set of 30 Rock about to go to work on 30 Rock and uh they said Star Jones is on the phone and star was on the phone and she just was talking to me and giving me encouragement and she said don't try to fill my shoes because you can't do it she said she says we wear and I love that because she said we don't wear the same shoes and she said you have to go in I'm not going to tell you how everything is you got to go in with your own experience and make your own memories and she said she said don't try to be me be you and I always remember that advice from Star Jones and she has always been so supportive of me the entire time I was on The View so star thank you and I'm so glad you're here I am we are catching up with Debbie Gibson right yeah that's it yeah I mean it literally when we started this show and people were saying who do you want Debbie Gibson was high on my list favorite songs and we can we sing any because then that's my whole paycheck yeah my favorite Debbie Gibson song so I just saw her but she's so excited to be here with you Sherry because she has a new haircut I know she cut her stay viewing for the world yeah she like chopped off she's sitting on the floor like chopping her hair and she's like got hair she looks great now she's not bald headed y'all Debbie's going through some but it looks really it looks really amazing yeah I was so excited I couldn't stop hugging her when I saw her so this is gonna be fun today it is so much fun let's go I am wearing red today because it is National Wear red day yes it is national wearer day and I am also wearing my red dress pen and this is to bring awareness to the American Heart association's go red Go Red For Women movement and a lot of people don't know but heart disease is the number one cause of death scared I'm like you you fit in where this is smoking I want him to tell me I want to know who is producing this album is it Lil Kim oh my goodness the titles like I remember this is Smokey Robinson I remember Tears of a Clown remember I second that emotion or even what was the other side cruising the cruising oh he cruising all right and I know John where did he come up with I want to know your body fit in there [Applause] I see your old smokey he's still he looks good but he's still got the moves look at him go out here I'm gonna tell y'all right now Smokey when he does that move right now Smokey will fit in there that's that's the move smoking is single-handedly got these nursing homes the jumping jumping right here any of you still got your grandmamas you better hide them because Smokey on the way I want you know I want Smokey to come over here because I need to know I need to know I would really like smoking to tell us about all these these gasms that he's giving out the gases now y'all I just want y'all to know the album gazums will be released in April hold on because I think I'm having a gamble right now I guess oh my gosh we have uh I'm excited about this we have a special guest in our audience today I met this gentleman recently John you and I were at the premiere for the new Tom Hanks movie a man called Otto and he is a young actor named Justin Davis Justin hello Justin how are you I'm good I'm good I'm just saying you know that night it really meant a lot to me you know because as a young actor a lot of times you get to go to some of these outings like John was calling like you call him and there's a lot of quick conversations industry conversations but you and I were able to connect and so I went back home then that night and I told everyone you know that Sherry she's just like family you know so thank you thank you for everything you said no absolutely of course because I I when I talk to you first of all I want to say you were you were born and raised in New York you've been working as an actor since you were a child yeah yeah what was some of the stuff you've done yeah so I when I was young I got a just after college I guessed well I was on Boardwalk Empire for three seasons Michael K Williams is one for three seasons on there yeah and then was able to guest star on a bunch of shows ever since then you know grinding out and I was on The Equalizer recently and worked with Queen Latifah yeah sitting across from her I'm like oh shoot you know that's Cleo you know I grew up with you I loved you ever since uh Living Single but uh recently I got to play the young Stan Edgar and young Giancarlo Esposito on season three of the boys so just working hard you know and grateful to be doing what I do yeah and I remember too Justin because when we met the reason why we talked a lot because you were you were talking about you weren't sure if you wanted to make that leap and move to Los Angeles yeah we talked about that what did you decide well so I was really I was on the fence about it because it was something I wanted to do ever since I was a kid and back in 2020 you know everything shut down I was looking at going then but after we talked you know you kind of persuaded me you said you know you just got to be there in front of their faces you got to make the connections and after cover you know you want to make those connections with people again so I'm going to take your advice and after I finish up this project I'm working on I'm gonna head out west I'm so excited and the reason why I the reason why I wanted you to come on the show is because you know when we connected and we talked and I loved to watch people who hustle and I love watching people go for their dreams and so I gave you that advice of you know I just think I think you're gonna make it is what I think I really really believe in you that you are going to make it in LA and I just wanted you to know that sometimes you know being here is one thing but you want to be you want to be where everything is there's something about the energy of being there you're in the energy and the energy swings back around to you and so I think that you've been here so long now it's time to step out of your comfort zone and go over to L.A [Applause] I wish you all of the best and I want to say congratulations to Tamar Braxton and Jesse Wu because they've been named new host of Dish Nation uh and I love this these crazy ladies because I am stepping away from the show and I'm so glad that they understand it's so it's a lot going on here so I'm stepping away in there stepping in and I just want to shout out I was with Dish Nation for four