so let's pretend here big Open Spaces staircase right there thanks to EXL for being a partner of this channel good morning guys welcome back to our channel it's it look like I'm crying I have something in my eye that keeps bugging me off and on today we're going to get stuff done it's our last home school day of the week guys I have a pregnancy update for you coming if you missed the last video yes we're expecting our 12th baby it's very exciting and I'm going to give you lots of details it has not been without drama so be prepared for a chatty video coming up with the next video but today we just got to get things done um before the weekend it's a weekend where're Souls leaving town I just want to wrap School up you guys had a lot of questions about our home school the last time I did it so I'll answer some of those if we get finish school can we all go to the big par um it's rainy muddy yucky day today I left this morning I had to get some blood work done and these guys a lot of them you got most of your school done I had you kind of did a little bit Desi mom mom a ton is that a yarn I saw that M I don't know are you drawing on that place mat mommy only have two more worksheets left and then I'm done I don't oh good okay let's finish up Eli's working on his stuff no is working on her stuff tor's downstairs working on her stuff the big boys are working on their stuff downstairs I a lot of qu people had questions about my big notebook this is how I homeschool so many kids at once and keep track of it all as you can see some water spilled on it but this is like my go-to thing and I normally I have it open to where we left off but there's a few things we have to catch up on that required a DVD player that we couldn't find anyway I have a section for each child and so I can go there and see exactly what they've done and where they're working and I use I fill this out like it says history reader read aloud Bible poetry that all comes from our Core Curriculum that we use it comes it tells me everything to do I take a 5-day curriculum I put it into four days and I kind of plan it out but it gives me a really good road road map of what to do and then I add in we have our own vocab English the science also comes from that core one and then we have a math that we do so I kind of fill all that in we have a box for practicing the piano and then I have a box for checking off when I have seen that that whole day is done so some of my kids will work far on several subjects and then catch up on other subjects some work each day through it kind of depends on their age of how much flexibility I give them I just use a program on my computer to put that together like a graph and it's very simple and easy and maybe I will make one soon that you guys could just download if a blank one um I could probably put that together maybe in even in this video I'll just how about this I will put a blank one together if you want a copy of it you can actually just download this that would be blank but I'll put our subjects in it and we do a 36 we 4 day a week schedule but you could just change that however you want you could change any of the subjects that kind of thing my bigger kids have a copy of the schedule themselves um so they can look at that and see what they need to do Eli is helping hope right now but one thing I that is huge to me from the beginning we have homeschooled all our children from the beginning so my my two kids my 20-year-old and 18-year-old that um have graduated they have been homeschooled the whole they were homeschooled the whole time so one thing that's very important to me is independent so I really like them to be independent as early as possible so when they're reading strongly that's when they be become more independent Noel is a third grader I read a lot of stuff to her certain things in her history and all of that but there's a lot she can do on her own she can read her math lessons and try to do them on her own if she has questions she brings them to me and then in that checklist I make sure in every few days of math I have a check with Mom day so even if she had no questions I'm checking all the work she did and then we can go back and look at anything she got wrong maybe she missed a concept altogether I don't want it to go too far without teaching her that concept and so I schedule in like days that she has to check with me and that's just one of the things on her list that day check math with Mom so then I look at those last three lessons that she did and make sure she actually got the concept so I really like them to learn out of the books themselves I was a public product of a public school that was supposedly in a really good school area school district and sometimes you can get all the way to the college level before you learn how to learn on your own I want them to learn how to learn on their own as early as possible that same thing is true for their English the vocabulary they're reading I have them read it and then we'll just discuss it I could I don't need like somebody to tell me our curriculum has uh questions you can ask them I may have used that some for Judah but then I quickly realized it's very easy to tell if they're understanding it by just having them tell you about the story I tried to read as many of their books as I could and then uh we have a curriculum That's Heavy book so we re just we