[Music] so scotland it's the home of curling and this weed it welcomes athletes from all around the world as it hosts the 2021 world makes doubles curling championship we're in aberdeen known as the granite city for 20 teams to battle it out not only for a prestigious world title but also vital qualification spots at the 2022 winter olympics in beijing our venue is carl aberdeen built in 2005 and now hosting its fourth world level event if you join us for session seven we will see the home team scotland take on rcf and it's time to meet the teams scott will throw the redstones two well kent players bruce mowitt and jennifer dodds they're coached by greg drummond rcf will throw the yellowstones alexander ederman and anastasia musguleva they are coached by vassily guden we've seen three games on this side of the draw and so far canada and czech republic and scotland lead the way unbeaten three and zero germany and italy are two and one hungry in korea one win in two defeats australia spain and our team from the rtf still to score across the sheet as well as our own game we'll be looking to see excerpts from germany versus italy korea versus spain hungary versus the czech republic and australia versus canada there are some variations to the rules for mixed doubles curling away from the normal four-person game there are two players one male and one female there's one pre-positioned stone per team per end and there are five stones to play per end each team has 22 minutes thinking time across the eight ends that they will play players will either throw first and fifth stone or second third and fourth stone depending on which positions they take up the players can switch positions through the game if required uh not a common variation but uh is sometimes deployed there are no takeouts until the fourth stone has been played and there's one power play per team which we will come to as and when we need to so everyone's in position we're all ready to go i'm alan chalmers in the commentary box and again this morning i'm joined by rona howie morning rona good morning alan all set absolutely scotland undefeated wanting to keep that record rcf looking for the first win yep doesn't make them a bad team uh just a few stones here there just haven't gone their way so far this week so scotland will be wary of them [Music] players just waiting for the umpires to give them the signal to proceed and uh will be underway scotland got the better if they draw the shot challenge so they have the hammer so we will see rcf anastasia mostly eva through the first stone of the game looking just to play the conventional route in behind the guard somewhere close in front of the back red i've seen a really good curl in the ice this week and there you saw the stone coming out the other side yeah over curls immediately see how much swing there was on the ice we'd try and guess that she was uh on the brush and all well played but just under eyes a little bit even if that's slightly heavier weight get curly and curly so it's jennifer dodds well known to the curling world part of the eve near head ladies team just recently back from the world women's championships held in the calgary bubble just last week actually not much recovery time for jen [Music] nice spot so just didn't finish at the end enough but it's good position top of the forefoot controlling that area very usable for scotland dave murdock's got the binoculars out already this morning must be checking out the stones thrown in the other sheets [Music] here we have alexander airman he's thrown this stone he's played a different handle he's trying to come off the uh the outer barrier side as we look at the the sheet there looking to curl it in on the intern but again this one's going it's uh short short for weight you can see the extra curl that's caused so advantage advantage scotland at the [Music] moment i think that's close yeah i like it [Music] bruce moritz i'm sure i don't need to explain to everybody who bruce mode is but just in case there are any newcomers here bruce is uh the current skip of the maine's scottish team and it was also at a recent world championship in the calgary bubble where he got all the way to the final and came unstuck against team sweden nicolas sadine but it was a fantastic achievement that's bruce's third worlds and he's improved every time he's gone from sixth to third to second it's a good trajectory to be on and he has played a wonderful opening stone there putting a little bit of pressure on rcf straight away first end what do you think wrong it was difficult to tell sometimes when there's no skips in the rings to give us any clues but we pick up any signals as to what they might be looking at here just playing the same shot as bruce do you think yeah i think they had indicated could they get round and try and follow bruce whether they could get to the inside yeah looks like a tighter line so i think the call was maybe to try and tap up the yellow now even to bring off that red just like that pretty good result yep i think that's uh that's worked out well for them he's managed to get control of the top of the of the one foot circle now bruce he's got a shot i think to kind of maybe chip it out [Music] it's certainly better than it was for rcf yeah scotland got last stone at this first end they want to give themselves the chance to score two or more you can see bruce has got some strapping on his arm and plasters on his fingers obviously as a skip he's not used to this sweeping malarkey he's a skip he's probably got blisters and places he didn't know he could get blisters perfect make him appreciate the work that uh young hammy and uh and bobby lambie do for him in the men's team just over curled the nose i wanted to set at an angle there it should spin out this way that's the thing with mcdoubles there's so many stones in play around the forefoot you've got to think a few stones ahead you're not just dealing with what's in front of you you're planning for the end of the end yep i think he's planning ahead he thinks that yellow if if hit via the