Star Ocean The Second Story R - The BEST Start For Beginners!! Beginner Tips!!!! PURITY NOT PIETY!!!

[Music] how's it going everybody welcome back to set 6 and today we've got something a bit different today we're going to be talking about Star Ocean the Second Story R and giving you a few tips to get the best possible start that you can get in the game because this is a game that I played many many many years ago and it seems like everything still works I tested a few things out on stream last night before making this video massive thank you to Square Enix as well for providing me with a copy of the game massively appreciate it and uh yeah I started breaking it already so I think we should have a little chat about it and give you the information that you need to get the best possible start that you can don't forget drop a like on the video subscribe for future content plenty more content coming regarding Final Fantasy 7 rebirth I'm probably going to do a few more videos for AR Ocean the Second Story R over time as well I want to make sure that certain things work but as long as they do we can make videos on them so let's jump straight into it now if you're old like me and you played the original game you've probably got a rough idea of what's going on but things have changed a little bit and mainly it's the names of things a lot of things have been renamed obviously because the translation was probably not the best back then I didn't really notice it too much but now things make a little bit more sense but let's crack on with it so you've started your game you've selected your first character you've either gone with Raina or Claude now what you want to do is you want to get to the point where you can first open the menu takes a few minutes to get there which makes this process a little bit of a pain but like I say get to the point where you can open the menu for the first time then you're going to select status and then you're going to press the square button and you'll see that you've got these things called talents now the most important thing if you're going to go with this option that I've gone with at the very least and if you want to do pick pocketing in general which if you don't want to do it you might as well just turn the video off now but what you want to do is you want to make sure that your characters starts with originally it was dexterity but it's now been renamed to Nimble fingers I think a lot of these name changes happened in the PSP version so if you played that you should be good if you've only played the original things are going to get a bit weird so yeah keep restarting the game getting to that first point where you can open the character menu go to status press square if you don't see Nimble fingers highlighted so lit up in white text then you need to restart however once you've got Nimble fingers highlighted as a talent on your main character whether that's Rainer AR clad you're good to go and move on to the next step of this and the next step of this is to just play the game for a little bit you've got a little bit of story stuff that you need to get through you shouldn't be able to spend SP at the minute skill points uh I don't think you unlock it until you get to cross but just in case don't go spending any skill points you know just just going to throw that out there once you gets across and it opens up though it does seem like it works a little bit differently than it did in the original game I may be having false memories of this but I remember in the original game you had to go to specific towns and buy the box for the skills before you could learn them in this it seems that when you get to cross everything opens up and you can just learn everything but yeah just play the game use the R1 phase Cannon as often as you want because it'll break soon and you won't be able to use it for a while so you know make sure that you get your usage out of it but just play the game when you get into encounters try and bunch as many of the encounters as possible uh what you want to do is you want to get one of the enemy clouds to see you and then run towards another one of the enemy clouds and you'll know it's worked when you see a red line connecting the two enemy clouds jump into that fight you'll get a bonus fall and XP the more you can Bunch the better I had some pretty good experiences with bunching groups of five up that was pretty fun so just see what you can do only take on as much as you can handle though obviously we're not strong yet now as you continue through the game the first thing that you're going to want to do is you're going to want to head back to Sala go into the Mansion go upstairs to the left hand side speak to Allan again who's the guy that kidnapped Raina you'll get an item out of him it's a good accessory trust me worth it however continue along with the game and eventually you will reach cross you'll do some scenes you'll speak to some people you'll meet a new character who will join you Seline and you kind of get a bit of focus as far as The Story Goes The King cure etc etc etc all that sort of stuff goes on but that's not what we're here to talk about we are here to talk about getting powerful so we've recruited Seline we've got our characters we're in Cross and we should now have access to the IC specialty skills menu and this is what it's all about this is where you spend your SP and this is where you break the game a little bit if you really really want to I mean I suppose it's not really breaking the game it's in the game but you know what I mean so the first thing that you want to do is you're going to dump all of your points into determination now for those of you that