Shakey’s Pizza Next To Disneyland - Southern California Food Review / Reopening of Disney Discussion

welcome everyone out of the whoo here today number 40 of this current series on Southern California eateries today's particular establishment started up in Sacramento in 1954 but has branched out all over the state and there is one just down the road on Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim next to a place that I want to talk a little bit about today I'm inviting you to join me show you and since its end rideable proximity going to take the backpack load this stuff up and head out if whenever possible if I can do pedal-powered for this series that's what I'm choosing to do above me is the 5 freeway it was quite a bit of traffic running parallel to me as well you got northbound directly above my head southbound I'm now approaching but I'm going underneath these roads to the destination [Music] it was noisy under there obviously if so if a spot is more than a few miles that's a get enough get my car crews up there but you know if it's less than that grab the bike and go approaching Anaheim Boulevard it's interesting there's a 7-eleven here and then the next city block up there is another 7-eleven this one likes to play classical music at loud volume for one reason or another quite figured out why this one does and the other one just up here does not play any music the only date we have heard for the West Coast Disney parks is July 17th even though it is not completely official that is when they are saying that they're doing a a lot of work here on the sign of just getting ready and there's the other here on harbor I've been checking some of these hotels motels that are along here and a lot of them are slated for later in July some of them the 23rd some of them the 26th no specifics but before August they will all be quite operational a week or so ago I delved into the subject matter a little bit but it is it is a topic there's a little overview of where I am I'm gonna show up here there were some workers that were placing these they have moved the walk of fame the Anaheim Walk of Fame from the front of the main entrance to Disneyland and they are now up somebody has removed that one even though it's not completed someone is getting a little peak there and Walt Disney his star will be one of these when they're finished it's good news they've also been running that is a Pixar Pier bus hey I gotta get moving again get my balance they've been using those for some of the transporting some of those in the city around this is exciting that they did not completely remove them from they were implanted in the sidewalk and now they're very decorative here along these palm trees there goes no monorail on that beam for now but soon in a few weeks the rideshare vehicle spots are here usually packed with folks are a few vehicles however I wonder why possibly cast members being dropped off or yeah that's interesting many a times have I been gotten out of a rideshare vehicle there and walked just think shorter matter of tort matter of time will be going right through that gate once again I just really want to see that monorail going again even if I can't board it I just want to see it going I feel tie in to to what I want to where I'm heading our buffets just over this hill is where I'm heading and I've been here a multitude of times probably 50 or more times over the span of me either living in this area or visiting this area but I have never gotten take out and never ordered off the menu only their lunch buffet which currently is not happening so it's going to be kind of a new experience for me at the spot you can kind of tell where the freeway goes over the road that's where I went under it way off in the distance over there and now I'm going over that same freeway by the way that's the Matterhorn there it is Shakey's Pizza or just Shakey's the signage doesn't say State Pizza but that's what they're known for as well as a plethora of other items on a sidenote it is directly across from as you can see the Orange County buses going by directly across the street from the cast parking right now it's not accessible I went another block down just to show some of these old motel signage look at that thing the Anaheim tropic motel be pretty cool to stay at some of these places in the future the frontier I like that's got a cowboy riding this horse when I had Large Marge I considered parking my RV I never did but I heavily considered it doing so it's just so close to the park like half a mile oh they have a $8.99 bunch of lunch box that might be my go to my friend Jay and I this is this is kind of one of our spots I've been friends with them for years and on countless occasions him and I have gotten the lunch buffet it has a specific name but I'm drawing it as many times as I've consumed it you think I would remember what they refer to their lunch buffet as but we'll go rope drop at the park at 8:00 a.m. leave by 11:00 that's that's usually when they open their doors during these times their flex powers might fluctuate and then we would get the buffet and be back home by noon 1:00 at the latest a pretty good day I'm gonna mix it up today and get some takeout got the bike all ready to go kind of mounted it there locked it up going in there he is shaky himself right there in that picture frame [Music] [Music] should have requested they double badness hold strong bag hold strong we're almost there another couple more blocks you can do it plastic bag you can do it definitely have to swing back by here once these have been completely unveiled few hundred more yards just past this next intersection which is Katella and Harbour now I could have eight endorse they had dining inside but I like the ambiance over here it's kind of quickly becoming one of my slow spots here my peaceful eating spots I'll never look at this place the same way just like the way I look at it now is it the same way used to the crowds of conventions but once the once all those get back under way I'm gonna remember it like this I'm looking at it in two facets [Music] it's an interesting sound that bird is making already noticing a lot more activity out here there's a security on a Segway back there by the fountain and then another one was walking by didn't seem to mind me but in the past I've been pretty much the only one out here that's slowly starting to change I went with two beverages