we're gonna have a really good time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sherry Shepherd thank you [Music] oh man oh my goodness wow oh man thank you hey family oh we really do have a great show for you today because I'm so excited the legendary Queen Latifah oh my gosh when I tell you John I have so many memories of Latifah because you know I work if you have watched my career I was uh work with her in Beauty Shop the movie beauty shop and um like Dana Owens has just taught me so much and I and and there's a a particular story that I have never told publicly and I wanted I wanted Latifah to know how she changed my life and she does that for so many people Dana Owens but there's one story uh I had a role in Everybody Loves Raymond and I play Sergeant Judy Robert Barone's partner and Everybody Loves Raymond no you know if you don't have you don't even have to clap but that road was written for Queen Latifah and so when I went on the audition you know if they write it for somebody they just in case that person is not available they audition other people so they auditioned all these actresses and I was a struggling comic I said I had just got an evicted from my apartment and I prayed to God I was like Lord I need this world so bad as as sergeant Judy and I was like and I know uh Queen Latifah they wrote it for her but could you bless her to get a movie or something like I didn't even think to say I didn't want her not to get it but I was like just bless her to book something else and do you know she booked this movie called living out loud with Danny DeVito and Holly Hunter so she was not available to do the role and I got the role of Sergeant Judy and fast four years later when we were on uh working on beauty shop Latifah says to me she said I love you uh you're playing the cop on Everybody Loves Raymond and my dumbass I was like you know they wrote that for you and Latifah said she said they did and I said yeah that was actually Your Role but you weren't available and she said oh I'm gonna have to call him and I said no no like I need I need that G but and she laughed and it was just like it's just so many memories with with uh Latifah so I am super excited that she chose to come here and tell her what she means to me oh my goodness and we got dating expert Devin Simone is also here Devin Simone this lady right here she got the dating tips for yo mama I'ma tell you and it's summer dating tips because she because it's different dating in the winter time versus the summertime because we ain't work we're not wearing no clothes in the summertime so so she Betsy she's giving us tips on that hot summer you know dating so I'm excited Devin is here good morning John good morning you know I wrote up in the elevator with Queen Latifah so I'm feeling really good and uh we always have a good time when we see each other you know I identify as a Christian and her aunt uh Angel Shepherd is who started taking me to church and that's how I turn my life over to Christ I became a born-again Christian so every time she sees me she goes oh my God it's Aunt Angel's godson so I love her for it yeah but that's oh my God that's how I got introduced to Christianity her Aunt Angel Wonderful Woman you never know about people she really was an angel oh that is that is here well y'all yesterday was a big day for me because Eva Longoria was here with the cast of her movie uh flaming flaming hot and so we had a bowl they you know producers like we're gonna put this bowl of Flamin Hot Cheetos on the table and I had never had a flaming hot Cheeto in my life I that was the very first time I tried it and so it that I put that flaming hot Cheeto in my mouth and that was so hot I cursed on national TV y'all take a look [Applause] I'm gonna oh my God this is good but yeah okay you need some water no no but I feel like the little boy your son but it's a hot good okay and literally that would because that flaming Cheeto I've never had it before it's a slow burn in your mouth and the whole time I was chewing I was like this could not be good for your insides it was so hot the message was great who uh the the man who invented it but I was like oh yeah and the whole time the whole show during the commercial breaks I kept saying a Rodney John uh my Emmy nominated makeup artist I kept saying are my teeth orange what did my tongue look like is it so I'm like no y'all just give me the they was good that's what I tried if I tried it once that was it but y'all one of my favorite songs of all time is all I need by Method Man and Mary J Blige tell you that song right there sends me when Method Man Came on the show before uh we did a video where I sang the song to him while I was doing my marriage my Mary dance and I was singing and met you know Memphis was such a good sport because that was one of my favorite songs and but I couldn't even believe this because he made a shocking Revelation when he was on The Breakfast Club Yesterday Method Man said that he initially never wanted to release the song Take a look did you know all I need was going to turn into the The Big Wedding Song it was because I didn't even put the record out wow because I knew what it would do which would be successful it's not not in that sense I just didn't want to be putting that r b light remember we had a problem with that we had a real problem with that yeah you never liked the sex symbol well that that that's