She's In Her Apron Planner Review!

hi everybody today i'm taking a look at the she's in her apron planner this was recommended to me by many of you you mentioned you wanted me to take a look at this and so i ordered it and here we go she's in her apron is a youtube channel the youtuber's name is kimmy i have not really watched a lot of her stuff but i know that sam from happily a housewife is a huge fan her channel is focused on like homemaking she's the mom of kids that has many kids and this planner was a collaboration with a company called in the leafy tree tops now in the leafy tree tops is a company that does paper products that is very mormon based like they sell mormon products and so i am curious to see what here is if this feels that way or if this feels like something that somebody who is secular as like i am could be comfortable using it has a plastic ziplock pocket the paper is 80 pound premium super smooth the dates for this planner are september through december so it's a four-month planner the weekly calendar starts on a monday it is a kid proof quote-unquote five-mil laminated cover the planner itself is i believe 39 35.99 so it's pretty pricey for a planner that's not even a full year and then there's a current promotion where with the purchase you'll get a aprons on notepad for free which normally costs 7.99 it is the same 80 pound paper and has 30 sheets it also came with a pen loop like with an adhesive pen loop so let's take a look at it first with glance at this notepad the notepad has a to-do list today's date and place to circle the date a water tracker places to go people to see and what's for dinner this is aprons on which i'm pretty sure is one of her catchphrases this is a basic little pad the paper feels really nice i don't know if this is the kind of daily pad that i would wind up using the out of i don't think i'd pay eight bucks for it but as a gift with purchase it's not bad at all so here is the planner i got the floral cover there were three different cover options the cover is not interchangeable there is a regular really really hardy coil but it's very small which makes sense because it's a thin planner but adding stickers and stuff will quickly overwhelm this miniature coil the cover is a very glossy laminate i saw that some people are getting a matte cover because of a mix up with their one of their suppliers but that in the future all the the covers are going to be the glossy cover i really like the color scheme of the cover i like the flowers on it i'm not as big of a fan of this font it's very much like a bridesmaid font to me and i don't mind brush lettering fonts i just find these a little hard to read so i don't really prefer them in my planners and this is september december 2021 so on the inside we start with like a letter here's kitty's information mainly about her mantra of progress over perfection as well as her struggle with adhd and anxiety and so this planner was meant to be her answer to that and then a quick little note from the one of the people from the in the leafy treetops company that did the collaboration with her then we have a year to glance birthdays and anniversaries page just for september through october i'm gonna i don't want to sound like a jerk but i'm gonna kind of sound like a jerk here i really don't care for these choices it's a personal preference but between the font choices and the chevron it has a very hobby lobby look to me and that's not my aesthetic but i will say that's petty there's an apostrophe that shouldn't be there in birthdays but that happens we'll move on and then we have the zone cleaning which is a fly lady thing it doesn't say that it's his own lady thing here it just has the stuff and then when you scan this i tried scanning this when you scan this it takes you to a video explaining zone cleaning on the she's in her apron channel that does credit it to flylady but it does kind of bother me that this is like a flylady system and it's not uh attributed to her however as somebody who is trying to figure out how to clean my house i do appreciate this being in the planner because this is a pain to ride out and this goes much deeper than any list i've ever made it's very granular i may need to come back and reference this and then we have a master freezer inventory now one of the things i know about kimmy is that she uh follows kind of a i don't know if she's a prepper or if that's just sort of like the mindset when it comes to food but she very much has like a big back stock of food from what i understand in freezer and pantry and everything else that's not how i really do things although now that it's gonna we're in a place that snows maybe i'll change my mind i do love having a freezer inventory i think the reason that this seems a little over the top for me is because it is so big but if you have like a second freezer or something this could be really helpful it gives you space for food item and then um available or under an expiration i don't really understand why there's so many boxes here or maybe it's to like mark off how many you have that i'm not really sure about and then the unavailable and the available on top like i don't i'm gonna zoom you in so you can see what i'm talking about here if you understand kind of the methodology here let me know in the comments but like i said i'm not somebody who keeps a huge freezer backstock as a matter of fact we joke that if i put something in the freezer unless it's trader joe's mac and cheese or ice cream likely we'll never find it again so i would love an explanation of how this is supposed to work because i'm not really sure i get it but i do like that there's a lot of space here if you are somebody who keeps a big freezer inventory this could be very helpful and then we have a lined notepad a quote divider the divider is like a soft like the texture is soft and it's a card stock with the tab laminated the monthly calendar here is a sunday start no holidays whatsoever which i really like there's a big empty block here three skinny blocks here and another block here for some kinds of notes a notes column and then a nice big monthly spread and then we have a second monthly spread this one's a monday start and it gives you week one week two week three week four week five in separate situations and this would make to me an excellent meal planner like an excellent meal planner and then there's two lists down here on the side although it does kind of throw me off that there's two monthly calendars and one is a sunday start and one is a monday start but especially since i'm pretty sure the weekly planners are monday start yes just have them all be the same start that's and this is not just a dig on