reuse so much and we don't have to buy much curriculum anymore so I hope that answers some of your questions I really like them trying to learn as much as they can on their own and that really does save me time as well so one thing we have incorporated into our home school this spring has been ISL which is an online learning program that really adapts to your child and where their needs are in important subjects like English and math we have been using it for our sixth grader down to our preschooler right now and have really been loving a lot of its features honestly sometimes it can be hard to remember what grade everybody's in and so I really liked being able to gauge where they fall next to their agates in the same grade level so so this has helped us get a good grasp on where they fall and a lot of times they've been able to move really far ahead which is great they've been they've been doing very well on it we've been using it to reinforce skills that are more of a challenge for example some of my kids are really good at reading and writing naturally but maybe fractions are more of an issue it's been a really fun and interactive way to improve skills in like a low pressure environment so it's worked really well for us making more difficult skills fun which is awesome we've used it for our preschooler who hasn't started any formal teaching yet he's been learning solely through play so we really didn't know where he would fall at all he's four years old and when we set him up with this we realized he knew a lot more than we thought he did he's been asking to do school all the time and he really enjoys it ISL is shown to improve kids test scores and it actually gives me feedback by email of how they're doing and it provides adaptive Diagnostics so you can really see where your child's at so I love all of those features so ISL has 25% off right now because it's their 25th anniversary which is not interested in just giving them a grade and moving on if they did not do well on that test we're going back to learn those Concepts so there's a couple of our curriculums like or English has some tests in it so we'll use the tests kind of just as a to figure out where they're at if they know all the concepts and if they don't we go back and we learn those or we figure them out so I'm not just testing and then oh you got an F and we keep going no that's the beauty of homeschool is you can make sure that they actually learn it uh some kids need longer on a subject some kids need a lot more reinforcement in some way and some kids they can just fly through it and uh I've had some kids in their English they're like this is way too easy for me and I've told them go ahead and just take the test if you if you get everything right on it you can skip that chapter so there's a lot of flexibility we have because our goal is not to just do a bunch of busy work our goal is not to just test our goal is not to just memorize our goal is to actually learn the concepts if they know them no need to keep going over them if they don't know them we can keep going over them also we school year round that's another thing that I think has been so helpful to us I actually started it because I realized after like my third year that I was losing my mind in the spring I don't know how you teachers do it I was just like so over it in the spring I realized we just needed more breaks I needed more breaks and so we started doing year round and just taking a lot more frequent breaks when I started it we would do six weeks on two weeks off all year round and now we just kind of take our breaks when we need them and keep going when we don't uh but a huge benefit for the kids of course that helped me right away mentally God bless you teachers that I go nine months straight but it helped me so much mentally to be able to just keep going which is good cuz now I've been homeschooling for 16 years the benefit for the children has been that we don't have to review because we don't have long breaks from anything so there's not this big Review Time a some of our curriculum like our math reviews a lot in the beginning the kids just kind of fly through that stuff or skip some of it because we don't need the review which help us helps us to move through faster so when you're only taking a little time off at a time the most time we ever take off is a month and that would be for a Kenya trip or once in a while we'll do that long at Christmas okay guys I brought you back to our house I've really been wanting to show you oh let's see if I can jump oh barely I showed you this uh recently in a video and it was in the dark since that time no more work has been done because of weather um but I just wanted to show you in the daytime and show you our beautiful view and just give you a little better tour uh of what I can for now why are my eyes watering so much I need to take my contacts out here we are I just walked in the front door which will be a double door so excited about that up there is the Loft that we have not seen yet unless we want to walk up these stairs I just can see myself falling I saw a lot of guys walking on it I'm sure it'll be fine but I'm not going to risk it uh you walk in to just big open spaces so Let's Pretend here big Open Spaces staircase right there firefli there big living room to the back that's a four panel tall sliding door and so is that and you