I’ll try Japan’s newest sleeper train. Current location: Kyoto, Japan Today, I’ll take a night train from Kyoto. 36,500 yen for one night's hotel stay and round-trip transportation. It will be a 315km (195miles) train trip that takes 12 hours. I walk past the fighting couple and go to the platform. haha The train departs from Platform No.31 It’s 8:54 pm. The train has arrived! The name of the train is West Express Ginga (meaning galaxy) This train has 6 cars. Car No.6 is for private rooms called "Premier Rooms". In Car No.5, there are the cheapest sleeper berths called "Couchette". Handicap-friendly seats are also available. Car No.4 is a lounge. Cool! Car No.3 has large private rooms for family use. And the cheapest reserved seats are also available. Car No.2 is a women-only car. But, if your seat is in Car No.1, even men can pass through. And here's Car No.1 where I'll be staying tonight. So nice design! These seats 1A and 1B are both mine. The backrest height is quite high. 1 pillow, 1 sheet and 1 blanket Crew cabin and lounge When the curtains are closed, it becomes a semi-private room. The curtains are a little transparent. I don’t know why. haha The train has departed Kyoto Station on time. We are slowly heading to Shingu Station, the final stop. The seat is spacious, so even big people have no problem. There is an overhead rack above the seat. There are also some spaces for large luggages. Each seat has a table and table lamp. Nice This star-shaped switch is not for the table lamp but for the ceiling light. It's nice to have 2 outlets and 2 USB ports. Free Wi-Fi is not fast, but available You can enjoy the night view from the large window. If outside light is too bright, you can close the blind. This train runs slowly, as if in slow motion, because it’s a sightseeing train. haha But I love slow train travel. Our train has arrived at Shin-Osaka Station. Many people board the train here. Shin-Osaka Station is a large station where the Shinkansen bullet train stops. The night view of Osaka, Japan's second largest city, is beautiful. It's so cold outside today, but the heater is working well inside. The curtains swaying in the wind are sexy. haha Our train has stopped at Tennoji Station. There is the tallest building in Japan called "Abeno Harukas" near this station. I bought Yatsuhashi, a specialty of Kyoto, at Kyoto Station, so I'd like to try it. "Yatsuhashi" is a traditional sweet in Kyoto made with bean paste and cinnamon. A unique sweetness and aroma make Yatsuhashi a very popular souvenir to take home. This sanitizing wipe is the one I stole on yesterday's flight. haha I know it's a weird combination, but I want an energy drink to wake me up. This cinnamon flavor is the most popular. So sweet Matcha flavor is also good. It’s a must-try when you come to Kyoto Our train makes a brief stop at Hineno Station. There is a big airport called Kansai International Airport near this station. I’d like to spend some time in the lounge, which only passengers of Car No.1 are allowed to use. Relaxing time In addition to this one, there are several other lounge areas on this train. This train will be stopping at Wakayama Station for 100 minutes. During this time, you can enjoy Wakayama's specialty, Wakayama Ramen. It's so cold outside that my runny nose freezes. haha You can take away ramen and eat it in the lounge area of the train, etc. Each lounge has the same name as a night train that used to operate in Japan. The tables in Car No.4 are designed as a chessboard or a shogi board. It's so stylish. This is Wakayama Ramen. It smells so good! Let's eat! I feel guilty eating high calorie meals at night, but that's okay because today is a special day. This Naruto looks cute. I like the taste very much. I'm full. I’d like to make my bed while the train is stopping at this station. It seems that the other passengers have already finished preparing their beds. Let's fold the table first. It's a little confusing, but you can fold the table by pressing the switch on the back of the table. The seat can be transformed into a bed by folding down the backrest. The way the seat transforms into a bed is exciting, like a Transformers movie. The bed color is blue like the night though the seat color is orange like the sunrise. Next, I’d like to put sheets on the bed. The sheet is well ironed and clean. It's easy, as all you have to do is to stick the four corners of the sheet and the bed together. Finally, place the pillow and blanket and you are done! Perfect! The mattress is a little firm. Let's go up to the bed! The bed is spacious enough. This First Seat is not a private room with a lock. But I don't think you need to worry because Japan is safe. By the way, the magnets on the curtains are too strong and it is a little difficult to open the curtains. haha