Should We Sell Our VAN? (we found our dream van and it's not what we expected)

thank you we could do it all over again would we today  we're here in Scottsdale at Westworld Leisure   Vans is hosting a super B show and we want to  answer a couple of questions with two years   under our belt and owning a couple of bee Vans  we want to take a good hard look today and see   would we purchase a Thor again do we like  our layout would we rather have something   else we just see things very differently with  all the time that we spent in our band oh you   guys know that we've had so many issues with  the current band that we have we currently   have a Thor telaro 20a and we want to kind of  compare it to what's here today and figure out   would we still choose the same layout that  we have what are the prices like right now   and so we're gonna head inside  and see what's here let's go thank you okay first up the Storyteller Overland you guys  know if you watched any of our other RV shows it's   Bob's number one favorite it's my worst one so  we're not gonna spend very much time on it we've   already shared with you guys how amazing this  van is I love it the Storyteller 2023 beast mode   4x4 one of the most amazing fans that I have ever  seen the 4x4 the rugged off-road look it's just a   really capable machine they have the MSRP listed  at 306 000 which is insane and it's on sale for   like I think 216. so it's just it's crazy but it  is a nice looking machine sorry guys I misspoke   the sale price is 218 000. boom crazy would you  buy it not for that price okay let's move on thank you so this is a new one this is the  Winnebago Adventure wagon not seen it before   very cool layout with all this l-track in the  bottom kind of a bed that's movable you can just   put it in different positions everything looks  like it can move around to change the layout   super cool you've got these like almost  cabinets that are flexible and movable   wow so everything is movable yes everything  the bed refrigerator the cabinets the extra   chair it's all movable wow because look at  all these tracks all the tracks up top all   the tracks down here I mean what is all this  so this is how you can move things around you   push this in and then you slide it out so the  whole construction is all based off of these pretty cool we've never seen this before  nope so obviously it's three chairs   yes three seats so you have the extra jump seat  which you could probably put another one or two   of them in here yeah there's your fridge your  fridge you have a little generator and stuff in   the back that's the generator yep okay and you got  a little seat I'm assuming your water is in here yeah so this this is where your water system is  at as well so it's all self-contained in here   nothing under the van apparently this  is your sink it's a little Rubbermaid cool there you go that didn't go as  smoothly as I was hoping but voila so there's no faucet no faucet but there's  one two three four five six storage units   yeah and then you have your  bed which looks pretty darn big bad it's not bad did we see the price so this one  has an MSRP of 170 but it's actually on sale for   130 and it is actually on the uh Mercedes 3500  chassis so and it is the dually so it's much   longer than the Revel or the Storyteller it's  the full-size Mercedes and it has the dually in   the back so you can carry a lot of weight  would we want this one so I do like this   chassis I don't like the dually in back as you  know if you have to when you get to the point   when you need to put new tires on You Gotta Buy  six and your spare so that's two extra tires we   also aren't planning to carry that much weight so  we don't necessarily need that capacity and with   this layout it just doesn't feel homey this  this is a true adventure wagon so if you're   going out you know skiing or mountain biking  or something like that perfect just not exactly   what we're looking for yeah that's your whole  entire battery system so I'm assuming you have   like solar on top that charges your battery bank  but just tempting tempting very nice quality but   unfortunately just not what we're looking for all right we are in the Integra  launch 4x4 I think it's a 19   19y and I have to say this is a really nice model  it is very similar to the Winnebago Revel the   seats are quite a bit different so they're like  they move separately of each other looks like   you could actually take them off if you wanted  the bathroom is here which you know it's nice I   mean it's a b van so you're always going to have  a small bathroom but you have your small kitchen   here I'm assuming it comes with an induction  cooktop but you have the Happy Jack bed and so   as you know with us and our height this would be  a challenge because well we're just so tall but   quality very nice very nice quality and  I do like this layout it's a nice layout   and it better be quality because they  have the MSRP listed at 251 thousand   and it's actually on sale for only 159 000  so it's like a hundred thousand dollars off   this is a bargain not really not really for  what would we do this one I like this one I   would put it kind of second to the Storyteller  but with this bed set up unfortunately no no   it's the layout is the issue quality yes quality  yes manufacturer yes price not really not even on   sale but the bed is the layout piece there's a  note okay let's go let's go find something else so this is the Winnebago Era and it is on the  3500 yes this is on the Mercedes 3500 chassis   it's a 170 wheelbase so it's nice and big should  have enough room for us and I haven't seen one   of these before so let's take a look well I  like this one with the extra seat right here   this would allow us to be able to have