imagining himself as someone else who doesn't stutter. One word also helped him in this,
which became a catchphrase for Samuel, and eventually associated with him - "Motherf*cker". “I stuttered for a long time, and it actually
did help me stop. It was spontaneous on how I discovered it — it was the word that hit

sit-ins, not peaceful coexistence.” (Samuel L. Jackson) Meanwhile, The Black Power movement was actively
gaining momentum. Student anger over the control of the institution by the white governing
body made him take part in the action. In 1969, Samuel and several other students
took hostage the members of the Board of Trustees of Morehouse College… There was Martin Luther
King Sr. among them. Demanding reform of the school curriculum and management, they eventually
achieved changes. The college agreed to change its policy, but Samuel was charged with a
second-degree felony, and eventually found guilty of unlawful imprisonment. He was suspended
from school for two years, because of these actions and his criminal record! He decided to return to Atlanta, where he
met Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, and others active in the Black Power movement.
He felt his importance in what was happening. But when the group started acquiring weapons,
his mother was notified by the FBI that her son could die in a year if he remained a member
of the group. Samuel's mother immediately sent him to Los Angeles before he got involved
in any serious armed clashes. By the way, according to him, he had nothing
to do with the Black Panther Party, although he participated in the struggle for equality
in the sixties, and he was not surprised by the obvious twist of the United States to
intolerance. He doesn't think it's some kind of anomaly. People were not so open in the
past, when it was politically incorrect to support some ideas that they can now express
out loud. Recalling his youth, in a 2018 interview, Samuel said: “I hear things like ‘make America great
again’ and by ‘again,’ they mean going back to the day when a white man held all
the power, women were home cooking and having babies, and the rest of the races were subservient
in some way. There are a lot of things that can’t and won’t be changed because of
the blood and the effort that was put in during the civil rights movement, but there are a
lot of dynamics that are trying to be put back into place because of that.” (Samuel
L. Jackson) Being detached, he got a job as a social worker
in Los Angeles. At the same time, Samuel realized that he was not particularly interested in
biology. He was briefly interested in architecture, but in the end Samuel decided to connect his

apartment complex, where famous artists previously lived. He also worked for 3 years as a stand-in
for Bill Cosby on “The Cosby Show". Morgan Freeman was his mentor throughout all these
years and in all the early projects, like the romantic comedy “Coming to America”
starring Eddie Murphy, where Samuel had an inconspicuous role. By 1990, Samuel was lucky and he got a minor
role in a major project of the famous director Martin Scorsese, “Goodfellas”, playing
the role of real-life Mafia associate Stacks Edwards. But when the film was released, his addictions
were already unbearable. This prevented Samuel from staging two plays on Broadway – other
actors took his place. Jackson repeatedly found himself in situations where his life
could end. Perhaps this would have happened if it weren't
for love... Being a student, Samuel L. Jackson met his future wife, actress LaTanya Richardson.