something else that that that that that comes with like that's when people don't see the substance with them they only see the flesh I know he I know Method Man got substance but their flesh is so lovely to look at but this was so hard to believe I mean because this song is actually how I got to know Method Man because I wasn't you know I grew up in a religion where we wasn't like even allowed to listen to rap so I was not familiar with the Wu-Tang but when he when men rap this sensitive song like remember word life you don't need a ring to be my wife just be there for me and I'm gonna make sure we be living the effing left of luxury I mean I was like and and it that was the first time I saw rappers being romantic and I know he was like you know they didn't mix with the r b but it showed another side and the very thing that men didn't want to happen it happened because we got to see the softer side of Method Man and it really made him human and he was rugged and sexy still when he was rapping and he showed you like you still getting the Shivers aren't you like Method Man showed you that everybody needs love and I mean I can understand not wanting to do something because you didn't see your career going that way because I remember um when they asked me to do the view I've turned it down many many times because I was scared to do it and I didn't want to do it because I didn't you know I didn't know anything about politics and I said that's not what I do I'm a comic and I fought it uh Barbara Walters asked me to do it three times and three times I said no and it was really literally my best friend John Murray who said Sherry you got to do the view because this will change your life and uh he kept saying that to me and I still didn't want to do it and then the other person who told me that I needed to do was Eddie Murphy Eddie Murphy told me he said Sherry you need to do the view they need to see you there and I said I remember saying that it's not enough money and John said but she'll make that up in speaking engagements and I was so scared I said who's going to hire me to speak I don't have nothing to speak about but I I kept they they said it Eddie Murphy said again John kept saying it and so I took that job and sure enough when you do the view they like to give you so many awards they gave me The Good Mother award the single mother award the tired mother but you made it through award like the view literally changes your world because once you get on there everything just every door opens it changes everything and you were absolutely right John doing the view changed my life so meant the man I'm so glad you released this song because it changed your life but it also changed our lives you know and I the one thing I want to say is I know that Method Man is married but can we get a shot look at them arms and I'm gonna say Mercedes I'm gonna say this because uh he and his wife Tamika they tell me that they watch the show Tamika no disrespect to you but I just got to say your husband is fine is come on oh my gosh oh my gosh just amazing so I just want to say meth I'm glad you made uh I'm glad you made your song oh my gosh you know I'm gonna say I don't know let me wow I'm looking in the audience it's it's um wow it's jumped in and Shanice here because I wanted to say you never know who is going to show up in the studio audience one of my favorite shows is Married at First Sight I love Married at First Sight how people can just step out if I wasn't who I was I literally I would want to go on that show you know and I would be hoping when I walk down the island he was at least cute and you know and then I could look at them and so these two this couple right here stole my heart on one of the very first seasons of Married at First Sight it was Genty and Sean nice and Jesse and seanice they are right here in the audience they were on there they're exactly and strong names when I tell you just going through their Journey with them because Shanice it was like she she had been selling it for a year she went fast in four years so when she was she was ready for her man and then Jeffy all fine he walked down the aisle he was really shy conservative home and she was doing lap dances on him at the wedding and and then and then Jeffy go and then you know they all sent them on a vacation and Jeffy was like I don't want to make love because I want to get to know you I was like you married [Applause] and so to watch The Evolution and you can check out their their episodes on YouTube to watch the evolution of their love and their romance and like you know he came and surprised her at the roller rink with flowers and they went skating and the moment I I know I'm selling your business Jesse but the moment like he gave her some lingerie I was like it's on this day about you yeah because they hadn't done it he wanted to get to know her and she was like I don't know she cried the whole time but I tell you John he picked her up in his arms he walked in that bedroom he kicked that door shut I said they gonna be married for a while so I'm so glad y'all in the audience and the Meredith first say y'all had a baby little Laura she here is she y'all bring her oh so I get to see her in a minute but y'all watch Mary at First Sight I'm the one I need to be hosting that show cause I love it so much but Jeffy and seanice my favorite married and First Sight tumble oh my gosh I love when people