red would would actually spin out having ricocheted off the road behind it [Applause] [Music] maneuver another yellow in either directly or just maybe using the red to ricochet yeah just trying to roll off that red into the pocket he just spun back too far he wanted to get into that nestle on top of the red yeah i just caught the caught the first one too thinly i guess and uh a real chance i missed a chance there i think a couple of sweeps on that would have held it that bit straighter yeah like this yeah that was my first thought so same as a little more i think a little more yep there we can see close up it's a great chance for bruce to come in and get into that one foot and make it very difficult for rcf to follow [Music] the only real danger to scotland is that yellow on the left hand side that could be raised so if bruce can get another one in here yeah looking to come right into the button for this one mine's good lighting weight's close [Music] there we go well he called called the weight that was just being maybe a fraction heavy so he's come he's come deeper than i think they would have liked originally still still very useful yeah they had to sweep that for line it was curling big at the end there and had to pass that top red one still certainly asking the question now of rcf yep electing not to make a play on the yellow on the left hand side onto the yellow that we can just see a fraction of reckon there's no merit in that and we might uh potentially scotland a final draw for a three so i think this is a defensive strategy i think they're putting up a blocker to make it really tough for scotland to score the bigger end yeah ideally they would like to come in here and just like even second shot and make it very difficult for scotland to score to [Music] they left it too late they did they didn't anticipate that swing early enough nope we saw that on bruce's one there was a late late heavy sweeping because there was a late break point on that one i think uh rsf maybe just didn't spot that and they've just made the cardinal error of catching the top red move across sideways come in for a three not an easy shot but it's definitely there yeah they just need to get things out of that yellow and with that good curl at the end it's very easy to come off the inside and score three here i like the weight the hair died maybe okay yep oh wait on my way on my clothes [Music] trying to make it curl should begin to curl about now i think they do need to touch the yellow to help it on its way just didn't quite get thin enough on that one so it's too red bruce is offering two red up good effort by by jennifer there just couldn't get the the curl to maneuver the third stone in but uh a pleasant pleasant start for scotland yeah two nil up on rcf after one end just that here more weight i just wasn't 100 sure if it was going to get that same snap like bruce's or not [Music] [Applause] hey [Music] okay yep i just needed hers to roll another foot and then we had to shop nothing good start yeah play this in again 10 feet off that i think if i give you stuff do you think that would be okay i think you're back for your freezer back on so we are ready to go at the start of n2 jennifer dawes to lead us off i heard them talking about the weights the lines are great communication between the two and obviously know each other very well we played curling together a lot now but uh in formative years in edinburgh and now it was part of the academy set up in sterling that we're lucky to have in scotland here yeah and that's the national calling academy the british curling program although these two players playing their team environment and training they've also played mixed doubles competitions every week so they've had that experience of playing the tactical side that's different to this than their team game bruce has obviously got a lot of experience in mixed doubles jennifer's newer to the game in that respect yep this is bruce's fifth appearance at the mixed doubles steady performer all over the years [Music] jennifer put the attempted freeze right on the top of the button so rcf come down change the angles around a bit just just poke it through a little bit well played shot straight in this yeah i'll just play the freeze for now okay and look over at sheet e australia versus canada first end canada line one not an easy draw here for kerry anderson needs to go out wider and there it comes a big swing at the end ah really nice shot so score of two canada lead two nothing after the first end back to our game that was a lovely shot by bruce he's just come around on the counterclockwise yeah these first few stones of the end are so important the stone placement of them you're setting up for the whole end you don't want to be chasing the end and mix doubles you want to be in controlling that top of the forefoot it's all about changing the angles just we bump backs and making sure the angles favor you rather than your opposition we're trying to play the same type of tactic but coming in a different direction looking to get close to the stones at the top of the forefoot just bounced off it you wanted really just a half check that top rate you can see there that the yellow just bounced out into the open now give scotland a chance to play a bit more weight at this one try and remove a couple of these yellows just curl past nose bruce sees a chance to remove some yellow take out some yellow and leave another red counter in a danger position but it's just curled on him caught the guard rcf like two and playing yeah for lying well they could guard that but you don't want to really be putting out the long guards uh when you've got last stone yeah you'd have to stretch your guard quite a lot no matter which one you cover the other one is going to be available now so i think uh i think they'll try and bring this one in close still yeah even freezing right in the pockets not a bad shot from beginning yep that's pretty good result there [Music] hopefully just one of them sticks but it's in half yep you might have to go on this one our chef