Scan N Cut from START to FINISH!

hey everybody joy here it's friday friday again and boy do i have a lot of things to do this room is absolutely covered covered with fabric all over the floor and quilts and knitting and crocheting and pillows and stuff from the coaches oh my it's a mess so i have to clean that up first it is friday september 10 2021 and today we're going to play scan and cut scan and cut now scan and cut is not something i do very often but one of you asked me to show you what you do after you cut it out how do you get it on the shirt so i have to do what i always do when i start a project that i haven't done in a while you know i sew almost every day i quilt sometimes i do very little scan and cut so i have to do what i call sss and it's not what you think it is i know what that one is stop sit and study stop sit and study so i have to get my mind focused on scan and cut so i come up here where my scan and cut stuff is my scan and cut instructions this came with some of the um vinyl in that book that comes with your scanning cut now there's other brands i have scan and cut but in the book that comes with it there's some projects in there that you can do and if you follow those step by step that will probably teach you more than anything i just i just jumped right into it and started doing things and boy did i ever make a mess at first the first time i did it i did letters what were the letters something about sewing i think it was when we were sewing blues sew the blues away and so i had to cut out all these little tiny letters so the blues away and then instead of weeding out everything but the letters i pulled all the letters off and lined them up on my table s e w no no no no that's completely totally wrong i remember that so what you do is you weed away all the parts you don't want all that's left is what you do want hopefully it's in reverse you have to reverse it if it's letters and so then you go into your ironing board and your iron you don't have to have one of those presses not necessary and so then you lay it on your shirt and you put a non-sticky teflon sheet on top of it and then you press it down and then you lift it up and all of the the stuff stays on your shirt and the cover sheet comes off so i'm going to do it i'm going to do it this very day but the first thing that i always do i've bought several designs in the past but i decided since it's september and it's getting cooler outside and it is smelling already like fall that i would go to etsy usually end up on etsy if you just search for an svg cup file you'll probably end up on etsy and so i found a nice fall design what i will do is i will go find the pattern that i made this shirt with because i really like this shirt i have no idea what pattern i use because i have hundreds of patterns so i will go find it i will cut out just the top i won't make it yet i will just cut out the top part of it cut the back out and leave it there cut the back out later whatever this is just two pieces the front and the back and so then i will get my design and put it on just the front and then when i get all that done now the good thing about that too is i always buy extra fabric for my sewing because i make mistakes cutting things out sometimes and especially in a new hobby if i was to mess the shirt up i could go cut out another front because i haven't wasted the front and the back i've just wasted the front and maybe i'd have to cut it shorter but you know when you're practicing be ready to have some boo-boos my friends when you sew you make a muslin when you do scan and cuff you do a practice start out with a child's t-shirt start out with a one dollar t-shirt from hobby lobby you can probably order them online for 50 cents i'm not sure about that start out with something that doesn't cost you very much so if you mess it up you can just throw it away and start over throw it away yeah throw it away if you can't throw things away give it to goodwill but i won't give something to goodwill that i wouldn't wear myself i don't give things to jesus giving is like giving to jesus you know things that you give jesus said that's like doing it unto me and i'm not going to give junk to jesus so you do what you want to do i would throw a mess away and start over so let me get all of my things arranged i've got to do today's devotion over there at shine but i'll be back in a little while and we'll play scan and cut so just in case some of you are new and you haven't even taken yours out of the box yet i'm just going to go through quickly how i got my design and how i'm going to get the design over in the scanning cut okay if you buy a scan and cut they will give you free for however much money you spent it's not free you'll be able to get canvas workspace i think it is called canvasworkspace.com and it goes with the software i thought i brought their little book back up here i did hold on so you will get this playbook i think maybe i had to buy this playbook separate and i think it was like a hundred dollars i don't think it comes with it it's been a couple years since i bought this now okay and they give you supposedly this free alphabet which is goofy looking as far as i'm concerned maybe they'll give you another one now so you can buy this playbook and this playbook has some lessons that you can do that will help you learn it it actually has a um a cd or a dvd or a or whatever used to be in there that's not there anymore i haven't helped this what did i do with that well anyway something comes in that i don't know what it was over 240 pages video lessons included on the usb drive so it had a usb drive the point is i wanted a design for fall i love pumpkins i don't buy pumpkins or eat much pumpkin i love pumpkin