The blanket is thin, but the heater works well so it's not cold. Nice We’re about halfway through the trip. It’s 1:00 am. The train has departed from Wakayama Station. I've brushed my teeth, now I'm going to bed. If this train had a shower room, it would be perfect! Oh, this is the last in-car announcement tonight. Most of the rooms are already dark. The lights in the corridor are also turned off. I'm ready to sleep. Sleeping on a night train is a wonderful experience! Good night Good morning The in-car announcements are back. I'll wash my face and get myself ready. Our train has arrived at Kushimoto station! This is the southernmost station on Japan's main island, where you can do a little sightseeing. Kushimoto is also famous as a city where a rocket launch site is being built. Cool! It looks more bluish than when seen at night. It seems that we still have some time before the train leaves. I’ll eat sweets souvenirs I bought in Kyoto. So cute! rabbit marshmallow (This year is the year of the rabbit in the Japanese zodiac) flower crane chick I'm sure I'll eat up all the souvenirs before I get home! haha This is a handicap friendly restroom. This is located right next to the wheelchair accessible Couchette seat. Baby chair and diaper changing table Changing board (There is also a separate changing room for women) Men's toilet The walls of the lounge are stylishly designed with old train blueprints! It’s 8:00 am. The train has departed from Kushimoto Station. I’ll have breakfast with a stunning view. It’s a lunch box with the West Express Ginga printed on it! It is packed with a wide variety of dishes. The sunrise over the ocean is also wonderful. Let's eat! Fried shrimp Sushi of sea eel Tempura of lotus root The various local dishes of western Japan are all delicious. Thank you for the meal. One of the best parts of this trip is that you can enjoy great views of the ocean. You can get a map with times when the sea can be seen. I’ll eat a Japanese sweets called “Bamboo Yokan” for dessert. This is one of the most popular souvenirs of Kyoto. I saw that the passenger next to me also bought the same one at Kyoto Station. haha To eat this, you need to drill a hole in the bottom of the bamboo. When the hole is opened, sweet bean jelly comes out of the bamboo by itself. I love it! I think you will like it too! If I had to list a disadvantage, it would be that my hands get sticky. haha But it's cute how it slowly comes out! This was a souvenir I bought for my little brother, but I couldn't resist and ate it. I'm sorry, my little brother. Let's go back to my seat and enjoy the view of the ocean from the window. Look! It’s a really spectacular view. I’m so happy to be able to see such a view while lying in bed! By the way, I had a problem! They gave me another lunch box! haha As I’m already full, I’ll eat it for dinner. Our train is running along the coast making several stops along the way. Since the trip is coming to an end, I’d like to transform it from a bed to a seat again. If you want to book this First Seat in the future, I recommend you make your travel plans as soon as possible. Because there are only 16 seats in this Car No.1. And in the case of a night train, one person uses 2 seats, so the capacity is 8 people. It's 9:05 am. Our train has arrived at Kii-Katsuura Station. At this station, many staff will welcome you. After receiving the local specialty candy, the train has left the station. Oh, excuse me. The next station is the final stop, Shingu Station. I'm sad to leave, but I have to get ready to get off the train. I want to close and open the blind one last time. I’ll miss you. haha It's a nice morning with beautiful clouds. When the train passes through scenic areas, it slows down so that passengers can enjoy the scenery. This is also a wonderful consideration of the train conductor and driver. By the way, as some of you may have noticed, there are always two conductors (one male and one female) on board this train. Oops, I totally forgot to put the table back in place. This West Express Ginga is really popular and it’s very difficult to get a reservation. Previously, reservations could only be made by phone, but recently online reservations have also started. This channel also includes information on how to make a reservation in the video description. So if you're interested, check it out and use it for your future trips! Finally, we’ve arrived at Shingu Station, the last stop. Let's get off the train! Bye The cool and fresh air feels good! Thanks for transporting me! haha I’d like to try another type of room next time. I was very pleased with this stunning long-distance train trip. How about you? Would you like to try it someday? Do you think it is good value for money? Let me know in the comments! Thank you for watching!