just wanted that to curl a fraction more so it was more over the red make it harder for scotland to remove scotland can i catch the inside of that yellow as we're looking at it and try and do some damage by removing a couple of the yellows yeah so this is precise because it the yellow is overlapping the red so it's not straight front to closed back not ended up in available favor there and bruce has taken that full advantage great shot opened up opened up the circles removed a lot of uh damaging rcf stones really probably uh taking away the risk of the big end that was potentially building there so just going for the nose hit to lie too but i'm not sure those stones are pretty close as to who's second shot just give jennifer dodge now the chance to lift a double in these yellows perfect yep seven eight so be close but three quarters [Music] just that constant communication exactly what's where the stone is to hit no no no no really got a curl to make this one come down a little bit no he's i think they knew as soon as jen let that one go that was just a touch height wasn't coming back for her that one i'm sorry if the draw to the fourth foot in a little bit for a two i uh [Music] a really nice draw for two yeah comfortable drop well played i could end that for rcf they they controlled it pretty much all the way through bruce uh bailed scotland it's uh with his last stone not the last stone at the end of his last stone so after two ends the score is scotland two rcf two so i missed my second [Applause] [Music] [Music] huh [Music] so we're back underway at the start of the third end of the scotland versus rcf game aberdeen scores tied at two all as it's custarine mixed doubles curling there's been lots of stones in play usually clustered around the forefoot for exciting curling similar to the first in there just the first stones just run on a little deep a little over curled there's a nice pocket for scotland [Applause] [Music] the break there the snap jennifer called it in the first end this stone just loses its forward momentum it begins to curl a really nice shot yeah i don't think there was any real advantage being right to the pocket on that one and i think she wanted to try and keep stones forward control of the front of the forefoot circle yep because if you go back to freeze completely then rcf could come in right on top of you and be controlling over that button there's a lovely stone by alexander as we look over sheep b germany line one just on a chance for italy to score two stephanie constantini [Music] on the nose is good and perfect two in the board for italy 3-2 germany lead after two okay back with our main game here you can see that uh bruce's prismo has played another shot since we last saw and uh has come in to counter at the angles pushed the yellow across to one side pretty much position eight leaves uh rcf [Applause] a few options possibly to make a play in their own yellow foreign discussed a few options there i think they've settled on freezing in this staggered pocket between the yellow and the red give themselves some options for later on in the end yeah russia so rcf don't have last stone here so they don't want to open things up to let scotland in they want to try and keep it tight and freeze in the pocket yeah ends rattle through pretty quickly in this mixed doubles so you have to plan ahead you have to plan ahead because it can get it can quite quickly get away from you and [Music] they'll be pleased with that shot that's pretty much where they tap the brush gives them a few options depending on how bruce plays the next one yep it's a tippy tap game you're just moving stones that fraction closer to the button but it's all about getting the angles right great chance here for bruce just to tap their red up enough to lie too yep took the ice uh wide ice it looks like they're still coming in just at t-line top four wait here bruce called top four hi t-line t-line right in the nose yeah really nice great shot great weight control so you can just move the angle sufficiently enough to render the last rcs done less useful don't favor rcf much here to go in the way to the button is that red they just tap there it's going to jam on the back red yeah yeah there's uh raising the yellow onto it i think the the redstone at the top of the one foot circle i don't think rcf can get to that using yellow stones [Music] big weight trying to do some damage here yeah oh it did jam in the back but with that powerful weight that sprung it across really the best he could do there yeah i think so as close to this as possible we've had full velocity stone i think for that one yellow yellow combo took some reds out from behind it left it's left the yellow back in a good position again little opportunity for bruce to to clear it here though [Applause] first wait to hear up okay and again just the curl just catch them out yeah just not taking enough ice there for that weight we know it swings big at the end so how an end can turn yeah rca threw the high hard one in there did a lot of damage moved things around scott unable to counteract they're looking at here is ideally rcf would love to lift that double in the reds but they know the one behind is going to jam in the yellow at the back of the forefoot when you get an error from your opposition you need to capitalize but very difficult for rcf to make this double i think your best chance is a nose head i think either side is going to leave a red yeah they want to leave their yellow at the top in front but who's lying third shot [Music] we don't think there was a way that they could not jam that back yellow but to hitting it right on the nose sprang everything quite far apart so leaves a there's a double down the middle for jennifer dodds and then anastasia hit that just absolutely perfectly on the nose either way and it would have caused problems but she hid it absolutely perfectly although it left two reds on the side no option here but pretending for those i'm just drawing the forefoot running they know this line well we're running just now wait's great