pie but i think pumpkins are a fun fall thing i like pumpkins and i like um so that's the kind of things i like so i thought this looked like quilting designs on this pumpkin right here i hope you can see it huh i thought that was really pretty and look like quilting designs i'm not going to put any words with it it's just going to be like this slapped in the middle of my shirt so i paid 2.69 for it and i bought it from etsy from a place called apple grove lane apple grove lane i think she might have some other designs too i don't know this looks like all the same thing look there it is on a shirt so that's what i'm going to do today i got to find some pretty orange i'm going to change this to brown and that to green and this to orange so we're going to do all that so you download it they send you an email that you can download your designs from and you can download them 100 times as far as i know or you can always go back to etsy and look at your purchases and then you can get them there now if you buy your design somewhere else you'll have to figure out what to do there i actually got some free designs this morning one of them is a great big tree with leaves falling and it was free so you can always try those but i like to help these people i don't mind paying 2.69 for this okay so here's the email i got from them and then a girl gives you a little bit of information like this is going to be a zip phone you're going to have to unzip it and so i know that i do know that the svg files come with this microsoft logo because there's not a logo for svg i'm gonna go up here to my purchases remind you guys i haven't done this for a long time this looks like it might be me purchases and reviews and right here it is so she did not send me a download link in the email at least i didn't notice it so i went back to etsy i found it and it says download files and so there it is so i'm going to hit download and now here it is down here you see this is where it and it says zip so i'm going to click on it there it is let's open it it's not a microsoft edge that's my svg right there there it is there's my svg so i'm going to do right click as and i'm going to move this svg document into my scan and cut folder okay i'm going to call it pumpkin and i'm going to save it in documents and under my documents i have a file called of all things scan and cut and so i am going to save it there okay so there it is so now i am going to open the canvas workspace now there's two different kinds of canvas workspace there's one that you can download and use in your computer don't use that one it's terrible there's one that you can use online so that's the one that i like to use as the one online and here i am in canvas workspace now the lady that talk that left a comment said show us how you put it on the shirt but i'm just showing you all these for just in case you're new and you're like wondering do i want one of those or not so i'm going to go over here to new because i'm going to make something new then i'm going to go up here to svg you would think you would go to download but you don't go to download this is for later this button is for later you get what you want over here then you save it then you download it which is when we will send it over here to the scanning cut machine okay so we're going to come up here to where it says svg and if you put your finger there for a minute it will say import svg dxf or fcm file okay so that's what we want to do is import so we're going to go find that pumpkin in my scan and cut folder now scan and cut and here it is pumpkin click on pumpkin open all right so here's my pumpkin.svg so i'm going to click ok and then i have to accept their silly cookies i wish they'd give you some chocolate chip pecan cookies [Music] this is the microsoft edge symbol and that's the symbol you will get out there next to your svg files you'll look and look and say well none of them are svg where are they somebody told me probably jeffrey so here is my pumpkin now that's 43 i want to see how big it is 100 because i want it bigger so here it is a hundred percent and i want it about this size so since i wanted about this size i might as well measure this and see what size it is this is seven don't look at my 97 chins this is seven by six seven by six so i know that's about this i don't want to clear out here and okay i just want it in the middle those things are not grouped which is good so let's change these while we're here let's change that to be green you come up here to one of these little icons and it'll let you change the color you'll learn all that so i'm going to make that green let's click on this and make it brown i love that they give you options to change the colors most of these designs come that way let's make that brown okay and then we're going to make the pumpkin orange ah how fun is this that looks like red that doesn't even look like orange where's orange let's make it that color what do you think what do you think ah total cuteness so now we can save that come up here this is the save button it's a goofy save button that says overwrite this project and you have to give it a name so you come over here and i'm going to call it pumpkin and then i'm going to hit overwrite project so it's going to save it saving this project is completed okay now i want to choose the whole thing so i can make it bigger and i'm not sure how you do that so i can scan it like this oh look i can move it i wonder if i can make it bigger no because you have to have it grouped let's group it see i don't know what i'm doing i'm just guessing let's do shift and group it all let's do this this and this now let's group it group okay so now i can't separate it anymore so hopefully i can choose it as