or five seasons so I want to shout out my entire Edition Nation family including Joaquin Arlene Tia Shea renewed two more years congratulations so we got two more seasons of all these award shows and the Grammys is something I'm really really excited about not my crush everybody knows I got a crush on Trevor Noah Trevor Noah is hosting now I think this is going to be the best show in years okay Sherry this is going to be this is the Grammy comeback okay okay we've been in a pandemic for three years this night has the potential to be music's biggest night finally yeah and yes your crush Trevor is hosting I feel like he's gonna look sexy and that's oh he's almost so sick look at him okay so you know I remember this this is this matchup it's more competitive than the Super Bowl over here with the Grammys because last time remember it was Beyonce versus Adele so now what can you tell us about that okay so this is really a rematch in 2017 Beyonce and Adele went against each other in three the same three categories they are this year song of the year album of the year and record of the year right you guys Adele swept last year but this year fear not beehive it's Beyonce's year okay cause I'm telling the Beehive will not be UPS they will be so upset if she does not win because this is her wait it's her second most Grammy wins she's got 28. okay so I have some stats for you don't break this record okay she has 28 Grammy wins so she is tied with Quincy Jones Believe It or Not conductor George Schulte is number one with 31 Grammy wins oh wow but yeah yeah yeah but Beyonce is nominated from nine Grammys this year so she's bound to jump ahead and she's going to take that second spot but you know the real the real money is on Beyonce winning four Grammys this year if she wins four she will be the most decorated Grammy artist of all time okay okay she is going to win so this is this is really her year okay that I'm very excited about Beyonce now you got it's a lot of big names that are performing it's rumor swirling about who might perform can you you ever need like a notion of who might perform the rumor mill is swirling the twitters are tweeting everybody is talking you guys there are 18 performances this year and they are going to be major we don't know all of them but we do know Harry Styles is performing Harry Styles yes he is nominated for three Grammys including album of the year for Harry's house other confirmed performers are Mary J Blige [Applause] up there yeah yeah you guys know what I'm most excited for is it's the 50th anniversary of hip-hop this year it is so class love yup so Questlove is actually curating a performance and we are going to see some of our favorite hip-hop artists okay yeah we're gonna see some iconic hip hop okay but the big rumor the big rumor is that Beyonce is going to surprise us with a performance you know I feel like Beyonce has been speaking to us you know I think so she was just in Dubai she you know she just released it she's gonna be on tour I think this would start it off really well if Beyonce got up and performed I think she's gonna perform yeah yeah I think we're gonna see her do it I'm so ready to see it okay I'm ready for that now I know Diana Ross I am praying that she finally get her first Grammy win she's been out here so long never had a Grammy can you guys believe it Diana Ross does not have a Grammy listen she doesn't have one for as a solo artist or with the Supremes so this is her this is her year Sherry it's gonna happen this is her 13th nomination 13th nomination okay so we are praying praying praying that Diana Ross get this Grand me it's her time it is her time now another egot winner Viola Davis is up for a Grammy that would make her an egot winner look at her she thought Viola Davis I mean come on who more worthy of joining this Hollywood Elite egot Circle it is Viola okay so she has been campaign campaigning for this uh she actually said that it's her time she said she said it she said everyone in my category has a Grammy so it is my time she's already an Emmy Oscar and Tony winner so give it a great come on give it to her come on viola oh Emily I'm you know you just make me like you fan the Flames of excitement for me I'm gonna be watching it thank you for she knows more than a thing or two about law her Mission this month is to help women take control of their heart health please welcome Star Jones girl hey everybody [Applause] oh my gosh you know it's funny the the last time we saw each other we got back together at the view to give a tribute to Barbara Waltz Oh Sherry girl well I know she gave me great advice but what's some of the best advice she gave you um I have to tell you sitting next to her for nine years is literally the thrill of a lifetime as a journalist you know that and Barbara first said um pay attention to the answer put focusing on the question you remember that yes because we had those cards and sometimes you could get stuck on the cards but she said pay attention to the answer because it's the second question the follow-up question that's going to give you what you want that's the BW kind of stuff but then she also gave me one piece of advice that was hilarious and I told your people don't tell you well she said don't let anybody sit in your seat and replace you because they might replace you [Applause] hilarious okay but this house here you are you like look I had hey I was like well um but I just thought that was so wonderful that even at her age she was like girl you better know that this is your season if you want to be here then don't be letting folk come up in here I loved it it was such a great advice oh gosh but see that what what Barbara didn't know was can't nobody replace star not at all baby she really did Foster some great talents over the years and I have to tell you most people don't realize how much you are truly my sister we just love and support each other because since you are so talented how great is Sharon I mean you are so talented oh my gosh I love you I mean and you are so right and and one thing I love is I love the way you love and I love who loves you and you are celebrating your fifth anniversary with someone who loves you and that is Ricardo your husband [Music] [Applause] sitting right here in the audience [Applause] this is the only audience of any show that I have done that he wanted to come to he loves you girl Ricardo yes indeed