[Music] you're on your way to spain and you have heard all of the amazing things that you can see in andalusia but you're not sure how much you can see how long it takes you to see them can you see them all well we are here to help you answer those questions we just spent a month in andalucia seeing seville granada cordoba and rhonda and we are going to help you figure out how to best set off on your adventure in an attempt not to bore you or overwhelm you with too much information we've decided to give you five must-knows one mistake and one takeaway for each of these four locations we've picked these four locations because they are some of andalusia's most desirable places to visit cordoba seville and granada are part of andalusia's golden triangle we've included ronda on our list because it's one of our favorite places and we think it should be on your list as well you probably know it as that town with the big bridge but as you'll see it's so much more than that [Music] five must-knows about seville seville is a fairly large city with a lot that you can do and see it has a great mix of history and modernity from old palaces and cathedrals to more modern buildings and great public transportation out of all the cities we'll discuss seville has the most american style stores and restaurants but it still maintains some great authentic spanish cuisine architecture and shopping seville's major landmarks that you will not want to miss include the plaza de espana this is our highlight for us on our trip to seville not only because our son is a huge star wars fan and this served as a set for the phantom menace but mostly because of its grandness of the building and space the stunning and unique tile art the lovely bridges over the waterway and the spanish music and flamenco dancing that occurs for all to enjoy the real alcazar of seville is a royal palace built for the christian king peter of castile on the site of an avid muslim alcazar or residential fortress we made the mistake of booking this on the wrong day and so didn't end up having a chance to see it be sure to double check the day you're booking and that you book well in advance as it can get sold out from the pictures it reminded us of nasford palace that can be toured in grenada's alhambra which we will talk more about later cathedral of seville and heralda tower this unesco site is a roman catholic church that is the fourth largest cathedral in the world and the largest gothic church in the world outside of the cathedral is quite wondrous to behold it's very intricate and detailed inside has spaces that will have you in awe but sadly after seeing so many world-renowned cathedrals in the past month some of the wonder has been lost on us if you want to take in the geralda tower that is part of the cathedral know that it's a long ascent to the top but thankfully it's mostly a ramp instead of stairs making a little easier it does end with a flight of stairs so it's not entirely accessible [Music] the german architect jurgen maher completed this large wooden structure in april 2011 to resemble six parasols in the form of mushrooms the underground level houses a museum for the roman and moorish remains that were discovered on site street level is the central market the roof of level one is the surface of the open air public plaza shaded by the wooden paracels above and designed for public events seville is full of green spaces what we've noticed about spain is that many of its cities and towns love to maintain gorgeous green spaces and seville has embraced this as well there are a number of parks that you can enjoy for a picnic a walk or to grab some shade not only are they full of beautiful greenery but also an abundance of colorful flowers this leads to the next must know seville is very walkable they line the streets with trees that offer much needed shade and it's a fairly level and leisure city unlike many that we will talk about later lastly it can be very hot if you plan to come in the late spring to early fall then expect some hot weather we went in early may and it was 35 degrees celsius or 95 fahrenheit and the summer months are known to get well over 40 degrees or 104 fahrenheit and it can feel like a lot when you are walking around bring sunscreen and water bottles to refill it the fountains that you can find in the parks and plan for stops in the shade for reprieve from the sun one mistake see seville first now this is definitely based on our own preferences but we wanted to say it just in case you felt similarly we saw seville after seeing all of the other historic cities and we wish that we had seen it first because while it holds many amazing qualities a lot of the historic spaces felt similar to the ones that we had already seen aside from the plaza the cathedral and the alcazar seemed like things that we had already seen because of that we felt a little bit of travel burnout i think we would have preferred to see seville first because it's bigger for getting around and so you have more energy when you start your travel as well as um being able to see some of these historic sites that are really quite beautiful on their own but then after that going to the other cities and they just keep getting better my favorite being the moss cathedral but we'll talk about that later our mistake felt like it was seeing seville last i think it just would have been better for us as people who love smaller cities anyways so seeing the big city first having more energy and enjoying the historic sites there before moving on to the others our takeaway give yourself two to three days in seville we only spent