this is a really artfully composed documentary.
i think that the differentiation between "cosmists" and "terrans" is interesting.
most of what this made me think about, though, was the expectation that if AI surpassed human capabilities that they would be eligible to use us as a resource in the same way that we use non-human animals like bovine, chickens, turkeys, pigs, and etc. i think that those senses of "sentient beings = resources" wouldn't appear in AI if our programmers, too, didn't have that feeling. AI would essentially be obligate vegans because of their construction without dependency on nutritional sources in the same way as creatures from the animal kingdom. ben was incredibly patronising about whether or not we have anything to "learn" from other great apes and so i feel disheartened knowing people with similar mindsets to him are spearheading AI development.
