hello everybody my name is bill and i know stuff and what i know today is that key frames are the most powerful part of shot cut i am going to show you the basics help you get started walk you through a little bit and then let you run off and do your own thing i will also show you how to do some stuff with a lower third if you want and do some text but honestly after that first four ish maybe five minutes you're going to want to go and jump in and experiment on your own so let's get started let's go have some fun with shot cut and keyframes alrighty we're going to be talking about key frames and i have a couple of clips that i've already prepared for this demonstration and i'm going to go ahead and open that one up to start with let's pause that and we'll drag her down to the timeline now this has got more than i want to deal with right now i'm just going to cut it down to about 30 seconds there are no restrictions on time as far as keyframes go any any length of time i'm just going to do this make it easier to work with the video and see things what we're looking at is pina palace in portugal to demonstrate key frames which are very simple and very powerful i would like to zoom in on this and to do that we're going to use a filter which is what you'd normally use and it's the same thing with keyframes so let's go ahead and select the clip go to filters and i want to zoom in let's go ahead and do size position and rotate now if i zoom in let's see let's go about 200 percent i think that would be just fine and i think i like that now to start your keyframes if i click on keyframes there's you don't see anything going on however there is something here where we could start defining this but let's go ahead any of the filters that have keyframe attributes in them have this little stopwatch next to them for instance rotation does and then these top three position size and zoom all have keyframes and if you click on them it'll automatically drop that aspect down there into the keyframe tab and create your first keyframe point and you can think of these points kind of like action points i'm going to zoom that so we see the whole thing any place where this happened will initiate an action and it could be anything that the filter does in this case size position or rotate and we're gonna right now we're zoomed in at 200 percent i'm going to back up a few seconds and even though that's the where the action point initiated is there's nothing else there to define anything so it leaves the clip zoomed in so what you have to do is if you don't want it there you have to define another point so i'm moving a few seconds forward we're going to add a keyframe all you got to do is click on the little stopwatch there you'll put it right there red means it's the active one you're working with and let's go ahead and set this back to a hundred oops a hundred not a thousand there we go and this will affect everything before it and then once we hit that point the zoom happens to the next condition and that'll start between here and here and you can change this link so it takes longer to do you notice that spot zooms is taking longer to zoom and if you shorten it it'll it'll be quicker i think that looks good what i'd like to do is zoom in wait a few seconds zoom back out so let's go ahead position a couple seconds on and since we don't want it to start zooming out right away we need to add a keyframe do it right there and we're going to leave this at the same condition this one's at which is a 200 percent and then we'll move this out and have it start zooming out so we'll define another one and let's set it back to a hundred percent all right there we go zooms in sits for a couple seconds zooms right back out all right and when i look at the timeline i do not see anything obvious there other than when i select the clip i see the filter up there at the top but if you select the filter and select keyframe you'll see if any keyframes are being used at all all right now i have just explained the basics that you need for any key frame you have to define a point you have to set a point and you have to give it time to activate that is everything you need for keyframes now i will show you a couple other nifty effects that you can do and but any of the any of the filters that have these key frames you can experiment with and do your own so if this is all you watching the video please drop me a like think about subscribing because i could use all the friends i can get if you're sticking with me i'm going to show you how you can animate your lower third and then how to animate some text let's jump into that let's go ahead and go back to the timeline i want to add a video track and let's go back to the playlist i'm going to go ahead and grab what will be my lower third right now it looks quite large let's go ahead and drag it down we'll have to start at about five seconds and run for about five seconds and let's add a filter and if you've done any of my other videos especially with chroma key stuff in them you'll know we're going to grab the chroma key simple we're going to make sure we're we got the play head over there grab the little eyedropper hit the green part of the screen um i want a little bit less of it taken away maybe there i'll call that good all right so now if i play it i can see around it even though it's huge now let's go ahead and use that size position and rotate and size it down and i'm actually not going to do any zooming with this beyond what i do so this is going to set it up and there's a position right there but i do want to define what this is going to do and it's a second or so in let's go ahead and if i hit hit the keyframe right here throws it up i'm going to open this up so it's easier to see so that's the point where it comes in and i'm going to scroll almost to the edge of that clip because what i want to do is define another point and i'm going to actually move this off the screen right there and now when this runs comes in stops and then at the end of that i want to sit there for a second time enough for people to see it maybe say hey i should subscribe to this guy and then head off the screen so since i don't want it to head off immediately let's go ahead and define a position tab right there so it will take the same space so between here and here nothing changes and then we want to run it off the other side of the screen let's do that not quite at the end of that and i'm just going to run it over and if you want to make sure it's flat and even you just need to check these position places and make sure they line up all right now let's take a quick look at this and i'm actually going to go back to the timeline here and select down here oop about over here i don't want to see any of the boxes there comes in got time enough to read it zips right on off looks good now let's get a little bit fancy with this guy alrighty so we're on there let's go ahead and go go back to keyframes and you notice when i moved off of it i'm off you don't see the positioning right there so let's go ahead and go back to that so when it's flat and not moving what i would like for it to do is once it defines that i'm going to get a little wiggle going in this guy all right now i'm going to add another aspect so i've already got the position done with the keyframe i'm going to add another one when i click down there you see it adds another little tab right there and drops the point on there and what i want to do here is i'm going to give this a little bit of a wiggle now i'm already defined right here i have not defined my position so if i set it to say 5 you'll notice it'll turn and even though i go back here it'll stay turned so i'm going to go back to there and actually set a point and i'm going to set that one at zero so there we go so about half a second and then it goes and you'll see it can't just a little bit all right now i want to go back and forth so i'm going to pick another spot i'm going to define that i'm going to go from 5 to say negative 5. i want to swing back and forth i'm going to do that a couple of times and then i want it to flatten out again so i will set that at zero all right so now let's take a look at this whole thing comes in sits ooh it's got a little wiggle draw some attention zips off the screen all right there you have an animated lower third if you're trying to create a a finger that moves or a hand that moves or a bell that moves that's how you can do it simple easy to do all righty let's go ahead and go back to the timeline uh i'm going to go to about 15 seconds here and now let's do something with some text let's go ahead and open that text now they have some key frames that you can use with the regular text but i don't like simple text at all so i'm going to we'll drag this on here i'm going to set it for about five seconds and then i'm going to delete the simple text and add rich text and now i'm going to do the same thing not quite the same spot where my other one comes in and let's go there we're going to have go ahead and add a keyframe and that's the spot and then if i run it to the side just like i did the other one i'm going to run this up from the bottom though and set it there there you go runs in jumps in now let's go ahead and move this thing around a little bit let's go up to the top let's go over here over another second so this should be a fairly slow walk across the screen alrighty let's take a look at that there we go we've got a batch of effects running let's go ahead and take a look and see what this whole clip looks like oh i like it all right there you go all with filters using keyframes there's a bunch of tools that you have to go work with i would tell you to go experiment and see what you can come up with by combining some of these various keyframes and filters as always please i'll take a like anytime if you feel like subscribing i enjoy that even more y'all be good take care bye bye now