can see you can see both of them from the front door you're hearing the rustling of paper that is on the house that's a dining area back there big table four panel sliding door huge island counters fridge counters sink under the window that kind of deal there's just a tiny bit of wall here of where the counters will come to and there'll be counters on that side I showed you last time in the dark but this is our pantry that will have a pocket door with counters sink under that big window again you can see this big window and the other kitchen window both look up at the little house which is kind of fun it is cold and windy today I can see why they're not working but um at least I get a chance to film I think the wind is making my eyes water but both of our kitchen windows you can see through to that kitchen or that dining room and from the front door you can't you look at trees so here's the other kitchen window and you can see the little house up there but yeah this room will be lined with shelves for food and countertops and have all our small appliances coffee maker everything and we'll be able to shut it I really wanted a big sink in here for like soaking pans and stuff overnight can clean up your kitchen and just leave your mess back there hopefully that's the goal there's a little hallway here that's blocked off right now with just some support beams but you can see here's a broom closet a small bathroom and you walk back to that hallway which I'll walk through the walls here to show you you come in off of the garage and you if you can see one of our garages is tall for a 15 passenger van that's a mid roof Ford Transit so you walk in here and this is going to be the Zero Entry so no Step at all and you walk into this mud room that will be lined with maybe Locker type cupboards I'm not quite sure we'll see if that's in the budget otherwise hooks on the wall and then in here I can't remember if this is a door but it looks like a double door so I have a feeling it's just open which would be fine with me this is the laundry room and there will also be a sink be a sink under that window there for like cleaning out milk stuff from the milking the cow we have a cow that is definitely going to need a milking machine or we're pretty sure because uh of her Anatomy so some of those trees are coming down right there not all of them but we look out to the pond all over the house so cool and the living room and front door look out to trees so here next to the fireplace is our Master Suite what I can't even believe I'm saying that this is a hallway uh first so on this side is a nursery or it could be my office if we don't need it for a nursery at some point so excited about that never we've we've had almost all our babies in a master bedroom closet even peace is right now that has worked really great cribs fit really well and we've always had a closet that had some ventilation so we've used it for nursery uh but to actually have a little room next to our master bedroom will be wonderful I'm so excited about that um and then one day I will not have more babies and then it would be really nice to have my own little office I've never had an office of my own so and I do work going down this hallway for now my desk um will probably just be in our bedroom like it normally is actually right now I don't even have a desk so uh this is our master bedroom we got a bed I guess we go there we've got a view of the woods on both sides here and an amazing view of the water once again which remember some of those trees will come out and that one there too um I love it okay walking in here I can't wait to have a room with a door we got a locked right now this is the master bathroom in here I I hope this comes across on camera okay and it's not too hard to see but there's a little uh separate room for a toilet which we've never had so excited about that I can't even tell you this is a big walk-in closet and this is the bathroom with this will have a counter with two sinks here and under this big window will be a soaking tub and then this is like a cave shower I guess and I think this is a little linen closet I think our last house our master bedroom was massive this is not that big um but we had our office in it and our baby in it and all of that so this will work out really well I think with the rooms combined it would probably be the size of our other Master the two rooms Comin so over here is a staircase going down this will be a rail here into the dining room by the way a wood burning fire there by the way the loft is a big playroom School room game room everything room and it will be really where little kids hang out more I find in my experience little kids it's great to have a playroom but if it's far from Mom and Dad they don't want to play in it and I really love the Loft at our house now they can be playing up there right now it's our room but before we had their room in it and they would be playing up there they feel like they're a part of everything part of the action but also they're toys our way and so I think that room will be really nice it has very big Windows I'll take you up there eventually and um there there's a storage closet where we can stock stock a lot of our games our homeschool materials all of that homeschool desks knowing us we'll bring a lot of H school down to the kitchen table but at least it will have a place