oh what's good when the sweeper says wait's great around the top header and into the one foot one right so after three ends the score now is scotland three rcf two yeah yeah that's just twice i've been quiet [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] say wait yeah i like that so back underweight at the end start of end number four scotland leading three points to two [Music] looking to come to the pre-play stone at the back of the four foot circles yeah super shot great start to the end looking to follow scotland stone into the one foot circle just created a little bounce fraction heavy just bounce to touch [Music] so just without being a wee bit heavy it's a great chance now for bruce mavic to come in freeze right on top of that yellow on the inside even maybe just threw it lighter than he was looking forward jumped up quickly so look over at sheet c real god love stones in this head trying to unpick how they lie at the moment yeah last one for korea see you in going for the run back and korea score one so they tie the game after three ends for all one nice run back [Music] my rcf yep obviously didn't fancy the way that the scottish stones were lying elected to play the run back still left uh some cover out front without damaging the pocket there so there's still plenty of room here for bruce throwing the third stone of this of this end for scotland looking to freeze back there and bruce's team qualified great britain for the olympic spot for men's curling and he would love to do the same this week here qualify for max doubles discipline as well [Music] makes doubles come into the last olympics just with eight countries this year there's ten spots available seven of them will be determined this week through the playoffs and things like that china will automatically qualify and there'll be two more after that so you can see on the screen there now we've got scores update it's uh scotland three rcf2 that's the game we're watching germany four italy two korea four spain fort hungry four czech republic one australia two canada four all games currently in their fourth end [Music] actually i've wanted to play again straight run back to lift that red off the top of the one foot i just peeled the guard it's gotten to be happy with the setup as it lies at the moment no easy path out for the stone that lies short at the moment keep going then i think yeah really nice guard yep well communicated by jennifer for the line whether to sweep for the girl or sweep to hold it straight just knew the weight was good you can hear him huffing and puffing a little bit i think he's going to give jennifer some instructions shortly the guards long enough and we've seen the good curl you can come around that just at a back four back eight wait tap it back you need to try and set something up here they've got last stone this is going a long way to curl wow yeah that's that's a well executed shot the problem with that now is that scotland can come down freeze right on top of it and really make it difficult for rcf to score here whereas if rcf had come around and just tapped the one back that's the top of the button i would have given them something to play with later in the end my first thought was this but looking at it yeah i think this does look easier yeah if you end up sitting here it's okay on this draw if you tap this a hair hi it's fine yeah i think i like the i like the tap okay you're just playing t weight yeah i think i'll just give you the same what i've been giving you for uh dolls on this side i like it okay bruce always so positive you don't need to play any big next step is so important communicate well with each other lovely for bruce to play a home event he obviously was the team that missed out when the glasgow men's world championships were postponed because of the covert outbreak so i'm sure he's enjoying a home championship some fans would be nice but totally understandable that they're not here i'm sure they're watching enjoying it [Applause] just wanting to tap their own red upping off any contact moves it on lies the shot really nice great shot and i still think earlier on if rcf had moved stones about a bit it would have given them something to play with with their last stone yeah you're right right now it's really hard yep the previous stone was probably just four inches five inches slightly too heavy gave scotland the chance julie capitalized on the only option here really is to come down and just nick that red that's flying shot out to the right-hand side yellow which is not an easy shot i just need to knick it out the one foot i really need our back for weight [Music] looks like it'll be too tight oh just got round the top one hit the stone she's looking to play and i believe from the overhead that leaves one yellow excellent well well communicated i thought she was just going to catch the very top red there just began to curl but did enough ultimately does enough and leaves rcf line one that squares the game at three points all as we reach the half way teams have a five minute timeout so we will leave them to that for the time being [Music] [Music] i was like in my head when it was like coming to rest thank god foreign okay so we've got time to look back over the highlights from the first half of the game started off scotland had the hammer down the first end maneuvered stones around very well left jennifer dodds difficult chance for a three trying to get this one to move with the sweeping hits the front yellow one ricochets slightly but not quite enough two to scotland two-nil lead after one rcf bounced back pretty nicely there was a lot of stones in play and then there wasn't um ultimately left anastasia musculature opportunity to draw for two stone was guided down perfectly into the rings for a score of two squared the game to all into the third end scotland had control of the end early and then a big hit by uh airmen changed the pattern jennifer dodds was left with an open draw to the forefoot circle there's no panic from either the sweeper or the throat bruce guided this one down