drop by now y'all actress and social media personality Tabitha Brown celebrated 20 years of marriage with her husband's chance earlier this year speaking of marriage but recently on their YouTube show Tabitha and chance discussed their thoughts on their Partners having friends of the opposite sex take a look I'm in the belief of if we are friends it's we friends right like I'm inviting you into my space with my husband like we're all friends look at my husband I know that my husband's fine very easy on the eye and the women be like man I just have no disrespect and I I see the ones that are y'all nasty disrespectful to be in the DM okay but no I I ain't gonna trust no no woman around my husband uh wow we we can all be friends like he said we all friends together [Laughter] okay I'm gonna say this right here I know some people like uh uh I I don't care what the feminine is what they're saying if they come after me Tabitha I agree with you I agree with you I want y'all clap if you agree with Tabitha okay yeah because here's the thing and I remember being on The View and I got no big argument with Whoopi about this on The View because she said little man gonna cheat no matter what you do if they gonna cheat they gonna cheat and I say well don't make it easy do not make it easy because that is why you have a burglar alarm on your house because you don't want to make it easy for somebody to break in your house because what a burglar do if he he'll go to each door and if yours is open you don't have an alarm they come on in but if you got an alarm they go somewhere else so they gonna go to the house that does not have a burglar alarm and I'm not saying I'm not ladies out here ladies who watch me I'm not saying that I don't trust y'all but I don't trust y'all do no no look at this look at it look at me I didn't just told Tamika the same thing happened to say don't say uh Tamika I know a Method Man your husband no disrespect but he fine Tamika don't need to have me at her house what's wrong gonna be looking at Method Man the whole time your mother and your grandmother your aunties used to say some stuff and they were right they said they said but you won't do somebody else will they and your grandmothers would always say don't have a bunch of women around your men because they knew something that we did not know you you can't have women coming around your man wearing anything they want and then being expected man to just be looking down no and I'm gonna tell y'all young girls stop telling all your girlfriends how good your man is instead because there's a lot of women out there want your man and you'll be coming in with the diarrhea and I'm about to girl I got that glow because he broke my back no don't tell all that because you know what women want their back broken too don't don't now all you you can tell them about your man now they look at your man differently you know and that's a man he don't need no best friend I'm his best friend I'll be your best friend and so but the one thing I want to say to miss Tabitha is having to stop telling girls your man is fine because when Tabitha came on my show she kept saying ain't he fine he fine and she's and I said she said ain't he fine and what am I supposed to say Tabitha sitting over here now I know chance it's fine but I wanted Tabitha to say it first because let me tell you some tablet that's from North Carolina I don't want her putting no hex on me because you know see yeah y'all think Tabitha all targeted seasoning she's spicy all right yeah Tabitha that's Tabitha did you think she got that afro cause she like his stuff in her head it's dead it's rigging play with my man Tabitha is one of them women that got that one jar of spices to put the Hecks on you that one jar of spice all the way up at the top It Ain't Got No Label on it that's that thing she go don't touch it don't and she pull that thing on but Imma say this I do agree with Tabitha and while there is no stopping a man from cheating there are some protective measures that you can put into place y'all don't go anywhere because up next the legendaries [Applause] our first gift is one of those people who is great at everything she does she's a grammy-winning hip-hop artist she's an oscar-nominated actress and I love her in The Equalizer when I say put your hands together for the one the only Queen Latifah [Applause] yay salute salute oh my God everybody is is the energy we have been waiting for you to come down uh do what what do we call you Queen Latifah Dana La what don't call me Danny you'll know me like that [Music] um hey with somebody that don't know me calls me that I'm like [Applause] it's just one thing you can't call me what can we call you y'all know I'm just kidding even the homies get to call me that I heard you're here because I remember you had your talk show and I learned so much from it and I was a guest I came in a on a guest on The Queen Latifah show thank you for doing that no I thank you for having me but do you have any like do you remember that that time that you had your talk show fondly or was it just like passing no it was a good time you as you know first of all congratulations on this this is fantastic I'm so glad that you are on TV because you bring light to daytime television thank you and to me the world needs so much light that was my intention with my show and I'm so glad that there's someone here to bring energy and