hey guys richard rich rebuilds here and we are back with the ebay motor special v8 powered tesla and i wanted to apologize for last week's video in the first two days it was only at 360p so i know i looked a little bit different but rest assured it was still me so if you didn't like the 360p version go watch it again because now it's at a full stunning 1080p for your viewing pleasure and there's a link to that video on the screen right now so make sure you put in your watch later list to get up to speed now this is your first time here we're building a v8 powered tesla for reasons that don't make sense to most but thank you for clicking on the video out of pure curiosity for interesting things now there's only two weeks until sema and this car still needs lots of work to prepare for the big show today we'll be doing lots of touches and prep for that the main focus today will be cooling remember the tesla was never designed to cool this massive heat pump and more importantly neither was the front bumper so today we're going to do as much heat remediation as possible starting with the floor of the car so heat doesn't enter the cabin as well as the front end to allow the car to take in as much cool air as possible without hacking up the front bumper so much that people would suspect something is up now there's a lot to cover in this episode so let's get started all right chad show me show me what you got in your hand here we have the hall tech yeah yeah the i7 the touch display i don't know look at that bracket guys ladies and gentlemen what you're looking at this is not how tech did not give us this chad made this bracket yeah this is all made it's made that's pretty badass man let's see it in the car look how's this gonna look is that the last bolt to secure it in the middle well it was up too high okay so [Music] oh yeah so yeah it fits just enough so there's a light bar right above here now the plastic dash frame is not in which will move this yeah gotcha so you can see the light bar and it's still tucked under it yeah the light bar it's like an indicator bar that has like just warning stuff things that you should pay attention to shift lights and all sorts of stuff it does it does multi-function so that'll be sitting like under here and we'll have to you know finalize the position you want to finish up the wiring on the inside first we have to get that plastic dashboard carrier on first before we use so that's why this i mean there's a lot of wiring here the accelerator pedal i got uh this goes to that which i found out there's more inputs to this on top of the regular hall attack so there's a bunch of other wiring up stuff to finish up right before we finalize all this but hopefully we can get that done today all right brian go into this with an open mind my friend this is not good all right so we got our radiator sport right and uh whoa yeah i know i know what happened here thank you vendor so what i asked him i was like listen guys like we need this more than anything it has to be in great condition it can't be broken like listen i promise it's not broken and that's what was shipped to me and this is what you get the good thing is it's not going to have any weight it's not going to have the weight of the center radiator and it's not going to have the weight of the condenser at the side so that's at least pretty good but this is a it's a crappy break but it's still fixable but it just again it adds to the time that we have to get this card on which actually kind of stinks but yeah yeah i mean all the pieces are here which is good it's a clean break we might actually be able to get away with some fiberglass work to repair this or a couple of pieces of metal i think if we get like a a thin sheet of metal that you were saying and have it here like a base plate yeah and secure it to it we might be okay all right brian let's see what you got baby what are you doing so i think the patient's gonna survive okay i've repaired this crack down here just by putting some epoxy in it was kind of uh broken like this so that there was a lot of surface area for the glue to work on very similar over here too this is a much more straight break so that's going to be really difficult and in the structural place it is i'm worried the epoxy is not going to be enough at all so what we'll do is we'll take probably 22 24 gauge piece of sheet metal put it here and like rivet or build it up so that we actually have some structure right and then we're just gonna have to make a shim plate over here so the bumper sits at the same place aren't there already shim plates can we use an extra shim plate that we might have do we have any extra i don't know if we have extras sure okay yeah then we'll have to cut a piece of metal for that so i've got the ratchet strap and clamps and everything to kind of keep it where it needs to be yep and i'm gonna give it a little while to set and then i'll come back and we'll try to get this fixed okay sounds good one piece at a time all right brian okay to share what you've been doing so far with the class that you didn't want me to record before because it wasn't done yet and now you're done with the process so people didn't see how you did it well that's how it goes half the time so with the cracks here i wasn't confident that it would be able to hold yep so i've added in here's one piece of metal yep um 22 gauge that just reinforces this whole thing i actually made up an angle bracket here and as i was working i noticed over here there was another crack so