have played the game back in the day this skill used to be called perseverance but now it's called determination makes sense so dump every single point that you can into determination on all three of your characters until you have reached level 10 in determination determination is a skill that reduces the SP cost of every other skill so trust me you want to spend all your points in determination first it's not so much of a problem if you've got a skill that costs one SP to level up that's fine cuz that's not going to get any lower but that's one SP that could have gone towards determination therefore leveling it up faster my recommendation go for determination hard on all three characters but then if you're anything like me you should have a few points left I had a fair few left so the first thing that you want to do with whichever character you've picked as your main character make sure it is the main character so it's either going to be Claude or Raina and you want to go for the pickpocket in skills which are courage and Poker Face level them up as high as you can without even entertaining anything else just go hard for it with the other character focus on what their talents are so for me I pick Claude as my main he has the dexterity skill which is essential for successful pit pocketing so I gave him courage and Pokerface after I'd leveled up determination now with Raina or in your case if you've gone with Raina as your main character with Claude whoever's not being used for the pit pocket in the first thing you want to do is you want to level up the P skill the p p p yeah we'll go with it but that used to be called the playfulness skill back on the original game and what this does is it just gives you money and if you can m out that skill which I was able to it'll give you about 70,000 fall which is more than enough for the next stage of this now after you've done these skills you can kind of go where you want I would recommend focusing on the skills that you've got talents for on the specific character so for my Raina she's got all of the cooking talents so it makes sense to level up her cooking skill Seline really good at crafting and my claude's going to be really good at crafting as well but he's busy at the minute learning pit pocketing skills so focus on Crafting with Seline let her make you some cool items the item creation system in this game is ludicrous and we will be doing a video about it at some point but it's just a big subject so we'll come back to this but once you've done all of this you should have all three characters with determination maxed out at 10 Claude with courage and Pokerface giving him a pit pocke in level of a minimum four I did it on stream last night at pit pocke in level four you can probably level your pit pocke in up higher and have an easier time I I just went for it and it worked so you can do it at pit pocket in level four the way it works is you'll level courage and Pokerface keep swapping between them so level courage then level poker face then level Pokerface then level courage keep doing it that way and eventually the level a creep up for you pit pocketing skill but once you've done that we need to head to a town nearby it's a town called hary I think I mentioned it earlier on in the video I can't remember you used to have to go there to buy the box for these skills cuz these skills are all just available now when you get to cross I'm pretty certain that's a difference this seems like it just gives them you all straight away so you might think oh I don't need to go to Harley then excellent you do because there's an item there called the thief's gloves I think it was previously called the Brens gloves in the original game cost about 30,000 fall but it's worth it now the journey to get to harl is a bit of a pain uh I'll kind of show it on the map you shouldn't encounter anything that will kill you uh if you do just level up a little bit but like you should be fine I was running this area at about level 12 13 I think it was last night uh I didn't die uh you go all the way to Harley you will come past another town called Mars you can skip that for now and just go straight to Harley get the thieves gloves and once you've got the thieves gloves go back to the town of Mars and one thing I will say try and avoid talking to too many people in these two towns cuz you will come to them at a later point and you might want to keep the story flow organic I know I know we're breaking the game a little bit but yeah just talk to minimal people just talk to the people that you need to so like literally inhal it go to the shopkeeper I think you do get interrupted by a fishing thing as well so keep an ey for that but yeah go to Harley get the thieves gloves leave Harley start heading back towards where you were uh there is fast travel as well so if you dip into Mars on the way to Harley you'll be able to fast travel straight back there but yeah go to Mars and this is where we break the game so you've got the pit pock in scale now the first bit of advice that I'll give you is whenever you're doing pit pocketing make sure you do a private action uh in the original game if your characters were with you when you did Pit pocke in and you failed it hindered their relationship their friendship with you so if you do a private action it sends them away I'm not 100% if that's necessary anymore but I'm doing it anyway just in case let me know in the comments test it because I'm pretty sure even if you fail while you've sent them away for a private action you now still lose relationship with them so yeah you might just be able to do this with your party with you look into it let me know but on the east