hey it's Phoebe and today I'm in Copenhagen the cultural economic and governmental Center of Denmark Copenhagen is famous for delicious food gorgeous canals and effortlessly cool fashion and design in this episode I am exploring this incredible City for the very first time it is also my first time in Denmark so I have no idea what to expect but I'm going to be seeking out must do experiences and sharing my thoughts on a destination that is renowned for being expensive to visit embarrassing don't tell anybody and what I'm about to say next is going to shock you my friends but first to get here I caught the train from Hamburg using my urail pass which I booked through clue and I'll have that linked below for you a seat reservation was essential for this one and the journey took around five hours or so to get here so make sure you've got a book a podcast and some snacks on Deck my hostel is located a very short walk from the Central Station in Copenhagen which is perfect for me so I simply wandered over and checked in my first impression of the four bed dorm is that it's compact but it's got everything you need and it's super cozy the beds look great they look really comfortable you've got USB charging places to put all of your stuff and importantly an ensuite now not just that but they have two really big Windows here that are letting in a lot of natural light and you get a really good view there's just one big problem I have this entire four-bed Dom to myself and I do not know which bed to pick it's a little kid in my heart says dibs on the top bunk but the Practical side of me knows it's much easier to roll in and out of that bottom bunk ah all right this is a little embarrassing but porridge is my favorite breakfast and apparently it's quite the thing here in Copenhagen Denmark and that makes me personally very happy apparently good I don't know if I'm saying that right another one is the place to go um looking at their menu they had so many options everything was good I was very tempted by the like build your own make your own um you choose all of your toppings from the menu but they had one that was called the all in and it's just got everything and I was like that's me because side so I've got the all in I've also got an oat milk flat white which is really delicious it's really really lovely in here and I'm so excited I just love porridge oh my God it's got peanut butter and strawberries and banana some kind of a compote it's chocolate chips the chocolate's all melted it's about to make me really happy that's really good you're the only one for me [Music] it is a beautiful day in Copenhagen today the sun is shining the sky is blue everybody's out and about and the weather is perfect it is the ideal temperature and just when I thought it couldn't get any better porridge great weather loving life in Copenhagen I came across a supermarket like do a supermarket Snoop and see everything that they had it was so good just a great start to my day now my first impression of Copenhagen is that this place is dangerous I'm scared I'm really scared and the reason why is that it is not very often that I go somewhere and really fall for a place and see myself living there and yet it's only been a couple of hours and I'm already loving it it's so beautiful there's such a Vibe I feel so at peace here I feel so calm I love the way everything looks I love the way everything's set up it's just it's a real dream boat now I'm in a neighborhood called vestibro I'm sorry I'm gonna say the name's wrong I'll put them on the screen so that you can find them too but everything I read about Copenhagen is that the neighborhoods are really cool and I love to get into a neighborhood and explore I just think it's the best way to really connect with a place so we're going to do now is walk around on foot explore the neighborhoods a little bit hopefully find somewhere great to grab some coffee and just see what we see let's go I've wandered down to the meat packing district and they're a little really cool bars restaurants and cafes set up down here it's about 11 and everything mostly is still closed where they get the feeling if you came down here of an evening it would be absolutely going off like a great place to come for drinks and something to eat it's 11. I need more coffee so I've come to a place called prologue I'd actually walked past it and then I saw it on Google Maps and I was like I'm gonna double back and go back it looks really really cool so you can sit out here in the warm sunshine the cafe is really popular there was a bit of a cue that's a good sign um The Coffee menu is short and sweet and it's just a really lovely place to sit and enjoy and the coffee is fantastic it's really good okay stop trying to change [Music] um when I was looking up the best things to do in Copenhagen Tivoli Gardens kept coming up and I was skeptical I was like I don't know if that's for me I think it's gonna be like a like a crusty run down beat up old theme park in the middle of a major city how good can it be um and I I wasn't going to come here but I purchased the Copenhagen Discover card it's like a city explore card it includes access to over 80 attractions including like Canal rides my beloved Hop On Hop off bus and public transport so I figured it would save me money right anyway access to Tivoli Gardens is included on the card so I was walking past was like I'll duck in have a quick look and I'll tell you guys whether or not it's worth it babe it's worth it it's absolutely worth it it's so nice in here the gardens are beautiful flowers are blooming there's restaurants bars cafes there's rides it has a carnival atmosphere but the whole place is so nice I absolutely love it and I have to tell you I think not coming here would have been a mistake I have got a real problem on my hands a real problem copenhagen's amazing oh it's oh it's so nice in here I was gonna get something to eat but I'm not super hungry and then I saw the Ben and Jerry shop we have a dairy free option it was like that's me when they have these beautiful little bean bags set up under these trees you don't have to buy anything from a particular store you can just pull up just sit here and relax I I am really falling because Megan I think out of everywhere I've been so far this is my favorite I think Copenhagen is about to be one of my favorite places I've ever been to I'm I'm obsessed with it there are no weak points so far it's just tens across the board um let's try this it's a cookie dough oh my God oh Copenhagen just keeps getting it right we just get it right oh my god this is my first time