examining the promises of god luke chapter 24 verse number 25 luke 24 25 then he said unto them a full slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken next verse ought not christ to have suffered i'd like you to underline the word so far to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory and beginning at moses and all the prophets he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself look at that luke chapter 24 again verse 44 to 46 44 to 46 and he said unto them these are the words which i speak unto you while i was yet with you that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of moses and in the prophet and in the psalms concerning me next verse then open here their understanding that they might understand the scriptures next verse 46 and said unto them thus it is written and does it behoove christ to suffer underline the word suffer again the first one we saw sufferings when we see suffer and to rise from the dead the tortilla and to rise from the dead the toddy we have two things that the prophet said the sufferings of christ and the glory that will follow so we have sufferings and we have his glory two things we're going to look at quickly his death which we call his suffering his death which we call his suffering and the fact that he rose up from the dead and entered into his glory now look at that verse 46 of luke 24 verse 46 to 47 and said unto them to us it is written and thus it behoove christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the toddy verse 47 and that repentance and remission of sins shall be preached in his name among all nations beginning at jerusalem the word in his name on the line that if your bible was mine in his name which means there will be remission of sins where you have the word ephesus in the greek aphe ephesus the taken away of sins in his name which name the name that he had when he rose from the dead please pay attention enter into his glory the greek word essecomai a sequomai which means something that wasn't there before so when he says to enter into his glory it means that that particular glory he never had it before that's why the word is sacrament that that particular glory jesus never had it before you know we always think that jesus was in heaven on the throne then he left the throne empty and came to the earth and died he rose from the dead then went back to the throne you know and that's the way people always think but there's no scripture to back that claim some others believe that adam had the glory of god he lost it then jesus came to recover it all of that is not in the bible the word in luke 24 26 which is the word to suffer means you know it was in there to suffer and to enter into his glory a second mind it means a glory that he never had before romans chapter 5 verse 12 has the same word wherefore as by one man seen entered the word enter there is the word a sokomai it means a foreign object that never existed before has been introduced seen entered into the world and death by sin and so that passed upon all men for that all have seen the word entered same word with that word in luke 24 26 to enter into his glory it means he didn't have that particular glory before now so seeing was not in the world but seen entered into the world so the glory he entered was in there until the resurrection so this glory was prophesied and promised by god the word glory is the word doxa in the greek doxa doxa doxa always refers to either honor wealth riches but most important thing is that it is talking of value the word doxa value something of worth something of value he entered into his glory or better steel he entered into his value or wealth or honor which wasn't there before which he didn't have until he rose from the dead listen there are two elements that the prophecies and the promises had two elements and we shall examine them in a few minutes second corinthians before that chapter 1 verse number 20. ii corinthians new testament predated the old testament so that is why the old testament is a shadow of good things to come the old testament foreshadows the new testament which means that the new testament predated the old testament so but when we say old testament in the for the purpose of this teaching or for the purpose of reference we're talking about genesis to malachi so every time i say it always look at it in context all right because even the preaching of the world that i preach here it's always in context the old testament hasn't changed but we're referring to it now as touching the book of genesis to malachi in this context which were written also under that dispensation look at romans chapter 15 verse number 8 romans chapter 15 verse number 8 now i say that jesus christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of god to confirm the promises made unto the fathers to confirm the promises made unto the fathers so the promises were made unto the fathers when when were the promises made between genesis and malachi you will find the promises and the prophecies written they were spoken by the prophets then they were documented and the documentation will be in form of prophecies words that were spoken within those books the promises so the first thing we will see in the world is the sufferings of christ the sufferings of christ and we want to know in bible context what the sufferings of christ entail what do you mean by the word suffer because most of the times our idea of his sufferings are from you know movies things we have watched passion of the christ you know and all of that the movies give you what i call the sense knowledge view the sense knowledge view of what jesus did that is the movies cannot go beyond the four gospels the movies can only stay within matthew mark luke and john that is how far the movies can go they don't really understand what actually took place they just stayed within the eyewitness account which anybody could have written that account anybody around there could have reached that account because it was something they also had an experience but the things that happen to jesus is way beyond matthew mark luke and john so when he says the sufferings of christ the word suffering is the greek word pastor p-a-s-e-h-o