I got the water and I got Hep C the meal total would have been under $10 but it came to about 14 dollars and some change with the to the two you know the water and the soda but carrying a you know tap water or a filtered water in a cup even though it would have been a little less expensive with a bit more difficult to to put in the bag I could bring some I could bring waters from a home but I feel like it kind of defeats the purpose of going to the place and getting something from their menu very sorry there's a lot of bird and this is what we're dealing with the unveiling got the ranch dressing which you know spoiler alert a salad on top up here and see the see-through container top well actually I could just probably pop it open some croutons down in there some Tomatoes some onions some peppers that is a there's a nice healthy looking salad oh my gosh that is a lot of food right there two pieces of chicken the potatoes the I think they're called mojo potatoes I got a lot of broccoli steamed broccoli and I kept I kept saying is that all I get no you get more and the side note they dished it out for me I did not dish it out myself but they did have the buffet they did have the buffet arrangement set up so you could eat in if you so choose mashed potatoes that's I'm gonna this is a lot of food offer ten dollars fourteen with the two beverages so not too bad if I would eat in it would have been as much as I could eat which wouldn't be more than this well I could but then I'd be feel uncomfortable opting to save the salad for last just to cleanse the palate a little bit lighten up the meal I'm also drinking the water before the soda pop some call it soda some call it pop some call it a coca-cola even though it's not always a coke even though it is the Pepsi it just depends on I caught some of some of the soda pop which makes me think of Mike Tyson's punch-out soda pop Pinsky oh yeah thing that's great about Shakey's you don't get just get chicken you get chicken you get all the sides you get salad forgot napkins it's pretty much par for the course now what I do with the potatoes what I like to do is dip them in the patek mashed potatoes and the gravy so I kind of just don't get in there that's what's happening right there mmm it has been a moment or two since I've had these they're good they're fresh sometimes when you go to the buffet they've been seated sitting under the heat lamp for almost it seems like a little too long doesn't happen every time I say maybe one out of ten times you get one that's a little too crunchy and a little too overcooked these are these are not at all they're they're just right I nearly forgot to show the main main menu item the PISA there's two pieces of pizza down in there there was a substantial part of my life that I would never have been able to eat a piece of pizza pie and a water at the same time it would always have to have that Cola that soda flowing through my veins while I snacked on some pepperoni pepper oh the pepper almost looks like a heart can you see that maybe kind of sorta maybe not maybe maybe it's in my mind pretty standard when it comes to pizza almost has a little bit more kick to it so then one might be used to it's got a little bit of a little bit of a jolt might be the sauce maybe the sauce is a little different spice element so much has progressed in the last week stripping just a little bit so much has progressed when it comes to theme park news Disney theme park news in particular Disneyland which is just right next door has announced that they are open on July 17th I stated this about a week or so ago gave you my thoughts on the subject that they have kind of escalated because Walt Disney World has now announced and started to push forward their reservation system a couple days ago anyone that had a Resort reservation for the East Coast Florida counterpart of the Disney parks could have booked a reservation I've been seeing people posting that they ended up getting a reservation for the first day which I believe is July 11th which would be six days prior to out here I have an annual pass holder I am a coast to coast pass holder which means before all of this has taken place 365 days a year 366 if it's a leap year I could go either to those parks out there or these parks here a total of six theme parks and to water parks I think I could even golf which I've never golfed in Disney hmm that's good first instinct is that it needs a little cheese and melted cheese on it Barlow broccoli I heard more than one occasion from different people the broccoli uncooked has as much vitamin C as an orange I like to toss that little a little factor am i don't have never even confirmed if it's true or not had a conundrum of source because I am allowed if I were to go out to Florida and could get a reservation to go and I'm paying for it should I miss the opportunity should I skip the opportunity miss the opportunity I thought an animal was crawling over there it's just a shadow right there out of my peripheral vision I saw the leaf blowing in the wind the shadow of the leaf blowing in the wind how was it an animal over time over the over gosh the last few months it's been an ever-changing abs and flows of what I consider to be I don't say facts cuz no one really knows 100% but you know opinions that are tossed around what I would kind of embrace and shun so it's like what do I really want to do and I don't really don't know I would love to go to July 17th could be the 65th anniversary here I would love to go to that if big huge if probably not going to happen but it's kind of being tossed around in the noggin if I were to go to Florida prior to the 11th opening of Magic Kingdom Anke get a reservation for that day and the following days be nice to go to Epcot would be nice to go to Hollywood studios and I feel like the parks I feel like the theme parks of Disney especially any others are ready for visitors is the public ready for that I don't know I'll go shopping sometimes at Walmart or Target CVS Walgreens any of the other spots and sometimes I feel like that is almost as it it's all I feel different going in there and almost on the same level as if I was to go to a theme park now I cannot say 100% because I haven't been to a theme park but sometimes when I am in some of these other shopping establishments and the crowds are around you I think how is this any different than a park opening but I don't know