[Music] foreign how's it going everybody welcome back to set to six and today I've got a little bit of a hints and tips video for octopath traveler too you know that game that's completely stolen my soul and that everybody needs to play like genuinely play octopath traveler too if you're into turn-based RPGs just play it just play it and if you are about to start Arts path traveler 2 this is probably the perfect video because I'm gonna go over a pretty simple hints and tips pretty beginner hints and tips for you so that you have the best experience when playing through what is in my opinion one of the best RPGs in the last 10 years at least it's amazing go play it don't forget drop a like on the video subscribe for future content but let's get to it so first things first the very first thing that you're gonna have to do is you're going to decide who you're starting traveler is and I'll be honest not all travelers are created equal for me on my playthrough I started off with Oswald who is the scholar he's your magic caster and he is brilliant there is also a solid argument for starting with a few of the other characters temenos had potentially be a good starting character but I think he's probably most useful as like a second character that you pick up Throne a is a very good starting character not so much because she's very good in combat I'd actually say she's probably one of the weakest in combat when you get later into the game but in the early stages she will allow you to use her path action which is steel which will come around to a little bit later but trust me it'd be advantageous to have that quite early as well for me at the start of the game I went my first three characters were Oswald then terminos then throne and then I went and got Hikari which gave me kind of you quintessential RPG lineup you can mix and match that order you can start with whoever you want but I would recommend probably going far I would say either Hikari Throne a or Oswald or maybe oh chat I can see oh chat being a pretty solid starting character as well so yeah I would say go for one of those characters now the next tip that I would give is to work out nice and quickly a way for you to figure out figure out the weaknesses that enemies have in order to break an enemy you have to exploit that weakness a certain number of times once you've exploited that weakness a certain number of times it drops their armor and they take much higher damage from any type of attack so you really want to be looking to break an enemy now one of the reasons why I would suggest starting as Oswald first from the previous point is that just passively at the start of every combat encounter he will discover one of the enemy's weaknesses that can come in very handy and it will add up over time you'll remember those weaknesses so next time you fight that same enema you'll discover another one of his weaknesses if you didn't already in the combat encounter and there's a nice easy way to kind of figure out what the weakness is going to be so the weakness boxes that you see underneath the character they will always appear in the same order it will just miss out the ones that aren't there now this order goes swords Poland arms daggers axes bows staffs fire ice lightning wind light and darkness and there will always appear in that order so say for example you've got an enemy that's weak to swords and daggers the sword and Dagger box will appear underneath the enemy it might be a question mark initially but there will be no box in between so say if you get a dagger as the second weakness on an enema you know that the one that comes before it is either polam or sword you you already know that so you know you can focus in on one of them and try and figure out which one it is and this expands outwards you know you once you've done it a bit more you'll see what I mean but just always bear in mind that there is that fixed order of weaknesses and that if you remember that order you'll be able to logic your way through certain situations and figure out what an enemy's weaknesses are all the things that can help like I say you've got Oswald and is examine ability that he kind of does at the start of combat you've got Elemental barrage which is where Oswald or any other scholar will randomly hit an enemy with an element or magic four or five times that can quickly figure out what an enemy's weaknesses are also the arms master class has got a couple of nice attacks that can figure out weaknesses and Hikari in general if you learn skills from enemies that kind of hit all Targets with one specific attack you can kind of quickly go through the options and narrow it down to the specific weaknesses with relative ease so yeah focus on what the enemy's weaknesses are and this leads into the next tip which is when to use boost you have two options with this and I think different characters it kind of leads to a different result you game boost each turn unless you've been affected by a status ailment that stops you from Gaining boost and boost will amplify the damage that your attacks do so you activate boost by pressing R1 you can activate it up to a level of four times and that will like I say magnify the damage that you've done or it will add additional attacks and this is where the question comes in for Boost do you save your Boost in order to do massive damage when the enemy is broken or do you usually boost in order to break an enemy quicker and the answer is both you kind of need to figure out when the situation demands it you you'll quickly realize that in certain situations you definitely need to use your Boost or maybe even your latent power which is another ability that a character will build up kind of like a limit break from Final Fantasy 7 sort of and some of these can also be used to help break an enemy but like I say it's it's kind of up to you to decide when to do it for example if you were to use boost on the elemental barrage skill that I mentioned in the previous tip you'll get extra hits of magic if you use boost while you're just using a normal attack you'll hit them multiple times with that weapon whereas other attacks you won't gain additional hits you'll gain damage so you kind of need to figure out hey have you got these skills that you'll be able to boost the number of attacks with and on top of that