Scotland politics: SNP leader future in doubt after opposition move

last week hza yusf dumped some key climate Targets this week he dumped the Scottish greens after spending days defending their po sharing deal we need to speak to the country with one voice our voice and as such I am clear that today marks A New Beginning for the SNP government first Minister were you told by anyone in your party either the greens go or you go no I wasn't by anybody so that's the answer to the question it's been my judgment in terms of how we govern I think there has been a feeling that the but house agreement has almost come to its natural conclusion at Hollywood the Scottish greens made it clear this wasn't an amicable breakup how angry are you feeling well it's obviously very mixed feelings uh I'm very disappointed that uh the first Minister has decided to throw his lot in with the right-wing and social conservative factions within his party I don't think it'll do Scotland any good or the government or him H Yousef headed in for another bruising first Minister's questions we said from the very beginning this was a coalition of chaos and it has ended in absolute chaos has abandoned and then some real Danger on behalf of the Scottish conservatives I lodging a vote of no confidence in Hamza YF tonight the Scottish greens confirmed they will back the Tories in their attempt to topple the first minister so this about revenge that I genuinely think that we shouldn't uh sort of lean into those kind of uh pretty toxic divisive thoughts this is a a situation that is not of our making we deeply regret that Hamza yusf has brought this situation about uh by tearing up uh an agreement that was working well to achieve political cooperation uh locking in a Progressive pro-independence Majority a confidence vote could happen as early as next week ditching a deal Hamza YF once described as worth its weight in gold could come with an unexpectedly heavy price tag well you know as far as breakups go this was an especially bitter one with far reaching consequences now some here are speculating the vote could come as soon as Wednesday next week it will be on a knife edge now because of that decision by the Scottish greens humza Yousef now leads a minority government here 63 of 129 msps at Hollywood it'll be very interested to see what his for leadership rival Ash Reagan uh potentially does in this vote she's now part of Alba's uh Alex Salmon's party she could become crucial on all this now if hza Yousef is to lose this it is politically inconceivable that he can continue in a role that he only took up about a year ago there are several options for what could come next now perhaps he would say yes I'll Stand Down but only in several weeks to allow for another leadership uh contest take place something that would reopen Old Wounds in the SNP right ahead head of a general election or if he was to choose to say I'm walking away straight away the parliament would have 28 days to pick a replacement first minister or FastTrack into an early Scottish Parliament election so another week of drama ahead