very well into the button scotland's retook the lead to lead 3-2 after three ends yes final end in the first half scotland's tapped up stones to lie one just touching the one foot circle shot was left that uh rcf needed to just just tickle it out some strong sweeping did the job kendra on the top guard hits the red spills it enough leaves rcf flying one and the game's tied up at three points all as we get ready for the second half pretty even game uh through the total percentages uh just uh slightly in the rcf's favor actually with the hits i think we can recognize there was a couple of guards that were caught as scotland tried to play hits no stolen points though game's always gone with a hammer it seems it feels feels fairly even all the teams are through their halftime break so from the top we have scotland three rcf three germany four italy five korea four spain five hungry four check three australia four canada four [Music] we're back underway start of the second half of this uh intriguing fixture said at the top of the program that uh there probably wasn't much difference between a team that's three and zero going into this game and another team that's zero and three and i think that's proven to be the case so far uh however that's not a great not encouraging start for uh team rcf to begin with left that draw way short it was interesting they took a lot more rise because anastasias have over curled in the previous ends so they took a bit more ice there i think to try and hold it and just maybe that bit slower out further out in the wing [Music] so give scotland the chance to really attack into this end from from the very word go they're the one they're going to be controlling trolling the the middle of the circles i think it makes such a difference that first stone as it does in any curling really but particularly the case yellow guard as much as they can the inside yeah i think you're playing covered right again they're only just uh i think most of the time on this uh odd number of ends we've been playing on the the clockwise path that was the first time i think anybody's really attacked on the clock on the clockwise pathway maybe just a bit of fresh ice as well left jennifer's still a bit short but better there than behind the tee this one's looking very wide got a long way to curl up touch anything no it's not scotland can sweep that one through the back so i think it was just playing a tap back weight to try and just tap the red at the top of the forefoot back but this took too much ice so a great opportunity here for scotland to get a third one round behind cover great numbers for bruce marriott yeah really nice good day yeah really nice yep that's uh that's made things pretty tricky already uh two two uh low percentage shots certainly from rcf's helped scotland's calls but uh put their stones in great positions already and you can see there there's no opportunity for rcf to come around you're going to have to try and run back the front one do some damage [Applause] important to make contact with some red granite here great effort yeah open things up ideally i'd have liked to have kept the yellow that he was raising into the house at the top of the forefoot yeah absolutely correct drone and unfortunately for the rcf team he's also still left another red in to lie the second counter so although that looked pretty great shot it's not changed the pattern of the end an awful lot that gives a chance for bruce to come around here top tee and why three scotland i've got last stone so a great opportunity here wait's great curling hard now i think yep yep yes hard to bring it into top four because there is such a big curl if you leave that at the 12 foot it would be easy for rcf to come around so that's a perfectly placed stone from bruce there both teams have got 22 minutes of thinking time it's up to them how they manage it throughout their eight ends so i thought we might see uh rcfu's airman's power to to take off another front to back but now they've changed they've changed pattern here and he's gone down to play a draw he's using the big curl that rona described try and come around the button is still open a good effort at the sleeves bruce a little opportunity to maybe even just come that push it back deeper roll into the top button which would uh leave scott in line four potentially [Applause] yeah it's just about playing a controlled weight here don't want to be wide and heavy and jam maybe even if you play down weight you've got the opportunity to even just split your own red at the top of the forefoot hoping they can make this one start to go the bigger curl required there but he's moved stones around yeah that yellow is very lonely in there rcf got the chance to get to the inside of that red and get away flopping behind yep just exactly like that he must have heard me it's just playing that even back eight weight just put the red out to the left and get your shooter rolling in behind yeah just got to be careful they don't do the same as bruce just did and leave it hit it slightly high which would then looks like put the red back to the yellow he's gotten a bit more room [Music] slope even if they did do that allen as long as they keep the yellow shooter at the top then it makes it very difficult scotland to remove it anastasia musculature she's struggled in the tournament so far but having a good game today here it goes a lovely shot do they lie too [Applause] just glance the yellow on the way back the stone that uh anastasia hit it was a really nice controlled weight here we come rcf looking to get the inside of the redstone in the fourth circle and slide into the button which they accomplish nicely there that one glances the red on the front the red one glances the yellow one at the back definitely line one [Music] what needs the curl really needs the curl weight's great okay there it goes don't need to curl so you can see it was quite wide coming over the hog line but it will come back at the end can it bite the button just didn't coming off the weight was perfect it was perfect wasn't it