does the boss that you fight in or the enemy that you buy in warrant using it do you need to use your light and power or your Boost to break the enemy or can you hold off and then hit them hard with a massive amount of damage when they are broken that's kind of the the decision that you have to make and I have faith in you you'll figure it out but just be be mindful of it now the next tip revolves around path actions and path actions are the various abilities that your character is able to do depending on whether it's day or night they'll have one for each one for daytime one for night time and different actions kind of lead to different results but they all roughly fall into one of four categories the first category is obtain item in the daytime this is something particio can do by using his Merchant command and thrown a can do by using a steel command and in the evening it's something that agnia can do by using entreat an Oswald can do by using mock the next one is recruit Ally agneer does this in the daytime using a law and taminos does it using guide and in the evening particio can hire people and Orchard can use befriend then we have acquire access which essentially lets you get past someone who's got in a doorway or something like that in the daytime you have a car where you can challenge people now this doesn't only acquire access but it also learns abilities from the person that you challenge and this is a massive one some of the biggest hitting attacks in the game come from hikari's ability to challenge an opponent and learn an ability from them so make sure that you're keeping an eye on the ability is that characters have the other person that can do this is oh chat and a chat can do this by using the provoke command and then in the evening you've got Throne a who can Ambush someone and just kind of knock them out and then you've got Caster you just gives them some sleepy sleepy juice and they go to sleep and that's how you get past people that way but hikaris is definitely the most important one of these I would say and then the final category is a quiet information this is where you can get some kind of Vital Information from an NPC on 90 of the time it's just kind of setting the scene World building you know giving a little bit of behind the scenes on certain characters other times though you'll get vital Quest information that lets you continue on with either the main stories action that you're on or a side quest so make sure that you're keeping up with that similarly to Oswald Caster can also use the ability to inquire to gain information and this is locked behind a level so you have to be a certain level in order to get a success whereas with Oswald you just get a chance that goes up now in the evening this is done by hakarian seminos you have Hikari who can bribe people you'll give them a bit of money get information from them that way and then finally with temenos you have to coerce the person so what happens then is you enter into a combat encounter with the MPC and rather than defeat them you just have to break them so you kind of just stunning them into the point where they will then give you the information so vital that we use these path actions probably the most important ones hikari's ability to learn you know skills from NPCs the challenge function absolutely essential Throne a steal absolutely essential and then one of the information gaining ones I tended to use Oswald more than anything but any one words bribe with Hikari Works brilliant at night time because certain characters don't come out in the daytime we'll get around to that shortly but yeah there you path actions make sure that you utilizing them as much as possible now the next one seems quite obvious for an RPG game but make sure that you're exploring everywhere that you camp because the world is full of secrets there are some dungeon areas that you will not need to go to in the Stars so in order to find them you definitely have to explore some of them side quests will lead you there but there are definitely one or two where you have to stumble in there yourself on top of that you have the guild for the various jobs and in order to get additional job licenses so that you can have two jobs on a character yes two jobs on a character but you have to find the job licenses first and you only do that by finding the guild now some of them are in the center in towns in villages in certain areas they're fine authors however are kind of in transitional areas between towns so you will have to go out exploring father not only do you get the secondary jobs but you get the job shrines which is where you can learn an additional skill for your job one of the special ex skills and each job has one of these shrines where you can pick up that skill and then finally you have the advanced jobs of which there are four I won't be too spoilery right now I'm going to try and not give any spoilers in this video if I can but just know that there are four jobs out there that are not like the eight that you've already got and then yeah two of them are exceptional so I recommend keeping your eyes open for that and the only way you're going to do that is by exploring now the next tip kind of goes hand in hand with the exploration tip this is to make sure that you roll a name between day and night because in towns and Villages and cities different characters will appear in the daytime in comparison to the night time and it's the same on the world map there are certain areas where different monsters will appear you know you'll get a more aggressive monster you'll get more XP you'll get slightly harder fights Additionally you have certain characters who repair like outside in the transitional areas like there is a section of the map where there is a small black market that only appears in the evening you ain't gonna find that if you don't go around in the evening so just be aware that there are differences to what goes on in the daytime in comparison to the night time certain things that you have to do you will only be able to do at night and vice versa in the day so you might need to do a specific path action with a specific character you'll have to make sure that you you know you you're kind of switching it up between day and night in order to make sure that you're hitting all of the actions