it made a couple angle brackets throughout nice sub these are poppers in place and also epoxied so you can barely see all the little rivet heads there but they're clearing cool everything that it needs to avoid good stuff all right so and i figured the epoxy is cuz you know suspenders in the belt right yeah of course make it look good what are you doing we are reluctantly covering up this beautiful transmission it's really a shame all of joshua's hard work joshua all your hard work's being covered up right now uh by carpet so i'm sorry joshua how do you feel make you feel shameful thrilled joshua just sees joshua always looks like everyone around who's really bothering him and i think it's it's actually kind of true it's like like it seems like joshua was just simply tolerating josh was at his wit's end at any moment at any given point in time he might kill us well you know what i think i know why you know why fun fact when joshua came up here to the shop do you know how joshua was able to get from his home and wherever he lives to the shop oh well how would let's just pretend you've never been somewhere before you hop on your tesla a little fancy little car and you'd probably speak to it and say i would like to go here and we'd bring you there yeah or if you didn't have a tesla you drove a regular car like most people you would probably get your phone and you'd type in the waze or whatever app you use to get where you need to go right assuming one key element there what if that phone is able to do right i said thank you so for for example if you have an android phone you can't get anywhere right but but i will say uh joshua has neither one of those things right he's not a tesla owner nor does he own a smartphone so how did he get here did he print out map quest directions yes absolutely [Music] oh wow we're right back in how many pages was it two two pages that's not bad that's not so good it's not that's not bad at all it's like wait when was that done in the 90s because like when did when like the tom toms and those things come out i mean i'm showing my age here i had to do that when i was 16. i recall that before the tom tom and the carmen okay yeah which is fine but like you know nowadays like i don't know it's just yeah i quickly went to the garment because i was like i don't want you to have the luxury of jumping i had the luxury of folding maps for my old oh yes the big old maps ed mcmahon's i used to have this thing ray mcnally rand mcnally yeah yeah yeah did i say ed mcmahon is that even the thing baby that's not even a thing yeah that's one there yeah here's this map fold it so i can read it while i'm driving that is crazy yeah that's that's classic old old-school stuff all right yeah so sorry what are we doing we have super 77 this multi-purpose adhesive and we're going to spray the backing this is not an ad no it's it is not it's just really good it's just really good we just want to let you know if you want to do your own arts and crafts this is a good choice no it really is pretty good if you don't have any money you could just this is a generic one you could get to i think yeah there is there's always an option or if we don't use all of that you could have the rest of it management rich rebuilds.com these emails that's like anyway so yeah we're just gonna put that on and then carpet and do a tuck here and get a little finished trim piece nice there's chad's fine wiring job but uh yeah it'll cover it up nicely and make it look uh as close to oem until you realize this is a tesla with a bump here hey wait a second yeah what do you put your feet if you sit in the middle you just you just sit higher than everyone else yeah you have that awkward type of seat where you know your knees are in your your boobs yeah all right okay your boobs you're assuming a lot with steven here if you don't have them then you're you're used to me a lot and now we have the final of the caboose here turn it all in that looks good almost almost yeah like this that looks very good i do i can't wait to sit back here i'll i will never sit back here is an awkward looking test i can't no it's very awkward yeah oh yeah oh boy oh boy yeah it looks really good you kind of oh i know what this is yeah i've been i've been to quite a few uh truck stops to know what goes on here no this isn't that kind of hole oh i'm sorry explain it's not a club [Music] oh um well so what we did was we repurposed some of this fine tesla is that mammoth no it's not it's a houndstooth no that's a trunk trunk floor trim oh okay so we actually peeled off basically delaminated the carpet from it nice and we're repurposing that so that the carpet matches the drapes yes so we're trying to get the exact nice the hole must be exact richard nice it's got to be exact that is an exact hole that's my measurement i'm four inches back this is my mark i got four inches of space before yeah my center console comes in nice okay yeah looks damn good you got it you're proud of it you're proud of your work i'm i'm excited i'm excited to see the cup holders instructor uh yeah come together because this area i mean as much as we'd like to keep this beautiful training yeah i know it's the same how good it looks yeah we need it finished so all we will now see is this and there's no bezel because you know race cars don't they don't do that you don't have those well we're going we don't need no damn bezels no we don't so we're just gonna have carpet right to this uh sequential okay it's gonna be great sounds good yeah man it's like