walking along the canals and seeing them all and I'm having this really big problem because I have to keep stopping and filming like every two seconds I'm not making any round I have to keep stopping because everything is so beautiful I'm just I'm Blown Away by it it's one of the prettiest most beautiful cities I have ever visited in my entire life I just it's shot just right up the scale of old-time favorite cities I'm so obsessed with it now in my mind this is so this is so embarrassing don't tell anybody in my mind in my deepest fantasies I have this idea that I'm gonna meet the love of my life in like a bookstore in Edinburgh or a library in copenhagen's library or bookstore in general so to give that fantasy as much possibility to happen as as humanly possible I'm going to the library it looks amazing I'm just gonna walk around and like look confused and flip through some books and just see what happens to me wish me luck [Music] me [Music] whenever I'm with you [Music] than me [Music] [Applause] [Music] the night Haven has got to be the most recognizable part of Copenhagen if you've ever seen a photo of Copenhagen if you've ever Googled it you will see these very colorful flat houses or buildings or shoprons lining either side of the canal now I was a little unsure what it was going to be like when I got here I thought oh maybe it's just super touristy and overrated and I'm gonna be a little disappointed no it's really good it's absolutely beautiful the shop fronts or the building fronts are gorgeous yes there are a lot of tourists here but it's worth coming I mean it's not unbearable and the canal is lovely with all those boats in it now there are restaurant Spas cafes lining either side I imagine giving this as a super touristy area that everything is really really expensive here but it's still worth visiting and maybe if you are on a budget just grab something to go or bring something with you and then sit along the wooden beams on the side of the canal and just soak it all in there it is time for lunch now I was on my way to the supermarket I thought I'd get something to go and then come back here and sit along the Waterfront just like I advised you to but I stumbled across this really cute little sandwich shop and the lady that ran it was so nice so we got the sandwich to go and what I'm about to say next is going to shock you my friends this is an 18 Australian dollar sandwich no I know Copenhagen is known for being expensive but 18 for a sandwich that's a lot but not in comparison to avocado on toast which was 40 dollars at one of these shops along the Waterfront here in New Haven what the heck so I think look I'll say this there's no way I can justify spending 18 in a sandwich unless it's granting three magic wishes but if it tastes good enough I can make my peace with it so let's find out if it tastes good enough I don't know how I'm going to do this there's also a lot of people staring at me which is intimidating I can make my pizza with it especially because I get to sit here [Music] [Applause] [Music] copenhagen's Rich history unfolds as a captivating tale of a humble fishing Village that transformed into a flourishing medieval trading Hub by the 12th century emerging as the capital of Denmark it ball witness to Royal dynasties architectural marbles like the iconic round Tower and Rosenberg castle and the establishment of the University of Copenhagen in 1479. the city endured periods of conflict including the devastating 17th century battles yet managed to evolve into a global Maritime power its significance only grew with the reign of King Christian IV who left a lasting imprint with his ambitious Urban projects the 19th century broad industrialization and Urban Development culminating in the iconic Tivoli Gardens Creation in 1843 weathering challenges of war and occupation in the 20th century Copenhagen emerged as a modern Innovative and sustainable Metropolis renowned for its quality of life cultural dynamism and design excellence and to me it's the ease of the city that captures me the most I mean not only is it beautiful to look at it is so easy to enjoy as I am walking around I just can't seem to make it very far I keep wanting to stop there's always something more I want to see do eat experience explore and it is so easy and abundant I feel like I don't have enough time here I just feel like I need a lifetime here I love it that much there is a lot to like about the canal boat tour I mean first of all it's included on the Copenhagen Discover card so I didn't have to pay extra for it you get to see a lot of things really easily the guide is great she was pointing out all the major sites I felt like I learned a lot and saw everything major without any kind of effort and it's also really nice to see it from a different perspective to be on the water and see all the boats and it's just it's so beautiful I especially love seeing all the locals enjoying the water and going for a swim that was really nice now one really good thing is that you get to see the Little Mermaid statue which is really famous but by all accounts including from my good friends Katie and Steve it's not really worth making the effort to just go and see that so getting to see it from the boat tour was kind of Ideal I feel like I've ticked it off the bucket list but I didn't make the effort to really go and see it yeah now one thing to keep in mind if you want to do the boat tour that's included on the Copenhagen Discover card that one does not leave from night Haven they have two departure points the one from night Haven you will have to pay to do so just make sure if you're doing the one that's included on the card you use their app to find out where you need to go and you depart from there otherwise you'll be very disappointed now it is time for dinner and there is one place I have really wanted to go to eat it kept popping up on all the guides it was highly recommended so we're going to catch public transport and make our way there let's go refin is a street food market set up along the water and I gotta tell you this place is an absolute muster it is a mustard I had to catch the bus to get here and part of me was like that's a bit of an effort maybe I should just grab something easier that would have been a big mistake if you only do one thing that you saw in this video make it eating your dinner here and make sure you come for dinner so it is 7 20 p.m right now and it's perfect the sun is all golden everybody's sat out enjoying a drink sharing food talking it's got such a Vibe and all the street food vendors are so nice they're around 33 different