Solving Monaco's overtaking problems (kinda)

so we got the monaco grand prix on this weekend and even though i've been a fan of the sport for as long as i can remember which there's a problem seeing as how i don't remember stuff too good i've got a love-hate relationship with this track nothing beats the sight of seeing these cars being flung around the streets by some of the best drivers in the world just gracing the armco barriers in a bid to go slightly faster than their teammates and such but when it comes to the actual race yeah you can't pass here you can't pass there precision this precision that i mean realistically are there any places to pass on this circuit well you can try some heroics down the center vault but that only works out well none of the time you can try on the run up the hill if you've got a death wish there's mirabeau if the car ahead obliges to do what nelson pico calls opening the legs 02 for the low's hairpin portier is possible kinda the novel chicane is the best place on the circuit to pass arguably and even that place is tricky sometimes from to back through the swimming pool it's essentially a one-line groove until you get to larascas there you can make a lunge if you dare the final corner onto the main straight isn't much of an overtaking opportunity although marcus armstrong kind of put that theory to rest when he yeasted past jihan daravala and before you know it laps over so clearly there's a problem with overtaking on this circuit so how do we solve it well i went back and forth on this thing trying to find a way how we can get more overtaking opportunities on this track and frankly i couldn't find any there's only so much you can do with this stretch of the mediterranean problem with this joint is that the infrastructure is already there so you gotta maneuver around it there's also the slight issue of the mediterranean sea being right there racing cars have a difficult time trying to work while submerged in water thus making the task at hand a tad trickier i'm sure there's a way that overtaking opportunities can be found but i just can't find them maybe someone else can as with the catalonia video i asked your answer my followers to see what they could produce for this i set up no boundaries whatever they came up with was admissible so let's see what they came up with so let's start off with the i've started a bad trend here haven't i carell says second drs zone in the tunnel and more space in the chicane after that i mean drs in the tunnel that's that's kind of massively dangerous but hey what's life without a little danger right it's always been said that formula one cars have enough downforce to run upside down so let's try it at monaco and create an overtaking spot on the roof of the tunnel i tell you what we all think we're smart but racing films coming at us here with a billion iq answer turn off half the track and make bachrane turn one clone it may be logistically tricky however given there's lots of water there matt smith says run it at night it won't make racing any better but it'll look amazing can confirm this does actually look awesome simple for monaco remove all the aero parts widen the track over the water going into tobacco making overtaking easier and definitely making you a lot dumber if you hit the wall well in the first place that's actually a decent idea and second of all there are plenty of dumb racing drivers out there so john says instead of drs following cars can cut the nouvelle chicane lap does not count toward faster's lap like you're thinking as he says lawn mowers around monaco leaves plenty of space for overtaking and we would get a spec series race how would that look [Music] we got to do it we just got to do we got to do it calm says we take out to back replace it with an aerial jump over the harbor might spice things up a little yeah i guess you could say that hazel says make the cars about a meter and a half shorter and a foot and a half less wide and also electric hazel come on do you really think something like that would work around monaco de costa to the outside and to the lead all locked up gets it stopped okay i'll go myself move the race somewhere else like let's say kailami we need kyle army but i don't know at the expense of monaco however build a track extension out into the sea and keep the telco led away from the plans hey hey hey hey telco is not wholly responsible for all of these bad tracks he's only majorly responsible not entirely being hinchcliffe says make the drivers run the circuit for qualifying then race and golf carts hmm so sir lancelot is suggesting a rally stage essentially i mean it goes out into the harbour but it doesn't really go anywhere else oh no first one into the drink gets the win okay remove the grandstands and stick to two and three and simply make the track wider blow the track up and replace it with hockenheim just make cars smaller that's all we need smaller cars that can follow i mean this isn't really a suggestion for improving the track but that's a fair point i mean these cars have got too much good ditch the f1 cars and bring out the go-karts they actually did that before and it was actually pretty cool not gonna lie get rid of the pit lane where it is use that as a joker lap kind of deal have the actual pit lane after the tunnel exit b formula e seem to work out for them during the e3 yes but again we're talking about improving the track not about improving the cars that's a good point though another one suggesting no arrow on the cars will they be able to overtake i don't know will i make the race interesting yes okay sound argument are real here maybe remove a bit of the inside wall going into the nouvelle chicane it's a decent idea but it is a bit of a dip there here's a crazy idea maybe don't race at monaco anymore charlie m charlie m charlie m swap the driver's f1 cars for supercards request overtake must be accepted excuse me i do believe i'm faster than you ah sorry all ben allow me to just there you go good luck in the race you too imagine this kind of courtesy in real racing unless we're making the cars much smaller much slower and much similar there really isn't much to be done around monaco you know what um she has a point there there really isn't much that can be done around here i don't i don't think this is salvageable i don't think anything can be done it's unfeasible but you know let's look at one more tweet number two it fits what is it with these things that are fitting you need a corner with some park or open space at the edge so you can make a banked wider overtaking friendly exit this would need a bridge and a different approach to a famous corner think how wide the exit under the bridge could be might actually work oh my god that that's he did it you crazy son of a you did it you've done it well german has saved the monaco grand prix so to the acm organizers of the monaco grand prix whilst this may be a unique concept take heed at what has been recommended to you this could be the thing that saves the monaco grand prix or else we may be stuck with a processional race where the winner is decided by the time they get