a great can't wait make tussles great again make well when were they bad chad and i are marking out the center console's frame putting our sharpie on where we need to make our holes looks like we got all four on there hey how about that that looks good let's drill some holes and uh just some holes mount them up and call it a day hoping not to drill into the transmission i get a little mark here yeah that'd be bad gonna have a bad time [Applause] people that like drill porn okay so here's the dilemma we need official cooling on the v8 tesla so what i'm going to do is i'm going to repurpose these lovers and these ducts to make a really efficient and kind of slick cooling setup for this car because the radiator has to get cooling unfortunately these front bumpers weren't designed for more airflow so i'm gonna work on that right now what i've done so far was i've actually cut out this mold uh for the duct and i'm going to trace this out on some acrylic and once i do that i'm gonna cut two holes in here put some ducts on and we should be good to go we're being resourceful and we're recycling you know you have a dryer we're gonna use this dryer vent right here is that what that is yeah it's flexible foil duct four inches of it a whole four inches but it's 20 feet long you can do a lot before you do a lot of four don't let anyone tell you otherwise all my all my small kings out there stay strong it stays strong it's your time to shine you know i don't know what that's like but i've heard it's it'll be terrible we've heard that's very unfortunate you know what do they say it's not the size of the wave it's the motion of the ocean something that's the justification of it something like that it never helps them sleep at night if you want to if you have trouble tossing and turning at night young king four inches is more than enough for someone someone someone different strokes for different [ __ ] strokes so okay so we got the duct i mean we'll see if we want this to be seen but i mean it might look kind of haggard when it starts to curve off yeah maybe it's maybe not man yeah it's kind of funny though isn't it kind of funny yeah i actually kind of like it low-key it's kind of cool but it's going to be painted black yeah yeah yes it's now official yeah black is what's happening yeah black is it's beautiful black is beautiful really beautiful said the guy with a black eye shiny shininess seriously i'm like i'm like glistening yeah i feel like i'm pregnant are you [ __ ] i don't get pregnant right that's just fallen upon us yeah it'd be what it do it's a night sky this thing's finally all set man i'm just putting the uh finishing touches on it but that's the duck thing that we're gonna have oh wow and uh these are the vents gonna be right here and right here obviously not connected to each other oh yeah like a human it's a human centipede it doesn't really do much back there that's a little much but uh yeah that's going to be on both sides this is going to be one form of cooling the second one is going to be right under the nose cone what we're going to do too is we're actually going to drill some further holes we're going to pull the bottom of the nose cone for more air flow and depending on things how things go it's like a silencer exactly depending on how things go with um with the radiator once that's installed when the nose cone is in we actually may consider taking this top portion off too because this middle section you might think rich just take the whole nose cone off let me show you something real quick let me show you come on down hey guys take this take the nose tonight let's show you what that looks like nothing nothing happened so this is this is what it's going to look like but you know that crash bar is right there in the middle we're going to have cooling at the bottom cooling in the middle i'm going to drill some holes in the nose cone so a little bit more air passes through there but the nose cone is going to come about right here and hide the majority of this crash bar we're debating honestly if we clean up the wiring here enough we might just leave this top section open maybe we might kind of leave like you know maybe the decorative tee right here or maybe the chevy logo depending on how we're feeling a little risky yeah uh but we'll we'll leave some kind of trim here so it's a little bit more finished that just looks like a keyhole but but we might leave a little gap here we'll do some wire tucking in the background and clean that up really nice so it's just a direct shot right into the radiator i mean we could just take the crash bar sport out too we could just take who needs a crash bar honestly we're going we don't need crash bars the uh the semi-finished product on the other side we're gonna have a few different options uh because there's two ducks here i keep saying am i saying alright duct or duck i keep saying duck duck there's two ducks you can't even say it right words people just say a lot a lot of words so um we're gonna aluminium we're gonna have some duct work here because there's two ports for it we could literally have one channeled to the brakes i don't think the brakes would be getting that hot in a stock car uh or number two we could have one of them channel to the radiator and the second one we could have channel to the uh to the headers because this car has long two patterns and those things get hot yes we're not really sure how that heat's gonna react with the aluminum aluminium just yet i vote headers but yeah so we're gonna have