we have a twin-engine aircraft that can fly even if one of the engines completely gives out we also have the three aircraft that we're competing for the record of smallest aircraft in the world mc stands for michel columban which is the name of the aeronautical engineer from france he began working on the model back in 1970 in about three years time he managed to build the smallest twin-engine manned aircraft and the plane took its flight on july 19 1973. clearly this is a low wing aircraft with a fixed tricycle landing gear and that iconic bubble canopy the prototype and early examples were called mc10 creekery and with some improvements we had the mc12 creek creek until finally when this small aircraft was equipped with the jpx pul 212 engines we got the mc-15 creek creek each of the engines produced 15 horsepower but that still wasn't enough they later equipped the mc15 creek creek with turbojet engines and during the 2011 max air show they showcased the all-electric creek with four engines there's a reason for the plane's success and that can be simply explained as follows columbon's plane is easy to build and fly much like the engineer intended this plane can be easily stored in a garage or towed on a small trailer then when you need to fly it it'd take you less than five minutes to assemble or disassemble the aircraft of course because the engines were placed so close to each other if one of them gave out the other one would be able to continue the flight the only effect the pilot would feel is a gentle turn as you've already guessed this is a one seater with a wingspan of 4.9 meters or 16 feet and a length of 3.9 meters or almost 13 feet long if you took the entire aircraft and put it on a body scale it'll measure 172 pounds or 78 kilograms and here's the good news the mto is 375 pounds or 170 kilograms that's over 200 pounds of cargo which allows plenty of room for the pilot the max speed of this aircraft is 140 miles per hour or 220 kilometers per hour and the cruise speed is about 190 kilometers per hour or 120 miles per hour with a range of 460 kilometers which is the equivalent of 290 miles they were small they were single seaters and they were sold as kit planes the man who designed them was an engineer by the name of jim beatty the plane took its first flight in september of 1971 and when people saw these aircraft they wanted only one thing to have them since the price was rather affordable people ordered 5 000 kids to build at home seeing the success of this model jim decided to smash that like button if you haven't done so already but no in all seriousness he decided to create the bd aircraft corporation which had around 12 000 orders however only a small number of those were ever built because the company went under in the mid-1970s today there are about 150 bd5 models completed and approximately 30 of them can be flown and its small size has earned bd's bd5 the record for world's smallest jet aircraft why because the weight of this bad boy is only 358.8 pounds or about 162.7 kilograms the mto stood at an impressive 660 pounds or 300 kilograms most of the weight from the kit plane comes from the single hearth two-cylinder two-stroke engine that produces 70 horsepower and a max speed of 232 miles per hour or 373 kilometers per hour the cruise speed is only slightly lower standing at 229 miles per hour or 369 kilometers per hour and on a full tank of gas you can expect to reach a destination that's 930 miles away the equivalent of 1500 kilometers because it was so popular the company built several variations of the same aircraft but as we've already stated the company had trouble in the mid 70s because of this one of the biggest reasons the company couldn't build their d models was because they couldn't find a suitable engine to power it so not a single one of these aircraft the baker super cat is nothing more than just an improvement on the already successful baker bobcat which was introduced back in 1984. this plane was designed by bobby baker who intended the aircraft to be a plane that people could build from the convenience of their own home it might not be the most powerful plane out there but it sure is one of the most popular planes out there there's a reason for this the plane is an ultra light with removable wings this makes it very easy to transport and store on top of that it has low wings coupled with an open cockpit the landing gear is conventional and the thing that surprised us the most is the fact that the construction is made entirely out of wood still the bobcat didn't reach its full potential so they upgraded to the super cat which in 1994 got awarded the grand champion light plane during the eaa air venture oshkosh air show this happened when they equipped the plane with a modified naca 4415 airfoil and a rotax 500 350 horsepower the empty weight of the plane is only 325 pounds or 147 kilograms and a fuel capacity of 8 gallons which means the plane can take you anywhere you want to go as long as the destination isn't further than 140 miles or 230 kilometers thanks to the rotax 503 twin cylinder two-stroke engine that as we said produces 50 horsepower the cruise speed of the super cat is about 75 miles per hour or 121 kilometers per hour with 16 feet length and a wingspan of 27 feet you can say that this plane is somewhat large for the class but not as big as the cessna citation mustang the cessna citation can be operated by either one or two people and can carry about four to five people on board depending on the weight wait a damn minute didn't you guys say this video is going to be about mini aircraft we did and it is this is the smallest jet you'll ever find out there the plane was launched during the national business aviation association back in 2002 and just three years later the plane soared to the skies taking its first flight since this monumental event on april 23 2005 cessna has been producing the citation mustang since 2006. do people like it can you tell us there are about 479 units built in about 11 years needless to say the