he's the only thing he said he would come too oh it'll be five years in March how does that feel girl it's wonderful it honestly is wonderful I've asked God for somebody kind and and loving and who could get all of me and sometimes when I go off like this just pulled a little string down from the balloon and he does all of that in morning he brought me my Jake he's just everything he really is everything and this and people don't even understand star always has this glow she's always smiling you know that's Ricardo is somewhere near when you have the clothes and he brought me my Jake you know that and Jake you know your son he calls you no need Noni no need okay where did Noni come from well he came to me before we got married and he said I'm never going to be comfortable calling you star you're going to be my mother but I have mommy and that's his mom yes he said but I had to come up with a name and I said you can come up with whatever you want sweetheart as long as they gonna make a t-shirt they have it on it uh and as you can see Noni I was just a title just above Queen that's it I've known it he's going to college next year so we're in the middle of all of that drama but he's a brilliant student 4.0 average and a good kid his dad raised the right kid his dad and you and Mommy in there I mean you said it's so funny you said you know going through that drama no the drama is all going Divorce Court you have celebrations for you've celebrated a hundred episodes so far thank you sweetheart and she just got renewed please I'm I'll be watching you on the show star you don't play around on divorce court but it's so funny when you when you when you're listening to it are there certain red flags that come up 100 social media is the devil y'all can say but y'all want to but everybody slide into folk DMS going on over to the Facebook and talking to the people you're not supposed to talk to and slipping your top off is that what they've been doing baby that's what the couples be doing and the next thing you know the other person in the partnership is like uh-uh and I'm telling you the social media influx into people's relationships has caused more problems than anything I'd say literally 70 of the cases wow come in with some social media problems stay off that stuff when you're trying to be with somebody okay keep your stuff to yourself and don't ever bring somebody else into your house that you just met on social media okay I'm trying to give you that advice okay so we'll take it we'll take it and so I guess I better put up that that little picture I have with my top a little bit Yeah Lord have mercy so I am so glad you're here because it is this is where red day this is National Wear red day National Wear red day and we're doing it because we're bringing attention to heart health yes and can you tell us why heart health is so important well you know Sherry I'm a heart disease Survivor and I like to add thriver because a dozen years ago I had full-blown open heart surgery and interestingly enough Barbara Walters two months later had open heart surgery and so I mean we really were connected but just to think about my heart being stopped for 22 minutes it made this my mission so no one has to ask me to do it I'm National volunteer for the American Heart Association for a dozen years because it's so personal and it impacts on every single person it impacts on women in on men on young people on on all people and I should say older people since I'm in that category now and I have to tell you this year has been on a lot of people's mind because we all saw that brilliant young football player Demar Hamlin go down on the field on Monday Night Football but he got up look at God he got up because there was technology but it was also the ability to bring him back and CPR and what we've really focused on this month is hands-only CPR you can learn in three minutes and help save someone's life I want you all to try to go in go on to heart.org get the information give some money to the AHA because it could save your life and then Challenge three friends I'm challenging you and let's challenge them other hoochies over at The View [Applause] I will Challenge three friends yes you know what I did not realize star um is that African-American women are most at risk absolutely having a heart attack absolutely any uh age group so it was just like I when you went in and you were seeing the doctor did you know about any of that before you know no and Sherry I'm supposed to be the smart when you know the folk called me on the faulted asked all the questions right um I thought it was an old white guy's disease no lie because that's what you would see you would see older white men smoking cigars drinking whiskey in the steakhouse that's not it it impacts on women and young people all across the board and especially African-American women especially mothers new mothers so this is something that we need to bring attention to it's the number one killer of black women continues to be the number one killer of black women we have to put our own Health First I know we stressed but we have to put our own health first you know it's so much stress because we used to taking care of everybody and so much and and the thing about it is so many women put off going to the doctor come on girl we make feeling bad is our Norm I know and so if you were to say anything to women who don't go to the Doctor Who put their family first their friend my parents before they put themselves first what would you say to them I'm going to tell you very easily like they say on the airplane put your own oxygen mask on first okay because if mama ain't healthy ain't nobody healthy right and if they're really three things that we should be focused on okay first of all don't smoke I'm sorry do not smoke number two eat less and be healthier okay with your eating yeah and number three move more yeah okay that's what you have to do move more okay oh and I forgot know your numbers and that's uh like you need to know your good and your bad cholesterol you need to know your blood pressure your body mass index you you have to know your blood sugar all of those numbers listen you know everything else you know what's happening on the Real Housewives know your numbers okay you better check somebody [Applause] trying to save lives because we got a purpose and so many women we have children yes and who we need to be here