a lot of different options that's uh you got the fade look at that the light fades in ready watch yeah oh you you can't know it didn't really do that yeah i didn't didn't do it didn't show on camera i'm sorry so there's a lot more room than we initially thought under here which is kind of good remember this is uh this is an oem configuration it's a completely stock motor only thing that's aftermarket on this on this motor are the fuel rails because it's stock oem we want to make sure it has at least at the very minimum the same if not better cooling than a stock camaro ss does and this will have better cooling in it after looking at the front bumper of a camaro what we just did cutting those new inlets for airflow it's definitely going to have a lot more flow than a stock camaro number two we're actually gonna have two larger cooling fans on the radiator and it's gonna be a bigger radiator we're gonna have a bigger radiator more cores more cooling fans more ducks i mean honestly it's just going to be it's going to be overall a better setup it's blacktastic it's quiet it's quacktastic steven you know i was sticking here today what if something would have happened to one of us i don't know where that was going yeah yeah no yeah what if what if what would i do what if what if something were to happen to one of us we're gonna be fine but what if something happened to this car all of this work we're putting into this car what if something happened well there's a there's a solution for that what's the solution boop policy genius thank you any time it makes it easy to compare home and auto insurance in one place and they can help you find the same coverage you have now but at a lower price steven and they save customers an average of guess how much guess how much they save 1250. an average of 12 i don't know how you knew that but an average of 1250 per year over what they're paying for insurance now here's what you gotta do go to policygenius.com tree builds answer a few quick questions they'll compare all rates from the top insurance companies and find a lower rate for you and guess what if they find a better rate they will switch you for free and what do i love the most free things what's your favorite just click on the link in the description box below like those shoes to get to get stuff yes those free clown shoes to get to get started i like these actually i don't like these shoes you don't i don't like them at all that's thick it's thick you know i like a thick chad but jeez that's a it's a bit much so you don't even water it down no nope no need to wow the gun's special a lot it'll take it if you think about it we're literally adding like five pounds ten miles let's stop to the bottom of the car yeah i can tell when it's empty just by the way all right moment of truth chad is gonna show us all the uh heat resistant thermo paint underneath iced tea and the reason why we need that is because you know the exhaust is going to get super hot obviously and uh we need some extra coating underneath there let's see what it looks like that does look wow right wow wow it looks awesome that looks awesome look at that yeah so that paint is uh is resistant up to is it five 500 degrees it's ceramic ceramic uh embedded yeah name is 500 degrees and it's also sound bending material awesome so that's going to be a lot quieter in here we want to hear a lot of less noise vibration harshness under here but this is this is awesome man this is only the first coat we're going to do the second coat yeah so some some spot full heavy it's a little like some other spots so i got to go over it again yeah and give it a nice even coat uh this is one gallon oh you only did the one jim i only have one shim okay yeah so i'm gonna make another shim to fix these yeah space a little bit more it was sitting just a little too far back look at these welds from tesla just just saying just saying if i did this i'd be crucified but tesla does it you know it's okay on a hundred and fifteen thousand dollar car no big deal i was having a bad day right this this is fine if i did risk the welding well just just saying i'm just i'll say it again i'm just emulating what tesla does that's all i'm doing do you see this booger here yeah look at that huh interesting this little splatter they try to grind it down try to grind it down yeah nice try you know they say grinder and paint makes tussle the welders they ain't that's my weld at 15 an hour gosh you paint those robots more surveys tests where are we at all right all right it's close if we tilt the back like you suggested a little angle might actually yeah actually yes i see it sit vertically because i see it there's a dimple in the head right there that's perfect that's perfect yeah land it that's great wow wow yeah put it down put it down again no modifications necessary look at it put it up put it up put it down put it up put it down yeah yeah wow it's like a hot dog in the hallway but it works wow so pretty that's pretty cool man that's cool now now for everybody we did think of this it's not like we didn't think about the radiator but it still was stressful it still was mighty tall i think hey just think boys this isn't the final form this isn't the radiator it's going in there either no there's plenty of depth for a uh deeper more core radiator the only the only real issue is we really don't have much room for a frunk anymore no no that's damage so i had to build a bunch of shims and stuff to get this to sit right the bolts weren't quite lining up but i did