factory had to cancel production back in 2017 the reason production was canceled is because cessna shot their own knee by creating the cessna citation m2 which was a direct competitor to the citation mustang so people just opted in for the m2 while demand drastically fell for the mustang before that the plane was very popular with their clientele cessna even launched the high sierra back in 2012 a more advanced and more powerful aircraft than this previous model speaking of which let's talk a little bit about the design sesston designed their mustang as a low wing cantilever monoplane it had that iconic t-tail the plane was big enough for only one door and there was an additional emergency exit on board the inside was made of luxurious leather and had the capacity to sit four people on those comfortable leather chairs there's even more room to squeeze in a fifth guy if you wish inside the cockpit there's room for two pilots but you can opt in to fly this plane with only one pilot on board the length of this aircraft is about 40 feet while its wingspan is 43 feet since it's powered by two pratt and whitney canada pw615f turbofans the mustang can reach an astonishing speed of 483 miles per hour which is the equivalent of kilometers per hour the cruise speed is slightly lower at about 390 miles per hour or 630 kilometers per hour but if you want to go 1350 miles 2 150 kilometers then you can do so on just one full tank of gas tangent aircraft from the usa has proposed this design for the electric motor glider model 5 or emg 5 for short now this plane is planned to be compliant with the ultralight specs which will allow anyone to fly it without the need of a pilot's license or be classified as a motor glider for which in the u.s people will require a glider pilot license they wanted to include a retractable tricycle landing gear folding wings and even a ballistic recovery parachute all driven by an electric motor the goal weight they wanted to be was 254 pounds and back in 2012 this seemed easy but the team at tangent didn't take into account the batteries configuring the weight of the aircraft inside this one-seater was a greater challenge than anticipated they were burning more money than ever and they had to cancel the project they instead opted in for the emg6 still let's talk a little bit about this failed project that was supposed to conquer the sky the prototype had a length of 19 feet or 6 meters and a wingspan almost doubled the length or 36 feet 11 meters the gross weight of the plane wasn't supposed to exceed 550 pounds but we already talked about the problems they had with the empty weight if everything went according to plan the mg-5s double pluttenberg predator 37 electric engines which produced 16 horsepower each were supposed to give the aircraft a never exceed speed of 130 miles per hour or 210 kilometers per hour but we never got to see this plane in the skies seems like this swedish startup was inspired by the jetsons cartoon how else could you explain their goal of creating a single seater designed for the broad market they even said we intend to make everyone a pilot and it seems like they're going to do it in a very short period of time for this goal they've created the jetson one an all-electric aircraft with a rigid aluminum space frame chassis and eight powerful motors connected to a lithium-ion battery even if one of the motors goes night night the others will be more than capable of maintaining the balance of the aircraft the first exclusive buyers are going to be taking their first units in 2022 and the jetson one is now taking orders for 2023 the aircraft has a total weight of 86 kilograms which is the equivalent of 190 pounds and it can support a 200 pound 95 kilogram adult the company claims that the aircraft could fly for about 20 minutes without needing a recharge and the top speed is about 63 miles per hour the same as 100 kilometers per hour if you're wondering about the controls we should tell you that it has a three axis joystick combined with a throttle lever the high-tech lidar sensors will allow the pilot to avoid obstacles with ease when inside the jetson one and yes it can even support some hand-offline crew 1 wingspan 17 feet 7 inches length 17 feet 3 inches empty weight 252 pounds gross weight 550 pounds built by earth star aircraft from the usa if the thunder gull had an id this is what it would say but for those of us who want to know more here's a detailed look this is an ultralight aircraft with a high wing configuration and it was introduced back in 1987. the plane could be purchased as a kit plane or if you don't want to spend hundreds of hours building your own then you can opt in for the completed version that's ready to fly as soon as it hits your doorstep when designing it mark bierly had this goal build an airplane with the feel of a hang glider the agility and visibility of a helicopter the effortless smooth flight of a sail plane and the utility and economy of a general aviation aircraft all in hopes of getting close to the feel and freedom of a bird the first name of this aircraft was the laughing goal which was introduced back in 1976 but marketing a laughing goal was really hard so they went with a different name thunder goal that's the single seater with a fuel capacity of about 5 gallons and a single rotax 227 engine that produces 28 horsepower connected to a wooden two bladed propeller this explains the max speed of 63 miles per hour or 101 kilometers per hour and the cruise speed of 55 miles per hour or 89 kilometers per hour the range on a full tank of gas is somewhere around 165 miles which is the same as 260 kilometers so far there have been numerous models built which only further speaks about its popularity this has got to be one of the most monumental planes on this list why because race stitch design genius and bob starr's skillful hands built the aircraft that not only claimed the title of the world's smallest aircraft back in 1952 but also managed to start off an entire chain reaction by flight enthusiasts