stalls and it was so hard to choose there's every type of cuisine in the end I win the Mexican got some tacos you know how much I love tacos and the guys that work there are so so nice I'll have them linked below for you they were just so lovely to me so if you see this thank you you were amazing so I've got three of their vegetarian Tacos on a corn to Tilla base so it's going to be vegan and gluten-free if that's your Vibe if you're hard out into the meat I support you and there are plenty of meat options but for me this looks like heaven so I've got a side of guac to go on there some fresh lime on top these are mushroom and they look so so good let's all gone in yeah let's go I'm about to be covered in taco sauce absolutely worth it I've got a real sweet tooth today so we're also having dessert I went to White Rabbit because I really felt like something like ice cream or like a donut or a cookie or something like that I might had all three of those things as much as I wanted all three I only got two um and I'm glad because the scoop of ice cream is teeny tiny let's talk about it Denmark what's going on um this is like a peanut butter chocolate chip oh that may be the world's smallest scoop of ice cream but it's very tasty m I wasn't going to get a cookie but they're homemade chocolate chip cookies and they look so good oh that looks really really good oh my gosh yes yes that's gonna be so good that's really good I will say this as much as things in Copenhagen are very expensive like all the food today has been really expensive it's all being really really good you know it's not like you're paying a lot and the quality is terrible you feel ripped off I mean yes you know the sandwich probably the best sandwich I've ever had in my life though so yeah it's expensive but good quality I am starting to feel such a change in myself I don't know what this is but I went to the train station in Hamburg to come here and I had no fear you know that really intense fear that gripped me that day catching the train from London to Paris it's not there anymore I feel so confident and comfortable in learning so much about myself and my travel style you know the days that I get wrong the things that I don't enjoy they're not bad they're helping me learn I feel like every day I'm traveling I'm just getting more in touch with myself and stronger and I'm learning so much about myself and it's just been so amazing and I think coming to Copenhagen it feels like such a somebody used this word in the comments the other day they said it's a soul City or Paris is their soul City and I feel like Copenhagen is a soul City for me you know I'm my Heritage part of it is Norwegian and when I come to these Scandinavian countries I just feel like I fit and I know this is a little bit of a strange thing to say but in Australia I feel really big like physically and when you're taller than a lot of the other girls somehow over time taller becomes bigger and I feel big and that does something to your mental health and the way you look at your body and the way you feel about your body but when I come here I feel like I fit in I feel like everybody looks like me everyone's my height I just feel like I'm home and more than that I feel connected to it on a soul level spiritual level I feel like these Scandinavian countries just get me somehow I would genuinely love to live here my mom has this theory that I'm gonna go to Norway and meet the love of my life and never come home so maybe she's right maybe we'll meet in the Norwegian Library literally my dream but um I am not going to Norway on this trip just yet I will get there but that to me is a very very special trip and I want to take my time planning it and get it just right so I will get there right now I really want to show you where I'm staying because I am staying at the coolest accommodation it's this luxury hostel it is in the best location and it's just the coolest place so I'm gonna catch the bus I'm going to show you around for accommodation I'm staying at next house Copenhagen and I am not exaggerating when I say it is one of my all-time favorite hostels days seriously this place has the most incredible sense of community it is perfect for solo Travelers first off it's huge with a wide array of places to hang out and things to do like the rooftop garden and multiple Lounge areas the arena gym Game Room Bar yoga room Cinema restaurant and more plus they have the very best social events honestly it is the friendliest most welcome and immersive hostel I have ever experienced that there are single and double rooms available but I managed to get a four-bit normal to myself and I loved how cozy the beds were honestly it's kind of like space camp I don't know the dorms are Compact and extremely modern with lockers and ensuite big windows and each monk has a USB outlet which is great I love the atmosphere and location of the hostel in fact I just love everything about it this is without question the place to stay in Copenhagen if you are a Solo Traveler in fact it's the place to stay regardless you're pretty much guaranteed to make new friends and have an amazing time two of my friends favorite things about this hostel are the incredible Rooftop Bar it is such a mood up here and how easy it is to make friends speaking of which I made a friend oh we're both Australian what are the chances honestly we'll find each other anywhere and when we do when you hear the accent you're immediately best friends yeah yeah and then we high-five to be best friends ever since so Shania and I met at like the Hostile family dinner they do this family dinner every night yeah it was like 7 p.m and it's like 69 Cronus yeah it's like 14 Australian dollars for dinner bargain after today's 18 sandwich told her about it okay so I like we became friends on Instagram and then I like damn my girl and I was like I'm on the way back let's hang on the rooftop yeah just one great reason to stay here you'll just meet people so easily and you can come up here and hang out after a day in debrief yeah um I'm gonna record my sign off now is that okay with you so much it's where I beg people to subscribe I say the same thing every time okay here we go and with that that brings this week's episode to a close I really hope you've enjoyed it now if you don't already be sure to subscribe right now so you never miss a single episode hey hello in the comments below hello [Laughter] it's a great weekend and I will see you with a brand new episode next week and then they say love you and I blow them a kiss don't do that together yeah okay so we love you like this you're
