there is a lot to be said about no man's sky most people know about its rocky start back in 2016. there were a lot of promises made but very few were kept according to gamers and gaming outlets the gameplay loop got repetitive very fast and the variation in planets flora and fauna weren't up to expectations fast forward to 2021 after almost five years of updates and we have probably one of the best games i have ever played not gonna lie i wasn't playing this game from the very beginning but i had my eye on it ever since it was announced it was a good call though because apparently the game that was released was a shell of what it was supposed to be i actually downloaded it and started playing the game about three weeks ago and i'm about 40 plus hours in and i can say that i am in love with it the sheer amount of things that do in this game is incredible i'm not even going to attempt to list off everything you can do in this video so i'll just talk about some of my favorite things to do in no man's sky so base building first you need to find the perfect planet for your base then you need to learn the blueprints for the structures and finally you need to gather the resources to craft the structures you want to build i'm not going to lie my first base was kind of a show but after playing the game and learning what was important i eventually found a better location on my planet started building a totally new base one that was actually organized and scrapped my old base bases can be used for refining minerals storing all of your vehicles growing crops and tending to livestock exploring in no man's sky is like no other game i've ever played for those of you who don't know everything in no man's sky is procedurally generated which is a fancy term for random eyes every planet you land on will be unique in what kind of flora fauna and minerals it has the crazy thing is there's no loading screens when you leave a planet you actually fly off the planet when you want to visit another planet you fly and land to the planet this is important because it makes the game incredibly immersive like i said earlier i played 40 plus hours of this game and i'm still wowed by some of the stuff i come across the last thing i want to talk about is upgrading this is one of the things that keeps me coming back for more you start off with a basic ship and mining tool and over the course of the main quest line which is totally optional by the way you get blueprints for upgrades to your ship and mining tool some of these improved stats some of these are totally new abilities altogether any good installable technology requires materials that you can either buy or find in the wild i find myself constantly wanting to upgrade my stuff because i just want to see the quality of life improvements or just how cool i can make my mining tool for example i kidded one of my mining tools for mining and scanning and the other one i kid if you're pure combat so a quick summary of what i think the game does right it gives great instructions on what to do from the get-go the first couple hours of the game are basically a tutorial for how to gather resources refine minerals repair technology and and other basic stuff after that couple hours is over the game opens up and it gets pretty daunting but if you follow the main quest lines you'll be fine most blueprints can be unlocked for free via quest but if you don't want to do quests and just explore you can lock everything in the game with salvageable technology which is a grind but hey it's each their own oh yeah this game has no micro transactions and it also has four player multiplayer so can't really go wrong with that the game isn't perfect a lot of the issues are technical which i can understand the main issue i have with no man's sky is the ridiculous amount of popping it has i can kind of forgive this because it is procedurally generated but it still annoys me also i played this game both on pc and ps5 the pc version isn't super well optimized and the ps5 version crashes pretty frequently which is frustrating especially since the game only saves at certain points you can be in the middle of a task where you haven't been to your ship in a while your game mainly saves when you leave your ship and if your game crashes all that progress gone other than that i have no other complaints so yeah if you're on the fence about no man's sky i definitely recommend it it has helped me a ton in these last few weeks especially with this goddamn pandemic still going on so it allows well at least for me the perfect escape it's one of the few games i can sit down and play for four plus hours at a time and as of right now i have no plans on stopping anytime soon