in luke chapter 24 verse 26 luke 24 26 ought not cries to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory to have suffered these things the word pastor is used 42 times it actually has to do with an experience is a feeling or an experience to suffer look at matthew 16 21 matthew chapter 16 verse 21 from that time forth began jesus to show unto his disciples how that he must go on to jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised again the him so suffering had to do with you seeing things and experiencing things seeing things and experiencing things please pay attention there's a vital experience the word pastor a vital experience we seem to think that jesus is suffering was the fact that he was killed no that's not the suffering the killing was part a little part of the suffering not all of the suffering it was an experience you will see it again recorded in luke chapter 22 verse number 15 luke 22 verse number 15 and he said unto them with desire i have desired to eat this passover with you before i suffer before i suffer experience so there was an experience he was about to have there was an experience he was about to have look at acts of the apostles chapter one verse two and three the word pastor until the day in which he was taken up after that he through the holy ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen verse 3 to whom also he showed himself alive after his passion that's where they got the passion of the christ mel gibson all right now but the best that they could show was just physical physical beatings and all that by many infallible proofs being seen of them 40 days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of god sufferings pastor all right now the truth is that most sufferings couldn't have been the suffering all of those physical beings and stuff look at acts 3 18 acts chapter 3 verse 18 a lot of scriptures good for your health but those things which god before had showed by the mouth of all his prophets that christ should suffer he had so fulfilled that christ should suffer he had so fulfilled so that means there was a promise of christ to suffer that's why he has to fulfill it there was a promise of christ to suffer the mouth of his prophets prophesied meaning the words of the prophets so within the words of the prophet we will find the promise of jesus suffering within the words of the prophet we will find the promise of jesus suffering so sufferings look at acts chapter 17 verse number three acts chapter 17 verse number three opening and alleging that christ must needs have suffered and risen again from the dead and that this jesus whom i preach unto you is christ pastor suffered in first peter chapter one did you notice that the word sufferings was put in plural as it is not referring to an action in plural it is not referring to an action so the translators put it in plural in plural as it was not an action but an experience go to first peter chapter 1 verse 11 first peter chapter 1 and verse 11 searching what or what manner of time the spirit of christ which was in them did signify when it testified beforehand the sufferings see plural the sufferings of christ and the glory that shall follow and the glory that shall follow suffering's pasture in philippians chapter 3 verse 10 philippians chapter 3 verse number 10 brother paul philippians 3 10 and i may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings plural and the fellowship of his suffrage is not an action is a vital experience hence the use of plural plural by peter the fellowship of his sufferings the same thing look at hebrews chapter 2 verse 9 to 10 hebrews chapter 2 verse 9 to 10 but we see jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor that he by the grace of god should test death for every man suffering of death for it became him for whom are all things and by whom are all things and bringing many sons unto glory to make the cutting of their salvation perfect how through sufferings through sufferings look at first peter chapter 4 verse 13 and i'd like you to take note of first peter 4 13 take note of it but rejoice in as much as you are partakers of christ's sufferings that when his glory shall be revealed you may be glad also with exceeding joy underline that scripture then look at first peter chapter five verse number one first peter chapter five verse number one the elders which are among you are exalt who am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of christ and also a partaker of the glory that should be that shall be revealed a witness of the sufferings and a partaker of the glory the things the things now the thing is whenever you see that word pastor or the greek it refers to something you endure suffering something you endure something that is negative something that brings a sad emotion and hey hey guys that is not an experience i repeat that is not an experience if you kill someone he is dead he doesn't say i am experiencing death so death is not an experience he is dead and death happens just once you don't endure death no so that's not what he is saying here he's not talking about physical debts look at matthew 27 verse number 50 matthew 27 verse number 50 jesus when he had cried again with a loud voice yielded up the ghost he cried then he yielded up the ghost or gave up the ghost john 19 30 john chapter 19 verse 30 when jesus therefore had received the vinegar he said it is finished and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost they didn't collect the ghost from him he gave it up they didn't force it out of his hand gave up the ghost once all of that between when he was beaten and what happened before he died i don't think after he died anybody kept flogging him all that happened within few hours he died within few hours but the scriptures tell us he suffered for three days and three nights that means the flogging and the beating was not the suffering it was part of the suffering but there is a greater suffering that is beyond flogging and beating and you know and and all of the physical abuses because the flagging must have stopped when he gave up the ghost the physical touch almost had stopped when he gave up the ghost but when he gave up the goals was where