ultimately it's a steal for rcf [Music] and they take the lead four points to three after five ends [Music] [Applause] what do you like sorry all right okay all right so it so you can see the rcf just taking the lead just after the half time break at fifth end's been played it's gotten delighted to take their power play a variation on the setup rona do you want to talk us through that yeah so because they have last one they can elect to play their power play so the stones are placed as a corner guard and one behind rather than down the center line so this is an opportunity keeps the center open but also the garden play at the side good chance for scotland to try and generate a multiple end multiple score here [Music] there you can see the stones instead of being down the center or more over to the left it's gotten you can choose either side they've taken the uh the out turned path for them and anastasia [Music] has drawn round the corner guard just in front of the red i think i heard scotland say that they thought uh rcf were lying one however it's very early and uh this gives jennifer a chance to make a play onto the stones in the rings behind the guard [Music] hard really hard go go straight straight hard go go lovely shot yeah really well played there by jennifer so take a look over at sheet d hungary versus czech republic hungary of 4-3 up [Applause] czech republic lying pretty well here at hungary dorothea polanski going for the nose hit to score one [Applause] kiss trying to hold the line over curled oh just too much and it's a steal of one for czech republic so that ties the game for all after five so rcf choosing to go to the other side to the open part of the house just to keep away from that corner guard and not get sucked in to that side yeah even though jennifer played a nice tap back rcs still lie the one so i think splitting the rings putting some distance between them it's probably wise at this stage of the end uh teams only got one power play per game so you usually see them played in the second half of the game slightly bigger weight from bruce that's okay i wanted to get the roll over but it's good there if they knows if the rcf knows that one that bruce just played unlikely they will be second shot well it's gotten to maybe make further plays in the corners [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] see the green lights coming on there just indicates that it's a legal stone and released it before the hogline [Music] silence on this one yeah just a half stone take out so so now a chance for scotland to capitalize on that error you can just enough weight to tap it back why three yeah i think they want to try and tap it back and maybe roll a bit themselves throwing it back towards the middle because it's going to be quite uh appealing place to freeze to if they were to leave it exactly where it is yes absolutely can't see the whole stone back line they've called so even if you did come off the top red you're not going to do a huge amount of damage you'd still have three counters in the house choosing the correct weight to play [Applause] yeah like that position that uh my my concern was if they nosed it and the rcf would just then have frozen onto and taken out any chance of their big big end [Applause] so some damage limitation here rcf trying to lift the double just on the high side again too thin in the front one that was her chance i think i think we'll now see scotland yep spread stones around the rings two further well-positioned stones well don't mind you could bring another one right in the corner guard i don't mind either split the house if you split the house you may leave a double if you come around the corner they probably are going you know then they don't want to hit the open one because they're definitely kind of losing a three at that point [Music] let's go over there even if i'm like top eight i think it's okay give me more and again just chosen just to go to the open side yep either either option had its own merits should see this one move a bit we've seen uh it's when stones cross the center tape because it's a slightly new path it's in the path that's been used not very regularly through the rest of the game all week we've seen stones really curl perfectly placed really nice you can see great separation no easy double i think if you were really needing to score three at this end you would come around that guard david stone placement is great from bruce yeah absolutely squared them up across the front of the ring so anastasia looking to hit the one that bruce just played play a role in the front of the back counter and make it awkward to me to move out cleanly stutter here move out cleanly just like that could try it just rolled too far i was thinking hack okay played like a back line down here yeah i'll play that 11 a half okay so ideally they just wanted to roll on top of the red to make it more difficult for scotland just gone too far this is a nice hack jen so here we are at last stone of the end opportunity for scotland to score three [Music] four dodge just needs a a nose hit just play a heart weight tap back clean clean yep girl bit heavier then needs to come down and there's stones with the cross okay does the red one hang on no problem yes it does well done the beauty and the benefits of the power play after six ends sorry great first show from us make the choppy [Music] okay make it jen yeah same i've been giving you i think okay so ready to go seventh end of eight scotland uh took a three to open up a six four lead however rcf have taken their own power play the stones are set up with the corner and the one behind it on the t line hoping to do exactly the same as scotland did take a three or more with it yeah i'm with the scoreboard scotland having that two-point lead just decided to tick their own red guard into the rings there sorry good line but just not enough weight yeah just put it in the rings rcf looking to play from the intern side of christian there's no hitting stuff stones out yet in the necessarily in the end so it's gotten kind of