and plane builders that also wanted to take home the record because we want to keep the story straight and in order we'll talk about the three smallest aircraft ever constructed in the world that all held the same record title just at different time periods now sky baby was a very small biplane with welded steel tubing and your usual aircraft fabric covering unlike most aircraft that had a firewall between the pilot and the engine for race tits and bob starr this was a luxury so what did they do they took the engine and placed it right in the pilot's lap flying this thing was no picnic since the rudder pedals were crammed near the oil sump still the plane can support a crew of one person while having a length of nine feet ten inches or three meters and a wingspan of 7 feet 2 inches 2.18 meters the empty weight of the small sky baby was only 452 pounds or 205 kilograms the gross weight was slightly higher at about 666 pounds or 302 kilograms this left plenty of room for the 5-gallon fuel tank and the 170-pound pilot believe us with these planes 170 pounds is an extravagance anywho the sa-2a designed by stitts was powered by a continental c85 four-cylinder engine that produced 112 horsepower this was quite powerful for a small plane and that explains the 190 knot 350 kilometer per hour max speed and a 143 knot 266 kilometer per hour cruise speed and speaking of flying on may 26 1952 pilot bob starr took the sky baby to the sky near palm springs california during the entire flight the pilot had to remain within the center of gravity and this is why only two pilots met the criteria for flying the sky baby of course before getting that record they performed 25 flight hours soon after the record came of its own accord then the aircraft was donated to the national air and space museum who then gave it to the eaa air venture museum in oshkosh wisconsin and now it's back at the stephen f udvar-hazy center of the national air and space museum but this record wouldn't last long because of stitt's ds-1 sky-bird they call it sky-bird and this is one of the planes that got to take home one of the rarest records in the world the world's smallest aircraft when don stitch was working on this home-built plane he only had one goal in mind to beat race tits in his record-breaking sa-2a sky baby since 1952 there was only one plane that held the title of the world's smallest airplane so amateur pilots and aircraft builders across the usa wanted to beat the record so he was working on this baby bird for about four years from 1980 until its first flight on august 25th 1984. stitz made his all-wood construction for the wings but for the fuselage he used welded tubing covered with fabric this ensured the aircraft would be really light once ready harold nemmer once a pilot for the united states navy was now flying the sky baby he made 34 flights that year before the plane took home the record now because this plane was beaten by the current smallest aircraft in the world the record was changed to world's smallest monoplane inside there can only be one pilot the overall length of the aircraft is 11 feet or 3.4 meters and had a wingspan of exactly six feet three inches or 1.91 meters the empty weight of the aircraft stood at 252 pounds while the gross weight couldn't exceed 425 pounds this means the pilot had to be very slim since he'd have to take into account the weight of the fuel to fly the ds-1 used a hearth two-cylinder engine that produced 55 horsepower just enough to take this little plane to the skies the max speed was 96 knots which is the equivalent of 180 kilometers per hour we already said this plane was not built for performance it was built for show so after setting the record baby bird was donated to the eaa air venture museum but this title wouldn't last long because since then we've had someone else after that title this is the smallest they come folks guinness said so in fact the star bumblebee 2 is only are you ready for this 8 feet 10 inches long about 2.7 meters but hey maybe the wingspan's a little longer huh nope from tip to tip this plane is about five feet six inches or 1.68 meters this means that if you're over six feet tall and spread out your arms you'll have a longer wingspan than this plane the crew come on you know there's barely any room for more than one person on board this plane as the empty weight stands at about 396 pounds or 180 kilograms the max takeoff weight is about 574 pounds or 260 kilograms this means that you have exactly 178 pounds to fill up the tank with three gallons of fuel and the rest will be for the pilot so if you wanted to fly this but you ate more than just one slice of pumpkin pie for the holidays then you better skip flying you can't even talk about range with this thing because you need to come down before you even get to reach the 14 000 foot 4300 meter service ceiling the max speed for an aircraft like this is only 165 knots or 305 kilometers per hour while the cruise speed is around 130 knots or 240 kilometers per hour this is possible thanks to the single continental cb5 four-cylinder air-cooled piston engine producing 85 horsepower but the star bumble b2 was never intended to be a power player from the very start it was built for one thing and one thing only to become the world's smallest aircraft the designer just like the name suggests was robert h starr and here's the funny part robert h starr built the bumblebee one didn't the record for smallest plane ever built because years later donald stutz took the record from him with the baby bird feeling like his life's work was for nothing robert got back in his garage and built an aircraft so small that no one could ever beat the record and to this day no one has been able to beat the record that star set back in 1988. fun fact before we go the yellow plane displayed at the prima air and space museum is the bumble bee one since bumblebee 2 got destroyed on its one and only flight on april 2nd so anyone wanting to beat the record will have to risk their life to do it bye for now [Music]