somebody  you know sit in the back kind of work while we're   driving you could have access to the table which  is right here it's Winnebago so I know that their   quality is pretty good I know that they have  issues with some of their stuff and you know   like everybody else but just in general like the  seat leather feels really nice the countertops   are good you know not the kind of the the cheap  kind of stick on fabric this is actually really   nice for Mica walls so I don't know looks pretty  good one thing that I think is pretty cool you   have the propane stove and it's integrated with  the sink so that's pretty cool wow I've seen   you've never seen that I have not seen this setup  I've seen some that I think Dometic has one but   it's actually quite small and so I've never been  really a big fan of it but this is a nice this   is a nice stove top I I have to say gives you  some some real room where you can actually cook   um it does have the powered bed I just I  always worry about the power bed it's a   huge concern of mine and thanks for all of your  guys's input because you know I'm not afraid of   this anymore I think that there's been enough  of you who have said hey this this is a really   nice thing and we should trust it and rely on  it and so I might consider something you know   like this so and then of course we have the  bathroom which for a van I don't even know if   you can actually get in oh hey here you go for a  van that's a pretty good sized bathroom not bad so it's Willie long and roomy yes just stand  straight up do you touch the ceiling no and   I even have a hat on and no I don't touch  the ceiling which is nice so like the bed   you could leave it fixed kitchen kind of  prep area is actually quite large bathroom   is decent sized and the extra chair  and look at these cool lights oh yeah nice they put buttons here to play with them  right no they make a good oh it's got a   fridge freezer combo wow so that's that's pretty  cool and of course you got your fire extinguisher   you can keep nice and cool it just feels so  nice oh oh I can put some miles on in this   thing I mean this is quality this is I like this  leather this leather is really really nice move   anyway I don't want to break it we know how Bob  gets in these RV shows no breaking anything Bob   okay okay let's go look at the price all right  let's take a look I'm not done actually at 148   000 that's not a bad price for something so  big it's the Mercedes chassis it's Winnebago   it's pretty nice not a not a bad deal not a great  deal but I like it okay is it just me or does this   one seem way bigger than our current one I think  this one is way too big for our needs because our   needs are it needs to fit in our driveway we like  the convenience of being able to get in and out   of uh regular parking spots and so for me I don't  think this was a would ever be an option hey it's   about I don't know 40 Grand more than we paid  maybe a little more and B I think it's way way   too long so it is longer than ours it's probably  about two two and a half feet longer than ours   so we would really struggle to get this in our  driveway and of course with the longer wheelbase   the parking spots would be more of a challenge and  you know all that but you know it's a little give   and take there yeah it's not really for us in  the season that we're in right now yeah foreign this next one is a Thor it's called The Dazzle  and it's a 20 J B I have no idea what any of   that means so let's give it to Bob this is a  Thor Dazzle just like Hillary said and there's   some really cool features with this one it's a  very similar layout to what we have it is on the   Ram ProMaster chassis it is the 2023 you know  upgraded chassis so it's got the nice console   that's been updated it has a better transmission  so those are definitely some thumbs up and a   couple differences from like our band this seat is  actually like rotated 90 degrees so your back is   to the window so it makes it for a little nicer  seat it allows you to use a lagoon Mount table   those are all definitely some improvements that I  like the other thing I noticed is like all of the   cabinets are kind of squared off and gives you you  a little more room in the cabinet but one thing I   would caution you is that these round hard corners  in a van you're gonna hit them so that would just   be you know aesthetically looks nice but beware  of that a couple other things they moved some of   the controls up here which I think is a great  Improvement uh we're always kind of opening   the door and laying on the ground trying to get  to everything does come with the BM Pro Master   setup so you've got all that the same and let me  let's flip around I'll show you the back here in   the you have a nice sink countertop the same stove  as we have you do have a different fridge it is   a little bigger I think one thing that I don't  like about this style of fridge is the handle in   the middle although it latches nice you actually  have to pull it with quite a bit of force to get   it to open because you just lose that leverage  when it's on the end but it is a nice fridge   uh shower toilet setup pretty much the exact same  thing that we have nothing too exciting there   now they went with the power bed in the back and  then you have this fixed table here which is fine   but then of course you always have the challenge  of what are you doing with this piece of wood   when you're making your bed I think it must sit  down here on the floor but it's not made oh it   probably it probably is part of the bed I would  assume that it is I don't I don't really know but   hmm seems kind of weak if anybody has this  one let us know yeah I'd be curious there is   a little extra storage here in the