the real suffering started from please pay attention that is where the real suffering started from so if his sufferings was for three days what were his sufferings what where his sufferings remember the beatings and all that happened within few hours few hours he was not dying for three days he died once he gave up the ghost so the sufferings therefore definitely we are looking at cannot be physical torture of his body the sufferings cannot be physical torture of his body the sufferings we are referring to cannot be the physical torture on his physical body but we can hear him talk then we will know exactly what he suffered what was his own experience what did jesus experience so let's follow him to the cross let's travel with jesus let's see what he said remember we are going to pick his words or sufferings from which part of the bible the old testament the old testament where was it promised the old testament so i wanted to see something now open your eyes and open your ears and make sure i have your complete attention because everything he did and said was promised everything he did and said was promised and you will see something unique now so three days matthew 7 46 he is on the cross now matthew 7 46 oh how matthew 7 46 matthew chapter 7 verse 46 hallelujah matthew know what he experienced we will see what he said so now jesus is on the cross he has been beaten he has been nailed to the cross already and he is feeling the pains he picks his words from the old testament a lawyer he cried out with a loud voice means he was not acting there was no drama that is exactly what was going on he screamed means he was enduring something he said my god my god why the bible says with a loud voice why have you forsaken me these are words in the emotion of the old testament speakers they searched out please pay attention in the emotions of the old testament speakers they searched out and found what god promised he was going to do at that point you will see men like david in psalm 22 verse 1 put it up for me psalms 22 verse number one my god my god why has now forsaken me my god my god why has thou forsaken me why are those so far from helping me and from the words of my roarings give me matthew 27 46 that's what i wanted to read few minutes ago matthew 27 what jesus repeated on the cross why because jesus was repeating the words of the prophets the words of the prophets so jesus said exactly that on the cross was he joking no was it dramatizing no if anything we can see the exact words spoken by the prophets my god my god why have you forsaken me the word forsaken is the word abandoned why have you abandoned me so does this show you his sufferings were not physical though it has a physical part of it because he didn't cry my god my god why is that forsaking me when they were beating him it was when he became seen he cried out because it was at the point where he became seen that the father turned this back all right now the fools around him on the cross thought he was crying for help why have you forsaken me wasn't a question it was a cry of a man that has taken the place of sinful men it was the cry of a man that has taken the place of sinful man so his sufferings we previously agreed was spiritual that's why we could only capture a few hours of it in the four gospels and this world best describes what actually happened i told you that the words jesus spoke in his sufferings where words prophesied that's how you will know that in his sufferings he spoke words in his sufferings he spoke words what did he do three days and three nights he spoke words they were words of the prophets that were said ahead of time so he said it he is not repeating the prophets he is just speaking based on what was happening at the material time but it agreed with what the prophet had spoken so his sufferings were primarily spiritual why has thou forsaken me so we can say that jesus was abandoned by god he is a man a man now on the cross abandoned by god which we call separation which we call separation so that means his sufferings please pay attention his sufferings was the fact that he was abandoned by god he is separated from god second corinthians chapter 5 verse 21 ii corinthians chapter 5 verse 21 for he hath made him to be seen for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of god in christ that we might be made the righteousness of god in christ so is the suffering because he was here you know he has never been beaten like that before no was the suffering because he has never had that experience before this is not about being beaten it's not about being flogged with all due respect there are criminals today that are beating walls than jesus was building especially with the development of different technologies you know they have the electric machine where they can you know shock somebody where they can actually roast somebody on an electric machine so there are advanced ways of physical torture today so that couldn't have been the entire sufferings of christ beating look at the way the king james version writers wrote it second corinthians 5 21 take note of something there second corinthians made him to be removed to be to be is not in the original he had made him sin for us he made him sin for us he didn't make him commit sin he made him sin for us the word there is the word polio p-o-i-e-o pollo it means to construct us to construct us you will find the same translation in the old you love a lady tomorrow she gets you angry you tell her get out you treat her like the greatest enemy of your life that's human love a lady you love a guy you want to die for him you give him everything just one little thing you are ready to destroy him completely that's human love that's all we're talking about the love of god is so that in the depth of your sin it changes nothing about his perspective for you he has loved you with an everlasting love there's nothing you can do to change it that's the kind of love we're talking about love that risk everything he gave up everything look when he died he died with an understanding that he will have to rise by himself he died with an understanding that's why he said i laid down my life i pick it up by myself and listen he didn't