things to um wasn't your fault tesla's back you know as as we did and um it seems to be coming together pretty well obviously the uh proof will be when the bumper goes on and we see you know those those panel gaps were famous for listen no no no no we're avoiding that no this is a sema show car well because i shimmed everything it actually will sit really nicely yeah yeah for sure i'm pretty happy with how this came out wasn't how i planned on spending the day well no one planned on having a package uh with a broken item in it yeah nobody wants that you never expect the thing you want to show up to be broken right but you can hardly tell now at least your heart wasn't broken i'm a sentimental man i i cry sometimes you know me too i cry a lot a real men cry yeah i'm not i'll never be ashamed of crying it doesn't make you any less of a man just remember that seriously i'm i'm being totally honest it's uh yeah usually i'm gonna cry when i see the bill of things i squeal like a pig rich uh by the way the the bell for iced tea is about to come out no no no no no no no look at this beautiful interior look at this seven hey howdy beautiful glamour shots by deb all right but that looked like we're seconds that's probably what we're saying now let's let's let's talk about what you've been working so diligently on which is the carpets matching the drapes so that looks that looks pretty badass we're not done this is where we're still gluing certain things we've got this part handled though that was imperative that looks damn good man folks oh yeah look at this you can't there's no there's no seams yeah there's no seams it's seamless this is perfect this is this is really cool we got the look at this cup holders get your beverage um chad will be working on the the healthtech controller will be basically right there too so you've got your tesla screen will be up there your healthtech will be down there your cup holder there and then everyone keeps saying why don't we port the display of the haltech onto the tesla screen and the answer is no anyways don't even listen that is yeah go ahead that doesn't even deserve an explanation no the answer is no this screen is for your your windows yeah it's for your locks it's for your radio all your normal tesla stuff not your way to charge because we don't have that anymore no this screen is for everything that's for your motor that's for everything else right this there's two screens like oh why don't you port this no they know do they know that seem as in a matter of like weeks i don't think they know that literally minutes from now that's coming so yeah and then everyone keeps the other excuses that oh they're much further ahead than they really are like that's yeah no no we're ready ready watch this ready watch this break the third wall wednesday october 13th 9 17 my phone's going to die look at that no this is and this is look this is where we're at what's up chad what's up it's late it's late we're still here we're still here that's what we do that's what we do man we work all right so back to your thing that looks damn good so yeah we're this is this is insecure we have to adjust this because obviously our transmission tunnel was slightly bigger yeah and the oem uh tesla cup holder chad look at look at this chad can i tell you what about what you're doing electronics this looks like it's this looks like it's oem but it's but chad made that bracket there you like that i like that a lot yeah put a real lot why is there a charge port back there if you notice carefully there's a charge port right here explain why that charger that charge port is designed unfortunately the charger is on the data line and it tells it the car if there is a cable plugged in or not and there is no direct wire to give that status it's a can message so instead of trying to spoof it and and put that in there or rewriting the lines of code to get it out of there i put the charge port in there and they didn't put a switch on it for the toggle to think that there's a plug in so we can turn it on and off to cycle it right so it won't it won't scream like hey unplug the card before you can drive it right because it'll actually show up as an alert on the instrument cluster if you unplug a charge port it will come up and say there's a cable installed the default is when it doesn't see the charge port it will not turn on and it will not drive because it thinks there's a cable there the the problem that you're solving is effectively you know how do we prevent the car from harassing us over and over again and saying hey hey you take the charge cable out hey it can't read the charge port right you know it's it's just easier to just to do that right okay that looks really good so there's a switch on that and you could just reach over underneath the dash and switch it on and off if you need to yeah sometimes you have to cycle the charge port to make it play nice so because as of right now this car car yeah still thinks it's a tesla yes yeah so this car identifies as a tesla exactly non-binary tesla i'm i'm going to stop that non-binary conversation right now because the more you talk about it you know what happens you get it canceling i don't know which should be canceled i like i like my nice things like my knockoff tesla sneakers how's it going chad uh i am learning uh hal tech here on the fly i've never heard of that like there's some there's some programmable inputs and outputs and i'm trying to understand what i can do with certain inputs and outputs to in order to wire