joy and light and fun we need this and so that was what I remember I remember spending somebody else's money to make a lot of people happy yeah we give it away what we're giving it to who perfect I'm gonna blow all your dough and we're going to um you know have a lot of fun and we brought a lot of great guests on we had some music on and you know see that a lot of things that that people weren't sure would work back then are working now so I mean it was it was a great experience a lot of hard work but it was a lot of fun it was really fun I literally remember when you had your test show I could tell when you were so excited when somebody was coming because they'd be like and he didn't come here they come a little hip-hop came out it was you know the funny thing is the problem with my show is that I knew everybody yeah I knew so many people and I knew him so well that we couldn't talk about half the things that we knew I was like God I gotta ask you some other questions because I the show we really would have you know we can't even talk about that stuff so the whole show was between segments it was like a lot of fun but um you know it was it was wonderful to be able to help people promote things and support us and bring you on TV and you know bring people of color on the show and have us represented yes you know every day and you're still doing all of that and I'll tell you everybody people are obsessed with you but I know one thing that they're obsessed with as I am your hair your beauty but that hair you got somebody literally that's still pressed always it's like I have never seen you your silk press is Bar None one of the best and so much it's even like commentary on all social media it's so funny watching this what they put out there be cracking me up I mean one one person wrote they said what kind of sorcery are you performing on that skill press the 2023 Grammys ate that high bun right up the end [Applause] we've never seen a sleeker ponytail what spells are you casting in your Glam sessions what are you what's going on with you because it's amazing your hair the color everything I thought we made it clear that we was Christians around here I ain't casting nothing and if anything I pray to God that it all comes out well nothing to nobody for nothing oh my god well you know we pull her straight we get that perm out we get that natural hair we just so over and you got your baby hair and everything man you can't made a decision or when we back and Living Single days when I was in our head records out at the same time I was like wait a minute just all of this pressing is just straightening is breaking my hair I don't listen I'm I'm like this is how hip-hop I was I was Queen Latifah the rapper I'm like I'm not about to lose my edges over no TV show so let's get we got to do something about this so I grew my perm out that I had and I my natural hair was able to take a little more punishment than you know my my permed hair because I was like uh-uh we ain't doing that we're not doing that and you have done a great job trying to protect it through the years it's hard to be dodging sometimes we got to lay it down you know that's how we go you do lay it down another way I want to congratulate you because you made history as the first female rapper who was inducted into the Library of Congress with your album all hail the queen y'all remember all hail the Queens you know that is it and I mean to be inducted into all hail the queen like Memories but I think she was this is she thinks she was a confident sister who is the queen who was inspiring other women to look up and and love who they are and were why is it so impactful to you that that that happened if you abducted the first thing that's crazy wow uh thanks mom um first of all I wish I wasn't the first because hip-hop is so important there were so many people who inspired me yeah um before this album came out and so many forms of music that I was inspired by and uh you know for anybody from Salt and Pepper to Boogie Down Productions to MC light you know there's there's a whole bunch of rappers who who even Slick Rick Dougie fresh they just they gave you like so much flavor that it gave me you know in a way the bravado to take the chance to talk about different things and Infuse you know singing into my raps instead of just beats and Rhymes you know so I mean you know and fortunately I'm part of the Flavor Unit and a native tongue crew so we try all different kinds of things and and I feel honored because it you know hip-hop is a form of music that we created um not unlike Jazz not unlike rock and roll not unlike the blues and so it's important that we're recording in history I'm challenges [Applause] oh ladies first ladies [Applause] now see she's talking about me yes you cutting up that's okay we got a throwing pillow you taking it out I can't even repeat the lyrics I oh my gosh you know I I just wanted to give you uh your flowers for a minute because I work with you on beauty shop and that was one of that was that was only the second movie that I had ever done and I have to tell you how you changed my life because there was a scene that I had done with you and Alfre Woodard when she was reciting the Maya Angelou poem and I was being silly and they were going to take that scene out the movie and I was sitting in my trailer and I was crying because I said I'm the silly one in the movie and I remember I