one day in seville which is really enough time to see the plaza the cathedral and the alcazar with no time to see all the shops and all the parks and any other cool spots that you might find seville like the setas decibel [Music] five must knows about cordoba moving on to coroba which would be the next logical city to see on your road trip one cordoba is an incredible city that you could get wonderfully lost in as you wind through the streets we spent a full day there and felt that we got a really good feel for the city but still missed out on so much we could have easily gone back because we loved it so much two days would be a good amount of time to spend in cordoba exploring the historic streets and the grand old buildings cordoba has so many amazing places to see that i can't add them all here but these are some of the major highlights for us the moss cathedral this was our highlight and the number one place you have to go to we've been to so many cathedrals from notre dame before the fire to mount mantra to the sagretta to familia and so many more they are all epic and the moss cathedral deserves to be amongst them as one of the best cathedrals to see them seemingly endless archways are a wonder to behold and the cathedral in the middle has so many details in one space that you could sit for hours and still miss out on some of them roman bridge and tower entering the city from over the roman bridge is a fun way to experience history this bridge was once the only way to access cordoba's historic town and with its tower at one end really helps you feel like you're leaving the modern city behind and entering history speaking of history the old town wandering the streets of the old town is a wonderful way to get lost these streets are certainly not straight but you will find that you are walking them to have a good time instead of to make a good time not only are they lined with whitewashed buildings and colorful flower pots and windows but they bring you on a journey through shops restaurants garden terraces and other smaller historic gems alcazar of the christian monarchs we sadly miss seeing this beauty but i hope that you have a chance to take it in the grounds are lined with gardens courtyards and reflected pools and houses a fortress built for the christian royals similar to seville we did not take enough time to see cordoba you'll see this as a theme as we continue to talk we really should have stayed overnight to be able to enjoy more of cordoba with one day we did get to have a leisure pace around the city and get to enjoy a fair amount of things but we do feel like we've missed out on a lot and we probably could have just honestly stayed in cordoba forever but even just having another day to enjoy i don't know the beautifulness of that small historic space would have been excellent so if you can spare two days for a quarterback our takeaway cordoba is a very leisure city there's so much to see and it's all in the same general area it means that you can spend less time walking and more time enjoying and slowing down and taking it all in at a nice leisurely pace so when you're traveling and it tends to feel like you're in a rush all the time to get from one place to the next cordoba is a great space to slow down and enjoy [Music] five must knows about granada number one granada is much bigger than we expected during this video you will find out that we have the toxic trait of thinking we can see a lot more in a day than we actually can it's a theme we've begun to notice and are working on changing granada was the worst of them all because it is like seeing two towns in one granada has the main portion of the city that uh has many sites to see and it has alhambra which is the historic city on the hill that took us by surprise more on that later this brings us to point number two you need two to three days to see it all alhambra alone can take you a full day seeing the sights in granada proper can also take a full day or more we did a video on this time-consuming and exhausting mistakes we made in alhambra and granada so that you don't have to make the same mistakes that we did check them out in the link in our description to watch later number three here are the four must-sees number one is alhambra this is the number one must-see of granada it is a city of its own and holds large gardens courtyards a cathedral ancient ruins fortress and palaces here are a few details about alhambra but please watch our video to get a fuller picture of what you need to know so pay extra to see nasrid palace this is the most spectacular palace i've seen it's arabic architecture art and design is incredible and our favorite part of alhambra this building takes the most time to go through if you can start at the gerulife gardens and palace so that you don't need to backtrack on your way throughout the city this space is about wandering and enjoying at a slow pace so put on your walk-in shoes bring a water bottle and a few snacks the second must-see place in granada is elbathen it is an area made up of narrow winding streets that host many arabic inspired shops and restaurants it makes you feel like that you've entered an arabic souk it's a wonderful place to explore have arabic tea and treats and eat moroccan cuisine you also must see the cathedral of granada it's a 16th century cathedral built in the center of the muslim medina after the christian acquisition of the nasrid kingdom if you are without children well in granada another must see is the hamam al-andalus a sleek thermal spa with ornate bathing areas plus massages with essential oils and hot stone beds and