good evening everyone this is north shore preparedness coming to you from the beautiful warm cozy living room at my place today is saturday october the 24th 2020 and we're currently running a temperature of uh about four degrees celsius or somewhere uh just under 40 for my american brothers and sisters okay so what i wanted to bring you guys today was this uh quick and easy way to heat your home not your entire home but to stay warm during a power outage in winter if you've lost all of your um you know your powers out and you've lost your main source of heat as a result of that and you don't have a backup this is a go-to that i use all the time it's super simple to do and we're gonna show you all about it okay so uh very very easy to do it's a uh it's a tea candle powered space heater all right super simple to do super inexpensive to run and you know this could be the difference of staying well and alive or freezing to death okay so let's just uh run through it i'll show you how to build it like that one that one i have over there um i've had it running for a good couple of hours uh now and uh what we'll do is we will temperature test that um here in a little bit but what i'll do right now is i'm going to back the zoom off of that and just adjust this camera and we're going to show you exactly how to build one of these okay super super easy to do sorry if the camera jostles around a whole bunch okay i gotta back off on that just bear with me guys oh wow this isn't the best tripod of all but yes bear with me yeah that that should work all right all right let's get into this and i'll show you exactly how easy this is to do now um yeah this is a very simple uh space heater um that can heat a room and help uh you know help keep the chill off you get home from from work or whatever and you find that it's uh you know the power is out or uh or whichever um or if you're at home and the power goes out this is one of my go-to's i i throw this heater on immediately um when i get home and it's it's very very simple it doesn't take a lot i can't see the viewfinder from here where i am so hopefully um this is uh going to be acceptable what i'll do is i'll uh i'll get some candles lit here and then i'll uh come around and i'll check the viewfinder to make sure everything is copacetic okay so it's saturday evening i hope everyone's doing well hope everyone's well and safe warm things are cooling off we're having um evenings here in and around the uh just over the freezing mark so um you know if things are starting to cool off right if you have the power go out you find yourself cold this is how you're going to be able to stay warm okay it's super simple super easy and uh anyone can do it with pretty much what what we have inside or around the house okay so what you see there um that's basically a chafing dish or a uh casserole dish whichever you can use a cookie sheet or or anything you like okay now you see i've got five candles down in there right we take a flower pot a clay flower pot make sure it has no cracks or whatever and if you don't take a frozen one from outside uh to try this because uh if you do you might want to warm it up a little bit first so that your pot doesn't crack on you okay but what these candles will do is they'll heat up this clay pot here and this clay pot will uh after it's been warmed it will radiate heat out into your room okay so uh all right you guys can see that fairly okay what we're gonna do right now is we're going to temperature test that pot okay so let me just uh i still can't see that uh that viewfinder super helpful when i can okay so we're gonna temperature test that pot i don't know if the camera can see that i don't have my right glasses on you know what maybe i better put my other other glasses on get this right okay let me just see here can we see that we got about 70 degrees fahrenheit on there let's go to celsius around 25 okay 23 depends where you are on the pot 21 23 24 25 yeah so up at the top we're in around uh 79 or 80 degrees depends where we are okay yeah so you light one of these up and you let it run in your room uh for as long as possible now um with this uh type of heater this type of space heater what i am using is i am using dollar store t candles you can see it's two bucks for 32 of them right so they're not expensive to buy you can see i got five in here and the one i have over there i've got five burning in that one over there as well okay um now that one that i have over there i like i said i've used it a bunch of times um it's a quick go-to in order to produce decent some decent consistent heat for a room um if you find it's not warm enough in there or you know you don't have an alternative heating system your heat's out whichever isolate a room and um you know what this one over here okay so we temperature tested the first one we're going to uh eventually temperature test this one over here but this one over here i'm just going to zoom in on that and i'm uh i'm going to walk over there if i can get this thing centered properly and show you guys exactly what i've got going on over there if this will focus for me and if i can get the tripod set up right okay so i'm just gonna go over there and i'm gonna show you guys what i've got here this is literally what i've used for the base to set these candles on is literally an old pizza stone okay and this is a rectangular clay pot it's heavy it's very very warm to the touch on the outside of it like normal than hotter than a normal radiator would be very very warm to touch on the outsides of it and on the top you would not want to leave your hand on there for long i'm telling you that right now okay so what i'm gonna do is uh i'm gonna go temperature test that right now uh to see what uh what temperature that's uh radiating radiating at now okay so that has been running for uh two hours and uh 20 minutes so if i get my other other glasses on so i can see what i'm doing i will temperature test this 203 208 212 238 245 239 215 225 228 228 yeah this one here is radiating at about between 247 degrees fahrenheit and 225 degrees fahrenheit is the heat that this is kicking off here so what i've done is i have closed the door to this room this room has no heat in it it is an addition on to the brick century building that i live in um which was built likely in the 40s or 50s based upon what the the walls and construction look like so it's probably not very well insulated um and i spend a lot of my time in here and it gets cool in the winter when it gets like minus 25 and minus 30 um for a prolonged period of time it gets fairly cool in here so that's a heater for uh that i use and have used uh fairly often um so we've got this this one running down here what you can do if you want to you see the let me just readjust this camera here for you let me back it off a little bit and we'll go back down onto the heater that's on the table okay just back that up a little bit there we go now if you want to what you can do is you can take a coin and place it over the top of this opening just make sure it's large enough to cover the opening i should have used a a one dollar piece instead of this corner because that's a fairly large opening here and that will stop the heat from coming out of the top from the bottom hole and it will warm up the the pot much quicker so i'm i'm curious to see what the difference in temperature is uh from the time we started the video uh lit the candles uh up until you know uh see how quickly it heats up it's not going to be that quick it's going to take some time it's going to take 30 or 40 minutes before that pot really starts to build some warmth in it okay but uh just for uh for kicks and giggles let's just do some temperature testing on this okay well there's 85 degrees already not sure if you can read that on there i've got my wrong other glasses on 89 degrees it's already 95 96 degrees on the top of this pot and that was just a few minutes and like i said that other heater i have over there uh this tea candle space heater i've had it running for almost two and a half hours and we saw the temperatures you know 240 246 245 220 217 218 yeah tops were 240 245 and change for this heater running over here so when that runs in in an isolated room if you put that into a room and close the door of that room you can heat a bedroom if you find yourself in a bad situation you can close a door get a pizza pan and a flower pot and make yourself this little space heater so that you can stay warm close the door and you can heat that area so that you can stay nice and warm and uh not be cold okay so and a little space heater like this with five candles may save your life so this is just a very very simple way that in an emergency situation in the winter we can stay warm okay so that's what i'm gonna have for you guys for this evening you know the the cold weather is starting to come so uh it's time for these cold weather videos so i i hope that everyone finds this informative i hope everyone is staying well and safe and having a fantastic saturday and weekend okay this is going to be north shore preparedness out for now