for our kids in this Legacy if mama ain't healthy ain't nobody healthy that's right and I got you back on Jeffrey you got my back on Jake but we need you here sis so we gonna check on you all the time that's right you're gonna be my heart sister I'm gonna make sure girl you better wear that red thank 36 years came out in the cold flew in from all over the country yeah you know just like thinking about it I cannot believe that your debut album out of the blue it is celebrating its 35th Anniversary does it feel like it's been that long so it's you know it's like when you look back on your high school yearbook and you're like was that me oh that was me but the thing is like there's been so many chapters to my career that I actually can account for all 35 years so much has happened but at the same time here's the cool part like I came out with a new album last year the body remembers and I feel like I'm in a new thank you I feel like it's that chapter all over again for me like I have that same enthusiasm I'm looking forward like I was when I was 16. oh and so on and feel connected to that time now more than ever it's it's you know wow you're so such in everybody's mind because let me tell you something you hope like I got to tell you you hold the record as the youngest female to write to produce and improve and perform your number one hit one hit song Foolish the money because nobody else is taking that title are you surprised that you still hold that title I am so surprised like my ego loves it but my but my female songwriter Soul wants to give that torch to the next young girl who's gonna do that you know like because you are 14. how were you I was well I was 16 when I got signed right and I was like a techie girl so before there was Garage Band and everyone was making you know Tick Tock videos I was like slicing tape and multi-track recording in my garage and that's what got me my record deal and it was like really my vision and my mom really was so instrumental in fighting for that creative control for me you know your mama you talk about your mom being instrumental in your career I'm so sorry to hear about her passing and I know this is so hard but you credit your mom for your success yes it's been a year since I lost my mom although she has been pulling strings this year I'm very spiritual and we were always connected but the thing about my mom and I we were like twin souls we were put on this Earth with this World Vision for my music and I couldn't have done it without her I mean I wasn't going to be this teenager like traipsing around the country getting myself out there and myself heard she was crazy enough in the best possible way to take me around to the clubs and the promoters and the radio stations when you had to go Shake every program director's hand in this country and we we were in the trenches together yeah and apart from being a momager she was just a badass female record executive well she broke so much ground like people don't remember how few females were doing what she did and what I did but I couldn't have been doing what I did if she wasn't doing which Mother wasn't behind the scenes doing she quite literally threw her body in front of people who even had like a thought and because of that I don't have a metoo story which is rare for a young girl in the music business she protected you she protected me she didn't care if she was liked or not like she didn't care about her own reputation she was like my job is to be Mama Bear that's what I'm talking about this is what you know why I would love to see this on the big screen and I did hear that there's a rumor that it might be a biopic happening about your life so yes you know if an approached to do that but I keep saying like I feel the more interesting story is her story and our mother-daughter Dynamic yeah and my dream and we're we're working on it my dream is to play my mom oh so if you played your mom who who would you like who who would you think about playing you ooh you know I would love to find the uh the great unknown sitting somewhere in Middle America or in any country who's like me who's sitting there wide-eyed with those Showbiz dreams and like really kind of like break somebody new to kind of have that same Dynamic that my mom and I had I think that would be really that would be very cool very that I can't wait to see now somebody there's no unknowns that don't know you is it true that Mariah Carey slid into your dance Mariah Carey what happened like we've always supported each other and we've always like commented on posts or whatever but then like she sang me only in my dreams in a DM she she's always said to me because we we both grew up on Long Island yeah we're both young and she always cited that you know it was inspirational to her when I got my deal and she was like oh I remember when you holy in my dreams and in that great breathy yeah riffy tone yeah I mean I have the DM I've saved it 15 different ways I'm trying to figure out how to get letter like get her to let me remix it or something because like it's so good but she has she's a sweetheart she's so the real deal yeah Debbie I you know you just have not stopped working you've been so busy ever since you started what is next for you oh but yeah I mean listen I'm from New York so whenever I'm back here I'm like I've done done a ton of Broadway and all that but right now I'm into my pop moment yes so I am going to be dropping some news in a couple of weeks but I'll just say diamond Deb heads get ready to travel again um and this and like my team and I are working backwards from 2024 because that's the electric youth 35th yeah so for me that's when I'm gonna do more International stuff again and I'm working on some hey girl yeah getting that passport ready um yeah but working on some more um TV movies and dropping a new single soon I'll announce that love don't care I'm dropping Love Don't Care it's a a really fun dance Vibe you've got to hear it I can't wait I'm envisioning you like having a dance party in your dressing room before the show we will do that maybe you'll have to figure out cameo in the video okay I will girl don't don't be making promises to me girl but then I'll be there the immediate teacher and I mean it the immediate future is we're celebrating my dad's 80th birthday this weekend in Florida yeah so my sisters and I are hopping a flight and going and celebrating him and