back so that's  always nice because you need lots of storage and   unfortunately this one has a pop top we're not  fans of pop tops just because we don't need it   and we've had one we've had it the bed's not  super comfortable it's great for kids yeah we   just never used it it wasn't something we  needed right right but but popped up but   it's an interesting layout I like it I'm curious  what the price is though oh yeah let's go check so 94 000 that's actually not too bad considering  we paid more than that okay so would we get rid   of ours and get this one or do we wish we would  have bought something like this before which I   don't think they had a Dazzle back then I could be  wrong let me know in the comments but I think this   is a newer model model so anyways I would not get  this one even though it is cheaper than the one we   bought currently truthfully like everybody tells  us with our current van you get what you pay for   and when it's that cheap you know I'm not gonna  throw anybody under the bus but I'm just gonna   say we definitely wouldn't take a chance and  do this one what do you think Bob so if this   is a starter van or your first van I think this  is actually a good buy it's a decent price you   can get into it it's got some nice features um  but for us I don't think we would do it there's   just some things that we some other things that  we like and are looking for but all in all it's   not a bad band just not for us okay and as far  as layout goes I guess I should say I actually   love the table back there with the seats you just  wouldn't be able to leave that fixed right because   usually we add a mattress to our bed because these  are not that comfortable and so that would be the   give and take because I love the idea of the  seating and the table in the middle oh it feels   so roomy but if you want it to stay fixed then  it wouldn't work so it just depends on your needs thank you wait what's going on it's got two beds sweet what no no I mean I guess you could  lay on it you'd curl up a little bit foreign oh that's so weird so look at this oh the  cushion when you just push it up against there   hits the safety latch oh and the window opens  okay wow I like that yeah agreed oh just gotta   use the others you are I'm a hot mess today  what can I say so I mean it's got a nice double   you know not double freezer refrigerator  a little tiny sink here's your bathroom   good sized bathroom that's an amazing size  bathroom all right Hillary do the bathroom   test I'll do the bathroom test step up so oh  but you have a little Skylight above you hi   there's a little Skylight I don't know you can't  really see through it but we're just bigger   than the average person though so but it is way  bigger than what we have so who am I to complain   so this is actually a slide out so that's your  whole slide you can see this little wood frame   right here is your slide so you're adding I'm  assuming it would come all the way back to here   so you're probably adding like three extra feet or  three by ten so and then it's cool open kitchen TV   it is a nice big and then look induction cooktop  we've got another little bed that's amazing   so tell me again Bob why we haven't done this one  why do we keep getting so attracted to bees when   this is so roomy oh yeah we needed to fit in our  driveway and we need it not to look like an RV   so this is the Vienna it says that it's a  renegade RV it's on the Mercedes chassis   I'm assuming it's a 3500 because it's the  dually and it is a big machine yeah let's   go see much bigger than what we've had let's see  how much it is this one must be free there's no   price on it we'll try and look it up and  put it up here on the screen right here thank you foreign I have found my dream van and before  you go wait wait wait wait wait what   I know that we've always said that we wouldn't do   two single beds but hear me out clearly this one  can make one bad but I really really like the   idea now oh two single beds because of being able  to just walk down the aisle open this up get my   clothes oh it just feels so much more convenient  than I ever knew that we needed and then also   right back here we may not fall out of this van  this bathroom okay so you know we have the Thor   tilaro 20a and it has a really small bathroom and  because we went from no bathroom to a bathroom we   didn't give it any thought we just thought we're  going to be so thankful to just have a bathroom   hindsight's 2020. we just didn't realize that it  is so small we're so tall Bob and I both are over   six feet and so it has been more of a challenge  to use so now I am really keen on the idea of   having the shower back here the toilet back here  it's so big it's you can put a shower curtain up   or does it I think the doors close or you  can just do a shower curtain I don't know   I have to say if I could do it all over  again I would do this one but I will say   our Thor was in our price range and I'm not  for sure if this one was at the time or even   is right now so we will check the price out  and see but just buy the first looks of it   I'm in love this is a Winnebago Travato and  it has so many upgrades that I've never seen   before and I believe it's a 2023 but look at  these windows like come on like nah convenience   okay I won't put it all the way down I'm not about  to wreck somebody else's gorgeous fan but you have   two little Windows two big Windows one two three  four big storages all the crows can go right here   these beds seem long enough I'll  take my shoes off because again   this is gonna belong to somebody one  day so I want to be very respectful but like super comfy I can do it and if you were  to I don't know okay just pretend that I'm   putting the TV this way