one design and i can so now i can make it bigger now see i'm just i'm just figuring this out as i go i have no clue what i'm doing and down here it's telling me how big it is and so i'm going to go to seven inches seven inches pune right there between my busts points all right so now it's the right size so now i'm going to overwrite it again it'll save it as that side okay now you can reverse this here before you send it over there or since it's a pumpkin and you might not care if it's flipped around the other way you can leave it like it is but i usually flip it when i get over there to the scan and cut because what you're going to do is it's going to go cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut here then you're going to turn it upside down to put it on your shirt see so that's why you want to reverse it especially if it said pumpkin you wouldn't want it to say nick nick mupp you know you wouldn't want to say nickmap backwards you'd want to say pumpkin i know alrighty so we've got this whole thing ready it's saved so now i'm going to download it over here to my scanning cut saving this project is completed okay so now we're going to download and you can do this through the air i know that's not what it's called through your wi-fi so there's our pumpkin and it says seven inches by five and a half inches so i could stretch it out i could make it a different sized pumpkin i could it might look funny see i could make it a long tall pumpkin i could make it a skinny pumpkin i could make it to any size pumpkin all right i'm just going to ignore that we're going to undo okay so i've got my whole design here i got this funny code so what i'm going to do is i'm going to make it a little bit bigger i'm going to group it all again and i'm going to make it a little bit bigger because it's telling me that some of these things in here are a little bit tiny so you have to group it or if you don't group it you're going to make the pumpkin bigger but not the spiral and not the stem see so you have to have it all together to make it bigger so i'm going to go ahead and make it a little bit bigger just a little okay so now it's eight so it'll probably come from here to here let me see how far eight will go yeah it'll go from apex to apex so i'm going to save it like that because now maybe it won't say see there's some really really itty-bitty teeny-weeny things in here so i'm going to save it like that overwrite this yes saving this project now i think i better ungroup it because i don't want it to be grouped over there i want to be able to move these things around and i'm not even sure how that works like i said i'm constantly learning now all right so now it's ungrouped i've got three things instead of one thing so i'm going to say download now when you get here it's giving me that same thing some things will be automatically removed because they're too tiny whatever so now you have the choice to download it to your computer which would download it here or you can send it wirelessly can you see wireless duty over there to the scanning cut so you've got to understand and cut on so i'm going to hit transfer wirelessly the scan and cut transfer is ready so hit close let's come to the scan and cut now i'm not going to put the uh the mat in yet i don't think i have to put it in order to do this part we'll see i'm trying to get it up close enough to you that you can see it i hope that's showing up good enough for you jerry and i are getting ready to hang my quilt oh i'll show you that all right so here we are this is the scanning cut that design's supposed to be here right so i'm going to go just turn it off play like we just turn it off i think you have to hold the button in to turn it off turn off your walk all right it's shutting down so let's play like we're going to start this after a while and we're going to come turn our machine on okay so turn the machine on so how's that for close huh you see my scan and cut letters i put up there did you reverse it that's to remind me to reverse it because i always forget okay so we're turned on so got the little green light on that says i'm on so you hit the home button the carriage will move to the initial position keep your hands away okay all right so here's your screen it's pretty easy a child could do it pattern scan down here you have a retrieve pattern is to choose a pattern you can like go in there and choose a triangle or a square or a tree or something okay scan is to scan a picture you know i could scan this and if i was really really really really advanced i could get it to cut that out okay we're not going to test and we're not going to hit the wrench we're going to retrieve data because i sent that pumpkin over here so i'm going to retrieve it so you have the choice of getting it from your computer or from a flash drive or from uh one of these things didn't i already say that that's what that is or directly from your computer i guess if you're wired to it but up here you can get it wirelessly so this is your wireless rainbow so we sent it that way so we're going to find it that way retrieving and there it is i don't know how it knew that's what i wanted but there it is and there's my pumpkin look at that so let's play with it for a while we know we want to reverse it so let's hit edit now remember we're doing sss here i haven't done this for a while all right so there's that little green thingy i'm going to move it somewhere else because i'm going to cut it out of green and there's the little stem i'm going to move it somewhere else because i'm going to cut it out of brown and i'm going to leave the pumpkin right there because i'm going to cut it out of orange i'm gonna cut it out of glitter i'm so excited okay so now i want