forced to come after a little bit [Music] foreign [Music] rotation in this stone uh really nice really good shot and with that more rotation it holds the stone better when there is such a big finish on the eyes the line's more controllable so we can see there in the split screen just different sweeping techniques um there is a standardized brush pad that you're allowed to use that all the all the players get their pads checked before the competition by the umpires to make sure that there's nobody got anything that's going to aid their sweeping yeah i think uh just different body position more than anything i think one was uh on on the uh trying to hold a stone for line excuse me one look maybe more is on the lower side i'm trying to get the stone to curl with the brush yeah so it's just a way that bruce has jumped up to sweep and if he needs a stone to curl he'll go to one side bruce is obviously used to playing the team game with having two strong sweepers now he's the one having to do the work [Music] [Applause] and especially mixed doubles with just one sweeper you do tend to see the angled sweeping to try and get more current but certainly the way the ice is uh curling out here you use with caution because it's plenty there's plenty curl natural curl so a chance now bruce to raise the red onto the yellow he needs to pass the guard ah really nice well played well swept yeah [Music] i'm gonna look at sheep b germany trailing italy seven to four score a couple at this end needs it to curl is it going to hang on oh just spins back in and no more and it's a score of two so italy now leads seven six after six time right scotland calling a timeout yeah you maybe just saw whilst we were watching the the german stone there that uh rcf played pretty good shot they managed to move the redstones around in the rings put their own shooter in behind the corner guards it's gotten still lie one rcf second and third well covered so a little thinking time required for scotland here yeah i can't be here i could be here that's fine yeah i do yeah yeah [Music] yeah no i like it yeah i like it okay let's make it okay let's try and bury it as well okay yeah one two three because they they can make that and then leave it there yeah it's pretty much same line as your your freeze okay so bruce's initial thought was to run back the yellow guard onto the yellows in the house and try and remove the two of them but national coach dave murdoch was well why don't you just come around you're lying one come around the guard out count both of their counters and you lie to that one buried do i like this call yeah particularly as the one that we've been driving up was going to be an rcf stone as well so um yellow and yellow would yeah you don't like to be hitting the opposition stones into the head that's maybe just the difference between the fours and the mixed doubles uh that's fantastic shot there dead level buried really puts the pressure on to rcf now full marks to the national coach yeah he just has to see it bruce has to play it really well judged well played so rcf now needing to make a play to play the shot that we talked about when bruce was contemplating things open open things up but he's really done nothing there i've seen him play a lot of big weight shots where just drop the weight a bit be more controlled and these big weight shots have tended to hit in the high side every time so this power plane not working well for rcf right now definitely favoring scotland [Music] if you weave it in the hand yeah i think you're there but i don't mind netflix okay mine's [Applause] [Music] so just trying to put this in an awkward position rcf i'm going to be forced to draw i feel for mine's really good mine's really good carl charlie if you can all right i tried to finish it a wee bit more at the end there achieve their objective rcf have played their power play and scotland are forcing them to take one and not an easy one facing three coming into the better running yeah i thought she would just have played really fast it's coming now okay well played yep super last stone by anastasia musculator takes her one which is not what they really wanted from their power play but uh it's a good shot all the same moves to score to scotland six rcf five after seven ends one end to play maybe extra end is an option no power play will be available in that one though so one up fully tick the guard um [Music] [Music] i don't think i've ever played [Music] okay we are now underway in the final end final scheduled end of this scotland rcf morning fixture scotland leading 6'5 looking to freeze the one at the back of the forefoot we'll say it many many many times this week that's the standard opening gambit i think you want to play like this and try and just play back four i think out turn yeah 7 8 on the inside's great both uh both players there jennifer and anastasia very well matched today not much not much between them it's made for very entertaining games so far rhona yeah it certainly has scoreboard's been living tuck all the way through just that power play in the sixth end really well played in by scotland gave them the jump in the scoreboard today scotland have just been that bit sharper with their stone positioning giving themselves opportunities could have done with that one ruling on just a touch further not disastrous yep straight back the scotland leading and with the hammer bruce is not going to waste any time in getting rid of the guard i think that's going to go here potentially looking at straight back i think i heard him say so he's looking to take some yellows out on the way through as well [Applause] yeah they don't want to get sucked into a messy end they've got advantage on the scoreboard and the hammer ah really nice opens things up it's left the center guard the rcf can still use but it's a lot cleaner and it's red for scotland to use later in the end if [Applause] required either perfect or not what they're looking for [Applause] yeah just uh just a little too deep i think lies the shot not not too threatening when scotland have