of course it is fast approaching the time that the managerial Mero round will get well into full swing in between we predict the end of the domestic season and the start of the Euros but Alex Kook top sports Chief football correspondent joins us now uh to talk about one guy who makes the news in that area but at this particular moment and he is gr Potter Alex good morning to you what can you tell us yeah good morning Jim I think the managerial mer go around is already in full swing to be honest when you look at Jurgen klopp leaving Liverpool we know that Anna slot is coming in there Julian ly on his way to West Ham to replace David Moyes I think we'll get a good sendoff actually from the West Ham fans this weekend and uh rightly so but gr and Potter really interesting the number of opportunities that he's had to come back into work since he left Chelsea after that ill- fated s at Stanford bridge but a number of opportunities that he's turned down ax being the latest of them we know that he's held several rounds of talks with the Dutch Giants he rejected them earlier on uh a month or so ago they managed to get him back to the negotiating table but once again Gran Potter has said no to that particular opportunity um I think the financial package that aax were offering didn't necessarily meet uh what Potter was looking for but you do get the sense also that he's saving himself maybe for something bigger and better in his eyes and you wonder could that be replacing Eric tenh har at Manchester United because he has a fantastic uh reputation with uh s Jim ratliffe he's got a relationship with Dan Ashworth who we know is coming in as the sporting director they work so well together at Brighton I think Potter is a genuine Contender if and when United decide to move on from ten hog can can you see Potter at Manchester United Simon if indeed ten hag Le I can see the links that um Alex is making I just can't see the reality of what Potter has done on a scale that would represent the opportunity of taking Manchester United and all that goes with it wherever Jim Radcliffe describes it as a project now and realizes that there's some intermediate short-term um and long-term Milestones I don't think Potter could cope with Chelsea and maybe some would say a lot of people couldn't cope with Chelsea I think he fell into a a mode of operating with a media that showed a lack of resilience and if the one thing you're going to need to have at Manchester United is resilience I don't think he's got the coaching credentials I don't think he's managed the scale of clubs so I'd be very surprised but you got like Alex makes a a compelling case given the links but you know Dan ashworth's relationship would you want to be putting your professional relationship on gram Potter going into arguably the most talked about Club in World football and saying I'll take the guy that couldn't cut it at Chelsea into Man United as my biggest appointment besides getting into the the mix of what players I'm going to buy well that's right I mean there's a message coming in Martin one of many now listening to Alex and Simon on GRE Porter surely failed at Chelsea in the end but apparently capable of managing the biggest Club in the plan the planet give your heads a wobble guys can you see him at Old Trafford well I'm just looking you know if we look at the manager Charisma leadership I'm just wondering about now going forward is that if you look at Manchester United and we don't really see any kind of brand of football we don't see a structure to be able to defend to press we don't see anywhere that they can build with the structure of their Midfield so you're looking at bringing in a coach that is going to be top level with with building and playing football you want a possession-based coach now if you look out there maybe someone like deserve who followed on from Potter could be in the mix as well so it's like you these are key decisions that Manchester unit have to make this summer um and I think Potter may be okay maybe been considered but um I'm just wondering it's the all round package isn't it in front of the media how do you lead the club how do you project um but definitely on the pitch gym is where they need to try and resolve their their issues and at the moment they're completely second best in every area on the pitch Alex you're a man united fan obviously living in the South you would be a man united fan I what what's what's your view of the Potter situation and give and being a man united manager my view is similar to yours Simon I have to say if if if you're asking me as a United fan and not as a journalist then Potter would not be my choice actually on the website talksport.com I've done a list of Runners and Riders if you like for the job and there aren't that many Elite managers out there I think GTH Southgate will come into the conversation for the same reasons that I've already alluded to because of his reputation with Dan Ashworth Thomas Tule I think ruined himself in the eyes of a lot of United fans with those changes that he made as Bayern crashed out the Champions League in midweek deserie gets a mention of the piece as well but he's not had a stellar season and I think at the moment maybe be a little bit tooo volatile for what United are looking for Hy flick has been in touch with United via his advisors did there well at Bayern Munich but didn't seem to handle the pressure there well when he got the German national team job I don't think there's an obvious answer Ruben Amarin maybe comes into the conversation but it's a gamble isn't it taking someone who's only really proved himself in Portugal If you look at Liverpool who arguably well not arguably actually it's a fact are in a much better shape than Manchester United are at this moment in time the fact they're taking a Gam on someone like Anna slot who isn't proven by any stretch of the imagination of the Premier League I think that shows you the quality of coaches AR out there if you asked me my dream ticket I'd go for Carlo angelotti but I don't think he's leaving Real Madrid anytime soon Jim White and Simon
