worked on these movies and maybe wanted to in the future are now so afraid of having so much negativity levied at them just because they made something they didn't like which again is nothing new for the franchise and sometimes very valid criticism is justifiably directed at disney just the other day john boyega made some comments on how disney didn't know how to write characters of a minority group and you know what seeing as how disney live action movies more particularly the live-action remakes do suffer from tokenism i don't blame them at all for believing that in fact as crappy as it is for directors writers producers to deal with just really nasty mean people all the time the people i feel bad for the most are probably the actors they have just gotten so much [ __ ] hurled at them all because they just wanted to be a part of a legendary franchise as an aspiring filmmaker myself i would love to work on a star wars movie that would be a dream come true but at the same time it would also be a nightmare realized if i had a bunch of keyboard warriors who were making daily content about me trying their damn diss to make sure i never work in hollywood again that's stuff that genuinely concerns me and you know again criticism trolls that's just the internet that's what happens but this is just next level kind of stuff like this is beyond the realms of probability and credibility when you're sending people death threats telling them they should get cancer making up stories constantly complaining about politics when there's no politics to be found i i've i've been talking for way too long at this point and i i feel i gotta wrap this up so i'll close by saying this if you really felt that your childhood was destroyed or the franchise is ruined by these new movies i just want to say to you i'm really sorry while i really don't get how you can hate these movies so much that they ruin everything before them i don't really understand that personally but at the same time i don't have to and i feel bad that the magic for this franchise has now been lost to you because of that as not perfect as every star wars movie has been post return of the jedi i think the reason why people are so hard on those movies that came after is just how legendary the originals are this awe-inspiring breathtaking universe that started way back in the 70s that has captivated so many people for so long people love this franchise and when you love something and want it to get better you criticize it but there are constructive ways to criticize and there are destructive ways to criticize if you genuinely don't like how this franchise has been treated thus far then by all means make as much content as you want discussing how you think it can get better attacking actors threatening directors and just making stories up is not going to do that it's not going to make anything better what started out as people just giving their genuine thoughts and criticisms on a film has now dissolved into this toxic smear campaign that type of behavior is just not going to change anyone's minds as much as you might want it to hell i know this video probably isn't gonna change your minds if you're watching this and you know what that's perfectly fine this is just one dude's hot take on a franchise i'm gonna get philosophical here but i honestly think we live in a world where people just can't seem to handle each other's opinions there's just so much anger and fighting going on between people over issues that either just aren't important or are easily fixable or things that aren't easily fixable or are important and it just sucks like it just sucks that people don't know how to talk to each other over things when they might disagree with each other on them people love these movies and people hate these movies and i don't think that is any reason at all to yell at or hate each other again this franchise has not been perfect for quite some time there have always been missteps but if it's one thing it's taught me it's to be hopeful for the future and honestly the future for this franchise looks pretty pretty good ea seems to have finally figured out how to make good star wars games with fallen order being super good star wars squadrons looks awesome even the battlefront 2 remake was significantly improved as time went on mandalorian season 2 comes out in like a month which by the way that show better than all these movies every it's probably better it's probably the best star wars thing that's come out since return of the jedi and there's even some great talent who are working on the next star wars movies whatever they may be hopefully they don't get fired they've done that in the past but you know what optimism no matter how i may feel about the future movies that come out or games shows whatever they can never change my opinion on the originals they will always have a special place in my heart and it's going to take a hell of a lot more than a couple mediocre movies to change that but if you truly think star wars is ruined i mean star wars has been ruined so many times at this point that i can't even count it was ruined that the christmas special specials ruined it the prequels it was ruined at shows it was ruined at the new movies it seems to get ruined all the time and i just don't get how you could say it's ruined if you think something that came after the originals ruins the originals then i think the only person that is truly destroying the franchise is you not disney not lucasfilm not the people making it you by saying that everything before it is now meaningless because there is one bad movie that came out after it now more than ever there's a pandemic there's a racial movement there's so much [ __ ] going on in the world and now more than ever i think we should just be nice to each other and you know just have civil conversations about things and just have just relax like star wars is supposed to be an escape sure you can have good themes and good messages at points but you it's not meant to be taken so seriously that it ruins your life now more than ever we should just appreciate the things we enjoy in life and what thing in life do we enjoy more than a galaxy far far away [Music] so [Music] uh