to select all of those things and there's a way to select them all i'm not sure what it is select let me see there's a way i think if you keep hitting this it might collect them all or that might collect them all i'm not sure what okay that this little button right here selects all of them so okay i have all three selected i want to reverse them all so we're going to go to object edit and we're going to figure out how to reverse them now one of these buttons probably means reverse i wonder if it's this one let's see if this pops on there i did look at that so that's your reverse button so there it is it's ready to cut out i can put on my mat here's the mat i'm going to stick the pretty vinyl on this and then i'm going to feed it in the machine and then it's going to cut that out for me okay so let me get my mat set up and let me get this back over here where it belongs and move the camera and then you can watch me cut it out okay i'll be back so we are several hours later and i am cutting i had a hard time getting the uh glitter vinyl it's thick ooh you can see it does not want to stick i hope i didn't messing it up touching it like that and it does not want to stick very good so i had to put some masking tape down on it but once you tell it to cut you always always always want to do a sample to make sure even with this that's supposed to automatically know it doesn't automatically know so you have to do a test so this part's fun just fun i don't know if you can stop it in the middle of what it's doing or not i bet you can i bet those two little buttons right there are like for stop we'll see i used all glitters a brown and an orange and a green i was able to slap a little piece of tape down on this corner there just before it cut so you can see how i did my board i cut out a big big enough piece of the orange for the pumpkin a big enough piece of the green for the curlicue and a little piece of the brown for the stem and they're all reversed and so then you can go into your scan and cut and you can just move the designs around you take a picture of this you scan it through there it's really easy and it shows you here's your orange here's your brown here's your green then you can just move your designs around to wherever you want them it's a really cool really cool so now you have to do what's called weeding and you're supposed to do something that i always forget to do you should draw a box around your design so it cuts around your design and that way you don't have to lose a lot of the vinyl i'm going to see if i can cut this off so i don't waste it because once you weed it you can't use it anymore so i'm going to see if i can just cut this off down here and save some of my orange because it's so pretty don't get that close jewelry daddy called me jewelry my name is joy marie and daddy always said hello jory i love my daddy my daddy was a real happy person i'm going to pull all of the green part all of the uh glitter off i'm going to pull all the glitter off except for this is called weeding except for the part that's going to stay on my shirt are you seeing it i think you are see see how it just pulls off and it leaves behind the part that goes on your shirt now there's a little bitty piece in here and there's a little bitty piece in here i've got to take those off well i bet there's a million of those in that pumpkin see there we're going to pull that little piece out now we're going to pull this little piece out see so that's the curlicue so you take this paper right here and you put it down somebody said how do you put it on your shirt so you take your shirt and you put this down on it cut the part off you don't need and then you just iron it and after you iron it on you pull this off and the little design stays behind okay so you want to cut this smaller you don't want it to be that big because i've got to arrange it on there i'll have to line these three pieces up like they're supposed to be okay so i cut that about that big and so i'll place it on the shirt and iron it on like that so let's take the brown one now the brown one's real easy it's just the stem and remember the glitter is upside down it's very confusing at first i just thought oh that can't be right that can't be right and then i would try to turn it over to weed it from the other side oh boy don't do that that's real bad okay so here we go we're gonna weed eat the stem oh my blade's cutting a little thick here my blade cut all the way through the paper you don't really want it to do that so i need to put it back on one instead of two but that's okay it's still there i had that clear up in the air could you see that clear up in the sky so this is the stem [Music] i'm going to cut it out do you have to leave a border around it i'm not sure if you do or not but i know that it all comes off after you iron it so that's the stem this is the curly hue the stem and the curly hue now the pumpkin won't be that easy now the pumpkin has a whole whole bunch of weeding to do and if you're not sure what it's supposed to look like print a picture off of it do something but i'm going to pull the main part off [Music] [Music] [Music] all right i'm going to show you what you can do i pulled out the wrong pieces the piece i pulled out is supposed to stay so be sure over here too be sure you have your design in front of you printed out or you'll be pulling out what goes on the shirt instead of what goes in the trash so i have to start over i have to find another orange and do a different pumpkin i had one more piece of orange this orange isn't as good as the last orange but i have re-cut the pumpkin i'm going to get the picture of it up on my computer so i can properly weed it this time but this time i put a weeding box around