there's a little latch  underneath again I don't want to mess it that's   not ours but you just lay down comfy got the TV  can jump on with cabinets I can get what I need   can you tell I love it I don't know I think  I think I've heard that you find the actual   RV that fits all your needs by the third one  and this would be our third one so I think I   found the one that meets all of our needs I'm  not for sure if Bob agrees because we know he   loves that Storyteller but if we're just talking  about practicality needs space look at this little   cute things that come down that you can put your  phone and your son and your glasses in at night I   would I don't think this is a big enough mattress  um I think I would probably put a Topper on it   still and just custom cut it there's plugs right  here there's look at there's a light right here   oh that's so cute light I don't know what those  go to oh more lights uh phone plugs right here   I'm just blown away right now and  because we all know that Bob is the cook   he can show you the kitchen so Hillary was correct  this is the Travato 59k so it has a generator so   what that means is it has a little bit smaller  inverter because it has a smaller battery bank   and which is fine and we've done we've had  issues with our batteries and so I don't   know I went from one extreme to the other we had  the generator then we went away from it maybe we   need to go back but what I like is you've  got your nice sink here nice little cover   I'm a fan of the propane stove if you do get the  L model it does come with an induction cooktop so   I'm kind of leaning towards this propane because  I like that a lot it's got all these nice little   you know baskets and storage I like the latches  on the Winnebago the release and you have the uh   convection you know microwave oven kind of combo  oh that's a good location and the Nova cool fridge   yep which this is the same one we had in our  what is this so this is uh for your hot water   so you can conserve hot water by just turning it  on and it'll heat up just a really small amount   of hot water so that you can use it you know  in the van and you can control the temperature   it does have this secondary like storage like  era not storage but the secondary table that   you can have right here with the Lagoon Mount  so you can you know Mount that here you can   also Mount that here on the corner of the the bed  the next thing that's really important is all of   your controls are right oh right up here nice  and convenient easy to get to I mean it's just   a really nice setup with everything up there and  the air conditioner is right above your head air   conditioner right here in the middle so it blows  down on you at night which we love and you still   have a fan so that you can exhaust you know like  while you're cooking I love it I see the price not bad I would do it I would do it too so this  is a really nice setup I really like this layout I   mean honestly it has everything we're looking for  love it yeah Okay so if we did it all over again   would we still buy our current tomorrow 28. no  well here's the deal we would have had to though   we didn't yes this is more money than what we  bought at the time what we purchased was in our   budget and met our needs yeah but now that we've  been able to kind of see a few more options and   use ours a lot more yeah our needs have kind of  changed a little bit again and so well I wouldn't   say that they've changed that's not the right  way to say it I think we've refined our needs   yeah I think we're just like understanding  more and more what it's like to live on the   road and what our actual needs are exactly and  we need space we certainly do we want our cake   and we want to eat it too that's right we want  to be them that we can park easy places we can   Boondock but we want space to where we can walk  around breathe not constantly hit ourselves which   we probably still will but true yeah I think to  answer that question had we had a bigger budget   for the first two Vans yeah then we would have  done it but that we had to get what was in our   budget and kind of you know that's what happened  I think I think to our tomorrow 20a like I know a   lot of people have issues like we have um I know  it's kind of a thing right now and like our views   in general we've heard from you that A's and  B's and C's all end up having issues and you   kind of have to get them all worked out I think  I mean I think we kind of got a lemon one too   yeah I don't know yeah I think that their every  band is going to have some problems yeah and you   got to work yeah every RV is going to have some  problems and you got to work that out I just think   the quality of the Winnebago the features and the  layout seem better seems better we haven't known   to Winnebago yeah I just wish we could give it  a try not yet but truthfully would we do this or   would we actually build one that's the question we  really need to be asking ourselves so stay tuned   for that yes because who knows who knows maybe we  should build one I wouldn't mind building one I   think it'd be a lot of fun yeah so oh so a so to  answer all the questions would we buy an RV again   for sure we love it we love it by a bee yes would  be by the layout we have we do actually love the   layout right it's just like Bob said our needs  have changed a little bit um but we're you know   obviously not doing anything today or probably in  the near future so we're gonna make that one work   until things change any other questions I  think that answers all the questions yeah so   I guess for us the Winnebago Travato 59k  would be our pick that's it I think that's   it okay all right until next time we'll  see you next Wednesday bye guys bye guys