side of town there is an old man and he has three items in his inventory and we don't care about any of them except for the goodie bag previously I believe it was called the treasure chest but the goodie bag now at level four pit pocke in I had a 133% chance of getting it took me a couple of save scums and I got it off him if you go higher with the pocke in you'll obviously have a much better time than I did uh you can also steal off everybody in the town if you want to but i' like I say leave the town alone for now go back to cross do things there that that would probably be my recommendation but once you've got the goodie bag run over to the save point and save immediately because this is the item and you probably won't encounter another one of these until much much later on in the game I believe there's one more that you can steal later on in the game but other than that the only way to get them is to craft them uh and it's a a very low chance to craft them and what this item does is it will give you three items randomly drawn from a list of 223 items and you might be thinking wow that sounds pretty ludicrous like 223 items how are you going to get what you want there are very few things that you want and my recommendation is that there is only one thing that you want don't worry about the second and third item being any good or not if you get lucky you get lucky well done I mean if you've got the perseverance to grind it go for it but the thing that you want is called the sword of Marvels and this weapon is the best weapon for Claude until a considerable distance into the game like you weapon that you've got now the sword that you should have at this point in the game has got 100 attack power you can pick up a flame sword from Harley or Mars that got about 200 150 attack power the sword of Marvels has 1,100 attack power it is essentially just a one shot machine at this point in the game so yeah what you do is you save at the save point you go into your items you find the goodie bag you open it if you do not see sord of Marvels you reload and you keep doing it until you get a sord of marbles there are other options of course there are definitely other options and if I remember I will try and post a link in the description that will tell you what the other alternative weapons are there are a few weapons for Claud that will pop you'll see them like you'll be able to see them as they keep dropping the sword of Marvels will not come quickly uh it took me about 20 minutes on stream last night of just saving open the box Save open the box Save open the box but it's worth it especially if you want if you're like me the type of person who likes to hurt a game and just be overpowered and stomp through it this is what you need to do so yeah that's everything that you've got there once you've done this uh you can go and do a bit of level building uh there's an area near near to cross uh which is called the lasos mountains pretty rough area to fight in it is recommended that you can do it without getting one of these weapons or without getting the sword of Marvels but I wouldn't recommend it like I was running around in that area there is so there is an encounter in the lasos mountains that you can fight which is just two or three black balloons and all they do is drain in mp that's all they do they just drain MP so they're not dangerous at all you can just absolutely slap them take the XP run away the encounter rate for that is ludicrous I ran around in the lasos mountains probably for an hour and didn't encounter any of them not a single one not even in combat with other enemies cuz they do sometimes appear in groups with other enemies and everything else there will kill you at this point unless you've got the sword of Marvels and it won't be easy but you'll be able to start picking off some of the earlier fights cuz even though you've got a very big weapon that you can kill things with you're also still very squishy with very very little HP so yeah you might be able to hit them very hard but they can also still hit you very hard so you need to build up a little bit first you'll fight one or two fights that you'll start getting through and your levels will start flying you'll quickly jump up to level 20 if you really want to in this region you can push yourself up to about level 30 but it's up to you at this stage you've already got a broken Weapon It's how strong you feel like you want to be now there are other things that you can do before continuing the story there's an item called the Mischief uh which is an accessory that while you're walking around it'll just randomly drop items some of them quite useful as well there's another one called Fortune uh which I don't think we can get until later on but that's a separate video this is just the initial how do you get yourself as strong as you can possibly be in the early stages and for me this was the way I remember doing it it kind of came back to me super quick last night I had to get a couple of little prompts cuz it's been like 20 25 well 20 something years since I last played this game but yeah if you do this you will be strong but anyway that's going to be the end of this one so there's going to be more staran stuff coming in the next few days uh my Final Fantasy 7 rebirth video where I talk about the demo gameplay is going to be coming out in the next few days I'm not going to have a massive amount to say on that one just because I'm more of a story guy than a gameplay guy but I'll I'll say what I can obviously I'll talk about my experience it was wonderful uh so yeah thank you very much Square Enix for letting me card content for that one as well uh but yeah keeping out