until I go or till I try to go or if I even consider going it's a lot there's a lot to weigh in whether it's something that I do or you do or any of us are into opposed to it's happening things are things are opening and there knock on wood most likely going to stay open remember a couple months ago we were all home some of us are still home but the majority are going out getting food going shopping getting necessities in it's kind of peppering in non necessities getting the the health of our brain back out again which is another aspect to this these are all just thoughts I'm just kind of thinking out loud here's what I'm gonna do coming up on the 26 ApS for those who are not you know into the community of theme parks someone says I'm an AP third annual pass holder I am going to attempt to make a reservation for Florida on the 11th and then I will also attempt a try to go when they open Epcot on the 15th possibly the 16th for Hollywood studios that will at least get the wheels in motion or what I'm thinking about doing take this with a grain of salt it might not happen I might not either either get the reservation and I might even have them and then although I gotta watch this down I might even have that one and then cancel it immediately cancel because it might like you might hit my thoughts that how am I gonna do this but it's it's good to have it so that's what I'm gonna do and you can cancel what I've heard you can you can book it and then you can cancel it up to a day or two before you go so if I read a little bit more information now I have studied a little bit a moderate level just kind of the tip of the iceberg on the facts when it comes to if I were to drive out there if big if and if I were to get on a plane and fly from LAX or John Wayne closer lax has direct flight starting first of July I believe up until all of this month that we're no direct flight from LAX to Atlanta if I were to do that I have researched a little bit you know moderate research that you can immediately get off a plane and there are no regulations as of right now that you have to you know go indoors hang out by yourselves for a week or two weeks 14 days does not does not apply and if there are if there's a rule set in place that I have to do that then I will not go out there at all I will not do that at all will not break those rules however if it is not frowned upon and completely acceptable I'm gonna I'm gonna consider the idea about going out there flying back on the 16th and if I can get a reservation here on the 17th doing both coast-to-coast openings as of this moment recording this I think I could do it just a document do I want to get on a plane not really I'd rather Drive but if I were to drive well there's a lot going on here I got the mashed potato stuck on the bottom of this broccoli no cheese on top there isn't if I were to fly I could get both back and forth if I were to drive I would just only get out there for the Disney world opening pad would have to just not do Disneyland which would work too it's a lot to consider I'm not holding myself to any of this at all I just want to look I don't wanna let you know what I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and close this up and have some leftovers for a little later cuz that's all I still got the salad to go so I'm gonna finish off the salad and this is gonna be a go home I could put that in my I think I could properly put that in the in the backpack maybe another item to add to the equation on these what if if scenarios normally when I go to Florida I stay with my mom and dad that would not be happening if if I go out there I would get a motel or a hotel right near the parks because I would be around way more people I think that would just make more sense fly in get a hotel visit the parks on my own accord wearing the proper items that are required keeping away to proper feet marking so I would be there by myself okay I think I've lathered this enough precautions are are a hot topic right now I myself obviously have been going out for this is day 40 been going out to restaurants to diners to establishments people around preparing the meals handling stuff granted they do have the you know the proper the proper things on to do so but I I for myself feel pretty comfortable being out but I don't want to do anything to make someone else feel uncomfortable or to take a rule and shun the rule or be sub a very stubborn person and this gosh goodness gracious this the last few months have taught me that my stubbornness isn't necessarily important to me if the way the world works or going to my stubbornness should not be pushed on to others and it's this has taught me a lot I just I just do my part try to make others at ease try to make myself at ease into places that I haven't been a long time that I thoroughly enjoy I have to make some moderations so be it and before for right now this is a good deal for all this croutons I'm taking that Pepsi taking that Pepsi back home too and put it in my my backpack as well you know really a : salad 2020 we're halfway through we're only half wait they're only halfway through this year other curveballs are gonna be thrown our way I might look back at this episode and thank wow I didn't do anything that I was thinking about doing that's the way my mind works anyone that knows me asked anyone that is a friend of mine a family member of mine no one has any clue what I'm going to do including myself in fact most prominently myself I changed my mind every five seconds it happens a lot but usually when I am thinking and expressing something in a video I'm leaning heavily towards that it's not uncommon for me to just move on a whim sell stuff buy a different type of travel vehicle hit the road I don't see my doing so myself doing that I'm gonna be sticking around these parts for quite some time no plans on moving I love it here Orange County California would be here for a while unless some unbeknownst circumstances come my way I will travel I will still do things but love the weather here that's the number one on why I live here why I don't move back to Florida the weather number 1 100% the weather I do not like summers in Florida it probably about eight months out of the year in Florida I did not too fond of I have family there I have a lot of friends there and I have 20 years of memories of living there but this is nice that's gonna do it for today if you're new