remember saying God I just I've never done this before so you got to help me and there was a knock on my door and it was you and you said can I come in and you said I'm fighting for that scene to stay in and you and I said but they said I'm too silly and you said do what you do because that's what you do and you said I can't do what you do Sherry and I said well Dana I'm not trying to overshadow you and you said you will never overshadow me because I'm Queen Latifah is on the movie yeah but I took that it wasn't like that I produced it I mean every but it was just a simple fact of you were not insecure right and you said I need you to do what you do yes you got the good and you fought for me and they kept my scene in the movie but it changed my life it made me not insecure with other women who come because I'm like if I'm headlining at a club I'm Sherry so they're coming to see me and I thank you for changing my whole perspective on being gracious and allowing others to enter into your space that's what you did for me thank you I didn't know that and I'm glad to hear that I'm so glad and so I did that's what you did could I be on Excalibur with you like yeah as soon as we do Excalibur I mean no no no no no no nervous no we're gonna do it The Equalizer yeah ladies first McQueen Latifah when we come back foreign [Applause] this is the 50th anniversary of hip-hop we have been celebrating it you performed at the Grammys and you oh my gosh and now oh look at you look oh my God who are you you were touring this summer how does it feel to be back on the stage oh it's going to be a blast I cannot wait we bout to rock the Bells uh it was it was um interesting I had a chance to uh jump up on daylight set um you know celebrating day lives music coming back out and Dave and and I just went to just go hang out and next thing I know I'm doing this ladies first with money and we just up there doing it we will not see why I just felt like love family the audience is in the zone so I'm excited to come out there and and body that joint like you know that's sweet sorry that's the rapper in me you know and then I'll I'll pull it together for other things but on the stage we trying to kill it you do you kill it when you're on stage trying to bring it that's right and have some fun and let the audience have fun and I grew up with a lot of y'all I know you know um and so or we all grew up together in some way shape or form or Somebody's Mother played somebody's music so I think it's a chance for for younger audiences who love 90s hip-hop 80s hip-hop to to really see their their Heroes live and also for us you know who who grew up creating this music you know to um you know to to get out and enjoy it and so and those who came before me because there's gonna be a lot of people on that stage who who ripped it with like shy Rock I mean it's gonna be so crazy Shantae everybody you know will be out there killing it that is going to be so much fun for you when you get out there yeah and LL Cool J yeah now we got that side of you he's hard as hell he'll battle anybody I don't care who you tell LL [Laughter] we got it we got it you know you you got that side of you Latifah and you got the iconic actress side like you have shown everybody the depth of you as an actress and you know one of one of the ones that's just my favorite is Set It Off Cleo and so everybody knows here on the set I'm always like still bite that look it's literally like you everybody can recite your lines to the T from you know and and I everybody here knows I love to like reenact the scene and so I actually I did it with Vivica Fox I want to show you yeah we did his name we did a scene from set it off and I play Cleo I want you to look at the camera okay take a look so I told him if we didn't set it off we'd be casing the banks for months what's the procedure what's the procedure you know what when I be paging you you better be calling me back I'd have told you I'm strictly dickly oh yeah but what about this I'm driving my car oh what is she so extra this early in the morning y'all [Applause] I didn't even have my wig on it was fresh braids right there you not be trying to do my luck yeah crazy I love these biblical I love you Vivica Fox you are I mean that is hilarious okay [Laughter] and that's that's good enough for me how to turn the drama into a comedy I'm like let it be let it be let it be Sherry love team but you are a mentor to so many I mean you know sometimes you don't even know like me a mentor and intentionally you are a mentor and I love what you're doing with the queen Collective can you tell us about that so the queen Collective uh came about because I was at a conference with um several people on this huge stage huge Women's Conference and uh a friend Mark Pritchard who runs Procter Gamble all the hugest marketing and advertising in the world yeah um we were we heard the numbers and it was like less than 10 percent of the commercials were directed by women and the numbers of women of color was abhorrent less than probably two percent one percent oh wow and um and and we're 50 or more of the buying power in our households so it's like if we're not directing these commercials and creating these things who's telling our story who's coming up with this um and and it's similar in the film World less than 10 percent of directors uh women um of color I mean really small numbers and so you know it's always