here's finally a quick list of other notable places to check out basilica de san juan de dios the albanillo meredor the sun nicolas monasterio the sun geronimo and carrera point number four walkability granada has some commanding views because of the hills hills plural that it sits on making it also a very exhausting city to walk around number five renata is notorious for its lack of parking start trying to find your parking early on and try to find a place as close to your area of interest as you can look for parking lower down or at the official parking for alhambra don't expect to find free parking unless you want it to be climbing up and down hills all day like we did mistake number one be careful what restaurant you pick we do highly recommend that you go to the avathon area to be able to find a restaurant to eat at it is quite unique in comparison to a lot of the places that we've been to in spain and it hosts a ton of arabic restaurants it seems to be mostly moroccan cuisine we did go to a restaurant that we don't recommend i'll put the name of it below here because i don't really know how to say it very well but we didn't have a great experience there it felt really run down and we had an experience that suggested that it really wasn't the cleanest place so we don't suggest this place but we do suggest that you go take a look for some other places that are there there are so many restaurants that you can pick from just be careful and another tip is bring cash because we actually ended up having to pay cash and we did not have it on us so we had to rent an atm our takeaway you need more than a day to see granada if you only have one day in granada see the alhambra go as early as you can and then at night you can go for dinner down in the alvin it would be far better to take two to three days to see alhambra on one and see the rest of granada with the other two days also be prepared for a lot of heavy duty walking lots so much [Music] finally on to ronda our last but not least must see city in andalucia five musk knows about rhonda number one rhonda is a mountaintop city that is a great combination of granada and cordoba its major landmark is a tall bridge but what we didn't know before going is that it has much more to offer like granada it promises some of the most epic views of the land surrounding ronda has some hilly areas like granada but overall feels closer in size and feel to cordoba number two ronda can all be seen in one day but like many of these other cities you could enjoy it for much longer number three the historic bridge puente nuevo spans the 120 meter deep chasm that carries the the water levin river it's one of the most photographed bridges in spain and is quite a spectacular sight to see and although it's quite enjoyable on its own it's certainly not the only amazing thing to see in rhonda like the arab baths well this is a small site it's a great way to get to know a little bit more about the history of the nasrid people these baths were greatly known throughout andalusia for the ingenious construction and enjoyable atmosphere the almeida delft tahoe this is the perfect place to take in the spectacular views of the hills and valleys around rhonda bring a picnic or a drink to this location and just sit for a while to enjoy one of the best views in spain speaking of views you have the garden views garden where many people go to take the well-known photo of the bridge we happen by it on a stroll through town but feel it needs to be on your itinerary you get the best view of the bridge as well as another small bridge the river the cliffs and some historical buildings the garden itself is lovely but the views surrounding it are the best in town and finally the town shops of course you should make time to enjoy a stroll through the shops and eat breakfast or a snack at one of the many cafes that offer churros dipped in rich hot chocolate many of the streets are blocked from vehicles and so strolling around is nice and leisurely now the walkability is not as challenging as granada but ronda still has some hills to walk up and down when wanting to see the various areas of the city the shop areas are fairly easy to walk around but some of the walk you'll have to pause and catch your breath and finally rhonda also has some lovely ancient walls that you can walk along and if you do then you'll probably come up upon some cool towers that you can climb up and enjoy the view from there our biggest mistake is that we underestimated ronda we almost didn't see it in fact this ended up being a last minute decision and we left our airbnb a day early to go because we left a day early we didn't end up getting a lot of video which is too bad because it actually wound up being one of our favorite places in spain and our final takeaway is to put rhonda on your list even one day we'll give you a chance to see this beautiful city we highly recommend it now even though we didn't get a video made for rhonda we definitely have videos for the other cities that we discussed and so please be sure to check those out and most importantly we really want you to watch the mistakes we made in granada and alhambra if you're gonna go there at all then please check it out because it will save you a lot of headache it'll make your trip a lot smoother so you can check that out here now that you've learned about these amazing places in andalusia we want you to subscribe below and like this video stay in touch because we can help you with so many places not just spain if you decide to go travel other places as well sally subscribe below and follow us every mile [Music] you