this planet this is a dig on like all planners that don't have the monthly and the weekly calendars have the same start like what the dude shop your shelves this gives you the same grid with like the available the unavailable and all the boxes like i don't again i still don't really understand that but it does give you a spot to check your freezer inventory your fridge inventory your pantry and your freezer meals and then there is meal planning and menu planning and meal ideas it gives you boxes for breakfast lunch dinner and side dishes and then a big shopping list i really love the meal planning stuff here i think this is a really thorough meal planner if you included this yeah then you have some more room for notes and it like says you should cut this off if you need to and then you go into your master to do lists you have two full lined lists on this side with a little space for a check box on either list and then four color each block has a color but there's no there's no like headers or anything so you can make this exactly what you want like this could be per person this could be per household like house versus work versus whatever i like that it's flexible but there's a lot of space and then we have the weekly spread which is vertical not lined then we have morning routine with room for six routines and an evening routine with room for six routines and then the whole like little checking off situation we have the cleaning zone area with some spots to check off focus spots to check off to do's and brain dump there's another apostrophe that doesn't need to be there expenses and then a meal planning situation here monday through sunday again i'm gonna get a little bit petty when it comes to design but i really am not caring for how close the numbers are to the font here the t and the two are touching the t and the two are touching here i'm not trying to be a butt nugget here like i really don't want to be a jerk about this because there's a lot that i'm really liking in this planner it just feels like when it comes to the final design they needed like a an editor or proofreader or like somebody just look over and catch these little things like that you know for a planner that's 36 bucks for four months it feels just a little bit sloppy in like the like the concept is great but the execution i think just needs a little bit of like for the next for the next printing of these planners i hope that they'll go through and just give it a little fine tooth comb to look for like stray apostrophes and things like that i like the color scheme though like it's not completely neutral but it is very like mild it's very muted and that's very much in my wheelhouse and then we have more notes pages at the back and then more list spots and then you go into the next month and the whole thing repeats and you get four months worth here and then when you get to the back you have a notes section it's a grid page here and then all of the rest of these pages are lined with like a different background pattern under the lines then once you get to the end of the planner you have that ziploc pocket and then you have the back planner cover and that's the entire planner now i'm going to tell you right now for all of my quibbles when it comes to the design elements of the planner the actual construction of the planner is really nice the coil is really sturdy the covers are really sturdy the paper feels really nice we'll pen test in a second the planner itself feels extremely well put together so for my pen testing i have a gel pen a pentel energel kalina gel pen a pit artist pen fine liner a tombow dual brush marker a mild liner highlighter and a zig clean color dot pen when it comes to writing on this paper it felt really nice like smooth and just buttery like it had that nice feeling you get when the paper you're writing on is just a really nice surface to write on as for the pen test both of the regular pens the gel pen and the fine liner no bleeding no shadowing really no ridging we have a little bit of shadowing on the edge of bleed through with the tombow the highlighter shadows a little the dot pen shadows a little bit more so the paper is not bleed proof but it is really nice to write on and the shadowing is really not that bad especially when it comes to the marker like the pens the pens don't shadow at all it's the markers that shadow a little bit but it's very nice paper i love the feel of it like it's it's it's very smooth and just nice overall it's like i said the construction is excellent the only quibble i have with the construction of the planner is the coil being a little small mainly because i use a lot of stickers if i was going to put anything in here that would very quickly like bulk this up but other than that though it's it's a great coil it's very very sturdy and the planner itself is just this does not feel like a planet it's going to fall apart even if you throw throw it in your bag which for a skinny planner like this is actually a very real possibility for a lot of the time but like i said there's just a few things that feel a little unfinished in this planner mostly having to do with the editing of like the grammar the words the apostrophes and then like even taking my personal design choices like my design aesthetic out of it just having things like having like this could be fixed by either changing the font or having the fonts be just slightly smaller to give them a little bit more room it just feels a little cramped up there so those are just those again they're quibbles but they for a planner that costs this much for this few months i'd like to see a little bit more care taken with that in another one i will be honest with you this is a little more than i need in a planner i can see how somebody with like adhd could really use something like this what i would love is if she did a meal planner the same construction same paper same coil same everything but 12 months with all of the meal planning things and this with all the meal planning things maybe some of the to-do lists and this week this particular monthly spread i would buy the out of a meal planner like that especially if it explained how to use those freezer lists uh because i think that for me at least the meal planning elements of this planner are outstandingly strong so there is that anyway i'd love to hear your thoughts on this i'm curious to see what you think i may wind up giving this away but for now i'm i'm not scheduling any giveaways just yet because i'm still so overwhelmed with everything i probably should just give this to somebody in my real life i'm not sure yet but anyway i'd love to hear your thoughts on this planner and any other planners you'd like me