been my intention my whole career from beauty shop on because that was one of the first movies I did post being nominated for an Oscar which gives you a huge amount of power to make things happen so for me I didn't want to just make a bunch of money and do the serious movies I wanted to produce and beauty shop was one of the first opportunities so what do I get to do I get to uh hire the director Billy Woodruff yes I get to um hire crew I get to hire cast and I get to make sure that we are employed and not specifically and I want the best and also get to bring people up who need to be mentored and taught and just get a shot because I got a shot from people who were who took a chance on me and a lot of people who worked in my company Flav unit they wouldn't get hired probably from anyone else but I see something in them my partnership I see something we see the talent that they have and they just need an opportunity so this is what queen Collective is about is giving a female black female directors and non-binary directors of color an opportunity to direct their films we have six films this year that are airing on BET and bet her they've already aired five of them uh Founders girls is airing on the 17th we partnered with Tribeca we partnered with PNG and we make sure that they have the money to produce it to shoot their films they have the mentorship that they need from Tribeca and others to help them know how to go along the process and the distribution so they are straight from the Beat from concept to completion and to distribution to you to the audience and and we found that by doing that thank you thank you yes to be celebrated so we're now in our fourth uh class of this and hundreds of people have come from through this program and we found that um when we hire these directors they are likely to hire at least 50 percent of a diverse crew so we get experience you get that experience you know that we need to work and do our thing you have always done this for other people it's never been about you you've always been trying to help people up and I've been one of those people that you mentored and look where I am now thank you Queen I thank you so much for saying yes I've been waiting for you for a long time and I'm so glad you were here I love you thank you on all the amazing work Queen Latifah is doing with the queen Collective go to sherryshowtv.com up next dating expert Devin Simone is going to give us tips on how to have a hot girl summer keep it here [Applause] summer is here and so many of us want to find that special someone and my next guest knows just what to do she's got a new dating show called match me in Miami please welcome Devin Simone okay girl let me tell you something it's summertime is this a good time to find me anytime is a good time to find your man or woman now studies do show us that oftentimes people have given the choice prefer to be single in the summer than in the winter time but you can find love at any point so don't give up okay so what are your what are your top tips to find love in the summer Devin my top tips three things okay we're gonna keep it simple one be cute you never know when you're gonna meet someone and where so you need to always be cute just be cute also when you feel good you look good you look good you feel good so you're putting out a positive inner okay the second one be bold if you see someone cute on social media and they appear single send them a DM comment on that photo you never know you wouldn't believe how many celebrity marriages have been occurring where one of the people started in Instagram in the DMS I sent you eight eight days okay and then the last one though is be clear because if you're just going for the shiny like the fact that they're a celebrity or Q or whatever else then you're missing the quality of the person and that's what matters most so be clear about your top three must-haves your top three deal breakers think about you what you want in a person in a friendship in a partner and then use that as you're assessing whether or not you want to really pursue someone or not okay all right so what if it's like what if you just want to have a hot girl summer you don't want strings attached you just want to have a good time are you trying to tell us something Sherry yeah know the summertime is when I'm trying to just like be booed up and that's fair look if you need your space you need your air you want to have a hot girl summer you can do that just make sure you're communicating it clearly you don't want to have everybody falling in love with you and you know good well you are not here for a long time just a fun time yeah so be respectful and communicate that but you get to write your own story no one gets to write it for you so if you want to find love this summer you can do it and if you want to have fun this summer you can do it too okay all right so I'm liking this I you got to tell us about your show tell us about that so we started a matchmaking agency in Miami we hired a diverse group of young women who are amazing we had some some success stories we work with everyone lgbtq plus I mean but there's also a lot of drama one of my colleagues says it's meant to be a matchmaking agency not the WWE it is true there you know there's big personalities a lot going on Match me in mind match me in Miami oh my gosh girl I can't wait I want to see the whole first season is out now on