it can you see the weeding box it's just a rectangle so you don't waste all your extra paper let's take that weeding box off let me turn you down let's take this weeding off here now i changed it to cut one instead of two that's taking up everything i guess it's supposed to take up everything okay so here comes the rectangle that i put around it so that saves all the rest of my expensive glitter vinyl all right so see i've got a new pumpkin and he's got a rectangle around him that's called a weeding box and all you do is go into your scan and cut machine and pick a rectangle hello super easy all right now i'm going to do this different this time i'm going to get my computer so this time to be sure it doesn't end up in file 13 i am going to find the picture on my computer here it is see the picture so this is going to show me what pieces to leave behind and what pieces to pull out and throw away i totally totally messed it up now the first time okay so i'm making it big big see it's big and so here is mine so now i can see what you're supposed to leave you're supposed to leave all the orange parts so i'm going to pull out all of the white part see last time i was pulling off what's orange up here that's not right it's so wrong it's scary okay so we're going to start with this thing right here because i can see it really good [Music] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] so i've got my top cut out i fold the top exactly exactly in half smooth it out and i iron a crease down the center front then i take a ruler and i line one of the vertical lines up with the crease and i draw some straight lines just every so often straight one there a straight one there a straight one there you can see i've got a straight line right here so i can put this on that straight line and measure it up to the bottom of my design and make sure that it's straight that's how i do it i don't know how anybody else does it i'm going to put the stem right there i've got my picture over there so i can see it from my ironing board i'm looking to be sure i'm putting that stem in the right location and now this is the little curlicue i'm going to cut a little bit more off of it this clear stuff is not going to stick only the design has the sticky stuff on it this stuff doesn't have sticky stuff it has sticky stuff that'll stick to me but it's not going to stick to the blouse okay so this goes right in here like that oh how cute just keep playing call it playing so that goes right there and the pumpkin goes right here and how stinking cute is that i'm kind of glad the other orange messed up because this is a really pretty orange on top of that black isn't it this is just a black knit from my stash this is why you have to have a stash my friends it is the law of crafting all right now you have to have some of these things this is a non-stick teflon i bought them from amazon i got three or four of them and so you just lay it down right on top like that then you take a very hot iron no steam read your directions they're probably all different a very hot iron no steam so this is how you put it on your shirt now for me i cut out the front and i put it on the front if i wanted something on the back which i might put your non-stick sheet read your directions it'll tell you how hot to have your iron and how long to hold it down usually it says about 15 seconds but you can cool it off a little bit see if you can pull the backing sheet off and the design stays behind you see i go over it and all written over it so now we're just going to let it cool for a little bit because it's hot hot very hot we're going to let it cool now you can see this cover sheet has gotten even clearer and i'm going to get some tweezers so i don't burn my fingers i have tweezers and i'm going to lift the corner now see it's not even staying at all so obviously you have to hold it longer than i held it so go back down and hold it if this doesn't work i might go in and read the directions i always want to hurry hurry hurry i want to see it i want to see it i want to see it aha can you see that can you see that can you see how the design is staying behind the design is staying behind the design is staying behind and the paper cool enough now i can touch it the paper is peeling off this is the easy way to do applique oh look look look look you can always iron it again once you get this paper off of it see the paper the design is off of it and all of this paper came off and it's still sticky it's still very sticky but for some reason it doesn't stick to your top i'm going to iron that down a little more because it looks a little loose all right let's see if these ones on the top want to come off or if they want to be difficult oh look at that is it so cute i know yes i'm five iron it down one more time just to be super super sure now you cannot wash this for 24 hours all of them have said that but isn't it pretty i'm just ironing it from the back through a press cloth organza press sheet pressing sheet pressing clock and i've got the non-stick stuff on the other side so you want to see my pumpkin my pumpkin scanning cup you want to see the shirt i put it on this happens to be a sure-fit designs pattern i made for this shirt so ready set ta-da so i hope that helped you figure out how you put it on the shirt the main thing you do is you read the directions on how to put it on the shirt because you want to be sure your iron is the right temperature and i think this one ended up saying hold down 20 seconds but still they all say if it isn't stuck just hold it down longer so that's pretty much all you need to know and wait 24 hours to wash it all right dear ones i'm going to let you go we're ending this video right here i'll see you soon