them into the car do have four different fuel pumps in this this tank so i want to be able to have two turn on initially and have the computer turn on the other ones at a later time as needed so i'm trying to understand which which ones i can i can do that with this is what they give me for options so i'm trying to see what options i have here too you don't have any pornhub tabs open to you okay just making sure sometimes we have weird tabs when we record stuff so it's good to see that you you don't no i do not i'm like rich and i yeah just talking about our tabs oh jesus yeah chad didn't have any weird tabs he didn't no he's a respectable man hey man you're drying your hair oh you don't have hair yeah nope no no that brings me back to an old time an old time even that homeless man had really beautiful hair he really did and he had a people were saying he had a better beard than me too which is it's kind of weird considering he's homeless i mean that's what's the show man it doesn't mean much it doesn't mean much not everybody can grow a thorough beer not everyone can and it's it's a damn shame honestly so anyways what are you doing the blow dryer uh right now i am actually i'm taking the heat gun and i'm gonna open up this headlight because right now it's chrome and chrome is bad that's cool you want to have a black housing headlight so i'm gonna open these up tape all the housings off and then paint the inside black people may not know this but you did this with dolores back in the day too yeah she's been through three variations of those yes the first one was all black standard the second one was black with the red ring and the third one now is the matte gray to match the wrap so she's gonna do multiple iterations of that but yeah this is uh just heating up the glue it's gonna start it's actually separating on its own a little bit you can see a little gap right there a little it'll do that after you undo these uh tabs you just go to town man so this should be ready to start crying pretty soon you can't handle the heat you yeah the kitchen hey chad why do you ever want these to be closed aerodynamics so when you close it that makes it when the louvers are all closed in the front end it creates an air curtain yeah it allows the car to pass through the wind we'll show a fancy thing on screen for people for that because yeah we're there's two sets of louvers they have the ones on the outside and they have a two here in the radiator section yeah so at certain times they'll close these but leave the ones here open so it creates kind of like a little rammer comes in goes out to the ductwork and comes out to the fender gotcha and then the when they do that that creates a air pillow over the wheel and it creates yeah you like that they're really big into that dynamic so this was the first stage of them trying to do aerodynamics right the model x if you notice they have duct work yes inside the front half of the fender and that's why we're going to do because they started to do it they started doing it with i think was this section here they brought it out and they put duct work here on the side to create the air pocket the air curtain did they ever figure out a way to have these not fail anymore no every single car i've seen so far they all have failed on yeah i mean you may not notice because it doesn't throw a hard alert but in the soft alerts they're all guaranteed your car has these that are built on them yeah it's easy to tune open these can also jam closed and then you start having ac problems on the highway and whatnot right and these i mean they mounted these super it's the lowest people don't notice it until they're supercharging and they hear a weird whirring sound wait what is that so these are these are the lowest point of the car yep and i'm surprised they didn't do a better job making these a little bit more watertight but these fail all the time oh you know you live and learn as a young upcoming factory apparently i've seen them fail as recently as 2021 as well what's the excuse now what's that excuse me i really thought yeah so so yeah so that's the crash course on the louvers aerodynamics uh cooling for supercharging because you know i mean when you are ramming those much electrons in there you need that that's cool and so now for the purpose of ice t we need ram air to cool the radiator the radiator and and that pig right there that's not gonna cool itself very easily so like people don't realize the heat that is generated by the by even electric cars for super charging you're pushing 500 amps on a supercharger dc to a battery pack that stuff's gonna get hot so in order to cool that you have to run through the ac and that's when the louvers and the radiator will take a play in it and if those are all stuck closed you're not getting your airflow that's gonna cause the ac to overheat and it's not gonna be able to cool the battery which then kills your supercharging so it's all it's all important stuff i mean and we have this i mean so you know so we're on another level of cooling [Music] joshua no guard oh my goodness i have my safety squeeze oh my goodness no oh boy look at that look at this exhaust damn boy hey joshua you want to talk about what you did or no probably not huh thanks joshua was a man of few words oh look at this setup what is going on here what the heck is this that's pretty slick josh that's nice wow i like that that and that built this car that's amazing look at that is that makita a makita with no guard and milwaukee built this car