to live for me I don't need a school room but I need a place for all those books to go that's the biggest thing by far like just get them out of my sight when we're we're done with them right so as we came down the stairs we are in a big room that is a living room this one would be like more for big kids where the Loft has little kids more um I imagine a couple couches here we will have a gas fireplace here and then this is another four panel large sliding door looking out to the water we have a bathroom here with also a with also a separate door for the shower and toilet couple sinks and then this one is going to be the music room um it's also a walk out but actually I think it's going to be Solo's office SL music room so we'll see how that works out there's a nice big closet there too for storage and then there's some rooms down that hallway as well that's the basics of it for now I hope that gives you a good idea it's so funny how when you're building a house you go through stages where it seems really small then it seems really big with the walls up the framing it seems a lot bigger than it did before that Micah is making dinner he's going to make a Mongolian beef Nana's vacuuming do you hear Nana vacuuming so this is a beef recipe with a whole lot of garlic and ginger and noodles and soy sauce and hoison sauce which Luca's stopping at the store for cuz we didn't have that one Seth's having a snack of granola and that is the leftover Bowl for the birds that's been collecting for 2 days here are you going to take that down huh yes why not go down why not go three I rested today I'm glad my mom was around we just sat around together I didn't feel guilty no guilt I should do it every day it was awesome this is my little setup right here we watched a show and the kids finished their school they have friends coming over to play tomorrow so that was good incentive to get their school done after oh so much fun it's always good to have incentives oh piece you look so cute I've gone back to my resting spot guys wow I love how I love how she holds that little skirt all the way up did you have a PJ day yeah you guys would think she has one all the time but the last one she had I I was vlogging that day too PJ days are the best especially when it's cold and windy and dark outside right it's not dark anymore well it was dark most of the day Nana am I the best mom ever yeah Solo's home why you can't light up for some reason the light's behind you did you lose it let me teach you okay when he comes home he goes straight to the new house to dream it was cold down there wasn't it it was cold but it was awesome it feels like a CH though that's the second time I've said that it do cuz of the ey ceiling what I don't think so the the cathedral in Christ he took the boys down and the boys went up into the I want to say attic The Loft The Loft it's awesome yeah so I can't wait I know today I actually didn't tell you but today we went to um see a house of that our Builders recently finished and they wanted us to see it just kind of see some of the finishes that we're trying to pick out and see it in real life you know the couple was so sweet to have us in and look around but that made it really exciting too cuz it's a beautiful home we're like oh my goodness we're going to have a beautiful bigger home very soon they don't have 11 children but they have 11 grandchildren yeah and I like Thea that was awesome yes they have a huge island with nothing in it and I was like that's what I'm getting a huge island with nothing on it like no sink no stove because we need we're always serving food like we just always need more space on the island and even in our other house we had a big island but it wasn't nearly as big as what we're getting and we were always out of space on it so so exciting to see some of those things in real life oh my goodness did you hide the calculator your calculator in your skirt let me teach you to this a math you want me to teach you how to do a math okay here I'll teach you how to do too so let's clear this up okay and then do how are you pce two and then yeah after 3 years how old are you going to be after after 3 years you're going to be five do you want us to find out after 3 so you're two right now plus 3 more years equal 5 after after 3 years you're going to be five she tells everybody she's three right now sometimes four exactly do you want to do another one it was a joint effort between mic and I but it turned out and and Eli a little bit it was very good okay we ate dinner all of us together that meal was very good it was a little too sweet for Tori and I oh okay we'll add less sugar next time we make it will we make it again yes it was good it was really good we served it with green onions and now we're going to lay here again perfect only now I'm drinking a cup of tea yeah we've added tea a dog and we're going to watch Anna Green Gables Anna Green Gables luuka are you going to watch with us he has earbuds proof of life he still does live here we all sat down at the table together it's been a minute it's been a minute I hope next time I show you the house it has Windows and Doors it would be a lot warmer and we can go in the Loft his musle he's about to go out for a run uh and he just came from the gym oh brother I wish I had that kind of energy uh guys don't forget to check outl if you're wanting some great