that you can do trust me another thing to watch out for while you're exploring is Kate's and octopus now these are two special enemies kind of think along the lines of magic pots from Final Fantasy VII and things like that these enemies are reasonably tough to kill because they've got very high evasion so most of your physical attacks won't land however if you do manage to bring one of them down you will gain a massive reward in XP which depending on where you are in the game can be pretty massive and when you get to the later stages of the game in the post game you kind of need to rely on especially capes for leveling up quickly there are items that you can use that Force these rare spawns to appear more often you'll get to take advantage of those later on in the game but when you do see them what you want to do is you want to hit them really hard with the strongest magic that you can hit them with or any attack that hits multiple times just so that you've got a chance to land a hit you don't tend to have much HP I don't think I've noticed one with more than 100 HP I think the smaller ones have like 10 15 HP you hit them with a good AOE magic you hit them with an item so like a a soul Stone a fire Soul Stone a nice Soul Stone make sure it's going to do a reasonable amount of damage so maybe go for a medium soil stone and you will get the kill and the rewards that you get after killing them will be very worth it make sure that you hit them with magic hit him with soul Stones take them out of the game nice and quick and get that juicy juicy XP bonus because yeah it's worth it before we get into my final beginner tip I'm going to give you one little bonus tip here just because you know calling it nine octopath Traveler two tips doesn't really sound as good as calling it a octopath traveler two tips kind of fits thematically so you know have a bonus one and the bonus one is to do with knobs you want to collect nuts you want to gather as many knots as you can now knots are essentially the stat boosting items in this game so if you play Final Fantasy 7 there you Source items your powers actually magic sauce all that sort of stuff you have a variety of different types of nuts I'm not going to go through all the names of them or each one of them correlates to a different statistic and there are different levels of not as well so you've got a normal not a medium not and a large knot and the large knot will give you quite a substantial stat increase the way that you get these nuts you can Farm them from octopus which we mentioned in the previous point but you can also pick up a pretty substantial number of them just by running around the world map and stealing off every single person like you say like genuinely just keep stealing off people and you will find that you've got a pretty substantial amount of knots in your inventory by the end of it and then what you can do is you can take your knots and you can spread those all over your party or you can take your notes and focus them all on one character it's completely up to you which way you do it but you can always Farm more later on in the game so yeah I would hold on to them for a little bit once you start hitting chapter threes and falls with characters you'll have an idea who your main pie is gonna be that's when you want to start hitting them with knots and finally the last tip that I would give for Arts path traveler is to do your chapters by level I went into this game and I kept everybody's chapters even so did everybody's chapter one first everybody's chapter two first everybody's chapter three do you know what I mean I went through it methodically like that and it kind of led to some of my characters being sh stupidly high level while other characters were still sat on level 15. and yeah it's led to a lot of me having a ground character to catch them up so that they're at the same level as the main party I believe and I've not got any solid evidence for this but I believe that if you went through the game and did the chapter by a level you would probably end up with a more balanced party towards the end of the game so rather than clearing all of the chapter ones first and then all of the chapter twos and threes and fours and fives Etc what you would do is you would do the lowest level chapter that is available to you at any one time that way you can rotate your party a little bit more as well and make sure that you keep in everybody's levels roughly the same like a difference of about 10 levels doesn't really impact you too much when you get to the mid to late game but I was having gaps of 30 40 levels in some instances because I very much fell in love with Oswald temenos and hikara and they pretty much stayed in my party completely so yeah make sure you spread in the love among your characters make sure that they all stay roughly the same level you'll have an easier time later on in the game trust me level acne or up and no you don't want to it's really easy to not level agnia up would do it same with throner those are the two characters that I found it really easy to forget about and not level up like I use them both a lot for the path actions I enjoyed their stories but combat wise not the best in my opinion if you've played the game though let me know who you know what you think do you disagree with me do you agree with me who's your strongest octopath Traveler two no not the two yeah forget that bit anyway that's going to be the end of these hints and tips if you think I've missed anything out and bear in mind this is beginner hints and tips I'm going to start doing some deeper dive videos into some other more specific subjects over the next week or so just drop them in the comments below let me know what I missed give your beginner tips to someone who's just going to play this game today also try and be chill on the spoilers you know the story is real good and I don't think it should be spoiled people I enjoyed the story so much so yeah if you are going to leave a comment don't be spoilery but like I say that's the end of this video thank you very much for watching I'll catch you on the next video don't forget to drop a like And subscribe for future content but more importantly than anything I love art to path traveler I mean have a nice day yeah have a nice day that's it yeah stinking time [Music]