the hammer they would love stones behind the t line to be able to come to peel into there yeah just feel that rcf they've just got one minute 27 less than the clock and they're just rushing into the hack at this end so far when they don't really need to they have got enough time to play the end yeah they're not having to play complex shots so the thinking time is not not really an element at this point you can see bruce very very similar on the hits but uh surpassing alexander on the draws percentage-wise maybe that's just been the difference that's given scotland the a small advantage they needed our need at this moment and game's not obviously finished yep and now with rcf coming in heavy with the last one a longer guard here won't really benefit them they're taking their time out [Music] foreign slash [Music] foreign [Music] right so after the coaches intervention decisions being made containing an intern lots of ice they're just trying to lie keep putting up the garden scotland keep clearing then the idea for the last one is to come in and lie to and force scotland to either a double or a draw for the one [Applause] it's just removing any danger of stone out the front single peel [Music] rona says probably looking to come into the four foot circle around the red one so it's got a little bit of the shots done and a little bit of the backstone see if they can tempt them into that kind of shot ultimately the button would still be open yeah if they can come halfway around it's not an easy hit for scotland you're asking the question draw the button trying to get this it's a screenshot enough it got enough running the whole forefoot is open on that side yep so currently rcf like too asking scotland a question months and years of practice all in one shot draw the button all you want for the last one of the game to have that opportunity to play the shot here's scotland last stone at the end looking to close the deal score there one it's not and it slips back oh hard lines jennifer [Applause] [Music] well there we go i think i think we're all a bit stunned by that one i think we all felt that uh scotland would have the forefoot available to them and make it however just go on to maybe a slippier path so it's a stolen two points for rcf they finished with a win over scotland so it's scotland six rcf seven okay yes so whilst we uh let that soak in we'll just look across the other scores there and as you can see the final score is scotland six rcf7 in the eighth end it's germany six italy eight korea eight spain five hungry seven czech republic six they've been a shock in the making of course on the far sheet currently australia seven canada five as they come to very much the last few stones of that game right well we're just about to go to the interview room we can see that the russian federation team have made their way into the booth and rona is going to ask them some questions many congratulations on your first win of the championship how would you sum up today's performance we play much better today compared to the two previous day finally we play like we usually play so it's got a great result because of this and you only get one power play per game how important is it to score when you've got that advantage pretty much it's a very special end and you should be more concentrated when you play and it's a chance to play aggressive and god advantage and alexander say it's a chance to turn the game to your side well many congratulations good luck for the rest of the week right so let's just look through what happened there in the second half of the game score was tied at three all at half time scotland uh [Music] scotland had a shot to uh try and score it wasn't much target space here and it's a beautiful weight by jen dodds just didn't quite curl enough left rcf flying one for steel to go into a four to three lead six then scotland elected to take their power play and pretty much executed it to perfection gen dodge was left with this little tap back option minimal fuss stone was put down tap back the yellow rolled slightly but a great three three score for scotland to move into the lead [Music] rcf have taken their power play in the seventh end haven't run out quite as smoothly for them they're left of uh firm tap back off the button to score their own one leading the score at this point at scotland six rcf five so down to the last end house was open scott had a chance to draw into the four foot circle for the win jennifer dodd's laying down the last stone the timings indicated that potter needed a sweep however around about now we began to think that they needed to put some brakes on and it never happened and it slid slid and unfortunately for scotland players fans everywhere supporting the team scotland it was to do rcf a suit and a 7-6 win for rcf okay so we've got some highlights of other things that we can look at now just uh that were happening as the interviews were taking place so uh pretty much is live we've got uh czech republic facing three hungry counters however they're looking to move one into the eighth foot circle to make hungry then have to play their last stone it looks like it's possibly just going to come up a bit light does comes up light hungry don't have to play their last stone they take a 7-6 win over the czech republic that's what it means to them another neighborly battle i guess so it's a bit of morning of shocks i think here in aberdeen today it's finished up scotland six rcf7 germany six italy nine korea eight spain five hungry seven czech republic six and biggest shock of all i think australia eight canada five it means there are no unbeaten teams i think in this section there you see so that has considerably tightened up the group we have canada czech italy scotland along three and one germany hungary korea just one behind on two and two australia rcf one and three and spain at the bottom of the moment zero and four [Music] that concludes our transmission for this morning hope you enjoyed that wherever you may be thank you very much for your company [Music] [Music] [Music] you
